It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that I will have to give up Ryze and situate real life for a while. I hope that one day I can return and reclaim my favorite Rune Mage. I apologize for all inconveniences my disappearance may have caused and likely will cause.

Ryze will be going Away for a while. I estimate I should be able to post again no later than 2 weeks from now but I can not be sure of that. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for those who are in the middle of RPs with me.
: Searching For Runes (Ask Ryze)
"Ryze." *The voice of his master, Tyrus, filled his ears and prompted him to give his full attention to the master magus who had taken him under his wing. As a youth, still, Ryze was still full of vigor and ambition. It was his sincerest wish to become as great of a sorcerer as his master, whom had accepted him as his apprentice. The plan was to groom Ryze into a formidable and stalwart guardian of arcane secrets, much in the same way that he, Tyrus, himself was. Initially, the young man had been insatiably curious about the scroll that never seemed to leave Tyrus's side, it was quickly identified as an object that Ryze was forbidden from seeking. They left it at that.* "Yes, Master Tyrus?" *His voice was not nearly as smooth, nor as palatable. It was coarse and deep, in opposition to his master's more gentle and sage voice. They had made camp as their current mission had taken them to the very edge of the Kingdom of Demacia, they were seeking a mysterious artifact that was said to be causing turmoil amid a local villa. This would be the first of many cases they would involve themselves in, it would prove to be quite a daunting task. Tyrus spoke again, this time Ryze could detect the concern in his tone.* "I know you are eager to show your competence, and to prove your mettle as a practitioner of magic, but we very likely will face something beyond your comprehension. Promise not to act on impulse, and do not be discouraged. As long as you remain by my side you will have nothing to fear. *The words carried an unfathomable compassion within them, Tyrus truly did care about his young ward's well-being. They were companions, he the mentor and Ryze the pupil. Tyrus had a responsibility to watch over and protect his protege.* -------- *His eyes fluttered open as he stirred from his dormancy, brought about by the intense heat and humidity that enveloped him. Ryze had not intended to dream let alone immerse himself in nostalgic visions of the past. He was in some manner of forest or jungle, the surrounding foliage and canopies did nothing to answer the question of his precise location. The sounds of wildlife roared into his ears, reminding him that his presence was neither natural nor condoned. He exhaled, letting the breath leave his mouth in a long rush to clear out his lungs, then he took in a deep inhalation to replace what had been expelled. After a few minutes of this bodily ritual, and once he was fully satisfied with the endeavor, he pushed himself up to his feet and resumed his trek through the vegetation as he approached his destination....*
: > [{quoted}](name=AsktheRuneMage,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=aL2qL0TH,comment-id=002500000000,timestamp=2018-07-19T19:56:53.628+0000) > > *Almost as if carried by the wind, invisible and mass-less, he found himself suddenly upon a terrace of an unfamiliar terrace. But that didn't matter to this archmage. What mattered was that he had made it to where he sensed the source of immense arcane power. This was where he would come face to face with the feared and dreaded sorceress who answered to the name...* "Syndra." *Ryze was a far-too-long-lived magus in his own right, and though he did not boast the raw power that Syndra was said to possess he made up for it with his seemingly endless well of knowledge and with his centuries of experience with regards to all things magical.* > > *Looking about, his eyes nigh-devoid of visible features (the truth was that his iris and pupil were so faded that they blended in with his sclera), he wasn't sure where he currently was. He turned his gaze outward, to the sky that surrounded the temple, but that did nothing to ward off his uncertainty. Turning back to the door before him, which was closed but featured large panes of glass that allowed him to peer into the chamber beyond, he squinted in an attempt to discern the features of the room so that he could at least have a base from which to work. The next logical step, after examining the room, was to try the door and determine whether or not it was locked. He didn't know how well Syndra maintained her own lair, or whether or not she cared about sealing all possible portals to the outside, let alone doors and windows that exited to structural features such as the one he found himself upon.* > > *He would avoid using magic if at all possible, as the mistress of the fortress may consider such a thing an act of hostility.* _Syndra opened the door. Despite his rather quiet entrance, the sudden influx of mana billowing out of the air around her fortress was akin to a whale gently laying upon her doormat. She choked slightly, before shaking her head and adjusting her concentration of magic to not drown herself in such a pure form of arcanus. The imprints of the world runes had made their marks upon him, the sovereign well aware of who it was the instant he teleported there._ _As it were, there was little point in keeping him out. The longer he stayed the more time she'd have to put up with the whole thing. She opened the door to look down upon the mage with a glaring eye. She was floating of course. She had no interest in being looked down upon and as such made an effort to stay above the mage in question. She assumed he wouldn't mind. It was her abode after all._ "You're quick." _She spoke. Teleportation magic was something she was... unfamiliar with. Curious._

In fact, he had assumed he would be able to explore the Dark Sovereign's lair for a while before encountering her in one of the undoubtedly stretching corridors. Or perhaps he would happen upon her in one of the numerous rooms, either lounging luxuriously or resting as a hedonist would.* *But that wasn't what happened. Instead, apparently, she found him just as soon as he had materialized himself upon the balcony. The door opened to reveal her in all her glory, floating quite a few inches off the ground and glaring at him as if he had just told her an offensive joke. Which he wouldn't. He could, but he wouldn't.* "......speed is very relative. So you must be the one they call Syndra. Obviously, you would be the sole inhabitant of this castle in the sky."

