: Can We Get Brand Out Of Botlane
As a midlane Brand main, here's the treatment he needs: * Lower base damage and put more power into scalings, especially on the passive * He has base mana regeneration of a support (more upfront, less in lategame). Change that. Mages aren't supposed to build % mana regeneration anyway. * Buff his mana restorating passive, perhaps make it apply to all targets killed by his spells, not just those under Blaze. Nerf his mana pool. * Amp up his movement speed. He's a sitting duck for most other midlaners anyway.

Braum is too loud, muscular and young for that archetype. He's a great guy, sure, but not what I was aiming at.

: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: July 25
As far as personality is concerned, League might be described as overflowing with "edgy" characters. Even Ivern, the happy peaceful treant, has the backstory of a crude barbarian. His new character was sort of forced upon him, it's not a story of a repenting villain. He's also a bit too eccentric. What's definitely missing is the "Old Saint" and/or "Crone" archetypes. Zilean is an old man, but not really - he's a prideful, eccentric timelord, so the age doesn't really apply there. Swain is an old man with a cane, but he's closer to a Dark Mage type, and those don't really feel frail or capable of dieing of old age. We need a good-spirited character who's old and calm. The type of person who everyone looks up to. The Gandhi/Mother Theresa type (yes, I know both of them are extremely controversial people, I'm talking about the myth side of them). A character who's not grandiose, not jovial, not cynical, not shouting. A character you'd want to drink tea with and learn life lessons. Someone a bit like Uncle Iroh. Old Saint: Skillset-wise we're talking about a character who's ready to lay down their life to save the young ones. This should feel like being Gandalf in the mines of Moria. Perhaps an effect that rewards your action that results in getting your ally away to safety, not necessarily resulting in your death. Your enemies should feel bad about killing you while your allies survive, and good about finishing you after you've failed to protect them. And of course the greater the silence, the more shocking the storm: the ultimate should embody the saying "fear the wrath of a calm man". Crone: A different approach would be Granny Weatherwax type, an old wise woman who's seen everything and scolds the people around her into behaving nicely. This is still a similar "heart of gold" calm personality, just with a colder outward attitude. There's also the Hag archetype, but I feel like a cynical old person full of disdain is something too close to what we've already have. Crone/Old Saint first. Hag second.
: New Thornmail on PBE
Cold Steel is a respectable way to avoid stacking this with Omen, but the item appears to be a bit overtuned. I'd definitely remove the Ruby Crystal.
Rioter Comments
: We need freaking CDR... and some changes to Black Cleaver {{item:3071}} is such ideal item for an AD assassin (other than amount of AD given), and here's why: 1. That 20% CDR is SOOOOOOO freaking fantastic. Some say "Assassins should have super long cooldowns and higher damage per ability!!" That'd be fine, but assassins' kill potential is **so** heavily tied to their ult that you've gotta have it up as often as possible 2. The 400 HP is underrated. You would have no clue until you pay attention just how many situations you'll get out alive of with 100ish hp as Talon, Zed, etc. The survivability is incredibly nescessary. You're melee... they WILL deal damage to you even if they know they're dead. 3. That armor shred is so insanely useful. If you're ahead, then any enemy tanks are sliced to pieces. If you're behind, you can still help reduce the enemy team's armor for your team by landing skillshots. And let's say you catch out an enemy tank (while ahead)... you can probably solo kill them! On the boards, a lot of players complain about an overabundance of CDR and that's true for mages. Assassins have almost no access at all. {{item:3142}} {{item:3071}} {{item:3078}} (this item sucks in every single way in comparison to BC... and the sheen proc "burst" doesn't remotely make up for it){{item:3158}} (again these suck, assassins need boots will higher kill potential like mobi or swiftness) and you have {{item:3156}} There is ONE item that actually has CDR that is intended for assassins and not fighters. Maw has no place on an assassin, as many mage players will agree with me (lane is over once Talon buys {{item:3155}}), and assassins reaaaally need that kill potential of their ultimates to be useful at all.
Would you agree that it's a reasonable power shift to nerf Black Cleaver CDR to 10%, but put more CDR on Lethality items?

