SYLAS CHANGES (PLEASE READ) (TL:DR at the bottom)

Hey guys, for those of you who don't know, sylas is having a bunch of changes coming out and for the most part, to be frank, they are not good. To begin here are the changes for context. Sylas [Context] Base HP lowered from 585 to 525 HP Per Level increased from 95 to 115 Base Armor lowered from 32 to 27 Armor Per Level increased from 3 to 4 MR lowered from 39 to 32 MR per level increased from 1.25 to 1.75 Petricite Burst (Passive) Max charges increased from 2 to 3 AOE range lowered from 400 to 300 Chain Lash (Q) base damage changed from [45/70/95/120/145 (+60% AP)] to [60/70/80/90/100 (+40%AP)] secondary damage changed from 45/70/95/120/145 to 40/85/130/175/220 Slow changed from 15/20/25/30/35% to 25% at all ranks Slow duration lowered from 2s to 1.5s Cooldown increased from 9/8/7/6/5 to 10/9/8/7/6 Kingslayer (W) Cooldown changed from 14/13.5/13/12.5/12 to 14/12.5/11/9.5/8 Mana increased from 45/45/50/55/60 to80/90/100/110/120 Damage increased from [65/100/135/170/205 (+65% AP)] to [65/115/165/215/265 (+85% AP)] [Removed] Damage amp when enemy below 40% health Base healing changed from [70/90/110/130/150 (+50% AP)] to [30/60/90/120/150 (+60% AP)] Healing amp at >40% health lowered from 75% to 50% [meaning max heal is double base healing] [Changed] heal always goes off, no longer need to hit a champion to heal Abscond / Abduct (E) Cooldown changed from 14 at all ranks to 14/13/12/11/10 [Removed] no longer grants a shield Damage increased from [70/85/100/115/130 (+20% AP)] to [80/130/180/230/280 (+100% AP)] Now that you have the changes here is what riot plans to do with these changes. For those Sylas Mechanics Changes We have some Sylas work coming to PBE for patch 10.1. The core goal here is to shift his mechanics in a way that open up some weaknesses for him in very high level play while making him a viable champ for the majority of players (it’s a buff overall). We’re combining a set of strategies that we think will lead to this outcome: Less lane control, but significantly stronger late - having a safe, strong lane leads to being a strong option in all possible matchups. To counterbalance we’re buffing his late game across multiple axes (damage, tankiness, cooldowns) Mid viability over jungle - Juggling multiple roles lead to an additional strength as a flex pick. We think we can get him to a healthier spot for mid lane if we don’t allow him to be a strong flex pick in jungle Remove tools - E shield. Having a tool for every situation is something that can lead to this problem so we are going to remove the shield on E and give back the power in other places on the kit. Lowering skill floor on passive and W - We want to soften a few of the optimizations that many players are struggling to access without pulling out the decisions and skills of experienced players entirely. Let me begin by talking about riot's changes, First they state within their post that they are looking to SHIFT his mechanics, not eliminate them, currently there are 2 mechanics that I have found that are the main source of a higher skill ceiling, that you do not need to be able to play sylas effectively, but will give you much better damage, that is the E2 combo (you E then E again and use it to guarantee a Q), which was removed (you can no longer Q right after e2), the second mechanic is weaving autos between abilities, this is somewhat removed, mainly you can no longer use W or E to cancel auto attacks, this takes away from the idea that you're supposed to auto between abilities and instead throw them all out and auto attack afterwards, this is not only less fun for the player because it eliminates the auto weaving in combos. We need to have autos in our combos because it slows down his combos, and provides time for the opponents to react. Now both of these mechanics are being removed, yes this opens up sylas has less auto focused combos, and lower stats early to weaken his laning phase, but it makes him overall less fun to play. Now I need to talk about why these changes make no sense, mainly the REASON for these changes, riot is trying to make sylas accessible to new players, which I understand, mainly in that they are lowering his skill floor to allow new players to join his fan base, but the entire idea of newer players picking up this champion is flawed, mostly because of sylas's kit. Sylas's ult is the root of this argument. THERE ARE 147 CHAMPIONS IN THE GAME, the means that Sylas has to know 147 different abilities, and all their interactions of how they work to be played effectively, this is not something you can avoid, you must know how it works in order to play him. This means, SYLAS WAS NOT MEANT FOR NEW PLAYERS, I think that yes, a new player can pick it up, but in general his knowledge floor is a lot higher than the average champion. So balancing around new players is not a wise idea. As well most of the fan base, (mainly r/sylasmains) have been stating the same things about the rework, its bad because... e q combo is gone auto weaving is gone it makes his playstyle boring rather have the current 45% wr than these change because it keeps his playstyle w execute damage is gone I can understand the need for new players, riot is a company, selling skins to new players and ramping up new champions is all for monetary gain, BUT PLEASE do not let these changes go through, sylas has a unique play style as a AP bruiser, kind of like riven, maintain this, rather than making him an AP assassin who is more of a lackluster akali, riot even said themselves they didn't want to divide player bases and to balance around a single play style for champions, KEEP SYLAS A BRUISER, you can take away e shield, you can play with stats, just keep sylas a bruiser with his current play style. \ TL:DR: Sylas is a AP bruiser, riot is trying to change his playstyle to AP assassin by lowering his mechanics and shifting to an easier character with lower skill ceiling (limiting his fun auto with ability based combos playstyle) and it's not a fun character to play with these changes Thank you for reading, Salivas
