They get ID on those accounts. And yes, it's not extremely difficult to operate a stealth eBay account. But it's not extremely easy either. One day, the guy forgets to use the VPN... Meanwhile, it's my thought that somebody who is already walking on eggshells, operating a stealth account, is much less likely to break the rules again. Hopefully. The reward for circumventing eBay security justifies stealth procedures that might be difficult to justify just to play a video game, unless one is a streamer or something like that...
: Ban IP addresses
When Riot has a financial motivation, they are capable of implementing increased security: they require a unique telephone number for Clash participation. Electronic mail address, telephone number, and IP address associated with each account gives some degree of identification. If the account gets banned and another account is caught on one one of these points, OR another collected point, like using the CC that was used on a banned account, then that account is banned - PENDING ID submission via fax or email. (Because, "that was my BROTHER who got banned!") Now they have an ID on the account, in case THAT account gets banned... This is actually pretty basic stuff, and a company like RIot can do much more sophisticated things.

The fact that even with the current level of security they were generally able to catch Tyler1 every few months, and that he was using stealth account methods of a much stronger sort than the average player would bother... When Riot finally decides that they want to keep somebody from playing, then they do a decent job of keeping that person out. I have a suspicion that it's a short-sighted profit motivation, behind turning a blind eye to new accounts from banned users. Because, there's no reason for them NOT to ban IP addresses (private ones). Even if it only stops a small percentage of banned accounts, it costs nothing to implement. How many of the naysayers in this thread, have already been banned?
: IP bans are incredibly futile and useless. you can change them via VPN, MAC spoofing, or setting a static one and changing it every time. let alone the fact that say if i had a little brother who also plays league, i would get it for him being a troll.
> [{quoted}](name=Snapp2Kill,realm=NA,application-id=yrc23zHg,discussion-id=BY5yt0BE,comment-id=0002,timestamp=2018-12-02T21:06:43.151+0000) > > IP bans are incredibly futile and useless. you can change them via VPN, MAC spoofing, or setting a static one and changing it every time. > let alone the fact that say if i had a little brother who also plays league, i would get it for him being a troll. If you have ever been a banned seller on eBay, then you know that IP bans do not have to be futile. They can be part of a fairly effective security program.
: Ban IP addresses
VPN can circumvent IP Ban... but... a significant number will be stopped by that simple measure. (Even the savvy ones do eventually screw up and get caught.) (Even if it doesn't stop everybody, at least show that you try.) Just because we won't stop every troll, is no reason not to try to stop some of them. At least make them take Tyler1-esque measures to circumvent the policing. But also, offer some rehabilitation program simultaneously, so that some might consider it easier to rectify their behaviour rather than play "on the lam". If they used approximately the same measures that eBay uses to keep bad sellers from using new accounts, then that would stop a significant percentage of the banned players from returning. Operating a "stealth" account is enough of a hassle that most players would either try to repair their reputation or else find another game to play.
