As the wave moved to strike the enemy before her, Riven would take action. She lifted the shard in her hand and swung, hard, advancing to attempt to deliver a fierce blow across the chest of the raven-haired man before her. The green energy seethed against Rhaast's edge as Kayn held the scythe tightly. His mind was more focused on subduing the darkin's will than striking his opponent. An assassin who wasn't aiming to take the life of his target was an assassin doomed to fail. And for Kayn, this was a three-sided battle. Riven was an experienced warrior, it was clear she would see through his conflict and capitalize the moment his mind turned to Rhaast. He felt the change in the pressure, how the shield dissolved and redirected its power. His opponent was no longer protecting herself but openly attacking him. The first mistake would be his last. He had to choose between Rhaast's victory or Riven's blow---, a decision he hatefully made. That mere fragment of time was enough to recover some sort of opportunity. Rhaast devoured whatever magic he could while Kayn parried the blow with the scythe's shaft, yet it sent him backwards, leaving trails in the ground. It hurt, even more than before, his gaze shadowed as he dropped to one knee, teeth pressed in a pained scowl. "You're merely introducing yourself, aren't you, Exiled one? I wish to see the full fury of that blade."

Be freed of your childhood dreams.*_ Until nothing was left of the human he once was. > > "Show me what made you worthy!" Kayn's eyes widened impossibly with a grin, the scythe was braced as he dashed toward Riven, the movement strangely graceful, like a dance ending in a flourish. The weapon and the wielder were disturbingly one. Riven did not flinch as the strange warrior spoke, nor did she back away when the dark and ominous voice drifted between the two. Training took over, drills long since burned into her muscles and all but buried, only to resurface as she called back to them again. She hated what the blade shard she carried represented, what it had done, but there was one thing she had learned in her time here in Ionia... The past could not be destroyed. But the future, that was an unwritten book. This time, the path she forged was her own. As if mirroring the flickering flame within her beginning to rekindle anew, the emerald rune on her weapon glowed more fiercely. This weapon's history was well known to those of the village, across Ionia, and especially to Riven herself. But a weapon was more than just a sum of its parts, it was more than just a device of killing, of death. It was a tool, and while it could be used to unleash great atrocities, it could also be used for something more in the hands of one who knew how to use it. Her weapon was not unlike Rhaast himself, the only difference between her and Kayn's weapons, however, was that her blade had no agenda of its own... Kayn charged, but almost immediately, he would notice that something was amiss. The _wind_ had shifted. Currents of air swirled around the fallen soldier, the Exile, her amber eyes reflecting the glint of the moonlight and tufts of her silver hair rising in the breeze. The the shard in her hand began to hum, the air surrounding the area starting to vibrate, an audible crackling sound piercing the night as an arc of power jumped along the edge of the weapon. Instantly, four shards of the same blackstone material appeared around the woman's standing body, flashing into existence as if summoned by unnatural forces. They floated and circled, a translucent verdant barrier extending from them and enveloping Riven as the shadow ninja charged in, ready to defend against whatever blow he might have decided to aim upon her. "The one you want is dead. But if you seek more death, then you end here!"

Can't apologize enough. /shame Those brief seconds as the distances closed between them became slow with each heartbeat. His keen senses allowed him to realize the change, to understand the warrior he was facing was far more than a hushed shadow tormented by the past. He could feel it in the wind, the way it whispered as if it was one with Riven and her blade. '_Those Runes..._', Rhaast's eye narrowed as if he had just discovered a new toy. Yes, the magic which had been woven into the blade was an ancient one. Who could have been behind that spell? Devouring it was more tempting than what he had anticipated. 'Yes, I sense them', the boy's mind replied as the currents played with the black and blue bangs swaying against his cheekbones. But it was too late. The impact sent a gust in all directions, the scythe's curved edge struck the barrier, the emerald circumference blinking into existence around Riven. It was enough to hold his weight mid-air again. Athletic arms bent, allowing his face so dangerously close to the blade's edge. It could easily split it into two, separating the darkin scar from the still young human flesh. "Feed," he grinned, eyes wide, amused, sharing the same exhilaration that coursed through the weapon. Instead of fighting the current, the darkin's blade seemed to flow with it, attempting to absorb whatever magic formed the shield. "A pity it is dead." _No one mourned her, but you'll be useful to me_ "No, Rhaast, that power will serve me!" _"Us?"_ "Enough!" Whatever happened between them was enough to crack that unity that bound them. The scythe seethed in its malignant red, attempting to transform that magic into its own food, simultaneously stealing it from Kayn. His guard had been lowered.

