: RNG ends Korea's three year stay atop the world
What is the point of having a rebroadcast and VODS when I open up the homepage to lolesports and a giant picture of the winner of MSI is sitting right there?

: I understand what you are saying, but I think the Bo5 play offs will separate the top teams from the rest. In the end NA will send their best team to MSI. I was opposed to Bo1 when it was first announced, but I have to admit it has been a lot better experience this split, as a viewer. I'm confident the 6 teams going to the playoffs will be better than the 4 staying home. Bo1 did it's job, now we'll see who can handle Bo5 in the play offs.
We have seen BO1s in NA LCS before. NA gets to any international event and they would collapse once they got to BO3 or 5 matches because they lacked the experience of having to adjust to a team throughout the course of several matches. When we went to BO3, it felt like they struggled in the BO1 round robin. I don't know what the answer is honestly. It seems no matter what, NA struggles in some aspect of the tournament.
Tolkmit (NA)
: Yeah, the reason at least some of us stopped watching isn't the start time. It's because Best of 1's aren't as entertaining. There is no time for stories to develop, for there to be adaptions between teams, etc.
I am soooo tired of hearing analysts say, "We cannot really talk say anything with certainty because they have only played X amount of games". Will be pretty much hearing this all season because at the end of the day, to see if a team is truly good you need to see how they adjust game to game in a series. The problem with Bo1 is that you can cheese and overplan for a game. Much harder to do during a series.

: what other teams the only teams coming back are c9 tsm clg echo and liquid the rest have lost their spot to huge bank rolls some of the best teams from NA have lost spots not only that but to top it off most of them learned of this from tweets....... I understand a few teams mainly ones that have had trouble with funding not accepted but to think this has anything to do with overwatch investment is just crazy because one of the new lcs spot is who? Cleveland cavaliers wait what NBA team you think lcs will be their first priority lol hmmmm..... immortals like most teams operated at a loss since they join the LCS but they understood it was an investment so they help build the lcs and riot tosses them out like scum and the final counter to this overwatch nonsense is c9 has over watch investments along with tons of other games yet they get a spot (I'm c9 fan boy so I'm happy about this} not to point at DIG dropped their overwatch team all together yet were also denied ....... no this is far deeper then what riot says and yes they did KICK IMMORTALS no they CHEATED AND ROBBED IMMORTALS riot you have disappointed so many fans that believed in this league and these teams this coming from a NALCS fan YOU LET US DOWN
You are simply a butthurt fan. You liked immortals and there is literally nothing that would convince of anything other than what you have decided is the truth.
Slippin (NA)
: Did you really kick IMT from the LCS?
They didn't "kick" immortals from the LCS. Every team had to submit an application for franchising. In that application their job was to show that they had a long term, vested interest in the League and were going to take it seriously and see it as a priority for their organization. Immortals failed to do that. I believe I read something about their current priorities and investments being funneled into their Overwatch team. Plain and simple, other teams presented a better long term investment plan.

: Rift Rivals Winner
For those complaining about people coming from with to play for na. This is how professional competitive anything works. Teams and players constantly shift. The red Sox winning a world series with someone who was on the Yankees last year does not make it a yankees win.
: Well deservedly NA should be trashed on. No need for the hate in EU, G2 was awful and so was Splyce. The same goes for CLG and an underperforming TSM. C9 escaped all thanks to SKT but H2K has played as well as the Korean teams so far, bar week 1. If this stupid NA v EU bullcrap can stop, that would be great. But still whomever booed SSG needs to be banned from League due to being toxic.
You cannot say H2K has played as well as the koreans. That is straight up bias. THey had a good week 2 and played an IWC team that was on a downward spiral at the end of groups after having played on their heads for 3 games. THey could not handle the sustained pressure and the element of "surprise we aren't total crap" had worn off. H2K have not played a single korean team and have not dominated their games. Even vs AnX their wins were not clean and game times were extended. H2K is definitely playing well and kudos to them, but they are not playing as well as the korean teams.

