Deep inside, he wondered why she hadn't suggested to go there first, given her excitement, but Garen didn't pursue the train of thought as he nodded and gave her an affirmative grunt. "Of course," He started, "You are my honored guest. I would be remiss if I did not show you one of the most iconic landmarks of the city during your stay here." Garen said with a soft outbreak of laughter, but not enough to be boisterous. He'd brace his arm like a textbook gentleman, and placed his other hand over her's as he began to walk, slowly at first, to let Lucette set the pace. Onward they went towards the Citadel of Dawn!

She felt a little bad for bringing in a bit of a gloomy air to the conversation, so the change was welcomed.* "Have you seen the Grand Plaza?" Garen asked, thinking of common landmarks in the city that he didn't originally consider. It was a nice spot for those who've never been really wandering around Demacia much, with its wide-open space and an atrium that felt smooth and refined from the white stone that made it up. A sight to see, most definitely, and somewhere Garen would be more than likely given access no matter what seems to be happening there. "Or the Citadel of Dawn?" He added.

He rubbed his chin lightly. What an interesting turn of events. Suddenly, a benefactor? Truly, this must be some ruse, or perhaps something akin to a trap! Hextech not only gave rise to an advanced society like Piltover, it also created Zaun. To see Demacia turn into something akin of the latter would be a tragedy. Garen had in mind to refuse, of course, as Demacia has more than capable of halting threats on its own. But it did pique his interest why there would be this person from Miserath Armories suddenly willing to aid the Demacian cause.

Garen said, his brows furrowing slightly. He, too, had quite the number of things to be concerned about. This so-called mage rebellion, being a primary concern that looms in the darkness. Garen believed strongly against magic, the use of it should be condemned. But not the people. People are people, with their aspirations, hopes, dreams, flaws, and attitudes. They have their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, uncles, aunts, cousins, and so much more. They have their skills, their passions, and their love. Magic does not erase all of that. It is simply something that must either be quarantined, or cured. His heart bled at the strife of Demacia's ways, and how there ARE those who would see to it to abuse and treat mages like animals. These mages were still Demacian. They were still his people. While he sympathizes for the rebellion's cause, he also must be the one to put it down. Their way of achieving the changes they want is done through anarchy, chaos, and destruction. It is not the way for the mages to change Demacia. It is the way for Demacia to forever close their hearts to understanding them. Though, he daydreamed enough and he'd wrap an arm around Lucette in a brief hug. "This world needs hope. And it's up to us to deliver it, no?"