However, she made her decision to keep going. > > ________ It was a single movement, a swipe of dark blue in the darkness. The spirits were ripped apart and the glimmering essence absorbed by the edge of the scythe which naturally harvested them. Power coalesced beautifully, wrapping around the red metal, nourishing the wielder more than the weapon. Rhaast didn't exactly appreciate the essence offered. No, it was dangerous, it was an energy that could tilt the delicate balance between them. And tilt it in the boy's favor. And yet, the melody continued. Rising crescendo, a counterpoint, and more. Stronger than ever as the spirits were severed. Like fragile bags of poison, the anguished emotions flowed like a vile spiritual liquid, also absorbed by the scythe and the assassin. Kayn felt the world stop around him, his eyes widening slightly as he suddenly found himself alone in the red coasts of the marsh. _Look what you have done now, Maven. _ "Rhaast?" he demanded threateningly as he realized the other's presence was strangely missing. The pressure of the darkin's consciousness was gone. Instead his hands were empty, holding only a broken sickle. His hands human again, young, strong and child-like. This wasn't right.

As the two bickered back and fourth, with Kayn heading deeper into the forests of Ionia, Rhaast would sense it before Kayn. The silence, the lack of noise. Everything here lived within fear and the pressure was oppressive. For Rhaast however, it brought back ancient memories. Memories of an Army of Mortals kneeling to the Darkin, the Aura his kinds way of keeping lesser creatures silent in the presence of an Ascended God. With each minute that Kayn continued deeper, he'd find corpses, horribly mangled. Many appeared to have been cleaved into halves or quarters, and there were occasionally massive craters lingering. Kayn could tell the weapon was at minimum a Greatsword, far larger than one anyone could, or should reasonably wield. For Rhaast, he knew this blade. This weapon was intimately familiar, a remnant of a memory of a time long forgotten thanks to the abyss their kind were trapped within. One of his fellows was nearby, and not just any rat or Rodent. One of his truest siblings, one of the four generals. Kayn using his magical senses, would quickly learn that all of the souls had already been harvested from the bodies, the forest left to devour what remained. Each pack of humans seemed to be entirely of one origin, either bilgewater pirates, Ionian peasants, Vastayan, or Noxan invaders. And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to find a single trace of the one who killed them all. The only thing he could tell is that each husk had all of it's blood drained. For Rhaast, as he too came to this realization the memory of who this was would snap into place. Aatrox, The God of War. The two had demolished many a battlefield, for what better team was there than Death and War.

'And this blade..., will be no different.' Kayn assured in his mind as silence surrounded them. The unnatural atmosphere of the forest was a mere premise to the being ahead. He should have stopped to consider the unsettled shifting of shadows and how the Ionian forest rejected the creatures gathered under their shade. He was no stranger to battlefields, fragments of corpses peering out of the mud like disgusting blossoms. The trail of remains could only end with a worthy opponent. Madness had taken too far to flinch before the obvious warnings. "So this is the power of a bored fallen god," he taunted his companion as the scythe rested on his shoulder. Rhaast's eye blinked lazily as if he already knew the outcome of the encounter. "Disgraceful. A beast dwelling in carnage. I will be so much more." _Behold, a fragment of the darkin's reborn nature. You will be no different_ "Though I admit they have mercilessly devoured their souls. A true form of death where all are equal..., hn." He stopped before one of the red tattered standards, still, no wind would sway its crimson elegance, the motionless air only made the stench deeper and more nauseous. "Even to the Noxians..., your acquaintance has been kind, Rhaast. They deserve worse. No mercy, remember?" The boy's eyes widened, taunting the horrified expression of a severed head. _The one who waits ahead was a god among warriors. Despite my healing nature, the scars persist._ "Is that so?" Kayn retorted mirthlessly amused. His gaze then stared ahead as his grip tightened and he leaped gracefully to a nearby tree. At his command, shadows wove around them, darkening the glade. _Don't be foolish, your hideout conceals nothing. He knows we're here._ "What? Has he sensed you already!?" he glared at the scythe, eyes widening with anger, irritation to see his small strategy ruined. _Maybe..._

Sorry!! He melody gently stirred the souls of the dead, the hearts, the forgotten memories, the pain. Each one of them awakened like blooms in the darkness. Everywhere, around them, alive. It was almost as if the mystical melody of the etwahl could stiill reach them despite the mists that surrounded the restless. Kayn merely watched as much as Rhaast did, lips stretched into a quiet smirk, pleased. The rumors of the instrument were true, or perhaps pale compared to the magic that unfolded before them. _If it can manipulate the souls of the dead, imagine what it could do to you_ , Rhaast mocked, an edge in his voice did not hide the lingering cruelty. "Foolish", Kayn sneered confidently as his fist twirled the blade and slowly started walking toward the concentration of souls. His human hand rose, palm up into the heavens as the shadows coalesced around them, like a torrent of wispy ink that dragged the glowing blue souls into it. The peace that had touched the ruins was obliterated as the spirits were absorbed until the shadows and then into Rhaast. The darkin's consciousness shivered disgusted by the feeling rather than pleased. This wasn't the red violence he needed. _KAYN!_He growled, loud enough for even Sona to listen. _STOP, WOMAN!_ "Continue, Maven, this is an act of salvation. She was being given a history lesson by a man of, frankly, a demon. Then again, Sona was the one who accepted the request at all: who was she to speak up on that matter? What a joke. Her hands continued, fingers individually plucking strings and simulating that of another instrument in this two-handed ensemble. It sounded like a harmony, a guitar of sorts. In all honesty, her way of utilizing magic could be used on _any_ song she so desired. She could pull out the most destructive piece in a piano and everything else on the opposite end of her spectrum. Her magic didn't judge, she did. And here, her piece was: a violin, a drum, and a guitar-- Creating a strange melody via string, a heartbeat by drum, and a connecting strum from a guitar. Though, her music was one thing. Magic was another: what was he planning to do? > [{quoted}](name=All Life Ends,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Z7KB2kPB,comment-id=000d0002000000010000000000000000,timestamp=2019-05-31T06:27:46.638+0000) > > ((Ah, Sona's taunt in action.)) > Sona couldn't help but let out a silent laugh as a wave of Lamb's melody pierced right through the Maven's "masterpiece", cutting her song short. It seemed like the Kindred had their own expectations, which was a reminder to Sona's own. she wasn't sure how to feel about it, but she was going to have to comply either way. Very well then. She decided to keep the fast rhythm. High beats per minute meant a faster rhythm, and a bit more upbeatness in her room. She didn't want to go with too gentle a melody, so she went with something catchy-- A sequence of notes that didn't quite loop the way a normal listener would expect. It went through the whole range of pitches but never going down and up an octave. It kind of sounded like the piano one would hear in a swing jazz piece.

