: Well, if you would just pass them your process and tell them to follow it, it would be great.
A total shift of moderation strategies is not required to fix a few problems. If you don't come with anything specific, you know they won't change a small thing, not speaking of radical changes that you propose. The EU volunteers frequently say that they are willing to receive feedback. There even was a feedback thread a while ago from one of them. Furthermore I rarely see someone discussing the boards moderation in EU. If you don't give clear examples, no one who willing to change can make change. You really need to be more specific than 'just copy NA moderation'.

: Gixia's point is that Anags can't use a comparison to the pro play system as they are fundamentally different situations. In Pro Play, the bans are not individual bans, they are team bans, and the players have far more knowledge of their teammates and opponents. Champ select time is also far less of an issue.
Yes, I understood what he meant with that, but I also smelled another message in his comment, which I replied to.

Know what else doesn't make sense for competitive play? Throwing together 5 random strangers who don't know each other and making them work together as a team with limited communication.
Why don't you find a team then? There's nobody stopping you from doing that.

: By activity view, I meant what HateDaddy suggested. > For a popular board like gameplay, I'd also like to suggest a system that prioritizes thread activity over upvotes. If you mean what kind of details I'm thinking of, I guess the frequency of comments? Sort by number of comments/number of days, maybe? Number of days instead of hours or seconds so that each post gets a chance to be seen by everyone (since presumably people come to boards at regular times).
Aren't both activity and upvotes taken into account? I've seen threads with hundreds of comments but only one upvote reach the top of the homepage in EU.

Additionally, I feel like something needs to be done about vote jerking on popular boards like gameplay in general. What I mean is that nothing is more frustrating than spending a good deal of time on a well thought out thread that may be against the common grain of thinking and two guys downvote it, sending it to the oblivion to never be seen again. Meanwhile, make your title click-bait or random circle-jerk hive mind and you'll have 100+ votes in a day. This negates productive and constructive discussion. I would go as far as saying removing votes from gameplay in general and having thread activity be the main factor for what makes it to the top but people are probably far too in love with this outdated, nonsensical Reddit-wannabe system. I like objective discussion and that simply doesn't take place on gameplay. It's dominated by the same 5-6 posters - who most of the time are usually right but again, that's not good for objective discussion. Honestly, the way you put it was probably one of the best framed arguments against voting that I've seen in a while. Or maybe it's just me reading these hundred-something comments, but I think there may be potential in having the entire Boards be discussion-operated, with visibility as a function of amount of discussion generated, as opposed to upvotes for the thread. My Discord is Wuks#5471 if you want to talk about this more.
In EU the voting system is disabled in the home page while it's still visible on the separate subboards and in the thread. This is done to prevent posts from being downvoted to oblivion before they had a fair chance. The idea of this game from the new player board where it was disabled to prevent new players from getting downvoted and since it was successful it was implemented on the boards homepage as well.

: The problem you are facing is presented to every person at some point in their lives. It isn't exclusive to one gender or one community, it is a condition of humanity. What you are asking if for a group of people to change their behavior because you're female. This is absurd. It's absurd for any group to change anything for one person. If you dislike a group at school/work do you claim it is because of (insert prejudice here)? Another example: If a male likes to shop at malls and would like to fit into a group that is similar, well he is going to have to accept a lot of (very sexist) banter that he may not enjoy. Otherwise he can find the small group of people like himself (which OP can do as well), or he can form a new group (See LGBT--). These are the options. This nonsense that a fourth option of bend to my will because (insert prejudice here) is not going to net any results; and let's say it does, the group will simply form a new group. Little Johnnie with his no girls allowed treehouse probably got the idea from the no boys allowed teaparty. When Momma says Sally girl, let Johnnie into the teaparty! Well, Sally just makes a no boys allowed doll room instead.
> What you are asking if for a group of people to change their behavior because you're female. OP asks the opposite. She asks people to stop changing their behaviour because she's female.
: Not random people but if you are in a community playing with the same people over and over. I never comment a guy on his pick in soloq (unless its a reallly vanilla joke) but when its in a team you can diss a bit.
It's still online and a very thin friendship. The only thing that connects you is the game. You haven't experienced anything together in your life except for the game. As much as I'd like online friends to be like real life friends, they aren't similar. Until you meet them in real life.
: Ping muting testing soon
I might be a little pessimistic about this but I'd like to know if this possible problem is taken into consideration. Sometimes, misbehaving in chat is tried to be justified by the existence of the mute button. Fortunately it's not a big problem as verbal misbehaviour goes punished. Have you considered that the same excuse for ping spamming might now be used, while ping spamming goes unpunished? By adding a ping mute button without actively punishing ping spamming, ping spamming may effectively become a permitted way of letting out frustration on your teammates.