: Congrats, Pyro! You get to be our guinea pig today! As part of the more active moderation role that Wardens want to take on the boards, we have agreed that short-term stickies are a good idea. We've heard the feedback that really smart, well-written threads sometimes get lost in the jumble, and we want to do something about that. The theory is that by pinning a good discussion, we can help it gain some traction and get off the ground. After a day or two, we'll unpin it and let it go where it pleases. One of the reasons behind this is also to help Rioters see the topics that are hot on this sub-board right now. They don't have the time to see all the topics on the board all the time, but if we pin the really good threads, maybe we'll see an uptick in communication from them. That's the theory, anyway. So.... today, this is the lucky thread! I'll be pinning this to the front of the gameplay boards (and this comment to the front of the post, to help people understand why it was pinned) for 24-48 hours to help it get some attention. I cleared this thread with 2 other Gameplay Wardens to make sure there's at least 3/4 consensus that this is a good discussion that we want to boost a bit. Feel free to leave feedback for us on this comment or on the intro thread found [here](https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/1eW9WYr4-introducing-your-new-gameplay-wardens)! Let the civil, productive discussion continue! Onwards, summoners! --KempyreanPirate Gameplay Warden EDIT: I realized that I didn't specify that I can only pin this to the front of the gameplay sub-board. If this doesn't have the desired effect, we'll have to re-think our strategy.
Thanks! My threads aren't always the perfect pick, as I tend to go on a lot longer than just by starting the topic :D but it's very much appreciated! One concern is that sometimes people upvote pinned threads way less "they're already pinned", it happens all the time on reddit. So while it will get good exposure on the Gameplay board, it might actually hinder its chanes on the main boards. Feel free to experiment anyway! :D
: idk maybe double the hp/mana regen? give it another 5% cdr cap? (would prob break some champs or make others abuse it) or +30 ooc ms / just +15 ms or 50% of the shields+heals you give are converted to a heal/shield for you (would break soraka i guess)

: A ward is a target ....
Barely. The spell was designed with minions and allies in mind. You can place a ward wherever you want. It's not an infinite resource, but you're definitely not dependent on your allies unlike Braum W.

Fizz and LB yeah, but the other aren't nearly as good at escaping as Lee. > He needs a target for his W and Q but let's just call them free. He does not need a target for W. Wardhopping is an exploit that was never supposed to exist, but people got too used to it to remove it now. Lee would have been balanced if it wasn't for wardhopping. And again, you bring up a few good examples of champions who can go in and out - LeBlanc, Katarina, Renekton - and a few who cannot go out as easily as they go in.

I don't think you get the point of why the support champions are kept on low gold income. Have you ever laned against AP Lulu? It's a nightmare to balance enchanters for 100% goldstream.

: Catalyst isn't necesarily good for tanks. It's good for champions that have high mana costs or use a bunch of mana so that they can continuously heal, that's the main purpose of the item. Converting damage into mana is a bonus but as a tank in top lane is it truly reliable to tank damage just to get mana back? Most often the pay off isn't better. Also it really sucks that the item will no longer be viable on non-resource champions... Mundo, Shen, Vladimir, Akali, Kennen, Gnar, Rumble, heck even Shyvana. Although the item was pretty niche it was viable on these champions, now I wouldn't bother building it at all. I'd say it's an overall nerf. In regards to Righteous Glory, because they changed how to active works I think it's also a nerf. I think you're over exaggerating when it comes to CDR and tank supports. I also think you're over exaggerating how important locket after the changes is.
Sorry for the late reply. > Catalyst isn't necesarily good for tanks. It's good for champions that have high mana costs or use a bunch of mana so that they can continuously heal, that's the main purpose of the item. Tanks do have high mana costs on abilities. Mana is often how their laning is gated. Try jungling on a tank without the blue buff. > Also it really sucks that the item will no longer be viable on non-resource champions... Mundo, Shen, Vladimir, Akali, Kennen, Gnar, Rumble, heck even Shyvana. Many of those champions are almost always prioritizing Spirit Visage over Abyssal Mask due to the interaction with their innate or purchased sustain. Adaptive Helm is another option. The only losers here are Rumble, who admittedly doesn't really use SV, and Shyvana, who needs BotRK to see any use of the heal amplifier from SV (but she has Wit's End if she really needs MR that much). Keep in mind that Abyssal Mask is a new item all of these champions have dealt without before. > I think you're over exaggerating when it comes to CDR and tank supports. Maybe. Then again, CDR is a sought after stat on all champions with high utility. You may rise an argument that CDR is more important on Enchanters than on Tanks, as tanks care about durability stats as well while enchanters don't have anything else of that high priority in teamfights. If anything, though, support tanks should have access to easier, higher CDR than lane tanks. Less durability, but more utility.