He is disrespectful because he didn't have faith in teams that weren't performing well prior to worlds that you are a fanboy of? Get over yourself.
: any particular reason that the commentators are so biased in their broadcast of the game. they pick a side and if their team is winning they act like all is right with the world(s) and there is nothing the enemy team can do to stop it and if the team they arnt pulling for is ahead they act like the world(s) is about to end and their team needs to come back to save it
I haven't noticed that at all. They get into the game period and whoever is behind, they talk strategies for getting back into the game while also emphasizing what got them in the hole they are in.
Nimmer (NA)
: Monte is like the epitome of C9 hate. Really wish I could have seen him on the analyst desk after the game. Great seeing Zirene make fun of the fact he had to replace him with "casters from the winning regions". C9 is getting pretty close to step 6 whether you like it or not, analysts! ༼ つ ◕◕ ༽つ C9 take my energy༼ つ ◕◕ ༽つ
To be fair there was plenty of reason to put C9 at or near the bottom of that group. To claim you objectively had reason to believe otherwise would be a lie. It is great to see them coming together though. I have missed a competitive c9. Honestly this is the best c9 has ever looked to me.
: I'M SO GLAD YOU GAVE THE HIGH EGOTISTIC CLG A BEATDOWN.... EVEN THO TSM AIN'T DOING WELL AND I HAVE MY DOUBTS ON THEM GOING 3-0 IN 4 DAYS I STILL HAVE MY FAITH AND GLAD NA HAS ONE TEAM (C9) THAT CAN ACTUALLY PROVE TO THE WORLD NA>EUW!!!!

: Im sorry how many teams from EU made it out of groups last year
I am from NA, but that was last year. Personally I think NA and EU are pretty evenly matched with a possible slight edge to EU simply because when I compare Fanatic and CLG, while I love CLG, I think Fanatic may have a slight edge there. It is hard to gauge though because Fanatic has dominated EU but haven't seen them outside of that venue. This will be an exciting worlds.
: 1) My point isn't that they're earning degrees. My point is that most of them have played 4 years in high school and 4 years in college prior to becoming professionals. That's a good chunk of qualifications in and of itself. 2) Most NFL players play post-college. I'm pretty sure most people don't finish college when they're 20, more like 22+, and like I said, they go into the NFL with EIGHT YEARS of experience in their sport before becoming professionals. And even after all of that experience, they have to be recruited to play in a college, and then hand-picked by an NFL team in order to achieve their place in professional football. 3) I never said esports players didn't have families. I suggested that most don't use their earnings to support their families. EVERY professional sport has very little job security compared to other jobs. In football, for example, one ankle injury can remove you from the sport for the rest of your life, and you can become a free agent just as easily as you can be released by a professional LoL team, unless you're ridiculously good and you're on a 5+-year contract. Additionally, NFL players need to be able to afford the absolute best health care to be able to remain in the profession. Football is an extremely dangerous, extremely physically grueling sport. You don't see esports players getting multiple concussions from playing their sport, concussions that will significantly lower their life spans and mental health. If anything, some esports players just become careless with their physical problems and choose to ignore them until they become too problematic to play (i.e. Hai before he returned and continued to play), but that can easily be prevented by esports players. In short, there are a much larger number of factors that lead to professional athletes being paid more than esports players, beyond age and education. Also, while there is no job security in esports, you aren't dedicating 8+ years of your life like you are in athletic sports prior to becoming a pro. In esports, you could have started the game 3 months ago and if you're good enough, you can become a pro. The same certainly can't be said for any athletic sport.
NOTHING you pointed out has ANYTHING to do with the salaries that NFL players make. That is largely determined by the amount of revenue that the NFL brings about due to it's popularity. The only reason that NFL players have to spend so many years playing non NFL ball is because of the physicality. THey used to draft kids out of high school. However, there is a lot of physical growth that still takes place and these kids need the years to develop physically and the NFL got so huge that they needed a system to pick through the best of the best. College is a great filtering system. How long it takes you to learn to do something rarely has any bearing on how much money you make. To do my job has taken 8 years of college. I am not making anywhere near an NFL salary. So pointing out how long it takes people to make their way into the NFL is stupid.
: The top LoL players are making hundreds of thousands per year. You have to compare e-sports to these leagues when they were in their INFANCY! The TOP paid MLB player (Ty Cobb) was making about $10,000 in 1913 (about $250k now) which was 44 years after the MLB was founded. The TOP LoL player (Faker) made about $300k according to one site I saw. Again only a handful of years after the founding of the LoL LCS Series. There are scores of MLB teams. There are not nearly as many LoL teams.
: NFL players also played in and graduated from high school and college, whereas most, if not all, Esports players either don't plan on going to college at all or are postponing their college plans so they can participate in Esports. NFL players are exponentially more qualified than League players who could have been playing the game for as little as half a year before they began playing professionally. Also, NFL players are adults, many with families that they provide for, all with bills to pay and retirement to consider; and they each represent their respective million-dollar corporations that are sponsored by multiple billion-dollar corporations. I think it's safe to say that most esports players aren't using their earnings to provide for their families or to plan retirement and that they don't represent such corporations.
Wow really? 1) NFL players go to college because they HAVE to in order to have a chance at being drafted. 90% of those players have fluff off degrees and put piddly squat into their academics. They go to college to simply play ball, not to earn a degree. You clearly don' tpay much attention to that aspect of things if you think that these people are seriously trying to obtain a degree to better their life. 2) NFL players are adults? NFL players start in their very early 20's with very little real world experience and are handed TONS of cash. Don't try to act like they are mature adults and as though that has ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING. 3) Several Esport players have families and most Esport players are not making enough money and of course there is 0 job security in which to support their families and think about retirement. Throwing a ball around a field at 20 vs playing a complex video game at 20 is no different. Neither one qualifies you to earn more money than the other. THey both require tremendous amounts of commitment. The only major difference between the two is that it is easier to hold onto your NFL career than it is an Esport career.