Garen jested with a smile, appreciating the man's consideration of his public standpoint and what a nightmare for Public Relations it would have been had he just openly accepted. "Perhaps something to look into when you decide to retire from actively adventuring and fighting. Help change Demacia from within." **"So they say~ I'm inclined to start believing them, though I would make an odd politician wearing this armor everywhere." ** > Nevertheless, the Vanguard captain's azure gaze did fall onto his paperwork, the framed pictures of his loved ones by his desk, and finally back to Sir Leofrick as he would nod. "I'm sure no one would find it out of place if I were to take an evening stroll and happen to duck into a tavern to check on the patrons and see what I can do for them." He said, going along with the knight's plan of not officially declaring anything. "I doubt I am capable of forgetting completely about the troubles that I carry upon my shoulders, but I do not see any harm in *temporarily* doing so." > > Garen grinned at that, seemingly happy to be given leave from his desk. "Now, which tavern's patrons needed checking in on?" Leofrick _was_ confident but even he doubted his ability to rub Garen's unshakable conduct. Chuckling along quietly the knight stood up straight, acting much like protocol demanded back in the days. **"It'd be an honour for a Montira to aid house Crownguard in overseeing that the taverns of Demacia operate at peak efficiency."** He smiled back under his helm, happy to have him along. **"Onwards then, yes? The eagle's landing _should_ represent Demacia's best ale."** Turning around Leo took the lead, leading the elder of the Crownguard siblings out of the headquarters and into the well-kept streets. Even out her things were as rigid as ever, though children played and adults conversed the streets were a comfortable level of careful maintenance, along with plenty of discipline. It only took them a brisk 10-15 min walk to reach the bar and part tavern marked with a sign that hanged over the entrance _Eagle's landing._ A fairly low populated bar where soldiers or parents ventured, the chill nature being appealing to some. **"Here we are."** Leofrick mused, stopping for a moment to check on Garen. **"They might cause a little ruckus, but that's in our nature. Though I won't object to intervention if we shall put it like that."** [So step inside, ye mighty.](https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/003/338/137/large/brett-johnson-tavernshot05-1910.jpg?1472592452) Creaking open the oak door he invited Demacia's might inside, closing it shortly behind him he sucked in a breath the unmistakable scent of strong ale and subtle amounts of halm hitting him. Most patrons seemed gathered around the middle table, one of them slamming a fist into the wood upon seeing the knight. "Montira bloody Leofrick." The others grunting along, turning to face the pair. Most, if not all were scarred and battle-hardened the 'leader' of them getting up on heavy steps. He was one of the older, somewhere in his mid-50s going by his greying military buzzcut and 5'oclock shadow on his chiselled chin. His belly was iron, his muscles rippling through the simple shirt, each step the floor objected with a creak as he met the knight with a meaty handshake, Leo seemed to struggle, losing the fight against the larger's man influence. **"Mm. Aaron Ironbellow, still haven't lost your fat belly have you?"** Grunting back at the man his tone was far less feminine, leaning towards masculine. "Ya blond shite." He playfully pushed the knight in the chest, making him stumble back. "Hehe, it's good to see you." Leofrick steadied himself, brushing off his armour. **"As always Ironbellow.** Now turning to Garen the man seemed equal, if slightly shorter in height to him. "Well, what have we here?" Patting his belly the man gave him a short grin, holding his hand out for a handshake. "Excuse the formalities, I've had to deal with gathering up every old guard of the 5th legion for today." He looked back at the rest of them, no more than 12 left of them. "Like I said, long day. I hope you are not here to shut us down. We are a bit loud, I'll give but I haven't gotten a single complaint in 30 years of coming here." The bartender, a woman far older than everyone else in the room polished a beer tap, spitting in a designated can her worn features gave nothing away as she pilfered some tobacco from a container behind the bar. "Tsch, only reason I keep around the old fool is that he brings business around here." Returning to her work of filling a tray of beer mugs, chewing on some fresh tobacco.

Much to the protest of the younger employees, the elder mentors would then shuffle them along to more paperwork or perhaps armor polishing to let Garen leave without much tarry. Perhaps his employees got so used to him being in the office that they had separation anxiety, like children! It was endearing to see, but nevertheless, he carried onward. Out in the streets, the pair garnered curious looks, some children stopping their games to stare in awe of the Might of Demacia walking past. As the man who was indebted to the people of Demacia for picking him up at his lowest, he'd give a friendly wave and a happy smile to those who were looking, but clearly not as if he was on parade. Just a quick greeting from one Demacian to the other, and went on about his business. Once the sign for the Eagle's Landing became apparent, Garen would take an inaudible deep breath. It may be quiet or peaceful from this side of the door, but it could be a whole different show on the other. As Sir Leofrick checked on him, Garen gave a simple nod. "It is a place for people to unwind. A bit of ruckus, while not overbearing, is part of the ambiance of a tavern, is it not?" Moving in after his knight companion, Garen took a gander at the place. It was nice and cozy, not too different from the taverns he used to visit in his younger days, when he had much to work towards, to prove, and before he was acknowledged as more than just "another noble". A faint smile rested upon his lips at the exchange between the Ironbellow fellow and Leofrick, opting to keep his silence until the older man turned to address him. "Formalities excused, it is a pleasure to meet with you." He said, reaching in to grab Ironbellow's hand and gave him a firm and vigorous shake. "The 5th. Brave men. I've heard of your exploits. Quite the decorated legion, as well, if my memory is to be believed." Garen would then let go of Ironbellow's hand as he looked to dozen behind him. "No, Sir Ironbellow, I am not here to shut you down. In fact, I was inspired by Sir Leofrick here to check out the Eagle's Landing and see what we can do to... liven up the evening. Of course, if you'd allow me."