From his bio and his short story, I had assumed that he was anti-social simply so that he wouldn't run the risk of anyone trying to get his scroll, but apparently he's actively seeking someone to succeed him in his task of sealing/moving/safeguarding the World Rune fragments(?). Also, he likes to talk in riddles and snarks at those he views as less learned/intellectual than himself. Not really out of arrogance, but because he's not used to dealing with those who aren't as bookish as himself.

As Ryze is casting his bolt Vinea is countering with one of her own. The power of the rune alongside her own amplifies the blast immensely. A shockwave would send Ryze flying back unless he braces himself in time. As the dust and pages clear Vinea can be seen standing amidst the rubble her throne. On either side of her sit pools of liquid stone, she extends her hands and two heavy swords rise from the mire. Magic pulses through the blades like veins towards a heart. **"This rune will give me power beyond your comprehension, I will be...perfect"** Her voice thrums with power and it's clear that the rune is speaking more than she is.
> [{quoted}](name=CALEB THEBADDEST,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Abpg1GQZ,comment-id=000c0000000200000000,timestamp=2018-07-27T00:21:50.103+0000) > > Vinea *He had expected retaliation, but there was nothing that could stop the chain events that had gone into action. Ryze was very intelligent, cunning and always looking for ways to get at anyone who stood in his path. But he wasn't perfect. As much as he was well-versed in the arcane, he just wasn't a match for the sort of power that one in possession of a World Rune could produce. He wasn't able to brace himself, having just exerted himself significantly to pull off his gambit, and found himself being hurled through the air by the witch's magical force. Fortunately, he was able to shift his weight to land on one knee without suffering much damage but he looked up in time to see that not only had his set-up worked but that the sorceress was preparing another attack - this one with a pair of blades that appeared primed to behead him if he weren't careful. The worlds she exclaimed were spoken with an echo of power backing them, which he recognized from....an old failure.* "Yes. It will. It can give you all of the power you could ever want, but at what cost? What is the worth of being enslaved to something that can destroy you just as easily?! Are you really so weak-minded that you would believe such a clear deception?!" *The markings that spread across his discolored flesh glowed with considerable arcane power, his eyes also became bathed in the same bright blue illumination, as he drew upon as much of his magical might as he possibly could. He was going to put everything he had into the next maneuver, or he would die trying. Focusing, he summoned a circle of runes around Vinea which contracted around her and bound her into a magical prison of force that she couldn't escape from. The Rune Mage uttered a brief incantation, which would then cause debris from nearby to fly towards and form a dome around the Rune Prison containing her. Quickly, it layered upon itself, threatening to seal her away.* *At the very least, he would take this particular World Rune out of play by sealing it away along with its host.*

: Searching For Runes (Ask Ryze)
*Runeterra.* *Not many could claim to have seen all of its beauty and splendor. But then again, not many could claim to have seen its worst horrors either. Yet he had seen it all. Ryze had more stories of his travels than he had friends, though that was not much of a claim due to the fact that he had almost no actual allies. He didn't have the luxury of being able to trust others. He hadn't truly trusted anyone in centuries. Not since his master, Tyrus, perished. He had also met quite a number of intriguing characters, yet he had outlived so many that he had given up learning their names and what they did. Some might consider it anti-social. He preferred to think of it as necessary obfuscation.*

He had seen this sort of thing before. Almost being the keyword, as Ryze was very familiar with how to sever the connection. But this one... this Rune Mage was fighter and would not be so easily bested. Standing from her seat Ryze would realize just how large this sorceress is, no shrinking priestess the scars of battle can be seen across her stony frame although they disappear as her heart pulses. It was pure arcane energy. But not just any energy, as he came to realize with widening eyes.* "A World Rune." *He muttered under his breath, shocked and off-guard. That was all that was needed for the sorceress's spikes, which rose up rather swiftly, almost too rapidly, as one managed to pierce through his left leg and halt his movement. Unwittingly, the archmage cried out in pain as he found himself being pulled upward, though not for very long. He was quick to free himself but he was now injured, he resolved to do something that probably wouldn't end well for him.* "TAKE THIS!" *He bellowed, hurling his tome towards her. Once it came into contact with her defense, it would flutter open and myriad of pages would fly out and move around to form a sphere of obstruction through which she wouldn't be able to see. With that in place, Ryze would then focus his own runic energy, conducted through his tattoos, to launch an immense blast of arcane energy at the dome which would be conducted by the pages and then be cast downwards. Ultimately, the sigils would be ruined and the pages would fall harmlessly around Vinea. Ryze, both arms now crackling with arcane energy as his tattoos glowed powerfully, was ready to unleash another runic blast at her.* "The Rune for your life!"