Abyssal Mask changes - why not? Seemed like an attractive toplane item with the Catalyst.
: I mean, I used to pointlessly hate support mages(still despise fighting zyra "support") I don't mind you playing a mage as a support for fun/off meta n such, but if you're doing it because you don't want to support that's where I draw the line. People just need to expand their horizons a bit ._. your thoughts? I'm not sure how to feel about athenes since I sometime's play orianna support.
There's no going around cases like people who want to play Lee Sin support, but sometimes you can help direct those people into playing for the team instead of just themselves. Orianna support (that's a rare one, huh) will still like the new Athene's, seems nice with Ardent Censer.

: Well thought out, well written and easy to read for the most part. I just wonder how new Zeke's Harbinger will interact with Udyr. If it procs on Phoenix Stance i might pick it up in the jungle, since i already like to build Knight's Vow there.
It procs on all R abilities, even those with a short cooldown, but it has its own 45 second cooldown.
: I've been saying this over and over for a while. All they need to do to make Ohmwrecker viable is to add a part to the active that says "targeting an allied tower causes it to attack all enemies in range for 4 seconds." You now have an item that can both enable tower dives and make diving a suicidal task for the enemy. It adds no game breaking ability or stat while addressing the part of Ohmwrecker being useless when behind. It would now be a very powerful item when behind to avoid the 4 and 5 man tower dives with the tank soaking up all the damage and no one dying.
That's just one of the available options. You could even leave the active as it is and just increase the statline to make it competitive when compared to other armor + HP items. Just like Morellonomicon passive isn't always utilized, but the item is broken enough based on its stats alone.
: So now {{item:3107}} is worthless with out {{item:3504}} . Gotta love strategic diversity and the ability to _choose_ items to fit the situation. We still marketing the game like so aren't we?
No. Redemption is almost just as strong on its own, stronger if you have Windspeaker's, REALLY STRONG with Censer, and batshit insane if you add Crucible.
: My biggest reactions to your piece were: -- I do not want mana on support items for enchanters. This is really important, because, despite the hate, I think that getting good "stat binding" to certain classes is critical to the long-term health of this game. Riot talked about introducing mana regen scaling to supports a VERY long time ago, and I think it's long overdue. Mana scaling/stacking is supposed to be for mages, and I think it's a nice distinction. Supports can afford to not back, because they need to be out with their team when they're needed. Mages need to use their spells wisely, but a larger mana pool gives them more wiggle room as the game progresses. I like that, and as a result, the suggestion of tear building into the ancient coin line made me smh a little. If I haven't swayed you, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, in particular. I didn't like the mana on that line when I first read it, so putting tear on it would be way too far for my liking. -- I don't know why tank supports need 40% CDR. I do like it on Taric, but I usually build Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet on him, anyway. That might change with the Knight's Vow and Righteous Glory changes, to be fair, but I don't think that 40% CDR is necessary on a tank. It's not an on/off switch, after all. 30% CDR is pretty good. Enchanters live and die by their cooldowns, especially since they don't have health to live if they get caught out. It's a little different for tanks. I don't have strong opinions about a lot of the lesser used items. We're in agreement about the redemption and locket changes, I think. We'll see how those shake out, but I think an overall improvement for both.
> I do not want mana on support items for enchanters. That's actually a fair point, and if we were to move this even further, an argument could be made for swapping thses stats in the Coin and Spellthief line. > I don't know why tank supports need 40% CDR. Because engage/disengage cooldowns are important, and while in combat the total time of CC caused scales up with your CDR (the more often you have your stuns, the more you can use them). Basically CDR is a support stat in general.