: I've got something you should know! If you're interested in joining a volunteer program, the best way to do so is simply be active and helpful within the community. We keep notes on regulars and are always looking for new faces to add to the group. Put in the effort to be helpful and we will definitely take notice.
If I would ever join a volunteer program, I think I would rather be an EU volunteer, as that's the place where I know the most people and where I have met lots of awesome people. If they think I could bring something valuable to the program I'm sure they will contact me sometime in the future. You never know where I'll send up. Maybe I will have a blue name here as well in the future. I'm interested in joining a volunteer program, but I think that's mainly because you can work together with a cool group of players and do things for the community. Just one last question. Do the arbiters do more on the background except for commenting a lot and having a blue color?
Wuks (NA)
: I can talk about the North American Riot Games Volunteer Programs all day, but to address your questions specifically, the NA Program consists of one primary group, which is the Arbiters Program for the Player Behavior & Moderation sub-boards. We also have/had a Wrenchmen Program, but that program has been phased out as Riot stepped into the Help & Support sub-board, effectively eliminating any need for that role. The NA and EU programs regularly communicate; however, most of the coordinated efforts are instead between the North American and Oceania programs. We're currently looking into ways to level up our volunteer programs, and that includes taking some direction from the European programs. The specifics, however, haven't been hashed out yet, and we're still in a very preliminary phase. As of now, we're focusing on expanding volunteer moderation roles within Player Behavior & Moderation, and we'll take it from there. Great questions, and if you have any more, I'd be more than happy to answer them! :)
Thank you for taking your time to answer. I don't have any further questions, but if you think there's anything I should know I'm definitely interested.

: Not cool, Riot mods.
Mistakes can happen. That's a given. Not having a discussion about it is a second thing. On my home boards from EU I rarely see a moderation mistake and every time a deletion is questioned, moderators explain why a discussion or comment was removed and take feedback for their future moderation. I'd like to ask a moderator to come here and give some explanation regarding this issue. ------ To Riot: Iirc, correct me if I'm right, moderators on the NA boards get a small pay for their work. Maybe you can consider making moderation part of the volunteer program, like in Europe. Intrinsic motivation usually works better than extrinsic motivation.
: Yeah, that's why we're clarifying. Now let's dive into the details of this one to clear this up. You're playing adc (in 2017), and everything's going fine. But then your jungler blows a gank mid and your midlaner goes off the deep end. They pop off with "Report troll jungler" in all chat and other, worse bullshit. Even if the other team reported that jungler, the jungler wouldn't get hit with a penalty because they didn't actually do anything wrong. However, if the jungler reports the midlaner, they're likely to get hit with a penalty depending on just how much they tilted and their game-over-game history with that type of talk. Where the confusion creeps in is when you try to reduce things down to: Does "X" mean penalties. Instant Feedback only works that way with hate speech and threats of harm. That's the sort of harassment the team is much more focused on. Report calling is often a minor negative thing, but say there's a spectrum of chat where 1 is hyper-friendly, 5 is neutral, and 10 is literal death threats, this is like a 6.
So if I understand correctly, report calling is not a bannable offense on itself, but, since it can create negative environment, it can contribute to getting punished? This punishment is not necessarily a ban, but is just the next punishment from the punishment tier depending on the player's behaviour history?
