: Just gonna point out: "Turns out that having a cacophony of random people saying things at you is extremely off putting in a gameplay environment (for the player as well as their opponents) Whoops." Why whoops? Extremely off putting sounds exactly like what Fiddlesticks should be. That is the single most twisted cool thing in the entire write up.
Let me put it this way. In the jungle, it could easily confuse players who think that a different champion has entered their sight radius or activated an ability nearby. In lane, it can confuse _multiple_ players since VO is a huge gameplay tell for the vast majority of champions, including the person playing Fiddlesticks. It was pointed out that at times it could feel _really_ disorienting. Maybe two VAs would be okay, but definitely not five. As cool as it might sound on the surface, the gameplay implications were fairly severe. I had to let the idea go. :'''( Buuuuut for now I'm exploring a different version of that type of script, as I said in the update. My producer was visibly creeped out by the current pass, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'll be able to talk about that more **next time on Fiddlesticks Z.**

You can see how we order everything in-client, in the universe portion of the skins tab. I've asked this before, but Neon Strike Vi is still in Super Galaxy, no? Even though no other Neon Strike champions have been released (yet). Also, would it be possible, since these lines are set in space (with the exception of SG for the most part), would it be possible for space magic portals to open up and connect the other universes together?
Unsure. There was a pitch last year to put her somewhere else and we never landed near a consensus with it, so right now she's just kinda floating.
: Almost all of the space themed skins take place in the same Universe. Cool thing about space is its' so big that with enough space between them all these unique flavors (Star Wars, Hitchhikers, WH40k) can coexist

Larriet (NA)
: Might I suggest also mentioning Super Galaxy in this list? Since it's another space theme based on anime~ I was actually wondering about Stellari's comment, especially as she ended up saying it multiple times; I should've figured that was the case. After all, there may not be any concrete plotline, but even as recent as Battle Academia obviously has a "universe" attached to it that is a bit more than "just" flavor text.
Super Galaxy, aka the saturday morning color-coded robot cartoon
: skin line universes
Event Horizon is a separate universe than Odyssey, but the two are connected at a single point: the Ora Gate. Who built the Ora Gate and why they did so remains a mystery, but presumably Rhaast fell through at some point in history and has been waiting for a chance to open it back up for the other corruptants ever since. tl;dr they are two separate universes within the League multiverse, but they are canonically connected by some sort of alien artifact. Rhaast is very excited about that last part, and Dark Cosmic Jhin seems eerily familiar with the Odyssey universe as well... As for differentiation, let me break it down for you. **Steel Valkyries** is a war-torn universe based on rogue galaxy anime like Bubblegum Crisis, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Runaway Ideon. In it, a thousand-year galactic civil war has recently ended, and in the power vacuum a bunch of cutthroats, bounty hunters, and mercenaries have set up shop. The story revolves around the use and proliferation of **Exosuits**, which are banned one-man superweapons capable of untold destruction, which presumably ended the war in the first place. **Event Horizon** is a universe that is, for all intents and purposes, our cosmic horror setting. It is an ancient place where inscrutable entities larger than entire galaxies both create and destroy life, one represented as Cosmic and the other as Dark Star. The cosmic creatures are what we might understand as creation gods, who sort of watch over the aspects of the cosmos and fulfill specific duties to keep it going. The Dark Star is a dread singularity that has become sentient, and erases matter, time, thought, and even _reality_ as it moves through the universe. When it destroys an inhabited pocket of space, the emotional energies of that region are twisted into a being known as a corruptant, which is as close to an eldritch space horror as we've gotten in the canon to date. The corruptants then begin destroying the wider universe at will, hoping to erase every last mote of existence before leaping into the Dark Star and being destroyed themselves, leaving nothing but eternal oblivion. **Odyssey** is a light-hearted space opera more reminiscent of a comedy-action-adventure. There's huge, multi-galaxy-spanning civilization(s) that are all obsessed with a universal power source known as **Ora**, and the plot follows a bunch of heroic idiots as they accidentally save the universe from an insane Machiavellian tyrant, an omnicidal hive-mind assassin, and a star-eating horror from an alternate reality that lives in a magic scythe and sometimes sings K/DA songs in dive bars. That should cover everything! I also want to take the time to say while Stellari was right in noting that most skinlines are just skinlines with a story, that's really from a product perspective. From a narrative perspective, they're all part of a fairly vibrant (but mostly unconnected!) multiverse. It's a small, but important distinction! Hope that helps!

