Only if Malz puts Malefic Visions on them directly, if it jumps to them the minions won't freak out.
: To be honest, the lack of release this year feels like the game is in a stale, boring state. I mean, yeah, they were supposed to do more reworks than champion releases, I get it, but a reduction in new champions resulted into getting almost no new champions at all and the increased amount of rework wasn't noticeable at all.
We'll have 6 VGUs and 3 new champs this year, last year we had 4 VGUs and 5 new champs so they are working at the same rate.

: Honestly, when it comes to making other games based on the League universe, I'd support a singleplayer rpg over a MMO. Between my garbage internet connection and general things about MMO gameplay, I've never been able to hold interest in them the way I have with singleplayer RPGs.
IMO Since League has always been a team game I'd perfer riots next game to be something one could still play with thier friends. So rather than a singleplayer RPG I'd want an ARPG with up to 5 player co-op.

More specifically, his (conditionally) insane mobility that he can utilize in order to render skillshots useless, and his Windwall mechanic that allows him to deal with targeted (and not targeted) projectiles as well. The more unreliable your champion's kit is, the more likely you are going to struggle against Yasuo. And that leads to: pick a champion with a kit that is extremely reliable, meaning that it has few skillshots and focuses on targeted spells, or instant cast AoE abilities, especially ones that come with CC as well. Prime examples of this are: {{champion:1}} {{champion:127}} {{champion:90}} . > > {{champion:1}} Annie sucks against mages that outrange her, aka quite frankly the majority of them, but she excels against melee & mobile champions. Her stun is a giant zoning tool against any of them, and the fact that she can reliably stun Yasuo anytime he tries to get close with her W (because its unaffected by windwall) makes it easy for Annie to disengage or engage Yasuo (having the ability to reliably disengage Yasuo is the absolute most important thing you can do as a mage during the laning phase against Yasuo). It's also worth nothing that Annie's stun is NOT consumed if it is interrupted by her Q'ing into the windwall. Basically, Annie's extremely simple and reliable kit doesn't give room for Yasuo to outplay her. > > {{champion:127}} Lissandra is similar to {{champion:1}} in the sense that she's packed with short ranges and instant cast, reliable CC. Lissandra can reliably disengage Yasuo with her instant cast root W ability, and also has a point and click stun to further lock down Yasuo. or a free Zhonya. Getting your E blocked by windwall is kind of harsh tho. > > {{champion:90}} I don't personally play Malzahar, but once again: reliable point and click VERY HARD CC that doesn't give much room for Yasuo to outplay. if the yasuo takes {{summoner:1}} tho then gg go troll
{{summoner:1}} Doesn't work against Malz R though.

: Its hard to believe you actually knew what Malzahar was when you say things like: "long CDs, high mana costs and delayed damage it's hard for Malz to actually kill his opponent" "Null Zone were originally remove because it wasn't a very interesting ability, it was mostly used in a combination with Nether Grasp for **some** extra damage, other than that it were used to push the wave **I guess**." --- A revert to 6.8 + tuning would be faster at balancing Malzhar than trying to revert parts of his kits, keep parts of his kit, and add new things to his kit at the same time IAW your suggestion.
Malz actually have real trouble killing his opponent in lane currently, it's not worth fighting over taking minions. Pre-rework you actually had the choice to play him aggressive, the majority even picked ignite on him. The part about CDs/Mana costs were rather meant to compare too other champions rather than his pre-rework self. Yes, Null Zone had a great damage and I admit that I sold it short in that sentence, though it were still mostly used in conjunction with the ultimate. The changes I suggest is basically a partial rework, old passive and Q, nerfed old R, buffed current E, and old W with the current passive on it. Though thanks for the comment.

They taught themselves forbidden sorceries, and came to view themselves as the rightful inheritors of the world. The scattered mortal populace named these new tyrants darkin, a whispered curse translating roughly in the old tongue as “the fallen.” But there is a massive difference between how Renekton and Xerath look comparing with Aatrox and Rhaast
Rhaast, Aatrox and Varus were once ascended similar to Nasus and Renekton. After the fall of Shurima the ascended started a war inbetween themself, which made mortals start calling them Darkin which means "the fallen". Eventually Zoe thought the humans a way to imprison the darkin within thier own weapons, though if a mortal ever tried to wield a darkin weapon it will attempt to take them over. So while Rhaast, Aatrox and Varus were once ascended now they are something else.

It's much easier for Riot to spot out and punish that though. If they see that a player suddenly starts playing in a completly different play pattern and it matches their high elo friends, that might just be a permaban for both of them.