The way in which the instrument's melody reverberated against the shapes of the ruins, against the darkness of the starless night. The strong emotions of the dead still lingered in the mud and mixed with the mist, dark and thick with anguish, even the natural spirits of Ionia had been disturbed by the atrocities committed upon that coast. "Good," he grinned as he saw them, the glowing spheres in the darkness agitated by Sona's melody. And so Rhaast's eyes widened, understanding. Those fallen spirits, the souls of the furious dead irradiated delicious energy. They were like small morsels. But that wasn't the red vital energy of the strong. No, it was the ethereal blue energy similar to the lingering shadows mystics left when slain. *_Kayn! You!_* "Hush, Rhaast. Watch and learn."

A message is sent to the Kinkou, the trembling hands of one of the youngest acolytes. Words cannot describe what he has seen, but the young ninja is prepared enough to deliver the parchment to the Eye of Twilight. > Master Shen, > I'm intrigued by the blood-stained past you share with Zed. > > I look forward hearing your story. A student must know what lurks within their teacher after all. > Tell me, will you kindly accept my request, or is it necessary to pay the price in young Kinkou blood? > I don't mind either way. > > Meet me under the next full moon in the ruins of the Epool River. Now, really, the problem was the looming factor of the occupations, but she decided to treat the audience as it is; people looking for a new music to guide them for the betterment of the future...Or something like that. Sona wasn't one to judge on the basis of her people. She noted the boredom of the wolf-portion of the Kindred, quick to spring up any musical pieces she could perform. She decided on something like that of a drone and a hum, her fingers rubbing across the vibrating strings. It was similar to a singular throb of a heart being slowed into a note. Her other hand softly pressed on the strings, releasing a harp-like sound that shadowed the droning and low humming. "So that's your answer..." The boy's eyes remained sharp but his grip around the scythe was firm. Nothing in his mien revealed the plan to attack her and seek her blood. Not tonight, not yet. "Do you understand the meaning of these ruins? This was all that was left of the one tranquil village at the Epool's coast. This is where the Noxians disembarked ten years ago." A hand rose, a claw covered in that strange metal carapace, its humanity evidently lost. "I wonder if your melody will soothe the unfettered spirits, but who would blame them for hating the weak." And so Rhaast understood. The anger, the rage of the victims of the war still lingered sweetly upon the darkened mud. Even if the blood had been absorbed long ago, he could still feast on those furious wraiths. "I should thank you for stirring them, Maven." The boy's lips stretched in a mirthless smile. _I despise this music. You're underestimating the power of that artifact, Kayn!_

