There are sooo many options and different combinations, without one rune just being "The best" and damage being the only real factor when it comes to choosing which runes to pick.
This old system was archaic and didn't really offer a lot of combination and didn't even allow you to customize your setup for your playstyle.
But this system, my god.
There's so much variety and taking Mordekaiser as an example I can really demonstrate the beauty of this system.
#Let's start with Keystones.
Currently I can only really go for either DFT or SRS with a heavy AP based rune page.
But with this system I can tailor them to fit the enemy team comp as well as my approach to winning that game of League.
Is the enemy team rich in melee fighters and burly tanks, or just focuses on extended fights?
Press the attack is going to give me endlessly stacking AD for me to become an even stronger threat during the fight while also giving me a 12% damage increase to really shred through the enemy team!
Is the enemy team rich in kiting and overstacked with slows?
Phase Rush is going to allow me to run down those cowards and destroy them with that rush of movement speed and slow reduction
Am I betting on a snowballing game or do I just want to grow in power over the course of the game and feed on the enemy's pain?
Dark Harvest is going to give me an exponentially increasing burst of damage that resets on kills and gives allows me to cut 'em down one by one.
#But even the lesser runes provide me with valuable choices!
Am I facing a lot of AP threats?
Well, thankfully I can just grab a https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/8/8c/Nullifying_Orb_rune.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/52?cb=20170926025124 and shield myself from pesky mages!
Does my team have a ton of CC? Well, https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/d/d5/Cheap_Shot_rune.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/52?cb=20170926024452 is going to make that CC hurt even more!
And the precision path offers a lot of runes tailored to specific situations like additional damage to burly targets, more damage against weakened enemies or one that increases my damage when being under attack.
This system is so much more exciting without being stat checky at all and provides us with ways to really customize our playstyle.
And the best thing:
it's free and easier to use than the old one!
We can edit these runes in champion select and most of them are straight forward and don't allow us to just pick whatever WE feel is going to help us out the most!
This is a great update, and I can't wait for it to hit live servers.