: 3 things: - I dislike the HP scaling on Locket. It promotes top lane/jg poaching since they now have stronger Locket actives than supports do. - For your "Sunfire Plate" idea, Zeke's is already the "aoe disruption" item that Vanguards would use. Also supports USUALLY don't full build items in lane...actually most people don't by the time laning ends...so all that does is discourage roaming while they sit around waiting for minions to drop. As an idea, maybe a Vanguard support item could temporarily debuff armor/mr when someone's caught by hard cc? Or a support item that gives a small instance of Grievous Wounds when someone's hard cc'd? Just spit balling some ideas. - I know I'ma catch some flak for this, but Zyra's PRETTY MUCH considered a support by Riot at this point...like through and through. And even though they're going hard in the next patch for support itemization...finally...there's still nothing that indicates that champs like Zyra in the support role have any support items catered to their play style. I'm pretty sure that at least you know that itemization is part of the fun in LoL...just kind of sucks to see that no one really cares about Zyra's long term well being in the role outside of "spend 30 minutes building Liandry's". I don't even play her, but I empathize for those that do and don't really understand why the Zyra experience in the support role is so "bleh". Even in a long, thought out post like this one...no one's really thinking about that. That's more of a side concern of mine, though.
> I dislike the HP scaling on Locket. It promotes top lane/jg poaching since they now have stronger Locket actives than supports do. Fair complaint. But there isn't much else to do here, outside of perhaps forging another Forbidden Idol type of item for tank supports that would give them separate scaling from lane tanks. One possibility I'd entertain would be requiring Aegis to stack with an ally, like that mini-Sunfire I came up with. > And even though they're going hard in the next patch for support itemization...finally...there's still nothing that indicates that champs like Zyra in the support role have any support items catered to their play style. Fair point, and mage supports are in a similar situation to tank supports. Rylai's is already in a good spot. Liandry's is admittedly expensive, but it's helluva strong. I'm actually adding a section for mage items to the post, thanks for bringing that up.

: You focused way too much on full builds. Full-build as support is an entirely negligible possibility. Supports rarely get to full-build, and even if they do, it only impacts the last 10% of the game. The focus should be on the early and mid game builds (Sightstone, gold-gen item, boots, and one or two extra support items). For instance, you entirely missed the point of the Redemption changes, which is that it will no longer be a mandatory, 1st-rush item, even on healing-centric enchanters with WIndspeaker's. That being said, this is still a great analysis. I really don't have any other complaints aside from that one.
I made these hypothetical scenarios to explain why Athene's will *feel* good. Hell, most supports won't even give up their 6th item slot and keep it for pink wards. But yeah, in other places I've mentioned how most supports will get to finish one item after GP10 and sightstone, maybe two.
: You can't build Athenes and Mikaels together anymore because Athenes cancels out Mikael's passive. Athene's passive is also very meh on supports you don't build much AP on.
> You can't build Athenes and Mikaels together anymore because Athenes cancels out Mikael's passive. You lose % health regen, but gain Ability Power. That's all that happens. Sure, it's stats "wasted", but some champions will still like it. And all supports have some sort of AP scalings on their shields and heals.
DaNinad (NA)
: I didn't really see a reason for adc's to build it, unless it was caitlyn, and usually vayne was the only one building it wasn't she? She wasn't broken with it, it was just for caitlyn, which made the matchup a little more tolerable.
Nah, everyone and their mother is building it, check the LCS.
: RIP Coin line RIP Athenes for supports but everything else looks promising.
> RIP Coin line Might never go Live in this shape. Like I've said, rioters have mentioned they're hestitant about that particular change. **EDIT: They've just reverted it.** > RIP Athenes for supports What? Blood Charges are still in, the item is going to be *insane* on supports.
: A sunfire item for supports wouldn't be a good idea. It provides no peeling effects for your team at all. I'd scrap that idea. Redemption needs to have double interaction will heal/shield mods. Triple is insane. Abyssal Mask is still gonna be garbage and they're giving it mana (ha) and giving it less MR. They have yo give it 100 more HP and maybe it will be a decent pickup.
> A sunfire item for supports wouldn't be a good idea. It provides no peeling effects for your team at all. I'd scrap that idea. That's the whole point. Some supports do not want to peel, or at least it's not their main purpose. If I'm playing Leona or Nautilus, I'm more focused on disabling the enemy squishies than on protecting my carry. Of course it works best if your ADC can kite the enemy frontline, or your midlaner can peel for them both. Sure, Leona can stun people who threat her carry. But her E's design SCREAMS that her purpose is diving the backline.
: I'm going to have to see the redemption changes in action honestly. those health and shield boost on those items are unique, so they SHOULDN'T be able to stack, yet at the same time it says clearly on there that the healing is boosted 3 times as much by "healing and shield" amplifiers. It raises a whole bunch of questions for me. Does it's own amplifiers boost it's healing? do all items with healing and shield amps affect it, or only the item with the highest healing/shield amp? will the effect make it worth buying multiple healing/shielding amp items? do mastery boosts affect it? Till I see it in action and understand how that effect works, I can't make heads or tails of it >Ohmwrecker is still forgotten Yes. yes it is :( I'd for one love to welcome it as a diver item so long as it got some major changes to it's stats and it gave something more then a deactivated tower (cause that's all well and good, but it's not exactly going to make me want to build it in the time frame it's useful for). At this point I think it could be remade into an item for any champ since no one will be too broken up by it getting completely different stats. The only worry would be if it "didn't feel like Ohmwrecker anymore", but honestly I think the only thing that it really need to feel like Ohmwrecker is being able to affect towers in some way, even if it was changed to buff towers instead of deactivating them.