Yet he clutched the scythe, leaping into the night sky, a crescent blow falling into the group of guards. Aiming to split as many as he could in half. _The night beckons while you dream A life never lives in peace_ The man, clearly Noxian, screamed, his voice cutting through the silence of the village and the circle of guards surrounding him at a distance. His weapon oozed an ominous aura, his features showed a hint of madness. Her hand gripped her blade. She'd stayed in this village, trying to rebuild a life away from conflict and destruction, a life filled with peace. But peace, it seemed, was still beyond her, even here. She knew if she took up her blade again as she did now, there would be little she could do to turn back down that path. A bird that spreads its wings rarely returns long to the nest... _As you stand upon the edge Woven by a single thread_ He jumped into the night, crying in anger, perhaps anguish. She needed to act. If she didn't, more lives would be lost, and this time, she'd have missed her chance to save them. Her heart pounded, her gaze flitting to the crumpled bodies and pools of red lining the small town center. She did not want to fight, but... _And fate may fall down upon you While the devil is knocking Right at your door_ Those who did not fight would fall. And she would not fall. She couldn't. The guards began to fall back, to raise their spears in defiance, only to be stunned by a shock of white hair shooting ahead, gravel kicking into the air from feet hurling a single form ahead into the blow. Her blade pulsed with emerald light as she raised it up between her and the falling boy. _So all you restless Each night you hear the drums of war Awaken, awaken The voice begins to call you while you hunger A taste of destiny you're searching for Awaken, awaken The fight is at your door, take up the cause_ A battle cry ripped through the night as a pulse of energy erupted from her and the blade, enough power thundering forth to knock the airborne boy back and away from the group of guards, even enough to stun him for a time. As the dust cleared, the guards would spy Riven standing defiantly, blade shard crackling, eyes staring fiercely back at this attacker that would so carelessly throw away the lives of these people without care for what he took. "Go." Her voice was terse, stern and controlled. "Tend to the wounded. I will deal with him." What little defiance to her words the men might have had was staunched as she turned to glance at their captain. "Please." Reluctantly, the captain would nod, and the men quickly retreated to do as they were told. They would leave this fight in her hands. Riven would then turn to regard the dark-clad assailant. "Whoever you are, I give you one chance to leave this place. If you don't, then I will protect this village with all that I am." Even if that meant spilling blood again, she wouldn't let more strife befall this town, her home.

If you don't, then I will protect this village with all that I am." Even if that meant spilling blood again, she wouldn't let more strife befall this town, her home. The previous movements had been ominously graceful. Quick and silent cleaves, horizontal, as if he had reaped wheat instead of lives. The voices ceased after the grim thuds of bodies on the earth moist with their blood. _*A drop of carnage in the ocean of my thirst*_ The darkin's voice was cruelly pleased, but in Kayn's mind it meant nothing, it was just another thought diluted. And now the very night and shadows had frozen, slow like mercury, all stopped and concentrated in that very moment. The burst of green energy fresh like a meadow that engulfed him, split as it met the scythe's head, and surround him, energy crackling against his body, strangely painful against the corrupted flesh that formed his arm. The blast sent him backwards, flipping in the air to land, crouching at the base of the structure that formed a fountain, a memorial stone that had marked the end of the Noxian advance in that village years ago. _*There she is, the warrior of your dreams. The Poster Child of Noxus, the lie you were offered, the promise to live, fight and die for the Empire.*_ There was a cruel form of contempt in the darkin's words, he had seen it all, he had tasted it all. Each one of those memories Kayn thought buried, lost to the darkness of irrelevance. And then, the heinous voice of the darkin was heard, the abrasive words allowed to be heard to all around them. It was a disembodied sound, jarring and deep, inhuman, ancient. _*The woman of the Runic Blade. Feed her soul to me! The Sword of the Noxian Empire must have been tempered with blood! I want all of it, her victims, the massacre, the violence, each one of her crimes. Delicious!*_ "That blade embodied the pride of a nation..., and there it is, broken yet defiant before us." The confusion had shifted, the tormented remembrance swallowed, perhaps by Rhaast as their attention focus changed. "No mercy, right, Noxian?" his chin lifted, a strange mixture of that silken arrogance that teetered between cold logic and insanity. Kayn slowly rose to his feet, the upper part of his tunic tattered, but the clothes were clearly Ionian, dark silk and leather, probably a ninja. _*Destroy her, harvest her life.

Though his expression changed, dangerously surprised as he felt the voice echo in his mind as her lips remained shut. **_Her mind can reach us even against your will, Kayn. His face exposed to the dim moonlight, human, sharp, one yellow eye...and another covered by a thick metallic taint. The red eye of a demon or a monster. "Your courage is a rare blessing, Maven of the Strings." Regardless of his words, he didn't turn, instead, he looked at the icy moon above them, the irregular shapes of the ruins adorning the eerie landscape. "Tell me. What do your senses reveal about these ruins? Can you hear the anguish of the dead and play a requiem for them?" **_What is this nonsense?_** Rhaast's voice sounded more confused than angered. Somehow, this time he couldn't read Kayn's mind.

Kayn stood alone in the middle of a pitiful battlefield. It didn't take long for the village guard to act, and they were not so ill-prepared as the civilians. They had faced the horrors of the war already, and were no strangers to watching their environment. Luckily, Kayn had not managed to kill more than a small handful of the villagers before the guard was already handling the situation. They dared not attack him head on, but instead, acted to defend themselves and those around them from his assaults. Of course, trained as they were, they wouldn't be able to hold long against the power of a Darkin weapon. Riven had just sat down and started to enjoy a homecooked meal when the screams began. She stood immediately, looking back and forth to her adoptive family, and to the sounds beyond. Her eyes betrayed worry, hesitation. Did she stay to protect them, or did she go to fight the invaders herself? Softly, she felt the hands of Asa and Shava Konte take hold of her clenched fist, and they smiled. "Go, Dyeda. We have survived one war, we shall survive again. But they need you, now." Riven placed her free hand on top of theirs for a moment before nodding, and turning to head to the door. She paused once more, again, hesitating as her hand hovered over the blade's handle that had been placed near the door, just in case, she had thought, but never intended to use it again. Every moment she waited, more strife would come to these people. Though reluctant, she grasped the weapon, and bolted out the door, heading into the sounds of death. She arrived to a few dead bodies, her heart sinking and twisting at the sight. Just a few days ago she had helped one of them build a small paddock for their livestock. Her guilt, however, turned to anger as she spied the guards surrounding a dark figure with an enormous weapon of some kind. She was not responsible for these deaths. Their blood was not on her hands, nor on her blade. The guards took notice of her, and though they were still reluctant to accept her, they understood her help would be needed here, whether they liked it or not...