: NA sucks rn... if this is NA's "Golden Age", then I'm very worried for Americans. I'd say last year's NA>This year's NA. Fnatic is overrated; if they get matched with EDG and KT they are screwed.
CLG is looking very strong, TSM and C9 have potential to do well. They are two teams that always step up to pressure regionally and the last two years have been progressively getting better and better on the world stage. I don't anticipate NA in the finals, but I expect at least one of the three to be competitive.
: NFL - Players get an extra $64,000 for winning the Superbowl. MLB - Players get $0 extra for winning the World Series. NHL - Players get $0 extra for winning the Stanley Cup. I think that if the players even get to split half the grand prize for winning worlds ($100k) with the rest going to their organization, that is a pretty decent bonus considering E-Sports is in it's infancy and these other major sports leagues have been around for decades.
NFL players make hundreds of thousands a year. MLB players make hundreds of thousands to millions. Esports players aren't raking in that kind of cash.

Aside from the great points everyone else made, you don't get to play the card "they aren't from NA they don't get to represent NA." North America is considered THE MELTING POT OF THE WORLD. : Awfully presumptuous of you. I personally believe that China is the 2nd strongest region, but it's really not relevant. The point is that whatever opinion you have on the matter, it should be based on overarching trends and historical performances, not individual days in the group stages. It's ridiculous to assume that NA is the 2nd best region because of their performance yesterday, just as much as it'd be ridiculous to assume that EU is the 2nd strongest after today. They're single days of games, not the gospel of international competition.
So one win by EU defines them as second best? Meanwhile NA is top of all of their groups at this point. ONE WIN or LOSS is not a trend.
: Exactly. NA. The land of friggin opportunity. It's awesome that we have so many different styles in our region now. It makes all the teams stronger.
And honestly people like to trash on NA, but these teams from other regions don't come over here and dominate LCS. LMQ came from China and got 3rd, beaten by TSM and C9. EG came from Europe and got almost last place. Things are close. If NA was really that bad it wouldn't make sense for good teams to come over here. You don't get good by playing bad teams.

: Why are you the only intelligent person to post on ANY forum on lolesports? Everything I ever read regarding "NA vs EU" is a fucking toxic farm fest. Although my personal opinion doesn't matter, we need more people like you in this community who use their brains to judge situations/things instead of just throwing out random facts that spark arguments. For that, I thank you.
You also cannot judge the quality of a team based on 1 game with full rosters. Especially when that game for TSM wasn't super important. Would have been nice to win for better matchup in quarters but not necessary. SK had pride on the line and to SK's credit most of their games were close. Their record was a couple of plays away from being a lot better. They definitely were trash, especially considering they had a sub jungle the first three games. Overall I don't think you can really say there is a huge difference between EU and NA. I also think that the gap between NA and Korea has closed significantly but still in Korea's favor.

: The reason many NA fans boo LMQ is because they feel its unfair that a Chinese team can come to NA and take a spot for Worlds away from an American team. It's not about racism, if it were all the Asian American players would get booed too.
LMQ moved here and live here. Get over it. They didn't TAKE a spot, teams that have americans who have lived here longer didn't earn a spot. Many of the teams have recent European or Korean players who moved here to play. Nothing wrong with that. America is considered the melting pot, we all come from a variety of places.
