: How about this? Credit or Debit card number. You don't have to buy anything with it, just register it. So that way you number of rerolls is capped by number of credit cards you have? And that's info you're gonna give anyway if you plan on buying anything ever.
"MOOOOOM. I NEED ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR CREDIT CARDS. MOOOOOM" It would not really work for those who don't own a credit card (Like most high schoolers and under) and I know some people who have been down on their luck and they don't even have a credit card.

{{champion:67}} I have died to her the most this year. I just can't seem to deal with the W. It drives me nuts that there really is nothing I can build in the late game to counter her, she just demos you {{champion:23}} he could go 0/13 and he is still stupid. You pretty much need to dedicate someone in top lane to constantly be there to baby sit it when he inevitably goes to spit push for the entire game until he is at the nexus. Oh you think you caught him? He spins away. Still think You got him? He has ult. {{champion:119}} If he gets 1 crit with his Q you lost the trade. Game over. {{champion:36}} Doesn't die. If you are going to adress narratives as an overview and as a whole you will not avoid future Varus cases at all. There is a huge difference between - "well as a whole the champion is still in the game", and - "he's just not the same champion anymore" when it comes to expressing the bare facts. As you've put it it feels like you will stay away from anything specific that might be criticised and keep it "hollistic" - "yeah all in all we did a great job, who cares about points 1 to 20 from the specifics" > > I completely agree with what TerraRising has posted. The things that are getting replies are only of positive nature. Is speaking your mind about something you think is poor craftsmanship, judgement etc. suddenly above the Varus lore development team or what? Do they not concern themselves with the worries of mere mortals now ? > {{sticker:sg-lux-2}} > > EDIT: Also rather convenient - pushing this change out before the longest holidays in the World, then going on vacation (as TerraRising also said). This only goes to show that they were fully expecting the shitstorm after announcing the change and picked a convenient timing where they can go hide, seems a rather lucky coincidence. > {{sticker:slayer-pantheon-thumbs}} We're still planning to give you all a broader Narrative update, but I get that some of you (including Jacc, TerraRising, etc.) feel we haven't answered the "1 to 20 from the specifics." How's this: **if you hit me with a list of specifics you think we have not answered** (and I'm stressing "have not answered," not "answered but I disagree and want to talk about it more because your answer sucks," because we'll be here all winter if we go down that road), **I'll do my best to answer them all when I come back from the holiday. ** I also want to stress that this - continuing to go back and forth with individual players on the same topic over multiple weeks - isn't a great solution for talking about major changes and the philosophy behind them. I'm doing this specifically because posters in this thread have written a ton about Varus and clearly care super deeply about the changes, and to set expectations, we won't be doing this with every narrative update (we'll still jump into comments, but not for this prolonged of a period or with this much 1-to-1 conversation).
Perfect! I got a few questions that I felt have not been answered 1. The Lore was leaked and people were not fond of it, yet you still released it without changing a word. Why? 2. Why did you feel that it was crucial take away the characters that the original Varus do what he did? They were a blank slate. There was so much oppurtinity and yet you decided to toss it. Why? 3. How is it that when people complain about this, we are told "other people liked it so *shrug*" But I think the main, overall question that EVERYONE has been asking and yet no one has answered directly 100% 4. Why? Simple as that, I have heard the answers "Oh, well that narrative has been used" or "We already know what would have happened, Varus would have been taken by the Darkin" Would he? Kayne is able to overcome Rhaast, why couldn't Varus? What if something came to his life that brought back Varus and made him to begin to overthrow the Darkin? I have said it and said it again, The old varus is dead. he is gone, he is no more. His spirit was not put into this character, he is dead. He is NOTHING like his old lore, he no longer has any of the same motivations as before, he is no longer the same. In fact, I would care less if you changed his name now, cause its not Varus. It's not the vengeful husband who loved his family so dearly that he paid the ultimate sacrifice (and more) to be able to avenge them. He had NOTHING to lose. All three characters have something to lose now. Not-Varus has a sister, and the two hunters have each other. The motivations PALE in comparison, yet I don't think you guys see that. I truly and honestly think that this was done simply to as a PR stunt. You can word it anyway you like to, but in the end, that's what it is. Any person could connect with the original varus. we all get that thoughts, "what if i lost my spouse and child?" but Varus pushes it further "I could have saved them, but I decided to defend the temple, and now they are gone." How could ANYONE connect with the two hunters? "what if my spouse was taken over by a demon and I had to fuse with them to maintain balance so that it doesn't destroy the world?" I'm sorry what? what part of that can I connect with? Last question. It has been a while since the release of this new story. I want you to answer this question for me. How much would it take, for the story to be reverted? what out cry would it require for the easy path to be taken where the demonic goop was the darkin instead? What would need to happen? I got a feeling that your answer to this might be long winded and complicated, but in summery, I think your going to say "Nothing." And that is what pains me the most. No matter how much we yell and scream, this won't ever be changed. You may improve on the next champion ret con, but you wont be touching Varus for a long time. You will leave him the way he is as a message to yourselves perhaps, or maybe to us. But in the end, Old Varus is dead.