The moon had an unsettling icy glow that night, even if Spring already drifted down the colorful Ionian landscape. Kayn stood alone, surrounded by the broken shapes of the village. They were just as he remembered them yet a shadow of what they once were. Burnt and ravaged by the Noxian army, ash now mixed with dust and mold. It had been almost as if the natural spirits of Ionia had embraced the memory of the fallen, gently returning that memory to the earth. They would never mend the Noxian scar. The corpses and their bones had been quietly swallowed by the mud. Kayn remembered that fetid sludge, the weight of his body exhausted as he refused to fall on his knees. The broken sickle gleaming with blood. _Are those fond or terrified memories? Were you a monster or a scared child_ Kayn snorted elegantly and looked up into the moon. "You know the answer." _Do you want to hear it? _ "It is unnecessary". _I wonder which you hate the most_. "Nonsense." He finally turned back, facing the large ruin of what had once been the market square of the village. No one would ever sell fresh fish or rich fruits in there ever again. Zed's Order had purged the Noxian invaders a few days after the attack. The Ionian land had been stained again, and again, and again... _Still, you summon this woman to a battlefield and you don't intend to kill her._ "I don't?" Kayn grinned into his reply, but no other word or thought was offered to the darkin. The breeze was gentle despite the unsettling atmosphere of the ruins, the long braid swayed against his back, the scythe's toe planted in the mud.
: The Silent String Maven (Ask Sona)
A message is delivered to the residence in Ionia, the hands of a shaky messenger offer a scroll crumpled with fear. The young man obeys the order, simply delivering the parchment and refusing to give any additional information, almost as if his life depended on it. Yet a few words escape his jittering lips. _Shadow. Scythe. Assassin. Monster._ Yet the letter has a strangely civil tone, almost polite and graceful. The Ionian characters are clean and precise and could be easily confused for fine calligraphy, shameless to display the arrogance. > Maven. > > I have heard a lot about you. > Perhaps more than what you would have liked me to. > No matter. I kindly invite you to meet me in the ruins at the Epool River's coast. A village defiled by the Noxian Empire ten years ago. The unsettled souls of the dead would appreciate your _talent._ Let us talk under the next full moon. > Refuse, and it will be me the one visiting you. And trust me, I despise houses and their noisy servants. It would be a pity I'd have to force them into a silence matching yours. > K.-

// gief me that epic The village was progressively becoming more and more quiet, just as the lights in the cottages dimmed. Darkness fell with the gentle color of the night. But there was a shadow obscuring the peaceful landscape. The ninja stood alone in the heart of the village. _Well, we're here._ The boy's claw tightened around the scythe's snath, the blackened flesh incapable of transpiring any human feeling. _Is there doubt in your grip?_ "I'm choosing a target." A true assassin kills to save many. Zed's words still haunted him like invisible bindings around his wrist. _Do it, Kayn. I'm thirsty._ The voice kept spurring him, gnawing at his mind with vicious teeth. his world had melted into darkness. Until there was a voice, terrified. A middle-aged man stood before Kayn, his face pale with fear. He didn't see a ninja, an acolyte of the shadow but instead a monstrosity. and his fear was rewarded as blood spilled in all directions, the boy's cheek was stained with fresh crimson. _Yes, yes! Let blood call forth your next challenge!_ The man was the first one, followed by another lonely soul hurrying to return home. Screams soon spread across the village, chaos and confusion as shadows became enemies of life. Soon, it all stopped. Kayn stood alone in the middle of a pitiful battlefield.

// You know, I've been searching for a challenge, and I sense your stagnant soul aches for a fight. Not killin any villager yet tho :d -------------------- The fair farmland of Ionia, so rich and green, the perfect incarnation of all Noxus could ever dream of. The hungry hands of the starving empire, decadents in its conquest, eager to feed on the promising lands of Ionia. It was the embodiment of misery, the empire had become a starving beast, and he had been an instrument of that purpose. But at the same time, it had managed to evoke the image of great heroes. Kayn would never forget the rumors of the poster child, the female warrior who had risen among their ranks. _How pitiful. You admired her_ "I only seek a challenge, perhaps one of the few worthy blades Noxus could ever offer." _When you need more than two words..., then, I'm right._ "Shut up, I don't need to explain myself." _You already did_ Kayn's claw tightened around the scythe's snath as he descended from the hill overlooking the fields. The last farmers were retreating, leaving their land plowed to continue at dawn. _How you'll find her? She'll probably ignore you._ "For a beast of millennia, you know little. Slaughter the villagers until she shows up." The scythe was rested against his shoulderplate with a loud clank. _So you're learning. Bloodshed is always the answer_.

