: Blame esports, pros would drag the games out to 65 mins every match.
actually, most of the players who were high elo (before season 9) and retain their high elo today (lets not get ahead of ourselves, most of those who were previously high-elo, are now stuck in diamond) suggest that this season, (much like next season will be) is a shit show, and rank doesn't matter. ESports has nothing to do with it. Though I'd argue that a lot of people would love to sit down an watch a 2 hour long single head-to-head match, that was drawn out that long on purpose, not because one team got ahead (which we will see at this years finals)

: Game dodging epidemic!
Problem 1: Players have inflated MMR and an INSANELY negative win rates... (meaning you can have a 33% win rate overall and still be silver//gold - makes sense? because it really doesn't to me) Problem 2: Lower tier players (bronze, silver, and gold, and silver//gold//plat "MMR") are being matched together (probably shouldn't be happening... considering the way MMR works but what do i know? riot doesn't see a problem!) Problem 3: The games that you're actually getting into are games that are 100% coin-flips or heavily one sided due to Problem 1, and 2 (and because some people do actually know how to check teammates before hand and make a decision then to dodge or play...) Solution: Revert positional MMR (you still get LP based on the position you played at its own individual MMR, it needs to be removed.) If you think about it, actually lowering the penalty of dodging (the wait time, not the LP loss) would actually be better to get more players into more games across single accounts instead of having to force a player to make 3-4+ Fun fact: I've dodged more games than I've played today, among 3 different accounts because 2 of them had 30 minute wait times due to multiple dodges in a row from Problem 1, and problem 2... (problem 1 and 2 makes playing not fun, so why play, hens influx of dodges)
: if u are in coinflip games it means u belong at that elo, or u are getting closer to the elo u belong, and the closer u get the more hell u receive for trying to struggle against coinflip
nail on the head. BUT when an iron 1 player makes it into a S2/S1 game - thats kinda... fucked. Not even fucked, its worse... and then to top it off, that iron 1 player has a 33% win rate over all... thats like eating a shit stained piece of bread that you yourself shit in... (I do have photo proof, only documenting it for a very lengthy post at the end of this season if something doesn't change.) BUT LETS NOT FORGET! Riot only saw a very heavy mismatch in the MMR system at high elo...

seems to work fine with dota, cod, battlefield, without the negative connotation you used. This is actually true for multiple games. You have the option even in premade groups to opt out of league voice. This is no different in any other game, you can and should be able to opt out.

: That can and would be abused.
Not going to argue that - it really could, but given how MMR and it's correlation to rank work, you'd net more LP, but no MMR on your main position, which nets you, and also hurts you...
Quepha (NA)
: a net gain literally destroys the ladder. It doesn't matter if you've incentivized people to play, the ranking falls apart.
As you have stated and you shall wait until the 15th, when you actually will receive less LP (you? you aren't ranked...) for wins/losses on off-positions due to the MMR difference between your main, secondary, and filled positions - what I'm saying will still hold, to a much wider variant...

I'm sorry but your proposal shows you have no idea what you are talking about and would produce something 10x worse than the worst Riot has ever done with their ranked system. You misunderstand my statement, (and misunderstand HOW my statement works in a practical sense) would you be more willing to win, and lose less, if there was incentive to win on an off role? By your statement: no. Where are we at currently? +/- 3 is 1 dodge, (except with 1 dodge, you actually lose -15 across the whole playing field, and -50 on the second and beyond) - you give players an incentive to play, and win, they will, if you don't they wont. Hens where we are.
Quepha (NA)
: They're removing the concept of a positional rank (but not positional MMR) so now games on offroles will count for your overall rank at normal amounts of LP gain/loss. What I was proposing was to keep positional rank and have limited/no LP splashing while off role, and instead more heavily weight lp gains/losses based on your positional MMR so players still tend to get their LP to match their MMR in the same average number of games.
I'd be okay more so with a forced +11, -6 LP gain//loss in off positions, but thats just me, Positional ranked (as it stands currently) is not something that a person wants to play (IE: if i dodge an off role, ALL OTHER ROLES get -10, whilst also including -10 in the off role i got assigned, which is hell to makeup for... a singular rank that would display overall performance would be best... and that is what we're moving too, still appreciate sapmagic for his work towards positional ranks, but too much weight... too little gain

Quepha (NA)
: That's not how it necessarily has to be. LP gains/losses follow your MMR and MMR is still positional. All Riot has to do is weight LP gains/losses harder and you'll get to your "true" rank faster.
That is what they are doing? at the very least, that is what i took away from the OP link

: Riot. Seriously I have to complain about the quality of matchmaking.
A simple fix without really going into detail: Uninstall the game. They wont listen to you :)
: Positional ranking is horrible. It was implemented because of the population drop from Season 8. They had to rely on the auto-fill system. It was also designed to hold players hands when they get autofilled. So, it was a deceptive and strategic move by RIot. League turned into a casual game. There's nothing competitive about it. Season 8's "Runes Reforged" system was designed for casual players with all of the over-excessive damage, RNG elements, and overloaded kits from new/updated champions. The sad thing about this is that casual players don't enjoy the game either. RIot is consistently making bad gameplay design. Not only that, the balance team is non-existent. So, they tried to mask the problem by creating "Clash." However, that failed. Then they tried to make a permanent Battle Royale mode for the casuals. I don't know what happened to that. The state of League of legends during Season 8 was so bad that the existing player base who were both competitive and casuals stopped playing the game. Which is why Riot implemented positional rankings because they knew that they are going to be forced to rely on the "auto-filled" system. * Ghostcrawler leaves Lead Designer and is relocated to a new Riot Games' project. * Meddler gets the Lead position * Meddler and his goons admit that the state of League is garbage * Tyler1 was gaining so much Twitch viewers, Riot had no choice but to unban him to help bring new players into League. * missions are forcing players to watch their LCS/World live streams and vods Riot has been in panic mode since Season 8.