Won't ghost you or the rest of the community. I think that you guys are way too broad at times and need to focus in sometimes at certain things. If something (like the varus lore) is something that is important, then you guys need to rally together and laser in on solving the issue. I understand schedules and due dates for clients and higher ups (I work at an animation studio as an editor, I get it) But when there is an issue, and people are constantly talking about it, maybe it needs more attention then what its getting. The problem is, (I mentioned this on my thread) is that the music video sealed the fate of this lore. Tell me, you dropped a BUNCH of time and money in this music video, your telling me that you are going to change the story and make the music video "non-canon"? The things that people want changed would make the music video invalid. You guys might be talking internally how to alter the lore without touching the music video AND make the public happy, but the contents of the music video IS what's making people angry. Not the content itself but the change of content. Now again, you might turn and say "Well! other people like it!" Doesnt matter, the lore ALSO doesnt work, I believe it was meddler that said "The old varus would eventually be overcome by the evil and there is no good story in that" (paraphrasing) Well this is the same with the new Varus, they are just suffering as passengers in an evil ride. The same result is LIKELY going to happen. Everyone has been saying the same thing with adding the darkin in the old lore, make the goop the prisoned darkin. But what if you delved deeper into the darkin's story. Every Darkin so far has been wanting to murder all of man-kind. But what if this one was different? What if this Darkin overcame the hatred that he felt fro humans. Sure he is still looking for a host, but what if he takes pity on Varus and somehow tries to help him? What if the Darkin becomes the moral brake? He would stand out from the other Darkin, he would be the outcast to all type. Hated by the other Darkin for fighting his nature and mankind hating him because he is a darkin. I don't know, I just don't see why you guys would take his old story and just shred it into oblivion.

How much negative feedback has there actually been, compared to positive? Was there a noticeable split in opinion between people actually involved with the lore and those who only casually cared about it due to the big announcement? What do you think about the situation in general? i disagree with this a little - since the new narrative dropped, we've posted comments across forums almost every day, and have definitely been reading all the threads. I can give you some answers about overall reception, but to be honest, I feel like posting that kind of update will be taken as argumentative or defensive, because it's definitely not the view Boards often seems to have. I don't want to come in here saying something that can be read as "the rest of the world is cool with it," because 1. not the point most posters here are bringing up, which is valid and doesn't become invalid because they're a minority and 2. doesn't seem like the start of a fruitful discussion. The situation in general is that the community (Boards and beyond) could probably use some more insight into how we think about champions and their stories. I'm working on that now. One thing I do want to ask about, because I think it's relevant and something you can give us insight about: what do you see as the difference between "people actually involved with the lore" and those "who only casually care?" I don't disagree there's a difference, but I want to know how you all differentiate between those groups.

I don't disagree there's a difference, but I want to know how you all differentiate between those groups. Well I think the answer is fairly straight forward. If someone who does not care so much about the lore or the characters and only want to play the game, they could care less about the story/lore. In all things that are hobbies and interests there will be more people dedicated to certain aspects of anything then others. im going to use cars and driving for my example. you have 3 people, they all own cars and they all like driving/don't mind it. Person 1 knows nothing about their car, they know that gas is go and brake is stop. Person 2 may know how to change their oil and maybe how to change tires. Person 3 knows how to fix anything on a car, they read the manual, they understand every part about it and can repair a car with their eyes closed. So if someone took each person's car and altered something in it and told them afterwards (car still works), what would the reaction be? (Not the best example, but im at work and its the only thing I could come up with) See, gameplay is the action of driving and the car itself is the lore. Some people hop onto league, hit the yellow L and click play. Thats it. Others however go deeper, much deeper. If someone who is indifferent to what they do to the character (as long as they don't touch the gameplay) then wouldn't the person who really cares about the lore have a bit more of a valued opinion then the other? If I had something wrong with my car who would I ask? All in all I don't think we are being heard. I have had many conversations with a bunch of people and none of them like the New Varus lore either, down right ruins the character in my opinion. Yet we are literally just told "Well other people like it!"