Like a chorus whispering his name, they announced the arrival of Zed's most brilliant student. Sometimes it was hard to swallow; how taming the shadows had cost him so much yet it was so easy for the acolyte, almost natural. It might even have made the Master of Shadows jealous, if he didn't know that this was the result of his teachings. Kayn addressed him with the respect he always displayed, but also with a certain shade of confidence only reserved for him. He was the second in command. He was the chosen. He was special and he knew it, and it showed in the way he treated Zed, but specially, in how he treated the other acolytes. Zed looked at him from an unusual spot almost hidden behind a column. From there, the stain in the wooden floor was practically unnoticeable under the shade. "Very well", he replied to Kayn's words, sounding pleased but also a bit distant. It was just a step in a bigger scheme, a square in a long planned schedule. The Master's gaze was lost once more at some point, far away, beyond that room. "What do you have planner for they trial?"

Kayn knew he couldn't underestimate his master's intuition. It was only a matter of time until his Master understood the veiled strategy, yet his only opportunity was to delay that realization with utmost respect and wit. Kayn mentally grinned even if his face dangerously calm and unreadable. "The best trial I can offer them, Master." Rhaast's eye opened, the red glow bathing the darkness, conquering it like an ominous promise. "The opportunity that haunts every acolyte's dreams." Kayn looked up, the soft voice malevolently devoid of emotion. "The opportunity to face me in combat". Duels between assassins were different, often resembling a dance of shadows. "I will honor your teachings by being generous, for they only need to land a single strike on me to succeed."

"I refuse to believe someone would be so foolish to travel from far just to encounter death in the forbidden lands of this Monastery." Rhaast was twirled and clicked against his shoulderplate. The darkin's eye had narrowed, displeased by Kayn's calm, even sharing the boredom. The eye narrowed, "I give you my word, I won't hurt you girl. But make it quick." _Is that true?_ 'Why shouldn't?' The tides whispered behind him as the long braid billowed. Even after all those years, the scent of the sea left a strange metallic taste in his tongue. Blood. It would always remind him of that day. _Syndra hadn't been around Epool in a very long while. Aquatic magic was always so strange, it waxed and waned just as the natural thing, pushing and pulling at everything around it in a struggle of domination. How amusing that Kayn, the student of which she could feel being pulled in several directions, managed to find a place so appropriately designed for a secret meeting._ _The Sovereign had been walking along the shoreline for quite some time, having placed her fortress somewhere away from immediate prying eyes of the Wuju temple. The brisk water lapped across her feet as she looked out into the distance, eyeing some of the mainland as the waves crashed across the rocks nearby. Frustratingly, she realized she hadn't set any particular time for the boy to arrive, as it could be hours before anyone showed up._ _To her delight, it would appear that Kayn was relatively punctual, and after striding alongside the sand for a few hours she was able to sense his unique mana arriving nearby. The rancid stench of his current 'teacher' was nowhere to be found, either he'd managed to leave undetected or the disgraced ninja figured a way to mask his imprint. Regardless, the boy was here, and the sovereign followed the shore to see him standing idly by._ _A gentle wave, Syndra signalling to him that she was in fact here._

The children of the Epool, the children of Noxus, the villagers of Ionia. All sewn together into an abomination of flesh and broken weapons. It lingered in the corners of his eyes, the moment he glanced away, the shadow would return like a morbid reminder. but his body was still unreadable as he stood, eyes closed the gentle breeze of the coast waving a few strands of raven black hair. He could hear Rhaast's whispers, delighted as he could see the battle relive in Kayn's memories. The darkin could appreciate the detail, the exquisite sound of bone and sinew. Kayn's eyes snapped open the moment he felt that asphyxiating pressure in his body, in his chest, his soul. But then he realized when he saw her. The dark power, thick like velvet radiated from an external presence. A strange black sun obscuring it all as she merely stood across the shoreline. "The dark Sovereign has graced me with her presence", the sneer was soft, confident, his young face corrupted by Rhaast's power concealed the memories haunting his mind. "You can sense it, can't you? These sands, this shore, a grim reminder of Ionia's weakness."
: The Temple of Shadows [Ask Zed]
Kayn was another shadow in the thick darkness of the temple. The Scythe clutched in hi hand had become a dreaded yet daily sight. All after the day when he had returned from the mission in Vindor. This time he had requested an audience with the Master of Shadows, it wasn't a summoning, this was his will. He entered the chamber, his gaze firm yet glowing with that malevolence so similar to Rhaast's. The audience chamber, that same austere hall adorned with a single statue and scrolls. Yet, the center had become the darkened stain on the wooden floor. The same one where Master Kusho had fallen years ago. Zed had made that one his lair. Perhaps as a punishment? Perhaps because his master still taught him from the shackles of death? Kayn stopped and respectfully bowed, the long tip of his braid caressing inches from the floor as he bent. "The acolytes of the higher echelon are ready for their test before your judgment, Master. The Shadows are strong in them, I have personally trained them."