: Why wouldn't they though? Unless you are implying the system is actively discriminating some players there would have to be some underlying reason for that. I mean, if you had said 1% or something along those lines, I'd chalk it up to statistical outliers, but that seems way too much for that.
Computers only do what people tell them to do, I don't blame the system... for that matter, I don't blame the designer of the old system... (hope that answers your question without directly stating the answer to your question)
TrulyBland (EUNE)
: What do you mean with that? This isn't just something the system is supposed to actively… **do** somehow. This is a mathematical consequence, and as such universally true. If you keep playing at a higher skill level you **will** win more games. It might take a while, but the variance becomes a less and less significant factor as you increase your skill level further (if you can) or simply the number of games you play.
You misunderstand, I am agreeing with you - How you explained it, that is how it should work, but for some 20-30% of players in every "bracket" ("" to be used loosely because its the wrong term but cant find a better one to use) while improving, aren't being matched with better players
rujitra (NA)
: Do you have a citation for that? Players have been matched across ranks since I started regularly playing in season 2. Further, Riot has specifically said before that MMR is your skill while Ranked is your win/loss. Just because you *think* something doesn’t make it true dude.
I don't think, I do my research. Unfortunately its against forum rules to drop shit like that so best of luck on your research :)
rujitra (NA)
: That’s not how MMR works. MMR is not only affected by winning or losing. **LP** and your **rank** are only affected by winning/losing. But MMR is affected by your actual skill and gameplay.
Lets reiterate what the OP asked, Would you rather have a mildly toxic 15-0 player on your team or a 0-10 player that doesn't talk or talks very little? with your responses: If you don’t want to play a game with teammates of your skill level, either don’t play, or improve your skill level. You are matched based on your MMR. if both of the above are true, my statements hold water because I'd rather have a severely toxic 15-0 over someone not communicating...
TrulyBland (EUNE)
: I'm not sure I follow... If you improve your skill you are much more likely to win games, as you win games your MMR increases, and as your MMR increases you will play with people with a higher skill. One person can increase their MMR level and, therefore, one person can climb to the point where they get matched with better teammates.
THAT is how it should work... (believe me, the way you described it - that IS how it should work 100%) - but unfortunately for a lot of people, that isn't how it works... at all
rujitra (NA)
: You are matched based on your MMR. Your MMR is based on your play skill - not based on winning/losing. Period.
MMR is affected by win//loss just as much as ELO is affected by win//loss (maybe to a lesser degree in both directions, but still) - Otherwise we would be seeing Bronze players matched with gold... OH s*** wait... isn't this season the only season (beyond S3) that its happened? Pondering thoughts...
TrulyBland (EUNE)
: One person can increase their skill level on average with a lot of randomly determined teammates of an equal (estimated) skill level, though. You can't win without "your team", but "your team" is a meaningless notion when you are looking at more than one game because it keeps changing.
You aren't wrong (just making that clear up front) but lets look at the context of what he said: If you don’t want to play a game with teammates of your skill level, either don’t play, or improve your skill level. What he is telling people to do is quit OR improve (again, to be clear, "if you don't want to play a game with teammates of your skill level") You cannot improve the QUALITY of the match without winning. NOW re-read what I said prior Also: your statement isn't entirely accurate, See a very recent RatIRL stream in which how many games were won in a row as a duo? seems he was hurting 8 other players rather then helping any
rujitra (NA)

If you don’t want to play a game with teammates of your skill level, either don’t play, or improve your skill level. Just to be clear Leagues MMR is the only determination of "skill level" - One cannot "increase their MMR" without winning, you cannot win without your team... so your statement "improve your skill level" cannot apply because ONE person can increase in skill level but it not show in MMR - hens you are stuck with the same players... I spend more time playing DotA 2 than I do playing league anymore - Hell I even watch DotA Esports far more than I do league... While I agree with you on dragon changes I don't think that really cemented it for me - The start of last season really began to make me realize league was never going to be what it used to be... "balance" isn't something dev's take into account for players, instead they do for esports, which is still an extensively long... drawn out.... game in comparison to what solo q is - and they only further pushed me away this season... forget the absolutely HIDEOUS rank system, but changin up the the exp out of the jungle really screwed just about EVERYONE over - its "gank or lose" meta, and there is no "ifs, ands" or "buts" about it... there is no method to do otherwise... which creates no variance... just makes shit not fun... rather have a high skill gap then this shit...