Your just a homophobe." No I am not a homophobe, im not even talking about his sexual choices! Varus's original story was MUCH more tragic. why? because he never lost Kai. They fused together, they are as you say. eternally bound together with the "new" Varus. Neither are dead. Compare that to losing your wife and child." Where did I mention in my post that him becoming gay broke my heart?

: You're homophobic, and let me explain why. Why are Valmar's motivations for vengeance and revenge suddenly less because he's fighting in memory of his lost male lover rather than his wife and child? You are implying that the strength of the male-female bond is greater, or that the bond of a male-child (which, from all we know, could have been entirely possible in the future for Valmar and Kai) is greater than the bond between two men. That's wrong, and that implication is homophobic. By saying that without a wife and child to lose, he loses he motivation as a spirit of vengeance, you're saying that now losing the love of his live, who was a man, falls short of that, that is it somehow less, which is just plain wrong. You're demonstrating your view that homosexual love is inferior to heterosexual / traditionally familial love, which is wrong. {{champion:110}}

You OF COURSE attack me instead of understanding what I said. His whole purpose of becoming darkin was because of his wife and child. They took the whole REASON he became darkin in the first place. If they changed it to it being his brother for motivation, I would still be mad, his parent, or best friend, it doesnt matter. My whole point is that they tossed two characters away for no reason, they could have EASILY fixed the darkin concept with the original story. It could have even been his son that he fuses with. But riot throws away characters that is pivotal to lore and just said "yea Varus is now two gay lovers who fused with a Darkin"

Exactly... The Darkin as a race were all but wiped out, so it's entirely reasonable to assume they had a semblance of kinships in their civilization. The darkin's lust for vengeance amplifies Val's, and it hopes to use that as a way to overwhelm the souls it used to make its flesh. Kai is the moral brake on that. But is that canon? Was Varus (the darkin) betrayed in such a way? Did he have a wife/partner and child? Throwing your hands in the air and saying "Well we can assume" No. No we can't. Darkin have ONLY been shown as negative angry spirits that constantly try to take over a host. Aatrox feeds on people dying and fighting in wars, Rhast is trying to make Kayne die and take over his body, and now Varus tricks them into thinking he can save the person but posses him. I don't know about you but it seems that Darkin have a lack of love. You cannot assume ANYTHING in league of legends when it comes to lore. You can't change the story, leave areas blank and then so that "we can assume."
: Honestly, you're saying that because he's gay, he couldn't possibly have the same drive for vengeance as he would for a wife and and kids. Frankly, it didn't make much of a difference to me, he still lost a lover and was consumed by vengeance. It actually proved to me that Riot could handle a character being gay and make it a beautiful story that everyone could appreciate. His wife and kids were hardly established characters (no color story, no mention outside of the beginning, heck they never even spoke to one another that we've seen.) By that logic Kai is much more established than Varus' wife ever was.

By that logic Kai is much more established than Varus' wife ever was. "Honestly, you're saying that because he's gay, he couldn't possibly have the same drive for vengeance as he would for a wife and and kids." I Never said that. I said that this new lore throws out his wife and child as characters, and that his old lore was based on the fact that he HAD a wife and child, that was the whole point of him becoming what he became. That's why they are so important. Don't twist my words.
: While I didn't dislike the old lore Varus, I didn't think it was that special either. We saw a broken man, lost his family and home, unleash a Dark power to defeat an Enemy. In doing so this Dark Power begins slowly corrupting him. New lore allows us to go a little further than the typical revenge story that most League of Legends characters are centered around. We can see the struggle of what is the strongest of human emotions and tendencies. Does the desire for revenge overpower love? Are humans naturally inclined to be evil? Are we monsters? What makes us better than creatures like Varus if we commit even worse atrocities?