He listened to her words and thought about his own, but eh has trained and drilled himself as close to perfection as he could in the service of Demacia. He has thought about his own family and future, but it never lingered long for the work is hard and it won't do itself. With a sigh, Garen looked to Lucette and smiled at her faintly as she grabbed his hand. No one else had been so bold as to do so, but he didn't mind much. "When the time comes, I will be sure to make ready." He said, nodding to her as he walked her along more of the park, taking in the nice view of the green shrubbery and trees that were well-groomed and taken care of. "Hope sounds nice. I am glad that your parents found love that way." Garen said with a heartfelt smile. It was a true story of love, almost like a novel at that, with such picturesque perfection and narrative. It sounded like something straight out of the books Luxanna used to read as a teenager. "Don't apologize for something you're passionate about." Garen said then, noting her apology earlier on. "You shouldn't be sorry for it. That is your true self, your true calling. To be able to see that is a blessing in of itself, as I'm sure it doesn't come to surface all that often. The forces that oppose Demacia work tirelessly trying to bring us down, and as a defender of her, I too, must work tirelessly." He let out a faint smile. "I have great joy in my work, I do not feel the need to find breaks. But I am not opposed to a good drink, even if I am of noble blood." Nothing was ever simple, cynical and jaded he was, perhaps. He couldn't tell even if he wanted to, merely nodding back at Garen in respect as they switched the subject. **"Ahh, as I suspected. You are a dedicated man, _sir_."** He corrected himself, a slight playfulness tingling in his tone. Chuckling along as Garen admitted even he wasn't perfect. **"That's good to hear, I was about to call you out on that."** > > "The noble socialites and gatherings are refined and good, but sometimes being with my fellow soldiers, commoners and the like, makes me feel closer to my country. They are the majority of our population. I do not care much for entitlement and nobility when it comes to the Demacian people. We are all one big family." On that, the two agreed strongly as most Demacians would, though he disagreed on some points Leofric wholeheartedly believed that Demacia was its people, not its walls or grand statues, its people were the beating heart of civilisation. **"As a fellow noble, albeit of a lower class, I can attest that a single common soldier has a better sense of humour than all nobles gathered together."** **"But really."** He started softly, his tone honest. **"I am humbled that you consider all Demacians alike. I never once thought otherwise, but to hear it merely confirms the tall tales as true."** He paused, rubbing the lower part of the steel visor in thought, something mischevious in his limited motions, pausing for dramatic effect as he slowly but surely leaned forward hands his hands put together flatly. ** "That's why I challenge you... to a drinking contest."** Raising his hand to buy him a second. **"I know that officially you have to decline, but surely you must have some spare time after work, for one night with the men." ** Lowering his hand the humble knight was still as empathetic to Garen's own cause. **"Think about it, is all I would ask. You more than deserve a rest, even with the unrest in Demacia."** Putting a hand on his chest, he leaned back in his seat. **"Forget Sylas, Noxus, all of that. For a few hours. Our enemies may be many, but if our spirits never rest in the face of adversity, we risk breaking under it." **

Garen jested with a smile, appreciating the man's consideration of his public standpoint and what a nightmare for Public Relations it would have been had he just openly accepted. "Perhaps something to look into when you decide to retire from actively adventuring and fighting. Help change Demacia from within." Nevertheless, the Vanguard captain's azure gaze did fall onto his paperwork, the framed pictures of his loved ones by his desk, and finally back to Sir Leofrick as he would nod. "I'm sure no one would find it out of place if I were to take an evening stroll and happen to duck into a tavern to check on the patrons and see what I can do for them." He said, going along with the knight's plan of not officially declaring anything. "I doubt I am capable of forgetting completely about the troubles that I carry upon my shoulders, but I do not see any harm in *temporarily* doing so." Garen grinned at that, seemingly happy to be given leave from his desk. "Now, which tavern's patrons needed checking in on?"