Yep! I maintain that it is one of the best games ever made. I even own the art book.
: I imagine a story with Fid to be more inspired by SCP stories if they're taking the tone from his original story for the new one. Fiddle fits in well with the mold of anomalous one of a kind **thing** that sits in a room that "we don't go to anymore".
Ironically this was his de facto old lore. An evil scarecrow someone summoned that they didn't know what to do with, so they just kinda left him in a closet. He ended up being an execution tool, as the Institute of War would tell people they didn't like to go grab something from the closet and then Fiddlesticks would come to life and kill them. I imagine that conversation went like this: SUMMONING COUNCIL: you have been found guilty of breaking the laws of the institute. your punishment... is to grab us a broom from the old closet on the second floor. DEFENDANT: the closet people have been vanishing in for, like, three years? SUMMONING COUNCIL: nobody vanishes from that closet. we don't know what you're talking about. DEFENDANT: you send people in there all the time. just last week you sent a guy in there for a doran's and we all heard him yell, "Oh no, please don't murder me in this closet!" then he got murdered. SUMMONING COUNCIL: sounds like a janitorial issue. DEFENDANT: it's not a janitorial issue. SUMMONING COUNCIL: we said it sounds like one, not that it was one. you should pay attention to the way we say things. DEFENDANT: i'm not going in the closet. SUMMONING COUNCIL: GUARDS, PUT THE DEFENDANT IN THE MURDER CLOSET.

Hah! Love this book. I read The King in Yellow cover-to-cover when I was still in high school, along with most of Lovecraft's library (ironically this is when I realized that Lovecraft was a terrible human being). The kind of horror I gravitate towards these days is many magnitudes more disturbing than "guy with a weird head" or "small yellow goblin man gets mauled to death by cat." Mostly revolving around human psychoses, but also liminal spaces, horrors of the natural world (versus eldritch, outer-space-horror), and plays on religious iconography/ritual that border on exaltation. Regardless, I have some ideas I'm playing with for Fiddle right now that I hope will surprise you in all the right ways (you pee a little). In my interview five years ago they asked what champion I wanted to write for the most. It was Fiddle then, and remains Fiddle now. I'm very excited.

Zeanix (OCE)
: What happened during the first year of Battle Academia?
: It's intentional. For one, Bullet Angel Kai'Sa is an Epic-tier skin (1350), and they only rarely have unique quotes compared to the base; they largely will only have voice filtering effects. On top of that, Bullet Angel Kai'Sa (and Kai'Sa in general) were released before Gun Goddess Miss Fortune, so even with the latter skin planned, if Kai'Sa was going to have quotes for her, they would've had them in with the release.
This is half true. The problem was that BA Kai'Sa released before GGMF, so if we had any lines targeting Miss Fortune it would have inadvertently leaked the release. Instead we put a little teaser in one of her emotes, where she's looking at a bounty board and GGMF's face comes up. If you're curious, we're finding ways around this by having semi-specific interactions we can later tie to other characters. It's a bit of an imprecise science for now, but hopefully we'll have a fix for this one day.

Considering the wharf rat diet (as I understand it) includes (but is not limited to) garbage, plant matter, insects, fish, amphibians, birds, small mammals, medium mammals, large mammals, rotten meat, fresh meat, dead bodies, alive bodies, and occasionally other wharf rats, it's likely that wharf rats and poros wouldn't get along. Why wouldn't you roll it into the Coven world to make it more rich, and more of a traditional fantasy setting? After all, Emerald Taric exists in this world, is mentioned _directly_ by Eclipse Leona as hailing from the Emerald Chapel, and Taric here is as much of an elf as any of them. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me as to why you'd have so many deeply similar themes, one of which you have established in one world, but decide to splinter them apart in their own world. Ezreal, Kayle, and Morgana could _easily_ be fitted into the Coven world, since it already encompasses a magic forest and elves already. https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/img/champion/splash/Taric_1.jpg
I really wish I could answer this in detail, but I can't. I think (or at least, hope) you'll be happy with our reasoning down the road.

Indeed they are! We've not added skinlines or set adjustments for the last two patches because it would mess with the loot system, but starting this patch you'll see the elves line. We've decided to call it **Albion**. It's also separate from everything else at the moment, so it's a self-contained setting.
: TIL what an anacoluthon is. Here's how I make sense of it: "As a practitioner of masked dance drama many of Shaco's performances begin as social commentary..." versus "A practitioner of masked dance drama, many of Shaco's performances begin as social commentary..." That comma replaces the "as" at the beginning of a sentence. Granted that doesn't work with the Zilean bio aaaaaaand my grasp of English grammar is... well, poor at best lol. Now I'm gonna go ask one of our editors to see if that makes sense or if I'm just completely wrong. Woo! Learning something new everyday.
It's grammatically acceptable in English, but English is a nonsense language and translates poorly almost everywhere. If it wasn't grammatically accurate I doubt I'd ever have been hired, as I use them.... quite a bit.