What made you decide to kill the pets? Because the initial voidling rework buff given to him patch 6.23 was OP, and literally repeatedly reworked again and nerfed 7.3 through 7.12. Post rework Malz performed poorly (patch 6.9). Then they reworked minions with 6.23. That change slowly became support meta god tier (he was top winrate shortly by 7.1 lasting through first half of season 7 until 7.12 patch). Then Riot began to openly nerf Support Malz, who was garbage mid lane, starting 7.3 (you can read their statement about Support Malz trend on that patch note), followed literally multiple mini rework nerfs on Voidlings all combined until finally being killed 7.11. At 6.23, they would spawn instantly on cast, which built charges over time similar to Heimerdinger's Turrets and Teemo's shrooms. They would multiply into a mini horde which was nice visually as well tactically when clearing waves and even blocking skill shots. Then they were reduced in number along with no longer building charges, but requiring Malz to cast spells to get "charges". No more level 1 W cheese in tribush with this. Followed this by reducing movement speed, no longer able to spam multiple charges immediately, slow the movement speed when they leave a short radius from Malz, removed lifesteal, reduce their health by 1/3, THEN have them die on 1 hit from champion attacks AND turrets.
I agree that all of the post-rework versions of the voidlings have been very problematic, and I belive a big reason for that is that there are too many of them. Balancing around 1 voidling rather than 3 would be far easier.
: > Would you say he is in a good state power wise? I do think he's pretty balanced. I wouldn't claim his power is perfectly allocated to the right parts of his kit. > Are there perhaps any plans to revisit him later? There aren't immediate plans, but things like that can always change. Malzahar is difficult because he is trying to fulfill several different thematic and gameplay fantasies: shadow magic DoT guy, minionmancer, lockdown mage, a few other minor things. I can see how that's the champion that was created years ago when Malzahar was originally made, but in today's much larger roster, if we were designing him from scratch, we'd probably make him really awesome and cohesive at one of those things. I guess he's a victim of the time he was created, in a way. > His current W seems to be a source of lots of trouble with Malzahar, while also being the least fun of his abilities, that is however necessary for him to deal damage. Any plans for that? The most recent changes to his W where the voidlings became very killable were a step in the right direction imo, but they're really not supposed to be a significant portion of his pvp power budget (because he really lacks the agency to help them succeed). If anything, if we were to do some power shifting, my starting point would be reducing voidling pvp presence even more and putting some of that back into Q or perhaps a reworked/modified ult.
Really sad hear that this is the direction things are going especially when the intent with reworking malz in the first place was to involve the voidlings more in his kit. What made you decide to kill the pets?
: I think a directional shift to where Malz is less reliable but deals more damage could make for a solid champion. I bet a lot of people play him in large part for his reliability, however, so I'd be pretty hesitant to just sign him up for that kind of work. Not many mages have that reliability profile anymore. Citing his per game damage relative to other mid laners doesn't seem like a very convincing reason for change tbh. These charts tend to have pretty high correlation to whether the champion deals a bunch of AoE damage rather than single target, as well as whether they have high or low reach. Malz's damage is pretty single target focused and low reach overall (especially when compared to many other mid laners), so I'd expect him to be pretty low on these charts. I could buy that Malz would be more satisfying if he traded off some raw ult CC duration power for a bit more damage, but I'm not sure most of his player base would want to see him become much less reliable.
Hey Riot Repertoir Thank you for looking into Malz once more. I'll just give my two cent as longtime and passionate Malzahar Main. Nerfing R duration or R in any way in favor of his basic abilities is the best news I've had in forever. R is the main reason a lot of people spite malz others being on how uninteractive he can be in lane, which is just a byproduct for having to much of his power budget loaded into his R. Malz has very little incentive to do anything but farming is due to having no kill pressure at all pre 6. Buffing the wrong thing would be no good though, just casting E on people and run away wouldn't make far any interesting play pattern. I'll give my two cents on what I personally would like to see buffed. Voidlings, I feel like these small guys needs a lot of love, they die instantly when spawned and are only useful for pushing and blocking projectiles. This ability in it's 4th iteration now and all I wish for is too have them go back to their roots. Bigger pets live longer and gives players opertunity to actually play around them. What I'm suggesting is pretty much putting the original Voidlings on his W, improving their AI (Follows auto attacks) make them a lot bulkier and stay around for longer (prerework was 21 sec). Now the new W would only be cast able on full stacks (think Kassadin) but give you a much more reliable pet. Maybe giving them a boost of speed against targets with R on them would also be in order since the duration is getting reduced. BRING BACK AD MALZ, sincerely former AD Malz main.

The only fun I had with the runes when I brought Kleptomancy. (which is not a mage rune) Any skillshot mage that requires skill to play feels bad with the new runes. On my opinion these champion do not get much out of the new runes : {{champion:90}} {{champion:50}} {{champion:45}} {{champion:161}} {{champion:112}} {{champion:101}} {{champion:115}} {{champion:26}} {{champion:163}} {{champion:131}} {{champion:268}} {{champion:63}} {{champion:30}} {{champion:38}} You can say the phase rush or whatever it is called can be used on some of them, but it requires you to play perfectly by landing every skill on the enemy, meanwhile ADC's can enjoy the zero counterplay auto attack runes. Mage runes are very situational.(they already have counterplay by lack of mana, CD, no escape and lack of sustain). So if any class that actually needs runes that got outplay potential are the ADC's.
If you haven't seen Precense of Mind Kassadin yet you haven't seen unlimited power.

Malz Passive isn't technically a spell shield, it's a 90% dmg redution and CC immunity for 0.25 sec which triggers when taking dmg or being CCd. It's practically a spell shield.