The border between the world of the living and the Spirit Realm was intrinsically thin in that area of the province. The Leader of the Kinkou would always be the glowing eye of the stars, the lonely wanderer between the worlds. That energy would flow, stretch and shape, causing strange waves of interference almost disabling any hextech device. Even foreign mages would find themselves disoriented and lost, that forest was a hollow where even compasses would aimlessly spin. Hey there! I understand your point and the fact people may be discouraged by the idea of creating a subsection. I like the idea of giving three options and then two. Sounds like a ballotage system. To be honest, I was under the impression removing the compendium was inevitable. So before we see people leaving/quitting because of it, we could try the subforum idea. The question is, how about giver the subforum a 'test drive? If people feel the split has caused more damage than mending, it can be merged again. Y'know, like going to stages. It can also provide an insight for the players who would like to see a free for all RP area. Furthermore, having a free for all rp could mean we don't even need to create and level a smurf to RP a certain character. I mean, people can still do it if they want to manage multiple accounts for their multiple characters.

Hey! Why can't a free space Sub-boards happen? It would allow people to play any character they want, even with more flexible rules, and at the same time, allow others to maintain a storyline. In that way we would avoid situations where player X can't interact with player Y because player Y has decided they will only interact with W's Jinx and only W's Jinx. Player X will probably feel bad. But if there's a free for all RP subforum and X agrees something with Y and Rp there without interfering with whatever other story Y has going on. As the forum is a shared space, the best is to find a way where all sorts of players feel comfortable. Those who would like the Compendium gone and those who don't. I think the resources would allow it? A bord inside this board? It would even keep it cleaner {{summoner:32}}

I honestly don't think opening a free for all space will bring new faces. And in the case it brought one or two using already taken champions, do you think those one or two would bring a whole new life to the boards? It's true, the boards aren't sizzling with activity, but I don't feel the compendium is a problem. I've tried inviting players here, and most turned me down for several reasons. 1) Intimidated and being judged. They feel free in tumblr, here, they feel watched. 2) PG-13 board rules. 3) Fear their headcanons and interpretations will be mocked I once was part of a forum (different fandom though) which had about 30 active players and a group of 4 moderators checking their activity. It looked like a paradise, but it easily turned into a chore when players started doing the min effort needed to remain in the community. In the end, it all falls in the players' hands and the interest in their stories. If you wanted to change something, I'd suggest less tolerance with the strike system. Make it two, maybe.{{summoner:4}} edit: the lack of a Compendium will cause pure chaos and there will no longer be a place for "canon" rp. It'll just be a random subforum for free RP where everyone can play whatever they want. Perhaps you'd like a subforum for "free rp" where there's no compendium?

The poor unfortunately 'messengers' had little choice but to obey the imperious orders of the voluptuous sorceress and the young master of shadows. Kayn's gaze rose from the scroll. The Dark Sovereign had accepted. Good. He was pleased. "Very well, so be it". He turned to the scythe which had been quietly resting against the wall. The eye opened, white slit pupil contracted as if awakening. What is it, Kayn? Are you attracted to this woman's vast, homongous, huge 'personality'? The assassin stared back at Rhaast through heavy-lidded eyes, visibly unimpressed after almost understanding (or maybe not) the meaning behind his words. "Her power is noticeable. The Elders fear her. And Master Zed seems strangely... concerned about her position in this game he is playing. Ionia has been infested by weakness and she is clearly a way to see who are weak and who are not." His fist clenched around the hilt and gracefully swung the scythe, the head soon rested on his armoured shoulder. "I want to see her eyes as the memory of the war surrounds us." Just as the fifth day of that moon passed, Kayn was there, standing alone by the shore. The tides whispered behind him as the long braid billowed. Even after all those years, the scent of the sea left a strange metallic taste in his tongue. Blood. It would always remind him of that day.

Unfeeling, apathetic despite Rhaast's poignant will attempting to spur him into violence. This was just another test of his iron will. > > "A _Piltover girl_, huh? How amusing. Resourceful and inventive..., perhaps I should even consider seeing what _you_ will attempt." Kayn lifted his chin arrogantly, already savoring the challenge. "You would be surprised what you'd do to survive. May your noble blood surprise me!" Without another word, the Scythe was swung at the girl, a horizontal line aimed to cleave her body in half. *Lucette jumped into action. She ducked and rolled on the ground She pressed A button on the grip of the cane, as she did, the bottom of the cane opened to show it was hollow and metal inside, and a small trigger flipped loose. she pointed the end at Kayn and pulled the trigger, aiming at his shoulder. After she shot, she got up quickly and started running, keeping a hand on one of her bags on her belt.* (Basically imagine a cane outfitted to also be a gun. not a great one, but it helps in defense and is disguised.)

