Board Update: Volunteer Team & Community Roles
We're looking to tighten up the clarity of the Volunteer Team structure and, in the process, roll out a cool new way to recognize stand-out members of the board community through the new Specialist role. While much of this may be familiar, let's run down the new structure! We're retiring some of the previous roles (Archivist, Advisor, NA Player Support) and are turning to a simpler model, detailed here:
Heralds captain the Volunteer Team, focusing on dealing with internal issues and moderation oversight, assisting in finalizing community initiatives, and generally acting as a final authority for when situations require a hard resolution. You can always reach us on Discuss the Boards or the Moderation Discord if you have questions, concerns, or input about anything board or moderation related.
Current Heralds: The Djinn, Evangele, Attysu The Poro, KnightsKemplar, Ulanopo
Moderators are the foundation of the Volunteer Team, and fight to keep content that violates the Universal Rules off the boards. You will also see them around posting as ordinary posters or making sure content is in the appropriate place. Many of our retired roles have been rolled into the "Moderator" role to clarify our purpose, and you may see moderators with specific Specialist [see below] flair on certain sub-boards: this indicates a moderator with a specific focus on that board, and makes them a great resource and contact point for any questions or concerns you may have about that specific community or that specific topic.
Boards Developers are members of the Volunteer Team who specialize in behind-the-scenes work, and are responsible for bringing you many of the cool new features and improvements that have happened since the Volunteer Team appeared on the scene. They're always looking for good ideas, and Discuss the Boards is the best way to get in touch with them.
Current Boards Developers: Wuks, From The Cosmos
Meet the Specialists! A new role and part of a new initiative to roll out some more community-focused changes, this title is intended for community members who have gone above and beyond in representing a specific sub-board. Importantly, not all Specialists are members of the Volunteer Team, and those that are Volunteer Team members will have the Specialist role as a secondary identifier. Instead, this title will be handed out as we identify excellent community members, and will appear with role identifier on that board only. You may see moderators with specific Specialist flair on certain sub-boards: this indicates a moderator with a specific focus on that board, and makes them a great resource and contact point for any questions or concerns you may have about that specific community or that specific topic.
At this time we don't have a way to nominate yourself as a potential Specialist, but rest assured we'll be keeping an eye out and offering the role to people we think are really contributing to the board community! The Specialist roll-out will be a work in progress, so you'll see more and more of this role pop up as time passes.
