it's not the damage part that bothers me the most. This one is quite telegraphed so I don't mind it. It's really the instant invulnerability it gives, to a roaster of champs that's definitely not large enough and the gameplay shifts it induces.

: The silence on Soraka's E isnt continually applied on every frame. Because it's a ground AoE, It ticks frequently and the duration covers until the next tick. This is to reduce the lag these abilities create. Pretty much all AoEs work like this or else they would generate shit tons of lag and server load. An example I can give is Wukong's R. If I flash on top of somebody, they won't be knocked up until the next tick comes so sometimes when I flash on people they immediately flash out and don't get knocked up. Cait's traps just apply the entire duration at once to a single target so there is no awkward windows where people can get out. Either the entire duration is activated or it's not Also keep in mind that nobody plays on zero ping so there are always slight discrepancies in what you are seeing vs what the server is seeing

: You have to keep in mind a binary meta isn't an easily balancable one; see all the binary champs that have been problems since the beginning. If you remove runes, the champs do become more binary, and that results in more stat checks as they get over tuned to compensate for lack of runes (expect this for all tanks, mages, and assassins, take away talon's electrocute and suddenly his W does 100 more damage level 2 on PBE). While that would definitely be the case for electrocute and comet users, you can't necessarily replace those who used runes like glacial augment (essentially you ruin the damage playstyle vs. the utility playstyle ahri and vel'koz mains have, and lock them into getting damage compensation buffs and locked in a single playstyle). Even Twisted Fate can do this, or comet. {{champion:164}} is a champ I can personally talk about, she has 5 viable keystones, all matchup dependant; - Grasp and Klepto are good into tanks that can't trade back with her, since all the other runes won't do much damage to them anyway and she stacks extra gold/health all lane phase. - PTA is good for snowballing and outtrading the opponent, as well as bursting squishies later on. - Conqueror while not exactly ideal most of the time, is viable into tanks if you're trying to snowball off them and outduel them. - Comet is good for rough matchups that you want to poke out and spam W with mana flow band. System is working fine for me in that regard, and frankly its not unhealthy or game breaking for me being able to do that when the opponent can also do the same and flex nullifying orb.

Faker played her mid with this, and it seemed to be good- I then tried, and the movement speed you get from it is literally incredible. Overall I agree, you do have some liberty in your rune choice.. even if you are not limited the same way depending on the champion (most mages are viable only with Comète or Aery, most assassins are viable only with electrocute, Dark harvest and Predator are underplayed...)
: Its toxic counter play if you let the first bounce occur yes, but champs like camille can just R into the enemy team and the first bounce wont even occur. His R on someone like fizz for instance as fizz q es into your team just gets nullified completely, windwall or braums W shatters it, a lot of champs can actually choose to eat the ult for their team (adaptive helm, zhonyas, ga so on for instance) he has counter play which is why he isnt pro play material. He is NOT good enough to be vs players that know how he works. Brands main weakness, is the fact that his adc is weak without an enchanter. Thats a massive drawback to brand. If the enemy team realizes brands the carry, they can drop a camille/xin/olaf/fizz on him invalidiating his burst before a teamfight, then win the teamfight with the adc thats terrified to even approach the fight. rendering the teamfight a 3v5. Brand works best like a fiddlesticks with a jumpscare ult qew combo. Thats why he really isnt a mid laner, his kit doesnt work well when you know where he is at.
actually brand's ult was changed to be able to not be cancelled by Camille's ult and Fizz's e.