What makes us better than creatures like Varus if we commit even worse atrocities? But that concept could have been easily fleshed out without having to completely changing the character. Varus is no longer a husband who was corrupted by an ancient evil. Varus is now a Darkin that has been fused with two humans that have NO recollection of the original story.

The HOTS team kinda changed her up so that she looks more like an original character. BUT you have to remember, Chromie is only a dragon, NOT an aspect. : As a top lane main, i'm miserable. The game has never before been this cruel to me.
I know exactly how you feel. I too was a top lane main. When I first was placed in Bronze its how I climbed out, but as soon as I hit silver I had issues playing Top. I rarely did bad in my lane (More often then not I would win it) but none the less I found that as soon as my lane went down, all eyes were on top lane. 4 man ganks under turret and really there would be not much I could do. I was hard stuck at silver 3 for like 2 months and it drove me insane. There is a problem at the moment in Solo que and its that no one wants to play the tank. People are more willing to play support then a tank. So, I switched to Jungle and ran almost strictly tank Jungles (with a couple bruisers here and there) And honestly I almost flew to Gold in like less then a month, I had a bigger impact on the game. Running hero's who are tanky and have great team fight potentials like {{champion:32}} {{champion:31}} {{champion:3}} {{champion:120}} {{champion:59}} {{champion:57}} {{champion:33}} {{champion:113}} (yes I jungled Galio, it was fun) Top lane and Top lane Champs at the moment are kinda a wild card. Either it does NOTHING, Carries the WHOLE game, or loses you the game. No in between. But I have been finding its been doing a lot more nothing then the other options.

: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/186426797741572098/380075488535642112/Dragon_Age_2_cover.png Dragon Age 2, a good game but a terrible sequel in most regards. The combat and overall graphics were vastly improved, and the voice acting for Hawke was on point with the only downside being whether or not you preferred your silent antagonist whom you could project your own voice and reasonings onto. But if you look in the corner you can see why the game itself was a poor sequel to Origins. Origins had the choice of 3 races of different backgrounds, Dragon Age gave you the same race and story no matter what. DA2 was good and had good story, but its level design wasn't just repetitive in overall design, they ACTUALLY repeated levels while only adding different mobs or just starting you in a different section of the level. Their use of the same levels was pretty good, but it was being clever and lazy at the same time. The game was rushed, by EA. They had a year to make this game and did the best they could and it's quite honestly amazing for a year's worth of time. But had EA not meddled with the production and let the game come out of its own accord there could have possibly been better level design, bigger world to roam in (as it were you had two sections, Kirkwall and the Kirkwall outskirts in day and night cycles.) and better combat on the part of the A.I. The A.I. has many preset moves that delivered poorly, for example "Captain" level enemies had a move where they stick their sword in the ground beside them and just punch you across the face for a brief stun. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't the fact that the animation took forever and still hit you no matter where you were on the field. If EA hadn't pushed them so hard they could have made the combat as dynamic as it was fluid and allowed them to expand on the story in places where they were forced to rush it. EA fucks games and takes money, nothing new with them doing it to Battlefront.

No i completely agree, things needs to be fixed with the PBE. does not seem to be working well for the public, or testing for that matter. Seems like large bugs still slip through the system even though it was "tested"