Her birds would start flying up high into the sky and start to circle around.* > > *Much as she wanted to charge away, she wasn't strong enough to go against him if he caught up to her. She had to get out of here and away from him. Quietly. While he was distracted she was slowly making her way away from him, the birds in the sky would then start flying away in her general direction. But not directly in the direction she was.* > > *When she thought she was far enough away and he lost her, she hid again in some bushes and waited. After a bit, Gear and Gizmo in the sky came back and dropped into her lap. They were safe. She didn't feel safe moving further until she knew he was gone.* The flapping of wings alerted him, Kayn's fists tightened around the snath, alert. How could she dare thing she could remotely outsmart him? Magic had a distintictive scent, almost like a taste his senses had learned to recognize. This was completely different. Piltover's technology was too different to the living pulse coursing across Ionia. _She escaped_ "She didn't" _Where is she then?_ "Those birds flying away must have been running away from her, obviously. Her whole presence is a disturbance in the harmony of the forest. Isn't it obvious, Rhaast?" _We are far more disturbing to the puny beasts of this forest. They fled from you._ Kayn lowered his gaze for a moment. Being reminded of the darkin scar creeping up his body was always a strange stab. "Where did you go, little invader?" He turned back, disappearing into the shifting darkness of a tree. Close..., close, somewhere close. Trespassers would be interrogated, but she looked more like an adventurer in the search of thrill than a real threat.

The message is pinned to the corpse of a citizen in the outskirts of the capital. The corpse has been withered from the inside as if it's life energy had been reaped. The stench of a dark, alien magic surrounds it, obvious to those with keen senses. News spread across the city. The days before the Harrowing were always the worst. > So the Night Huntress they say? > > I'll give you a week to 'hunt' me in this city before I decide to hunt you instead. > > Will you prove a worthy challenge? > > - The Shadow Reaper.
: Sovereignty Reigns [Ask Syndra]
Another letter is delivered in the trembling hands of a villager (he has been obviously threatened) > Syndra. > > > Despite the interruption, there is so much more to be said and done. > Master Zed has grown cautious and wary with time. His desire to protect Ionia has driven him to utilize forbidden techniques and seek dangerous allies. There's a very thin line between "corrupted", "dangerous" and "powerful". ~~Though I sense there is where our perspectives differ...~~ > > We must meet again. In different circumstances. > > Have you ever heard of the ruins at the Epool's coast? > > > -Kayn.
: Hello. Just letting people know what's been going on with me lately. If you care, feel free to keep reading. If not, then by all means go off to do better things. I just wanted to apologize for being away for so long. In the past three weeks, my family has had to deal with two losses only five days apart from each other, and it's been pretty hard to handle. I've just been spending a lot of time healing with my loved ones, and slowly getting back to some semblance of normalcy. I'm sorry for keeping those of you who I got stories going with waiting for so long. I'll try to get back to things as soon as I'm able, so please bear with me until then. Thanks for your patience. I really appreciate it.

'It's so fast!'. Kayn's thoughts snarled. The damned creature could move across the pale gloom pierced by daylight. It didn't need shadows to turn invisible before his eyes, it was a superior form of stealth, completely unknown, it deceived his senses like the most cunning magic. The assassin glared at the empty space before him. Even if his eyes were seemingly focused in the vacant area, his senses were somewhere else. Alert, sharp, eager to perceive the mysterious predator. "I will be the one making your strength mine. Face me, as I wield Rhaast, the Blade of Millennia!" *_Behind you!_* Kayn could barely glance over his corrupted shoulder as a few of those spikes dissolved against the carapace covering his arm like an armor. The haze coalesced, blinding him. It was a cold and unpleasant texture, like a slimy acid. Without a second thought, he dashed forward into the tree before them, attempting to shadow step into the solid surface. If he succeeded before the hunter cleaved him in half, the scythe-like appendixes would slash through the translucent shadowy texture which was now his body. Only the tip of his braid would probably suffer.

: Is Dark Star Jarvan IV tied to Odyssey Emperor Jarvan IV?
It is a possible future. A result of the "what if" scenario. I mean, if Kayn wants to become the Emperor, he needs to get rid of the previous one. Rhaast seeks the destruction of the universe, which also implies Jarvan's (and everyone else's) deaths. Given DarkStar Jarvan's past, he might very well die betrayed.

: Why I think General DuCouteau is alive and will come soon
Those chains look too massive for a humanoid creature. Feels more like a creature. And yes, the color totally inspires Demacia. Assuming it is petricite, then feels like a magic entity locked away. I strongly feel Du Couteau is dead. Have you read Cassiopeia's and LeBlanc's old judgments? It was almost literally hinted he the Black Rose was behind it. It also feels, as it was mentioned before, General Du Couteau (I don't know if they'll call him Marcus anymore) is a catalyst for Katarina, a purpose for Talon. Someone meant to be in the plot but never a real champion. I'd love to see the General though! And the Narrative Team has been poking around with lore updates in the horizon, Talon, Sona, Soraka and Vladimir's specifically. Also, we know it'll be linked to a new champion or a completely standalone thing. I sort of expect a comic.