(( I must first preface this by confessing that I have long intended for an audience with the most esteemed Sovereign, but I have a certain system in place for everyone's grumpy Rune Mage with regards to visitations - barring a few key individuals. I have decided that Syndra should become one of these exceptions. Currently I have him visiting the various Shurima champions, one at a time, as he was investigating the.....occurrences that concluded, albeit temporarily, in the Shurima Bloodlines event narrative. But first, a letter! )) *A strange envelope appeared very randomly and spontaneously wherever the Dark Sovereign deigned to place her mail until such time as she felt the need or curiosity to read whatever droll correspondence her fanatical admirers or, worse, her most vehement detractors had sent her. Understandably, there would be many that she would possibly find no need nor desire to dignify or honor with a response, a post of her own to either discourage or tease whomever had written to her in the initial. She was likely a very shrewd and selective woman whose time was far too valuable to waste on any riff-raff from off the street of whatever backwater city or village that dared to permit their pitiable existence. The envelope was strange not because it was particularly out of the ordinary, no; it was strange because it was **exceptionally** out of the ordinary. It was a very light cyan color and bore lengths of cuneiform that she had never seen before, each on the front and back of the envelope - along the top and bottom edge. All in a very strikingly bright violet, and if she were able to sense the arcane she would immediately recognize it as somewhat more advanced magical script. The letter contained within was nothing but supernatural - unless she could see magic she would not likely be able to read the words upon the parchment at all! But, if she were anything other than a novice arcanist, and was so properly attuned to the arcane, the words would read as follows:* > To the Dark Sovereign hailing from Ionia, whose power is claimed to be quite vast, > > If you can read these words, then congratulations! It means that you aren't just some trifling amateur whose arrogance far exceeds her aptitude! > > I've heard that you're quite magically inclined, it's said that yours is a power that knows no limit and has few to no rivals. Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to stick my nose up your ass or anything, it's just what I've heard. > > And that's the point. I've heard about you. About your power. About what you can do and have done. And I'm curious. I'll be along shortly after you receive this post, but not within the next few hours. At least, not until you break the seal of the envelope that will inform me when you've opened it. Magic can be extremely useful, not just for blasting your enemies to oblivion or traveling between the realms; utilities like these are also highly enjoyable. > > But I'm rambling. I'll be seeing you soon, Syndra. I really want to see what you've got, and if you're really worthy of your reputation as a powerful sorceress. > > Inquisitively, > *R Y Z E*

I do not intend for your character to actually die, I even risked having him act OOC in order not to have him trying to murder Dogron, but when World Runes are concerned he isn't going to flinch at the prospect of someone dropping dead while he safeguards a World Rune. However, do let me know if I have misunderstood anything about your character. *Ryze watched as Drogon seemed to react.....unfavorably to the removal of the World Rune, and for only the briefest moment he felt pity for the poor guy. However, the Rune Mage had learned long ago that no sacrifice was too great for the safety and security of Runeterra. The purple-skinned archmage immediately set to work, pulling the scroll from its case on his back and spreading the parchment along the ground between them. He then began to conduct a ritual of sorts, as the World Rune began to throb and pulse in left hand while his right was used to trace a symbol with the index digit onto the surface of the paper - the tracing being identical to that of the World Rune in his other hand. After a time, there was a fluctuation of arcana that caused a brief distortion in the air between the Rune and the scroll, followed immediately by the Rune suddenly vanishing and reappearing where the trace had been performed. The World Rune, which had emanated so much power before, appeared to have gone into a dormant state. Ryze quickly rolled the scroll up and slid it into the case on his back, the archmage looked to Drogon once more to see how he was faring.*

: (sorry for the wait my hard drive decided to crap out and i had to get it replaced) *drogon pondered the words of the rune mage a long time turning them over in his head and weighing the right thing versus the way forward in his life, then shaking his head he stood up straight and nodded his head to the blue skinned mage* "alright you have convinced me, I will give up my "world rune" as you call it to protect the ones i am around" *drogon then opened his arms in an open position for the mage to remove the rune of magic from within his body*

He hated the idea of denying anyone the joy of magic, but the World Runes always corrupted and twisted those who drew upon their power. No exceptions. Ryze believed that even he would be as nothing more than a puppet to their influence. With a stern nod the archmage approached Drogon, raising his left hand and holding it aloft between them. There was no hostility in this gesture, only purpose and determination. This would be a mercy for the poor soul who had neither neither wanted nor requested any of this.* "I promise it won't hurt. Just stand still. It'll be over quickly." *And with that, as magical energy enveloped it, his hand was brought to Drogon's chest where it bypassed the flesh and bone and clutched something within. Taking hold of the something, Ryze gave a tug and began to pull out whatever it was, and just as he promised there was no pain. Instead, it felt like something that had once given him immense warmth had been taken and now a certain coldness cloaked him.* > [{quoted}](name=CALEB THEBADDEST,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Abpg1GQZ,comment-id=000a0000000000010000,timestamp=2018-06-07T13:54:59.234+0000) > > Vinea *It was just as he suspected. There were symbols arranged for her protection. She was like an empress in her throne. Ryze had no love for such people, if she could even be called a person anymore after what she'd done. The archmage, on alert for backlash, was almost caught off-guard when the sharp spikes came at him from below and in front of him. He pushed with all of his physical might to hop quickly back and lean away from the trajectory of the protrusions, however he wasn't fast enough to evade all of them, as one had managed to graze his left arm, just above his wrist. Hissing through his teeth, and scowling, Ryze sent a glare at the witch while shifting all of his weight to one side and dashing to her left. He was planning to circle around, to force her to keep her attention on him. What was he up to? What could he possibly do to her in her own sanctum?* *He just had to try whatever he could. And he knew exactly what to do next. Those symbols needed to go, or he would be waging a battle of attrition that he couldn't possibly win.*

How dare you defame my beautiful garden...I could have simply killed those who raised a hand against me.It would have been simple, Like smashing an insect. I however have made them beautiful, they are in a sense immortal"** At the mention of smashing them like insects the woman makes a noise that could pass for a laugh although it sounds more like glass shattering as it falls. Her eyes moves to both the spell book and the arcane energy crackling at his fingertips. She breathes deeply and her fingers freeze on her instrument. **"You are powerful indeed, perhaps you shall be a worthy sacrifice to me yet"** Her hand moves the smallest amount and a solid wall of crystal rises behind him cutting off any escape. She smiles and it's clear in that moment that there is no love or humanity within her only pain and the desire for conquest.

