First of all let me introduce myself. I am the local meme lord and thrash talker of the boards (note: I don't play the game). I have my own opinions that I don't openly state even when thrashing bcs I might get banned from my home (the boards). I am quite the offensive person for today's standarts. But with that said I can be pretty objective when it comes to arguments. So today I want to state my opinion and my opinion alone as objectively as possible (if that makes sense) about the recent fiasco with Riot August.
So for the uninformed he called the people on the boards usless. That's pretty much it. Now other thing that may pop up is the He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named who called the community sea lions and manbabies.
Right of the bat I want to say that calling the boards usless is not a good monetary tacting. Almost every long time player comes to the boards every now and then and makes a post. It is not a secret that a lot of players are unhappy with the state of the game and want to quit, too. So insulting them will be just another reason for them to quit the game.
Now it is true that this community is bad at giving constructive criticism but still calling them usless is inappropriate when you, seeing their unhappiness should be enough of a clue. Now I won't pretend that the boards community is the best game forum community out there. There are a lot of straight up toxic people crying about bans and something being broken, etc.
Still when somebody says the world is a bad place he means that everyone is a bad person. Yet most people still are good or at least not serial killers (like me). Yes there is always a percentage of "bad" and unnecessary for society people out there but does that mean the whole world should be labeled villainous? Same thing with the baords of a game. There will always be rotten eges but is it nice calling Tom over there who tried his best to draw an edit for a newly reworked champion that he is not quite happy with? Is it nice calling Mike who wants a skin for his champion that hasn't gotten one since release? Is John bad because he introduced a balance change he thought might work out? After all that's what the formus of a game are for. For the community to state ideas, feedback and sometimes, yes, rage and thrash. Because this community have seen time and time again the no matter what Riot doesn't listen. Most rioters (August included) don't interact with the community at all. That of course makes the people from the community feel like their voice is never heard when the gamers are the ones who know what they want.
We saw many companies going on the wrong path. "Don't like it, don't buy it"; "Don't you guys have phones?"; "The players don't know what they really want" and now a Rioter calling a big portion of the playerbase usless. The usless people playing the game, the usless people buying skins, the usless people keeping this game alive because we may talk all day but it is the players who make the game and the developers are the ones giving it to the players. Riot as a whole don't take care of the boards and have people doing the job for free. In my humble opinion they should hire people to only stay on the boards and talk to people if only for basic and unimportant stuff and at least show some love to the community. This community is not build out of prisoners but from people after all.
Now finally I want to say that as it seems August is quite the edgy dude but that doesn't justify his words. I may thrash all day but that's because I am a nobody. He on the other hand is a representative of the company whose player base he is thrashing on. I unterstand he said it because he thinks that the boards don't give useful to Riot info and he is entaitaled to his opinion but that's tbh is objectivly incorrect.
I will end by giving examples of constructive posts on the main boards (no PBE that he so praises). I am sorry if some of the OPs don't want their posts to be used as such examples but I mean it only in the best way possible.
Also while we are at it please give Sylas some personality different then being Karl Marx.
(I can't say anything witout being mean too)