: except they have no other testing areas and thats what pre season is for. testing out new huge changes to the large force of players, PBE is a shit hole, lets be real. ive never played with such toxic people, the amount of times ive been told to KMS and that ima worthless piece of human filth on that server is beyond counting. The only feedback people really get on PBE is from the big youtubers who lets be real mostly do customs, and the posts made surrounding some bs they managed to craft.
No I gotcha. The PBE is awful. It too needs to be redone in how they allow certain players and there should be some sort of carrot to have people report bugs or issues so that they can go looking for them, something along the lines of that. But there are a group of people who still actively use the PBE correctly. An idea could have been "k guys we are testing the PBE for the next week with blue essence. Everyone will have their blue essence temporally drained and will be given 3000 BE. 5 random champs will be put back into the store that you previously purchased temporarily. by the end of the week everything will be restored to normal." Just to get feedback on how the system felt. IDK atleast something along the lines of that.
: get the F off their balls man. If anything it is only them who got hurt by it, since they "lost money" and have to use time to clarify the screw up now. That bug only benefited you
Your missing my point. Riot Cactapus made a whole post about how as a company they have to figure out ways to still maintain people buying RP. So they chopped Orange essence disenchanting by a third. But then they let this bug slip through and they just say "meh whatever" It contradicts exactly what Cactapus said. They hit orange essence so hard that now it's almost not even worth it anymore so that they can maintain RP sales but let a bug that potentially could have lost them a lot of RP sales. Get my point?
: Can confirm the October 26th IP screwup. The timing on it literally could not be worse but it's easy to verify if you look at your own match history. Here's mine, where you can see it go from normal to D A N K on Oct 26 (click to expand): https://i.imgur.com/kilNLDN.png[/img] And here's a month or so before that when it was all good: https://i.imgur.com/Cl4Tt0h.png[/img]
I still ask though. This is NOT a small screw up. This is huge! This is the economy of league itself! Yet NO ONE said anything until now? ALSO something I want to ask. How could you test a whole overhaul of the economy on the PBE when EVERYONE gets free dust all the time? There was no way to figure out values on the PBE cause no one has to lift a finger to get anything, its all given to them (us). So, its as if you shipped something live, that has not been FULLY tested. The runes are great, loving them. I get it too, you cant fix every wrinkle in PBE, you have deadlines, you have timelines, I understand, I'm a film editor at an animation studio, I get it you cant always get it perfect with in the amount of time you are given. But the blue essence has encountered nothing but issues since it hit live, issues that should have been sorted out a LONG time ago. NOT JUST blue essence either but Orange essence too! There was no way you could test either properly on the PBE. Testing the economy on the PBE is like taking a product to see if it can handle the cold to Hawaii. It's redundant and silly. If you want to test something before you ship it you test it in an environment similar to how it would be in the real world.
: Yeah, but I don't think riot "fixed" the bug so much as "replaced the entire system outright". Therefore, they may not have even realized that there was a bug at ***all***.
I don't know if that makes it better or worse tbh
: Because the **patch notes** exist to tell you about bugs and how they're fixed? Riot isn't going to address every given problem on the boards when there's an *official place and time* to address them all. The next patch would logically be the time that such a thing is brought up.
It's already been patched, the bug has come and gone and they reported nothing on it. It's not something that came up this patch, it came up the patch BEFORE preseason. You don't encounter a bug, patch it then two patches later let everyone know. PLUS, this not a "Oh ezreal's Q seems a different colour bug" this the what the whole economy of league is based on.
Mortdog (NA)
: In prepping for patches as large as Pre-season, often things will go into the game behind the scenes in patches before hand. This was a case of something going in that caused the issue. It's really just bad timing. If you check your own match history before October 26th, you can find the IP system working as it had for years. Case in point, here's mine: https://i.imgur.com/KS7mQ3k.png
But why is this not addressed MORE publicly? Why is there not riot thread saying "hey guys, we messed up, but this is what happened in the previous patch cycle" unless im blind I do not see this thread or announcement anywhere, its just on this thread alone. So people are going to continue to say "hey look I made this much ip before wtf riot" and unless they read this thread they are not going to know that there was this bug. It was NEVER mentioned in the pre-season patch notes either. I dont agree on stealth nerfing. Where you change a bug or mechanic and not mention it to the WHOLE public, it feels sleazy. EVEN if no one noticed it, still. Like you just brushed something under the carpet and kinda hope that no ones notices.

: because it was only live for 2 weeks that they were generous enough to just let slip until the preseaon patch? i mean its not like it was in place for Months and they said nothing. it was a single cycle. how many people actually made any real noteworthy progress in that time that actually define-ably cut into Rito profits in that period?
Well according to Forbes, League has 27 million players that play daily and 67 million who play monthly. It's about 10$ for a 6300 champ (I know 10$ gives more then 975 RP but this is the minimum you have to spend pretty much) So, lets go the average of the player base's since its a 2 week cycle, which averages at about 47 million IF 2% were thinking of spending RP instead of IP, but then 25% of that 2% (or 0.5% of the average player base we set) decided that they were earning enough IP that they could save and wait it out, that's a total of 235,000 people saying "Nah ill wait" Times that by 10$ and you get 2.35 million dollars. But hey, lets cut that in half too, lets make it 0.25% of the population, lets go a simple 1.175 million and then round it down to 1 million dollars. Riot Cactopus was talking about business and orange essence. He talked about how the company needs to make money and so they had to reduce how much orange essence we received so that they can makes their ends. BUT letting a bug like this which increased our IP gains makes them lose money! It doesn't make sense to tell everyone "Hey we are still a business and need to make cash" then turn around and let the bug stay on live for 2 weeks. Of course, the 1 million dollars is simply an estimate. I dont have any data that tells me how many people are buying champs with RP, but none the less it simply brings perspective. The Only data I have are the daily amount of players and the monthly amount of players.