There was just something about the way she described her brand of horrific and cruel devastation, how she likened it to something of an art form. Gritting his teeth, he did his best to resist the urge to retch at her clearly demented view of the world. She was nothing less than a despicable despot with absolutely no respect for life or the state of the world. She had to be eliminated. Before he could react he heard the sound of something suddenly shifting, crystallizing, behind him and he only briefly looked back to confirm that his only normal means of exit from this chamber was blocked by a wall of the same jade crystal substance that had encapsulated the villagers. He sent a glare at the witch, and it was clear that he held unfettered reproach for her.* "Beautiful? You think all that green is a good thing? Honestly, I got sick of it the first time I laid eyes on it; it's an eyesore!" *He took a moment to scan the chamber, searching for anything he could use to his advantage. If she was anywhere near as competent a sorceress as she looked, she would no doubt have some sort of defensive measure set up in her direct placement, quite likely to ward off potential attacks. Regardless of what he might or might not find, he decided to hurl a bolt of crackling arcane energy at her so as to confirm his suspicions.*

The World Runes were far beyond mortal comprehension, yet he had ways of binding and sealing them away. The mere truth of the matter was that he and his long-dead master were the only ones who had an intimate knowledge of the World Runes, and were the only ones who could safeguard them from the ruinous hands of those would use them for ignoble purposes. Greed. Wrath. Pride. War. As Ryze stared at Drogon, his face contorted into an expression of grim solemnity.* "Drogon.....You need to understand that the World Runes are too dangerous to be left in the hands of those who don't understand them, and even those who do still can't be trusted. Even so, there's a choice you need to make here. I can remove it harmlessly from your body, you can return to whatever sort of life you led before it was bestowed to you, and I can be on my way to hide it away from everyone forever. Or I'll have to kill you and take it by force, which would only cause irreparable damage to everything around us, or might even open a hole in the fabric of reality. He believed it to be unforgivable to speak over another while they were in the middle of their own oration, so he simply stood idly and took the occasional sip from his mug of tea. His eyes appeared to be without any features that could be recognizable as human, but even so it was clear that his gaze was fixed on Soraka's gestures, eventually shifting to her face as she spoke instead of her sympathy and heartache for the struggling mortals. He couldn't have said anything even if he wanted to, there was nothing more to say. He simply nodded in agreement with her, took yet another sip from his rapidly cooling tea, then released a soft sigh as her mood became dour from her pondering over her own mortality, what fate she might one day meet. He let a short silence fall between them, he willed himself to refrain from destroying the calm shared between them. He was a good listener.* *What she said afterward caused him to tense up, his gut wrenched in sheer trepidation at her words. His expression became dark and utterly devoid of softness, his mood immediately twisted on itself and morphed into a form of vehement conviction. Defensive. Reproachful.* "Since you know of them, you must also know that they can't help you. If you even try, then I'll lose yet another friend to my quest...." *He set the mug on the nearby countertop, his left hand fell to his side and patted the tome hanging from a leather strap attached to his belt. A brief glimmer of arcane energy was birthed at the brief contact, though this gesture was meant as a deterrent to the fallen celestial before him whom no doubt bore notions of harnessed the combined power of the World Runes in his possession for her re-acquisition of celestialhood. His eyes were squinted into a cautious but vigilant glare, that of a protector of that which no one should be allowed to toy with.* "I was very careful not to mention them by name, but I suppose I should have expected you, as a former celestial, to be aware of them. I truly didn't expect you to know I was seeking them out. Well, trying to seal them away so that they wouldn't fall into the wrong hands..." However, although he had said he would trust her, he still had some reservations, as his expression growing more grim could attest. She wasn't a bad person, but that didn't mean she couldn't be tempted. She had good intentions, but that wasn't evidence of innocence. She understood enough that he couldn't help but worry. He sincerely hoped that she never came into contact with a World Rune. He gave a burdened exhalation as he slowly shook his head at the knowledge and pondering that now began to swirl about in his mind. But before long he made his own way out of the post office, passing by Olsen as he likely was returning to close up for the day. Ryze said nothing to the postmaster, only giving him an obligatory glance in acknowledgement, as he walked far enough away that his subsequent teleportation wouldn't damage the quaint little hut. Not a shift between realms, as he didn't want to risk being thrown into the next decade, but a surge of magical power that would transport him from this place to another as-of-yet-unknown.* *The next day, Soraka would find a letter from Ryze, as follows:* > Dear Soraka, > > I just want to assure you that I'm fine and am in good shape. Maybe a bit winded, but that's just the nature of my mission. I was able to find some time to write this letter for you, so that you would know that you don't need to worry about me yet. The search continues, and I have to admit that I'm grateful that I have someone I can confide in. A lot is still not certain, especially with regards to our relationship, but I can safely say that we're still friends at least. I hope this letter finds you in good standing. > > Amicably, > Ryze