"Intrigue of romance and whatnot are bountiful in noble courts and gatherings. You'd fin a plethora of rumors and whatnot coming from those areas in regards to my romantic interests." Garen said with a jesting tone, before taking a turn which led them towards one of Demacia's parks, a nice environment to relax and be one with nature. Hand on his heart the knight nodded back at Garen. **"Demacia is still in my heart, Crownguard. No matter where my path takes me I will never forget what our nation has gifted me. But a year is long indeed!"** He laughed, audibly at that but quickly resumed a more reserved position, listening to Garen eyes brimming with a warmth that was echoed by his empathetic voice in the matter. >Our family have been treated the same as usual. We are a proud family to serve Demacia and her people. Luxanna serves to the best of her capacity, as am I." **"It is good to hear. Demacia expects nothing but the best of us, and we should strive for nothing less."** He didn't pick up on the pause until it settled on Garen's features as he looked away, falling silent in a stiff manner with a clear of his throat to give him the 'go ahead'. > "Some people may say there is strife between brother and sister, but I assure you, they misunderstand. I simply want to ensure Luxanna secures a bright future for Demacia, and sometimes she gets herself into situations that may not let her do so. Such is the work of an older sibling." Though he could not adequately express it the knight's features knitted together behind the armoured mask, a familiar sting of the past that similarly gave him pause. For a moment he seemed distant his eyes peering through Garen before he resumed eye contact his lax nature replaced by rigidness, more in tune with a noble with his newfound reservedness though with the attitude of a soldier as he spoke. **"I... know far too well the nature of such matters. ** **"'Tis not easy to make such judgments. I believe that we all must find our own path in this life, but I also believe in serving your country. What I _can_ say without offering personal advice on a private subject is that sometimes you have to let go. Or in Fiora of house Laurent's case... make your own path with what you believe in. Family should always come first, but I chose to become a soldier over a life as a noble because I believe in the cause."** Not wanting to get in political debate after a fair few years of internal fighting within the family the knight was quick to shift the conversation to a lighter subject. **"So, what does the might of Demacia pursue in his free time? At a guess, I would assume training."** Leaning in his eyes shifted right and left for a moment. **"But as a soldier myself, I'd say the nearest bar."** **"Getting buzzed is not the highest form of entertainment... but I do miss the company."** He smiled, allowing a small chuckle to escape him. **"But alas, you are of noble blood. I would assume you or your father takes care of your house and its name. It leaves little in free time I find, but you never know."** Winking at him once with blond eyebrows the knight allowed Garen to steer the conversation for now. _Did he blabber again? Not good...-_

Garen had always been close to Luxanna, and she is a part of Demacia as much as Demacia is a part of him. His work to further the cause, and to ensure Demacia and her people live peacefully and safely, extends to her as well. There were many thoughts and confusion in his mind that toiled in there and festered, but he was quick to banish them in refusal. Though, the knight's words didn't go completely ignored. Garen started seeing Lux's activity as a phase, perhaps a late rebellious phase? It would all make sense if that were all it were, and Garen knew better than to assume that was the end of it. Nevertheless, the topic switched, and Garen visibly eased back into his chair as his azure gaze looked at his companion and fellow soldier. "You would be correct in thinking I train. There isn't a moment's time to lose when I am freed of desk duties such as paperwork or meetings and whatnot. The forces that oppose Demacia work tirelessly trying to bring us down, and as a defender of her, I too, must work tirelessly." He let out a faint smile. : [Alice](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eetvMtCUIG3eaTfkYc94pFmDemYM8svhbOczMgvOKgg/edit?usp=sharing) looked up to the impressive marble building. The sun was dancing on its walls, making her eyes almost blind. She took few deep breaths to brace herself. Then she slowly walked up to the door and then up the hallway, hesitating here and there, eventually ended up asking some of the guard to direct her toward the captain´s office. After a while where she felt almost as in the wonderland itself and wondered the hallways looking around, she finally stood in front of the captain´s door. The guards let her come closer and knock. She was unarmed, fragile looking young woman, dressed in simple grey tunic and leather jacket, closly fitting riding pants and high leather riding shoes, obviously old and used, but well-cared for. Her fallow hair were tied to the plait and on her face was nervous expression, also she was playing with her fingers in rather nervous way: all in all, she didnt seem to be a threat. With crazily beating heart, Alice awaited the answer from behind the door.