: Hey. I mentioned this on Reddit, but thanks for giving me the opportunity to do so here as well. The IP formula has always been as I described. You can verify that here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Influence_Points Unfortunately for us, around October 26th, until Pre-season, we shipped a bug that increased the IP given. If you check matches before that date, you will see that follow the expected formula. As for why that bug happened, honestly I'm not really sure, and it hasn't been a priority to figure out since it hardly matters now. It certainly wasn't the best timing for it >_<. But I was neither lying, nor was I misinformed.
Well isnt this a bit of a shit storm So a bug was sent out that was granting more IP then normal, no one said anything about it but now that BE is released its been re-tuned back to normal. Idk, just something about that feels off. I mean, thats a relatively large bug, cause in a way it would allow people to earn champs faster and not require people to fork over RP to get the champs faster. How did this slip past? You guys talk about that you guys need people buying RP for you guys to survive and re-invest into the game, I get that, completely understandable. Yet you let a bug that could potentially hit your income live for 2 weeks? EVEN if it was small, none the less, millions of people play league a day, it would add up.

Im curious, So one of the things that people have been saying is that veterans (like my self) have been kinda shafted. I've been playing since before Lulu and Hecarim. So I have seen my fair share of ups and downs. I have almost 2700 games played and spent more money then I would like to share publicly (you can look it up for yourself if you want) Do you have any future plans for us Vets in the works?
: Any word on Darius? The guys at Darius Mains are torn between Grasp, Aftershock, and Phase Rush, while I've been running Predator (since I have a very roam-heavy playstyle of him) but he just doesn't seem to feel good with any of these. The loss of bonus AD in particular really has hit him hard: His bleed is doing significantly less which reduces his lane bullying, and his level 6 is weaker than it has ever been since I started playing League in late Season 5. And unlike other champs with Bonus AD scalings, he got no compensations for the loss of it. I'm not asking for tripled damages or anything insane like that, but even a little love would be nice. As a small example, the likes of Riven, Jayce, and Renekton all got stat compensations on their abilities that had bonus AD scaling, just small ones to cover the loss of it. Something like that would help. The loss of a Fervor equivalent also hurt us badly. As stated above, we really haven't settled on any one keystone that says "This is for Darius" and none of them feel that great overall for us. I'm not sure what could be done about this but anything would be nice. A lot of the guys have suggested a revert of the Noxian Might early game nerf but I'm not sure that's quite the answer you'd be looking for. EDIT: I know you said you don't make changes based purely on winrate (which is reasonable, as proven by your ryze/azir example), but just as a reference point, last I heard plat+ Darius players are at roughly 45-46%
what are your thoughts on Soul Harvest? (cant remember the proper name) The one where you collect souls? I find that one fairly effective.

I know I must sound like a broken record, I know that so many people are complaining about it. But theres something wrong with the blue essence system. It's either we are not getting enough blue essence or its taking waaaaaay to long to level up, but either or, its getting on my nerves. I originally stood by you guys in defending the new system. I even made a discussion defending it. But as more and more people commented, i began to realize that maybe it was not as great as I thought.... The runes are great, I love that concept, but blue essence? not my favourite. Also, over 3.5k for Mastery 6 and 7's? seriously? That's harsh. The effort should be getting those S ratings and not how much essence I have and how I choose to spend it. I should not have to spend in game money to show that I have a mastery over a champion.
: on level 31 Ive got 4 champ shards from capsule and after disenchanting them got exactly 650 BE
Thank you! I was curious cause I hit 148K, 2k short for urf ww so I was curious how much I would get and how long it would take. Thanks a bunch!