While she didn't want this mage to freely wander about, if she caught him again trying to hurt more of her people she could just as easily finish the job later, or so she assumed. She hoped he could, at the very least, answer her concerns._ "Alright, sorcerer. You reject my services, fine. However, I will still want your knowledge before you leave.I believe that trading knowledge for freedom is a more than generous deal. Was she able to unravel the secret they hid? Would she figure out that they were not, in fact, actually devoid of irises and pupils but that those features were so faded that they almost appeared gone? This was not anything important, unless Sivir herself held a vested interest in magic and the like, but Ryze wasn't obligated to reveal anything about himself unless that was the price she wished to extract. For the moment, he simply folded his arms across his chest and nodded in response to her reminding him about their deal.* "Yes, I know. You'll allow me to be on my way if I give you whatever knowledge you desire. I'm going to go ahead and assume you want to know more about Chalicar, yes? Perhaps even how it was forged, why it was forged, and what sorts of special abilities it possesses? He wasn't arrogant, however, but even so he was genuinely surprised at the ease with which Drogon managed to shrug him off. Especially given the approach from behind that the archmage had performed, specifically so that he could be as quick and effective as magically possible. But no. Now the tattooed arcanist found himself on the floor, having been unceremoniously deposited in a none-too-flattering position: face in the dirt and rear in the air.* "Dammit." *He muttered indignantly to himself, pushing himself up and to a stand then immediately turning to face Drogon once more with animosity in his featureless eyes.* "Don't you get it?! You're not just dangerous, you're causing all kinds of havoc for the people of this region! And don't get me wrong, I don't love the ignorant masses and their petty ways, but I value this world and that means I have to do right by everyone who lives in it! I know it's not right, but what else would you have me do?! I need to stop you somehow, even if it means killing you, if it would keep the world safe and secured." *His conviction, his sense of duty and purpose, could easily be felt. This wasn't a selfish mage who was only out for himself, but he also wasn't so blinded by strong bonds and relationships that he would allow the needs of the few to trump the needs of the majority. The Rune Mage collected himself after a moment, once again enveloping his free hand - his left hand - with arcane power, clearly prepared to go on the offensive once more.* "I don't want to have to do it, nobody should have the right to decide who should and shouldn't live....But if there's even a fraction of a chance that you've been tainted by a World Rune, then I must fulfill the duty that has fallen to me. I don't expect you to understand, you don't need to understand, but that is the undeniable fact that I have to live with. If you don't want to die, then please let me take the World Rune inside of you, if not for the sake of the world then at least for your own sake!" *He would only wait long enough to confirm whether Drogon would cooperate, and the instant it became clear that he wouldn't, Ryze would suddenly snap into action and unleash one of his most powerful bolts of crackling arcane energy that would strike Drogon in the head for the express purposes of a near-instantaneous kill. The quicker, the better. The less bad he would have to feel for what he would have to do.* > [{quoted}](name=CALEB THEBADDEST,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Abpg1GQZ,comment-id=000900000001,timestamp=2018-04-27T22:34:52.838+0000) > > Face to face at last. *Ryze didn't care for the echoes of his foot falls, quick and unrelenting as he harried himself through the garden. Soon he was jogging through the halls, and he gave himself only the briefest of moments to glance at the architecture and the "renovations" of his surroundings. He sensed magical power all around him, crystalline sources of arcane energy, and he came upon one purposeful path lit by brilliant crystals - it was almost as if he was being led along by whomever or whatever was responsible. He didn't hesitate, even if his instincts screamed at him not to follow, as he had no other choice and no other lead. He quickly ran through the illuminated hall and as he did he heard the gradually heightening sound of music - a single but potent instrument that gave off a resonant sound that almost seemed to try to grip his very soul. But he was stubborn, and it was difficult to compel him. He came into an antechamber where he found some sort of extravagant seat of power set on a dais, an attractive woman in rather regal attire sat with her legs folded beneath. She was plucking the strings of a sitar, a curious instrument, and she seemed to give him the barest amount of acknowledgement as her voice reached out to him. It sounded devoid of emotion. From his place at the entryway to the chamber, he took a ready stance with his spell tome in his right hand and his left hand raised up enveloped by magical energy, ready for a clash of magic if necessary.* "I don't have anything of worth to offer you, but even if I did I wouldn't. After all, if there is an emperor then they would surely revere him more unless she asserted herself higher._ _This one managed to halt the escalation that came from his initial responses. She didn't want to tolerate the ambiguity of his responses. The last response, however, bought her interest. What did he know? What more was there to this one. She turned to face her friend and begged answers in silence. The man simply expressed the safety he felt, giving her a soft glare before returning his eyes to the mage before them._ _Sivir took Chalicar and gripped him tightly, feeling somewhat vulnerable as he seemed to hint at her lineage. He had just come from the capital. Did Azir tell of who wielded the blade? Still yet, there was an emotional trigger. He seemed to know about the related details and that alone was enough for her to look to her men surrounding the mage. After a short stare down, she lifted her free hand and signaled for them to hold their weapons at ease, lowered but still ready to spring back into action if she so much as gave the word. She gave a couple more hand signals, the circle of warriors turning into two walls that kept some distance from him and covered his sides. She moved closer, moving to one side as she ordered the other to move to Ryze's right side. As she held ready at the mage's side, she kept Chalicar ready to be thrown._ "Very well, traveler. I don't offer many this chance to be escorted, but I will make a deal with you. Pay me with knowledge and I may ensure a safe escort out of Shurima. Attempt to ham any more of my men and I'll spill your guts all over the sand. Since you happen to know Chalicar then I'm certain you know how painful that will be. You will address me as Sivir or Battle Mistress. Do I make myself clear?"

