: Alright GD. I study best by teaching, so I'm going to try and explain some marketing concepts to you
When it comes to consumer and business-buyer behaviour, consumers are influenced by a lot. Cultural, Social, Personal, and Psychological factors include: Cultural: Their cultures, sub-cultures, and social classes Social: Their reference groups, families, and certain roles or statuses Personal: Their age, occupation, economic situation, lifestyle, and personality Psychological: Motivation, perception, learning, and their personal beliefs or attitudes When a consumer realizes they need a product, they go through a specific process. 1) Need recognition - They recognize they need something to fulfill a want 2) Information search - They search for information on that need 3) Evaluation of alternatives - They look for alternatives to whatever they've been found or recommended through their social network 4) Purchase decision - They make the decision to purchase the item 5) Post-purchase behaviour - they decide whether or not the purchase was worth it and if they would use this product or buy from this company again This is pretty straightforward. Business-buying behaviour is a little less so. There are plenty of roles involved. The end goal of business buying is to purchase goods and services for use in the production of _other_ products and services. Influencers influence decisions about the product Users are the ones in the business that would be using the product (who the businesses are buying from other businesses for) Deciders have the authority to select or approve final decisions on whether to buy or not Gatekeepers are the most important. They control whether or not your idea even makes it to stage 2. So come on strong. Buyers select the suppliers and arrange the terms for purchase. They also select vendors and make negotiations to purchase the product. --- I'll be entirely honest with you GD, I don't know the specific roles of who does what in business buying, just the definitions of the roles, and I don't have the time to figure it out right now.
: Alright GD. I study best by teaching, so I'm going to try and explain some marketing concepts to you
Okay GD let's look more into how we develop **customer-driven marketing strategies.** --- After segmenting the market into various chunks (Geographic, Demographic, Psychographic, and Behavioural) Geographically, we segment into Countries, States/Provinces, Regions, Cities, and Neighbourhoods. Demographically, we segment into Age, Gender, Family Size, Income, Occupation, Education, and Ethnicity (You may think this is racist, but it's not) Psychographically, we segment into Social class, Lifestyle, and Personality and Behaviourally, we segment into Consumer Knowledge about, Attitude toward, Uses for, and Responses to a product. We can select one or more of these chunks to focus on as long as it makes sense (People living in Canada, who are male, aged 19-30, who work blue collar jobs, for example), and design a strategy around them. This is called "Concentrated Marketing". Unlike Undifferentiated marketing, you're targetting a segmented, niche group of people and not the entire market, and unlike Differentiated marketing, you're not targeting multiple market segments at once. Once you have your _value proposition_ (innovation, service, or feature intended to draw in customers by making your company seem more attractive than the alternatives) set up, you can work on your _positioning statement_ (To _target segment and need_ or _brand_ is _a concept_ that _point of difference_.) Examples: To _MoBA players who don't like Heroes of The Storm_, _Riot Games_ offers _a fast, more intricate MoBA alternative._ To _Busy families who need a fast meal_, _Subway_ offers _a quick and "healthy" alternative_ To _Blue collar workers who love alcohol_, _This new bar_ offers _a very conservative place to hang out_ Then, it's all about positioning. Placing the product within your customers minds That's when proper advertising jumps into play. In this case, we can look at this niche group of blue-collar workers aged 19-30 who identify as conservatives and realize that our value proposition as a bar is to give them a place where they feel at home, and start target marketing toward them by positioning our product properly within their minds.

Old Spice used to try to cater to women but once they found out that men used their product more, they switched all advertising over to getting men to buy their product. So even if you find receipts to prove to me that that's the case, it hasn't been the case for an _extremely_ long period of time (even back with arcade cabinets, you were a man saving a princess, not the other way around. More marketing toward men).
