Pokemon in 2018

Really why do people still play Pokemon? They've been such repetitive games that you can guess like 90% of the story and content from the getgo and have little reason to be worth yet another $60 for just a few new pokemons. I get it if you're like a kid, or never played Pokemon ever, but why play like 5-8 versions of the same game? It's like if you paid $60 for League, then you had to pay another $60 for League but with 2 more champs now. For the record I've played two Pokemon games way back in the day: Gale of Darkness in GC, and FireRed in GBA. Have played a bit of the more recent ones but yeah...
