question about gameplay purpose/champ design?

real talk: is the main champ design/game purpose is to crush the enemy laner's soul due to said kit difference how "if your melee ill make your life miserable if im ranged" or provide a decent face off despite disadvantages/advantages? lets say best example darius whos made to delete melees is gonna be soul crushing indeed is this intended to give toxic behavior to happen or a yasuo whos 0/10 yet somehow can pentakill a team with 0 damage items? i need answers why are some champions made to make the enemy laner miserable the most balanced top laner i know to face is morde.