It was still clear that they neither liked nor trusted him, as they lowered their weapons at the female leader's command. He noted how she brandished her cross-shaped blade, as if to discourage him from trying anything, though her expression briefly spoke of some sort of inner turmoil - difficulty in accepting something or other. He didn't care. But she did approach him, along with her Second-in-Command, after sharing some sort of look which he didn't really bother paying much mind to. She offered to grant him 'a safe escort' out of Shurima, demanded that he not try to hurt anymore of her subordinates, and only asked that he compensate with knowledge for their troubles. She also gave her name, which caused him to scowl disdainfully - it meant that he would have to give her a name in return.* *He nodded to confirm that he understood her terms, and also to acknowledge her dominance in this scenario.* "Sivir. Not a half-bad name. It's strong, dependable. I'll be frank, I don't usually like to give into the demands of others, and I would rather not have a band of desert sellswords at my heels. Is there any possible way I can negotiate for us to part ways from here?" *He was aware that he might have been pushing things, and that he was likely testing Sivir's patience, but perhaps he could indulge her base human instincts. Perhaps feed her greed or pride? She was quite perceptive, and intelligent enough to know how to bring others into her fold, and she recognized that he was very knowledgeable. He hoped he could use that to his advantage.*

And what will Yasuo do, considering he wants to exact justice on his master's killer? It's just so intriguing and finally a pay-off from the beginning of the lore retcon! Also, I'm extremely curious as to how our current Riven RPer feels about this story so far.

Worst of all, the archmage was rapidly coming to the unpleasant conclusion that, based on what was claimed, these arcane fluctuations were very likely the work of a World Rune. He had seen their work first-hand, and had witnessed the sheer devastation and transmogrification of reality that they could cause. In all honesty, he became transfixed in a traumatic episode brought upon by directly remembering the removal of his native Khom from Runeterra's geogaphy, a purely horrific inaction that lasted a good minute or two before Ryze could muster the strength of will to snap out of it. Once again looking upon Drogon, he focused his reserves of conviction and purpose and imbued magical power into his left hand while muttering something under his breath.* "I do this for Runeterra." *The Rune Mage then dashed forward, closing the distance - which wasn't that much to begin with - within seconds, with his enchanted hand held in front of him. His hand proceeded to phase through the cloth and flesh of Drogon, who would feel as if he were pricked with something long and thin, not unlike a needle. There wouldn't be much if any pain, but he would very much experience an odd sensation as Ryze's hand reach through his body, reaching for the 'something' that had been implanted within him so long ago. One of two things would happen: Ryze would grasp the object - most likely a World Rune - and pull it free from Drogon, or Drogon would resist and things would go from worse to abysmal for the crotchety archmage....* > [{quoted}](name=CALEB THEBADDEST,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Abpg1GQZ,comment-id=000700000000,timestamp=2018-04-09T12:10:08.274+0000) > > The climax approaches... *Following the flow of magic back to its source, Ryze found himself within some sort of.....Well, calling it a garden was making quite an enormous presumption. More jade-colored structures, though in the guise of plants and flowers and all the vegetation that would otherwise be expected of what would normally be known as a garden. There were also statues of warriors and mages, though from what he had seen so far the archmage knew they were not mere statues. Petrified victims, those who were unfortunate - or perhaps foolhardy - enough to have been captured by whatever magic had caused the crystalline plague....or whatever it was. Ryze wasn't entirely certain, but he was sure that there was a temple ahead that may just have housed whomever or whatever had caused the end of the village.* "Well, nothing ventured, I guess." *With that said he raced toward the structure with the intention of confronting The Cause...*

We should let it linger for a bit longer. *At the moment, as the silence filled the air save to allow for the Starchild's quiet sobs, Ryze found himself strangely at peace. It was as though all of the worries, the concerns such as all the dangers and wicked elements that he had faced repeatedly, no longer existed. In embracing and comforting, even outright forgiving Soraka, it almost felt as though he had let go of a not-insignificant fraction of his bitterness and cynicism. Of course, it went without saying that he would continue to keep himself distant from the vast majority of people in general. But this girl - this poor, solitary soul - needed someone now more than ever. Not a lover, nor even really a friend. She had those, even if the former was elsewhere from her. Had she ever known parentage in her entire unnatural lifetime? No mother nor father from whom to receive and continue various wisdoms and traditions? No legacy to carry on with her mere existence?* *Perhaps she had not been born into existence as humans, mortals, did. Perhaps she merely came into being one day, with all of her celestial grace and power, no period of gestation nor the need to be delivered unto the realms. She just was. She has been. And perhaps, with any hope, she will continue to be for a long time to come. He couldn't help but be endeared to how much she had endured on her own for as long as she had. Her spirit had refused to break, or die, or be denied. She always did her best to help others, she always gave of herself, sacrificed for the sake of all but her own desires. But he recognized, and acknowledged, that she did have desires of her own. She had a wish that she wanted to have granted, with all of her being. From what little he had found out about celestials, they almost never had any incentives or needs for themselves. They were self-sustained, and needed neither sustenance nor heralds, though the Targonian Aspects were suspect as far as he was aware. As she spoke to him, addressing her own losses and once again pouring her heart out to him, he used one hand to gently rub her back in a circular motion while his other rested atop her head and also gently petted it.* *He dared not speak up while she did, he didn't wish to interrupt her heart-full words. It was only when she had finished her oratory that he replied in kind, though not with kindness but with more of a grounded solemnity.* "You're not wrong about the need for friendship and love. And I admit that I've avoided much of that in favor of my mission. I would love to tell you that I'll turn over a new leaf and try to trust others more, but I can't make that promise. What I can promise, however, is to try to let you into my life as a dear friend, if only because I accept the fact that I could use some of your famous healing." *He gently pushed her back a bit so that she could see him smiling in self-satisfaction at his last words.* "And also because I sort of want to return the favor. Help you feel like you're not as alone in this crazy world as you've been led to believe. Oh, and if I find out anything that might help you become a celestial again I'll be sure to tell you immediately."