Just a quick walk from point A to point B before the guard gave a nod of goodbye as he returned to his post. As she stood by the door, some vanguards or clerks would give her a simple glance, figuring she had business with the captain, and left her to her devices. The way she fidgeted her fingers had others think that it was perhaps her first visit here. Maybe she wanted to sign up and work here? Many people seem to be visiting the captain that didn't look like soldiers, after all. Nevertheless, the knock was answered by the door opening, and as if blocking the view from within the office, Garen stood by the doorway and opened the door through and through as he looked at Alice. "Oh." He started, before moving aside and beckoned for her to enter the office. "Come in, please." He said, before sticking a wooden wedge under the door to prop it open. "Can I get you anything?" He asked, seemingly skipping introductions for now. The captain noticed the way the woman behaved, and he HAS been told he could be intimidating just standing in front of someone. In an effort to make the woman feel welcome, he figured to treat her like a guest in his own home instead of at the work place.

The conviction behind his words was too obvious and strong to have been passed off as an indoctrinated automatic response. After just a few more moments of walking, they approached a door with Garen's name on a placard. And he knocked on the door before opening it for the Judicator. Garen, sitting inside seemingly tidying up the scrolls of parchment that built mountains around him, looked up to the door and at the intern, then at Kayle. Clad in armor, expression stoic... why, he must be here for the captain! She simply kept a smile and a warm gaze as he stood in the lobby. From memory, she had a list of names that had appointments with the captain, and hearing the man's introduction as 'Leofrick Montira' popped off an almost audible ding in her head as he remembered seeing his name on the list. "Ser Leofrick. The captain has been expecting you." She said, moving around the front desk and pushing aside the low swinging door that acted as the easiest way to pass the threshold from her post and into the lobby floor. She held her hands by her stomach and gave him a small bow, before beckoning to the dark wooden staircase behind them. "Follow me, please." She said, before moving on towards the staircase and began ascending the steps. As they walked down hallways and doors, they finally arrived at the destination, and she would knock on the door thrice before a deep voice beckoning them to enter came from the other side. The woman opened the door and walked inside. "Captain, Ser Leofrick has arrived." She announced. Garen, who had been mostly signing his name over and over in a monotonous drive across parchments stacked almost as tall as a man, looked up from his desk to the woman, and to Leofrick standing behind her. He placed his quill into the inkwell and sealed the parchment he had just finished signing, before standing from his seat to move around his desk. He seemed pretty engrossed in her tale, already thinking to himself of the uses of such mechanical birds. While replacing traditionally bred messenger birds for mechanical ones may cause discord, Garen could see the long-term viability of such a replacement. Not only will they have the opportunity to grow the population of the local birds used for parcel and messaging, they could bypass the need for resting a bird as mechanical birds most likely do not have the same need to rest from fatigue that biological birds do. It was an interesting idea, but it was simply an idea for now. "No, I don't think that's silly. It is an understandable sentiment. We grow attached to people and things because of our wish to protect and nurture. It is human nature. Anyone who thinks you're silly because of that should re-evaluate the things they hold dear. There are too many people emotionally attached to gold coins." He said so matter-of-factly, taking a sip from his drink before offering a smile to Lucette.

Garen said, a hint of suspicion and also brotherly love and care, his worry was almost visible on his features but he wasn't afforded time to look vulnerable. He would simply wave it off, shake his head, smile, and then look to Lucette as she asked about what it was that the captain would want to ask his noble guest. To start off, there wasn't quite many things he wanted to ask outright, but given the setting, perhaps it was appropriate to ask a few. "What spurred you to create your companions?" He started, looking to Gear and Gizmo. "Surely it was not due to lack of friends?"

I seek an audience unrelated to military and house matters, your strength and dedication to Demacia's cause fill me with a sense of pride that I have yet to express._ _I have no desire to use your time for adoration and flattering comments, but rather because of my cause. It continues to challenge me, but I remain a shield for the innocent and a weapon against those that would harm them._ _Though I do not serve in the military any longer I serve Demacia and its ideals where I go, but it has made me question my faith at times. I sympathise with how you may feel about my position, but I believe that the world can be better than what it is if Demacia shows them the way. If the intern would move aside without any meaningful remarks, the angel would put the golden, runic blade onto the front desk gently, then ask for directions for the Captain's quarters.