: I dare you to answer this question, Carnival Knights. Does Star Guardian Urgot exists in the Star Guardian verse in a form?
: Well, then when are you going to fix Mordekaiser?
: I'm going to be real with you, and this might sound harsh: I honestly don't care about AUs or Multiverse that much. Unless it's specifically related to the main lore universe (IE: Noxus Poppy is what happened if Poppy went to Noxus), I just can't really care that much. Now, this isn't because you guys tell bad stories (They're good!) but because I just...don't really care. I want to see more about the main universe. If you guys wanna do a short story or a side-project/skin lore for your AUs, I'll give it a read. However, I just can't help but be far more invested in the canonical universe or universes directly adjacent as "What Ifs" than any sort of weird AU where everyone is a cowboy.
Not harsh at all. How many players log into league each month? 100 million? Somewhere around there? I swear I work here. I totally should know this. Anyway, there is no conceivable way that every individual of a hundred million people is going to like everything we make. It's statistically impossible. So it's no biggie if you don't personally like something. You're more than entitled to do so! But _a lot of people do_. And I mean _a lot_.

: Hey, so first of all thanks for all work you did in 2018! Especially Odyssey Kayn and Eclipse Leona have amazing VO and I love these skins so much. (Seriously, since I bought the Leona one, I almost played Leona only. I love the VO so much.) Okay, here is my take: 1. More Skin Bio. Like, every skin should have a small bio which you can read in the Skin Collection, such kind of things bug me always if the work is only half done. 2. The VO's are great, keep doing your work. Seriously, these have been amazing so far. 3. Ask the Universe Team to create a better way to find all the skin stuff. Things like High Noon, PROJECT and Blood Moon are difficult to find if you don't know where exactly to look. It is fine for Veterans like me, but is really bad for people who are new on the website. 4. Maybe try to use some smaller text forms for skin releases? Haikus are perfect for the Immortal Journey for example. I have a soft spot for Drabbles as someone who used to write these like all the time, so I could imagine that this could be at least worth a try. (Btw, I mean the actual definition from Drabble - a text which is exactly 100 words long without the title. In the english writing scene it seems to be everything that is less than a short story). 5. Crossovers. Things like that "The Omen of the Dark" being a fables in "Eclipse" is amazing. "Odyssey" and "Pulsefire" have huge crossover ability and it would be a shame not to use it. Bonus Points: 1. Already said, but Coven deserve a short story. SG is already popular enough, the short story was not needed. I know, it has been said enough and it was mentioned that they will get skin lore if these return, but I really think the Universe amazing and deserves all the love and attention it can get. 2. If a legendary Syndra skin is in work, please make sure she feels powerful, like Leona does. I almost quite the game cause of her absolut awful Lore Update and I really hope her only shot for a legendary wont be wasted. Especially since the rumors about Anti-Star Guardian exist and it felt like a dodge a bullet that Syndra hasn't got the legendary one. Give me Cosmic or Coven Syndra, which has so much potential visual and lore wise. Something powerful. Not cute, not nice, but actually powerful and sovereign. And that she has more personality than her given lore counterpart, which sadly has none anymore.