It would have been so much easier to just leave without saying anything, he truly could have chosen to remain silent and take no action. As she tore into him for foolishly following his instincts, as she cracked and crumbled over the revelation that he couldn't trust her anymore. No. It wasn't that he couldn't, it was that he was afraid to. The distress and the pain on his face intensified as he was forced to see that which he had avoided for all of his unnatural lifespan: he was afraid of losing anymore people he might genuinely care about.* *And that had become the case for Soraka. He cared about her. He knew it was stupid, utterly foolish and futile. But he had developed a sort of adoration for the fallen celestial, a budding love that was of a sincere and platonic nature. She had shared her concerns with him. She had revealed her most guarded secrets to him. She had trusted him, confided in him, her heart was laid bare before him. Her she was, even, still pouring her soul out into the open in desperation. She was lonely, she was crestfallen, heartbroken even, and she needed someone, anyone, who could truly understand her and make her feel at ease about her predicament.* *He stared sullenly at her back. He took note of her shaking shoulders. He could tell she was holding back tears. She was devastated, perhaps even betrayed. He could also tell that she did truly value him as a friend, as someone she could share her most intimate thoughts with. Her worries. Her doubts. Her fears. Despite the fact that she once resided in the celestial realms, he saw her at this moment as the most human individual he had ever met. Something in him acted without his consent, as he stepped toward the distraught healer. He placed his left hand gently on her right shoulder, firmly enough not to cause her alarm, and pulled her towards himself. His arms wrapped around her quivering shoulders, forming an intimate seal that only the two of them could understand. He sighed as he closed his eyes and rested his bearded chin against her collar, muttering something that only she would hear.* "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you. Even now. I just...I'm afraid. I'm terrified of losing someone I love and care about. Keeping others at an arm's length has become a habit I'm not proud of, but it's been the only thing keeping me from breaking down and....doing something unspeakable. To myself, mostly. I lost Khom, my family. I lost master Tyrus. I lost friends and allies. It was all for the mission. It was all for Runeterra. All for the stupid people who would never so much as thank me. I bore the responsibility for myself. I gradually distanced myself from others until I was alone. I embraced that loneliness, so much that I didn't allow myself to consider the loneliness of others. The loneliness you have endured, also. You are such a dutiful healer, helping to alleviate others' pain, but if I could I would heal yours. So that you would never have to experience anymore heartache..." (( Omg! This one took me like 2 hours to write! I hope it's decent, it feels kinda bad. ))

Well, trying to seal them away so that they wouldn't fall into the wrong hands..." (( I'm not sure if you made a mistake, because Ryze really didn't say anything about the World Runes, but I really wish to explore this sudden revelation. ))

He couldn't argue against her logic. He had not ruled out the possibility that he also was being corrupted, manipulated, by the very runes he sought to seal away so that no one could ever misuse them for the sheer amount of devastation that he had already born witness to. Even without speaking aloud the implication, his body language made it clear that he was fully aware of the same grave possibility she had come to of her own accord. He let loose a long, heavy sigh as his shoulders sagged and for all intents and purposes he appeared quite dismayed at the notion they were considering.* "I've been at this task for so long. Empires of risen and fallen in the time that I have been seeking the World Runes, my intention was to make sure that nobody could ever again use them to cause calamity in Runeterra. Truth be told, I've never believed myself to be worthy of the task and....." *He paused as he turned his gaze down at the floor between them, his head bowed in a meaningful display of his developed cynicism. He appeared lost, forlorn, and seemed for all the world to want some form of closure. It was clear that there was an enormous rift deep inside of him, within his heart and within his very soul, that was speaking of the great gloom and hardship that he had to endure for so long. He closed his eyes, in a rare moment of vulnerability, as he released yet another though shorter sigh.* "I don't even know who I am anymore. Or even WHAT I am. I've been driven so far by just my wits and instincts, and it hasn't been very pleasant. I don't want to hurt anyone, not inherently, let along kill them. I've become well acquainted with death. With all the lives I've had to snuff out. Because of my mission. Because of the importance of ensuring the World Runes don't unmake this world. I.....I want to trust you, Soraka. I truly do. But I can't....I don't know how much of what you've said and written to me is genuine, and I find myself doubting everything you've shared....More often than not, I find myself choosing paranoia over faith...."