He'd step aside for her to move, watching her move past and remained in his position, standing tall and proud as he watched the clerks give a courteous bow to the angel as they carefully took the runic blade and safely stored it in the room behind the front desk, and directed Kayle up a flight of stairs and to a door on her right as soon as she ascended, before remaining quiet. That was when the young intern stepped up once more to the angel, however maintaining a respectful distance. "I can lead you there, if you'd follow me, please." He said, turning crisply on his heel to start walking to the staircase. Whatever the reason of his haste, it was perhaps to get the Captain's guest to his quarters as soon as possible. It wasn't, after all, common for the Captain to have guests like Kayle.

"Yes. This place has not let me down, and I doubt they will." He said, before eating his food as well in less of a refined manner than Lucette. In fact, he ate... rather normally. There was an absence of overly rehearsed way of eating, or the sense of nobility in the way he ate. It was just efficient, for better or for worse. After a few bites and a drink, Garen resumed his attention to his dear guest. "Yes, she's a good sister. There was only one person in this entire building that would even get the attention of someone of that stature, and that was none other but the Captain. While the guards kept their vigilant duty keeping guard, no one had really crossed paths with the Judicator except that one intern, on his first day, walking right up to the golden clad woman and held up a hand as he stopped himself within respectable distance. "Ma'am," he started off, confidence fully reflected in his voice, but so was his respect, "May I ask you to leave your weapon with our front desk clerks? It is policy within the headquarters of the Dauntless Vanguard to not walk around armed unless by command of the King or the Captain." He'd say. What an earnest young man, barely a day over nineteen summers, but he stood tall and proud, and respectful to the angelic woman, where the others seemed to be paralyzed in fear and reverence.

How is she? Garen would smile and nod, taking a sip of his own drink in a refined manner, as expected of him, before putting it down and looking over to the right at where the harbor was. "My sister is in town. I suppose she is doing well. She hasn't spoken to me in a few days." Garen mentioned, before looking at Lucette and offered her a simple smile as the waiters brought over their food. "We could visit her if you'd like, if she's available?" Garen asked, motioning for Lucette to eat. She was his guest, and she had top priority right now, even if his thoughts were momentarily distracted by thinking about his dear sister.
: A public courier - not a military one - would arrive at the headquarters of the Dauntless Vanguard. He would leave behind a letter addressed to the leader of the Dauntless Vanguard from the Judicator herself. It was obvious that this wasn't a crucial matter, having used a rather slow and unfocused method of communication. Whether or not their leader received and read the letter in a timely manner would be up to his men decisions and the amount of paperwork that the man himself faced. The letter itself was a plain, white envelope sealed with red wax, with the required information for one to send a letter. The contents and the outside of the letter would be written in practiced and clean writing. > To the Crownguard of the Dauntless Vanguard > > I would wish to speak to you about multiple matters, as I was told of your loyalty and resolve by the crown prince himself. : A letter arrives adressed to none other but the might of Demacia himself, from the captain of the royal guard. To Garen of house crownguard. Though we do not often see eye to eye I try my best to learn from Demacia's finest. My question to you, Garen, is one I have always struggled with myself. When you strike a man through his heart I see no passion in your motions, no anger, just a man doing his duty. I do not understand this almost tranquil state, it is as if you are detached from everything but the battle itself yet not. I know and experience this state myself but the fury in my heart is not one I can easily quell. It is always there, a primal desire to give in to my anger. Perhaps my ancestry makes true impassionate killing an impossibility, but I try. Is it discipline and hard training that allows you to tap into this state of mind I wonder. Or is it just who you are, someone who is above the passion of bloodshed when it comes to serving Demacia. Perhaps the question can't be answered but I await your response nonetheless, perhaps we can both learn... even come to understand each other in due time. It is my honour to serve Demacia and its people, I do not wish to dishonour them or the warriors I bleed with in battle. My fury is my greatest weapon... and flaw. -Shyvana.