This right here is something I would also like, and I'm glad you brought it up so I can point back to it later and demand things. ...on a more serious note, I agree. As time goes on hopefully we can solve this.
: Well, personally, I would like to **see** more of these alternate universes. More art showing off these alternate universes & showing the champs being a part of these worlds. It could be simple bonus art as seen in the Starfall short story. It could be a video like Odyessy. It could be a comic like......um....when was the last skins comic? Anyway, I just want to see more. I know that's not really writing related. But it's the only thing I feel like asking about.
: Heyo! Huge general lore fanboy here (skins included, naturally). Some opinions/asks: VO is a huge, huge deal for me personally. It's how a champion gives life to the alt-verse they're from, it's what gives them character, it's what gives them that _feeling_ of being a real (well..relatively real) person in their own world. VO has been a tipping point when purchasing skins for me (hello, GGMF). Interactions with related champions in-universe, items and in game events with their own spin on them, and random asides talking about where they're from/the world they live in can really make a skin stand out. I think the Eclipse skins (Solar/Lunar Eclipse Leona) really sold that alt-universe witch-knight fantasy quite well in terms of VO and content of said VO. I think that's the bar I'd like 2019 skin VO to adhere to if at all possible. Written lore is also something I greatly enjoy. Worldbuilding and character building is very important to me, and when it's done well it's fantastic (See: Odyssey) and can really make a world stand out and feel whole - which is something that unfortunately isn't always the case (See: Steel Valkyries - that line is easily my favorite line in the game, and the lack of worldbuilding around it feels, well - bad). Selfish take here: I adore longer form stories. I enjoy following a narrative with a twist on the champions I'm already familiar with - Odyssey's _The Lure_ is my shining example, with High Noon's _The Man with The Grinning Shadow_ at a close second. Which kind of brings me to my third point: maybe look to adapt and change existing skin lines and add content for them? High Noon being the example here, of course. The reimagining of the world/skin line really changed the line from being 'hey champions but WILD WEST' to 'the Frontier with champions who actually like, exist here as real people!'. It's kind of been done elsewhere, but the Infernals (as an example) didn't have anything to go with it, really; without any story or real content beyond the blurbs to back it up kind of makes the world fall flat. Anywho, those are my thoughts on skin lore and stuff. I appreciate the question and I can't wait to see what y'all have planned for 2019!
We're working on this actively! Freshening up and revitalizing old skinline narratives that could be even better is something we're always considering, and when the stars align over an older line I'm always excited to play with it and see what kind of adjustments we can make. They won't always get the full treatment, but many get _something_, even if it's just the blurbs.
: I just want to thank you for the wonderful skin universe stories and the hilarious VOs. Honestly, the Odyssey Kayn VO and announcer were some of the lore highlights for last year. First of all I hope all the skins get their bios. Once this happens, I definitely want to see more Eclipse & Coven lore and skins, it's all so beautiful.
The goal is to eventually have all the skins (or almost all the skins) get bios. It's a bit of a ways off, but that's what we're hoping!

What do I want from skin lore? TO START: Lunar Goddess Diana and Guqin Sona lore, for a Lunar Revel present. {{sticker:slayer-jinx-wink}} A personal desire: I would love to see a reuniting of the Battlecast, Mecha, and Project/Program universes. Not through Pulsefire wibbly wobbly timey-wimey stuff (although Pulsefire wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff is a lot of fun), I mean making them into one organically shared universe. Speaking of shared universes, putting Steel Valkyries together with Odyssey would be a ton of fun, in my opinion. I think this would be a more obvious thing than the former, and it might already be true (because we don't know the second universe Odyssey is connected to yet, if I'm correct). An Eclipse short story for sure! Everyone was begging for one when the universe was given some lore and the skins came out; if they have another event this year, there should definitely be a short story for it. And in general, more skin universe lore that brings the actual champions of the universe together and lets them interact, because there's not enough of it yet in my opinion. Bringing some more outlying skins into other universes is something I'd like as well, such as putting Viridian Kayle as an angel of the Emerald Chapel and Blackthorn Morgana as her Coven goddess sister who fell, which many are expecting. Well, that's my two cents on skins. There might be some more stuff I'm forgetting, but here you are.
Battlecast, Mecha, and P/P are quite separate, I'm afraid. It made way more sense that way than a giant robot fist-fight that wrapped a lot of wacky alt canons together with duct tape. I know! I'm sorry you only get Puslefire robot fights! But that's the way it must be, for the good of the land (and our sanity). Steel Valks and Odyssey was actually considered, but ultimately the universes are a little different as we have them written behind the scenes, so we kept them apart (and the end result was much better for it). Eclipse will get something. Not sure when, but eventually.
Galiö (NA)
: I honestly dont think alt storylines are a good use of resources. A lot of the main lore is outdated and is more connected to (it is) the established universe. There is so much more room to explore there that I don't feel expanding a 'non canon' lore really would accomplish much or even help sell the skins. The best Riot can do to help sell the skins is build up the skins in some sort of 'short cinemati' similar to what was done with the... uh... odyssey(?) Skins. I feel that skins should stay as a marketing tool to make money based off of design and intrigue of w.e set they belong to. The story wouldnt really offer much and doesnt effect much either, imo. Hope that didnt come off too negative, especially if you and/or other rioters are more passionate about those alternate storyline.
There's nothing bad about being honest, so don't feel like you have to apologize! That said: While I understand the alt fiction isn't for everybody, the idea that it should only be used as a marketing tool and never otherwise (or even that people don't want to engage with it) is directly contradicted by player engagement data. Not just contradicted, but _massively_ contradicted. I wish I could be more specific than that, but the numbers are... I will say even I was a bit surprised. There is also no real overlap between alt fantasy writing and main lore writing, so there is no risk of the main lore being hampered by what we do over on alt fiction.