It raises a whole bunch of questions for me. "Healing and Shielding Power" stacks additively. It's only unioque if you bought two of the same item. That means you can't get two Forbidden Idols and get +20%. It's like with Cooldown Reduction, magic penetration, or Lethality. You get 10% from Ardent Censer or Redemption, and 20% from Mikael's Crucible. Windspeaker's Blessing gives you additional 10%. That's 50% max, but for Redemption active it will count as 150% (3x).

: pretty well thought out post i have to say though if doran's shield is such an issue on adc make it a god damm melee item only as has been said so many god damm times already. block them from buying it. just like how deadmans plate should be opted out of purchase for a whole slew of champs as well.
Yeah, Doran's Shield should be the go-to "I'm a melee champion under ranged fire" item. I'm not so sure about DMP. That item is used on some champions more than the others, but many of them desperately NEED it.
: Have to disagree with you on the Banner of Command thing. As what feels like the only person who builds it on all supports, I don't see why people don't take it (early) because it allows strong pushing, easy tower removal, and incredible gold increase. The Point Runner move is exactly what Banner needed. Supports need more MS in general, but the laning speed is helpful to set up decent split pushes with the Promotion feature. the lack of CDR until completed hurts a bit, but over all I'm really excited about this change.
You may be right here, I can already see the item being built in some cases, and the interaction with Baron-empowered cannon minions is borderline broken. It's still pretty damn unpopular.

: Can we stop pretending tanks are weak?
You're not taking one factor into consideration. Tanks have higher winrate because tanks are often less "fun" champions. How many times have you seen it in champ select: it's the 4th or 5th pick, and the team raises concerns "We need a tank", yet the toplane locks in their Fiora pick, the jungler doesn't plan to change their Kha'Zix pick, and the """support""" is going full AP? Tanks have higher winrate because people picking tanks tend to be more teamwork-focused and less 1v9 focused.

Because you can't dodge basic attacks, and limiting the defense options to % mitigation of damage is too simplistic. Keep in mind that ADCs wreck through any tank in the lategame in a 1v1. For some tanks and bruisers, Thornmail is the only option to deal some meaningful damage back. You can counteract Thornmail with lifesteal or MR. Mercurial scimitar gives both. I still can't comprehend why did they give it 10% CDR out of nowhere without even increasing the cost by a significant margin. And while buffing the MS by 2% at the same time. The only reason Lichbane isn't considered OP is that unlike Protobelt, Zhonya's and Abyssal it doesn't provide any durability, so you can murder people, but you remain as paper as ever. And it's not as easy to proc as Luden's.

: these changes are a huge buff to the support mages like zyra brand and velkoz they just get their rylais + liandrys powerspike way easier now and they already do well against the tank supports making use of the new keystone
That's my biggest concern as well.