It was a miracle what he could do if he just took a whole day to himself with no appointments, no meetings, no patrol details, no inspections, and no visitors. With a sigh, he leaned back against his chair, before a silent knock echoed at his door. "Come in," Garen called out, and in came a young blonde woman, dressed in the uniform of the royal couriers. She carried an air of discipline and self-control, as she gave Garen a bow and delivered the letter from the captain of the royal guard. Garen gave a curious raise of the brow at the letter, before thanking the woman who made her way out of his office as fast as she entered. Garen eyed the envelope for a while, before finally opening and reading its contents. A few more moments go by, and Garen took up a pen and parchment to reply. >Shyvana, > >I am honored that someone of your stature and status has observed me in battle. To answer your question, however, it is as simple as you say it is. In battle, I am there as a vessel to channel through my duty to Demacia and her people. My own passion is to serve, no matter the cost. Those who stand on the opposite side of Demacia do so knowing they will meet us, or perhaps, me. They have a duty to uphold, and so do I. If I let my passion, anger, or emotion conflict with the purpose of my mission, or my duty in battle, then I have failed even if that battle results in a victory. The ends do not justify the means in that matter. My harsh and inhospitable training in the Dauntless Vanguard, as well as experience on the battlefield has refined me to be able to achieve this state of the mind. > >The Ionians are rumored to follow the same mindset. They channel fury, anger, passion, and emotion into efficiency and appear as if they do not feel at all. To be so detached from the horrified screams of agony of those you strike down, and to continue without hesitation to fulfill your duty to the most that you can, is a trait not many have, yet many strive for. If your fury is your greatest weapon and flaw, then it would be wise to find a way to harness those emotions and energy into performing exceptionally well in your duty. Your fury sounds like my sword. Both sides are sharp, yet I train enough to not harm myself with it when I strike with it in battle. > >I do want to learn more about you, and your thought process, as well as your philosophies, should time allow us. I want to be assured you can keep your fury in check around the Prince. > >Yours in Good Health, >Garen

The captain called out almost immediately, his lieutenants relaying the order down the line of the company of Dauntless Vanguards as they slammed their visors on, and with fleet footwork despite heavy armor, they managed to get into place. "Lieutenant, recover that man!" The tasked lieutenant would take two soldiers with him, running over with shields and spears primed to defend themselves from sudden threats. A Demacian bloodied and frightened along a frequent patrol route? That wasn't a good sign. Garen would calmly assess his surroundings. It had been oddly quiet around here. The general wildlife has gone silent when their ambience put comfort in his soldiers on patrol. After a few moments, with broadsword in hand, Garen's soldiers moved out to expand their perimeter. Taking this long to wait after a bait has been shoved out meant perhaps a large area of effect, and being cooped up in a tight formation was the worst thing that they could do. The lieutenant looked at the bloody soldier, "What happened, soldier?"

He said, motioning to a nearby outdoor restaurant with smoke coming off the grills and the nice waft of the aromas of the herbs spices added to the grilling of a variety of seafood, from fish to squid.

With arms linked, Garen knew he couldn't go his usual pace. He did seem like he was constantly in a hurry when he was walking alone, but now he was with a guest, and a lady at that! He must uphold the gentlemanly behavior and go her pace. It seems word had spread fast across Demacia that their beloved Captain has been walking arm-in-arm with a lady! And a relatively unknown one as well! There were many conversations and hushed voices, but none with bad intent. Garen looked to Lucette, and continued to walk to the harbor as the smell of the sea faded into their senses. > > "Your birds are well made. I assume you made them? What is their power source?" Garen asked, taking the opportunity to ask something about Lucette's work while they made their way to their destination. He had taken an interest in the birds ever since the first time they flew into his window to deliver the message of their lady's arrival and request for his guidance! He wanted to know if somehow, Demacia could copy this technology. The use of live carrier birds is putting a toll on the population of the wild birds, and a non-organic alternative might be a welcome breeze. *She giggled as her eyes lit up a bit* Thank you, but yes and no. My father made Gear, who was the first one made. I was young at the time and loved him. So i wanted to make one of my own and give Gear a friend, and so, i made Gizmo. Not as good as Gear, and dad helped to make sure i didn't blow anything up. But i loved him very much. *She laughs* I remember looking very proud of myself when we got him to work. Bbuuttt, he came out a bit.... different. *As she said so, Gizmo was pecking around near a small group of birds. One of them getting a bit aggressive and hopping at Gizmo, making him run, and right into a pole. It slid down and landed on the ground. Gear flew over and pecked at him. Gizmo then got up and started flying around like nothing happened* He's got a bit of a personality. You can see why i sent Gear instead of Gizmo. As for what powers them, well. Dad managed to get an ionian crystal. It was very powerful. He found it in a cave while he was exploring one of their many forests. Though there powerful, they still have limits. They can heat up and "Short circuit" In a way. Gear and Gizmo have a couple of tricks. But if used to much then they can over heat. *While she was talking and walking with him, she could occasionally hear someone muttering or whispering about her and Garen. She would occasionally blush, and try to ignore them by talking with Garen more and taking in the senses of the harbor. But it still sat in her mind.*