Silence filled the area as bow and hand readied for combat. There was little noise which came from the mouths of the disciplined. They kept a steady rhythm, focusing on the target in this moment. As they further solidified their advantage by covering every angle, the Battle Mistress brought herself around to the front with Shaika mirroring Sivir's movements. As it would be they covered a 60 degree cone, maintaining a distance of a few meters with Shaika aiming for the man's heart._ "If your mission was truly so important you wouldn't have disrespected my desert as you attempted to cross it. Even if what you are doing is supposedly to save the world from some form of destruction, my empire comes before the world. Answer my questions and I might let you live. What is your name, where do you come from, what business do you have in my lands, and what exactly are you doing that is so important to the world?" _Sivir could have been a bit more reasonable when it came to the fate of the world, but the fact was that she was still recovering from the news about her men. While relatively level headed in this situation, the effort she put in to not throw Chalicar at him was ever present._

He scanned the two who came before him, taking in their features and watching their movements. They were in charge. They were the leaders of this band of desert bandits - mercenaries? Her words were sharp, only barely hid a veneer of disdain that he would easily attribute to the loss of the men who had confronted him. They were so rude. Also, he was used to getting rid of witnesses. It was one of the unpleasant duties he had to bear. It weighed heavily on his heart. He unwittingly, very subtly licked his lips as he realized that he had been standing under the dry, hot desert sun for longer than he would have liked. No other motions, however. He scowled reproachfully at the questions that were volleyed at him, if only he were not being threatened by so many warriors....* "I just came from the capital, after having sensed an immense surge of arcane power. I made haste to investigate, but found that not only had things already settled down but that apparently the heart of the empire has been reborn. As for my name, my origin, and my mission.....The first two are lost to this era and the third..." *He paused as if to allow his words find purchase in their minds, possibly even in their hearts, but his tone remained as solemn and grim as ever. He wanted to gauge their reactions, but he also took another glance at the object that the apparent leader carried. In a moment, a realization struck him.* "Ah! Isn't that...Well, if it isn't The Chalicar. A blade of legend like that, in the hands of a leader of mercenaries, is peculiar. Unless.....perhaps you're not just a mere sellsword...." *His lips curled into a knowing smile, so as to imply that he knew more than that.*
: *drogon raises a hand to his chest and taps the area where the heart should be* "right here, i have been roaming this earth a long time , when i arrived here a man had my chest opened up and was placing something in my chest, when i surged with magical power. suffice to say that man is no longer around to speak of what he did to me"

The odd person's words were troubling, the most suspect of them being the reference to something being placed in his chest which made him surge with arcane power. All the possibilities in his mind formed into a chaotic swirl of clashing ideas, but eventually one particularly horrible notion caused every muscle in his body to tense.* "When you say something was placed inside you, it wouldn't happen to be some kind of.....rune? Would it?" *He wasn't sure what he would do, exactly, if it turned out to be as he was now thinking. If it was true, that this individual was bound with a World Rune, then the archmage might have to take drastic action....* > [{quoted}](name=CALEB THEBADDEST,realm=NA,application-id=jxzFAe03,discussion-id=Abpg1GQZ,comment-id=000400000000000100000000000000000001,timestamp=2018-03-28T02:49:46.841+0000) > > Stone golems, eh? *He had witnessed something similar before, though still it was not a scenario one would wish to be a part of. Ryze soon found himself being surrounded by newly assembled golems derived from the mysterious green stone that he had been investigating. Had his own magical aura caused such a thing, or was it merely a response due to proximity? Or was someone somehow, from somewhere, possibly even remotely, watching him? If there was an observer, in that case, it was quite possible they may even have been tracking him from the moment he set foot in the village! Regardless, he was still very much in a predicament he didn't much care fore.* "Tch! Damn puppets!" *He acted quickly, his right hand went for the tome that hung by a strap from his belt and in one swift motion he flipped it open to a page toward the center as he uttered a quick incantation. The book suddenly began to glow as an ethereal arcane force sprung out and circled around the archmage, coalescing into a faint blue-white ring which then became a dome that exploded outward, the golems quickly crumbling away from the sheer might of the magic that struck them. Knowing better than to assume that would be all the resistance he would meet, Ryze wasted no time upon deposing the unwanted 'guardians' in darting off, following the trail of mayhem towards wherever it had begun....*

He knew she wasn't lying. He knew she was a kind and gentle soul, a being so utterly devoted to helping and healing others without even so much as recompense. Selfless? Stalwart? Earnest? Honest. But, yet, what prevented him from outright dismissing his suspicion of her was the very fact that she had someone she loved that she would probably do anything to return to. To reunite with. And he couldn't even blame her for such. As that was the fickle pangs of a lonely heart that longed for its beloved.* "Hmph." *Should he do it? Did he really need to blast her into oblivion to protect the world? To act upon his mission of keeping the World Runes out of the hands of those who cared only for their own retributions? She wasn't selfish, she did genuinely care about the health of others. She didn't seem untrustworthy, but he had long learned not to be so easily drawn in by cunning performances of the most heinous nature. More than just her seeming dejection at his intensity, the sullen smile seemed to reach out to him as if to beg him for restitution from the unpleasant tension that fell over them at her mention of the runes.* *He sighed, heavy and drawn out, as he closed his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. His expression belied his aggravation at the situation, he didn't wish to attack her but he wasn't certain he could fully trust her. A decision had to be made, she was waiting for his final say on their relationship. Friends? Enemies? Something in between? What would they be to each other from this moment onward? What did he want them to be? He opened his eyes, he seemed to gaze at her with less intensity than before, but there was still a small amount of skepticism and concern.* "Not yet corrupted.....I wonder if that's true. I can't deny that I've never once considered using them myself. The temptation is ever present. I fear that one day I will succumb to the promises they whisper. I've come to terms with the possibility of having someone eliminate me and taking up my mission for themselves. My existence is suffering." *Another sigh, smaller and more minute.*
