PSA to teens: Defensive driving is fucking important, so don't treat it like a joke

... And not just in a bigger-picture "if everybody was a little more cautious the roads would be a safer place" kind of way, either. No, it's important to **YOU** to pay attention, because it's pure folly to believe these other shitheads on the road know, or _care_, what the hell they are supposed to be doing. I've probably saved my life at least 3 times by recognizing nutjobs making suspicious maneuvers on the roads, shortly before they try to fucking murder me. Just had an 18-wheeler blow through a red-light this morning and try to flatten me into a greasy pancake when he pulled right into the middle lane of a 3-lane street (the lane I happened to be in until I threw on my brakes and pulled over to get out of the careening 10 tons of metal on wheels' way). Luckily, when I saw him pulling up to the red light at 20 mph I didn't assume **he** would do the logical thing and keep track of his surroundings, so I immediately began slowing down and checking the lane beside me for any cars, allowing me just enough time to get out of his way when he came barreling at me.