It was always good to let them do the talking instead of barraging them with questions, which often ends in an abrupt stop in the conversations when the questions and answers stop. Garen would be engrossed in her story, and before long he heard his footsteps not on cobbled road, but on firm wood. They've reached the boardwalk! With the ocean to their right, and stores, shops, restaurants, and offices located to their left, they were gifted with a nice sea breeze and the wafting smell of seafood being cooked in various different ways. Garen smiled a bit as he could feel all five senses missing the feeling of the harbor, then looked to Lucette. "An interesting prospect. I might send some scholars to examine for caves in Ionia." Garen said, but he shifted from wanting to harness this power into making sure it didn't get into the wrong hands. Who knows what Noxus could do with machinations like this. Garen pushed aside all his serious business thoughts and made way for Lucette in his mind, finally asking her, "Where would you like to eat? There's a good restaurant with fine dining, a more casual grilled seafood shop, or we could try one of the many kiosks and stands just cooking food outside. Your choice."

: The Grand Manor of House Laurent [Ask Fiora - The Grand Duelist]
Wearing a rather casual attire for someone held in the highest of standards, Garen approached the Laurent Estate with a swiftness in his step. He has never been one to leisurely take his time when moving towards his destination unless it was tactically sound. For now, he just wished to have a simple conversation with the current head of House Laurent. The estate was impressive by all means, however Garen wasn’t as struck by its splendor, hailing from House Crownguard himself. While he didn’t believe in petty political rivalry barring interactions between the nobles, Garen was aware of any… powerplays that may come his way during this visit. All of Demacia was his family, after all. ALL of Demacia. Garen didn’t bring with him a letter, or invitation for that matter, as he met with the dutiful guardsmen that patrolled the estate. He followed their protocol, however, and allowed them to act as they wished to deem him worthy of entering the estate, if his rank, name, and title didn’t suffice. “I wish to visit your lady,” Garen would say to the guards, announcing his intent. Surely there is no harm in a noble visiting another for the sake of conversation.

Garen had been quite obviously watching the woman, his eyes not so piercing as a hawk. In fact, behind his usual expression, she might be able to tell that he could also feel the somber atmosphere of the place. Of the sorrows of the people that the departed had left behind, of the regrets some may have, and goodbyes that were never said or heard. It was all too familiar to Garen, having had to personally deliver the message that a loved one has died to too many families. Although, he knew the cycle would continue. These names were not going to be the last names written in this hall, but he had hoped that their memories and feats in life would carry the living onwards. After all, Garen champions them, treating Demacia and her people like his own family, sometimes even more than his actual kin. But none of that mattered now. His heart felt rather joyful that she thought to give one of the flowers given to her. Garen felt like it was a heartfelt gesture, one done sincerely and not from obligation to the dead. Once Lucette made eye contact with Garen, he'd offer a faint smile, and a look that asked if she was finished with her business here. While he didn't mind staying, the Hall of Valor wasn't exactly the place to go sight-seeing.

He would feel his heart warm at her words, as someone with compassion that runs this deep was rare to find, and they came few and far between. Garen would give a nod to acknowledge her words, before looking onto a split in the road. One led to the great harbor district of Demacia, while the other led towards the marketplace. Given they had passed through the marketplace somewhat on the way to the Hall of Valor, Garen thought about bringing her to the harbor. Have a taste of Demacian seafood. From what he had observed, food was a good way to cheer up from a stressful or emotional moment. "Are you hungry, Lucette?" Garen asked in a smooth, deep tone. He sounded caring, his words full of a sense of responsibility. "We could go to the harbor for fresh seafood if you would like. Or we can just walk through for sightseeing. It is your choice."
