Yep - you can even hear them overlap on the intro. They have pretty different timbers, IMHO. Kayle has a very pure tone, and Morgana sings with much more vibrato.

NoodleJu - thanks for sharing your story with us. While we never forget who we do this music thing for (you, the player), it's always a thrill to hear back from you, and read that we are part of what inspires you. This more than validates all the work we put into League music. Thanks for listening!

It took us a few tries to get the voice right for this. I guess I wanted something that reflected Neeko's youth (young, but not too young - somewhat naive but also full of experience), and find the right ethnic blend for the timbre (somewhat latin, somewhat central Asian). It was a fun challenge! My conversations with the singer, Úyanga Bold, went something like this "- Try a couple years older? - Let's make that sound this more inviting. - Mind if I try singing with these words? - Is this positive enough?". Just a lot of fine-tuning.

: I'm gonna be fully honest I love this theme, but very little of it show her curious nature, it's honestly a terrific Vastayan theme and a great direction for them as a species, not so much a Neeko(as she is portrayed) theme. In particular I think the opening piece should've been repeated more than twice, and the mimicry at around 3:00 should've been more prominent. The opening noise gives a curious ring and the mimicry really represents Neeko, I wish they were more prominent. Doing "curious" music is something that I find very hard to do (unless you're doing reality TV music, which isn't what we do for League :P). Instead, I wanted to elicit curiosity for the music, which I would hope translated in "this is a character full of curiosity". The mimicry is more of a nod. When writing music for a champion, I don't think we should necessarily do a secretarial translation of their kits or gameplay. It _can_ work, but it's usually more satisfying to write for a champion's inner "color" - what are her thoughts, motivations, outlook on life? This usually makes for a more satisfying piece of music. As an Ahri main, I look forward to the opportunity to write music for her! Thanks for listening!

NoodleJu (NA)
: Riot Composers
Hey NoodleJu! My colleague Talondor brought up a bunch of great points here, and I will try to add some of my perspective on the subject. Writing music for media is an incredibly competitive job. It takes a lot of time, work, patience and resilience to break in, and quite a bit of luck as well. It’s important you remain open-minded during the early years of your career. Having too narrow of a focus (writing music for video games for example) may lead you to miss out on opportunities that could sustain you better (sound design work, for example), and you have to remain flexible enough to be able to pivot. Interestingly enough, I was a performance major in college, and was a professional musician for a few years before turning to composition. I did take composition lessons prior to that, but I am mostly self taught in composition (and 100% self taught in production). I seized an opportunity in the composition world that has led to many wonderful things for me, embracing a different path under the greater umbrella of music-making. During your college years, I would encourage you to become as strong a musician as possible, and, if possible, to take on gigs here and there. Remember that what they teach you in school and what you will be expected to produce in a professional environment are, more often than not, very different things. Also, part of what you pay for during college is whatever network you will build during your study years. Build lasting relationships there! I don't know about your music or what your aspirations are, but here is some general advice (all of which applies to me, and, well, probably most everyone else, too!): - music for game (or any other media) is a business, not an art. You may think what you do is art, people may think what you do is art, but at the end of the day, you have to sell your music, and, more importantly, sell yourself; - be ready, may it be for your next gig, meeting, sending out demos, difficult situations, have your gear stable and ready to operate, etc. Unfortunately, and however far common sense will guide you, you'll never be entirely ready for everything - learn to cultivate how to be a problem solver as well; - obviously, having superior music skills is of the essence, and working on your writing is important, but meeting people and making connections is even more important (and that is something I'm still trying to improve upon myself). You should be connecting with as many people as possible (game designers, other composers, players, etc.); - professional music composition rewards curiosity. Make sure to always seek out new sounds, techniques, business avenues, etc.; - make sure you are VERY good with music production. We live in a world where everyone’s stuff sounds great. You can’t expect to break in if your work doesn’t sound good; - it is never too early to start developing and/or listening for your own voice. You will NOT be asked to write in your particular and unique voice early on in your career, but you will NOT be able to develop a long lasting career without having something that specifically identifies you musically (there are a few people who have built careers out of being chameleons, but they're an exception). For instance, while we all write music on League, we all have a unique voice and I can totally tell who writes what. Work towards the goal of having a unique and identifiable voice as a composer. Ideally, you want people to call you for what it is that _you_ do (Cliff Martinez, Thomas Newman, John Williams, hans Zimmer, etc. when you read those names, you can hear their music right away!). I hope this helps! Good luck in your endeavors. Ed the Conqueror

: Project: Jhin Game start and Ult music
Hey VoidSpawn Bot, The music for Project: Jhin's first move and ult are based off of the Project: Hunters login theme as well as a track I wrote specifically for Project: Jhin. That track can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-jhin-neon-cherry-blossoms After completing the music, I "stemmed" both tracks (= submixes of the track, such all drums, ambient synths, bass synths, violin, etc.) and gave those to Riot Jirsan, the sound designer who worked on Project: Jhin for him to create the first move line and ult stuff. Unfortunately, once removed from the game, these have little standalone value which is why we don't release them on SoundCloud, but everything about them comes from the two tracks I mentioned above. Hope this helps, thanks for listening! Ed the Conqueror

: The Music Of League of Legends Needs a Rework!
Hey BornToBeAhriGod (I'm an Ahri main myself, but clearly not a god, more like... bronze-clad Arhi), Thanks for your awesome question (and your kind words on the music for "The Climb" which I wrote and produced)! The following are my views on the subject and do not necessarily reflect those of the rest of the music team or those of the developers of League of Legends. League is a highly competitive game... which is a blessing for players _but_ creates strong limitations for music. One of these limitations is that we are trying NOT to interfere with gameplay with information that may clutter perception/interfere with it. The music I wrote for Star Guardian that you hear at the beginning of the game only plays there for that very reason (not much happens before the music ends). Another limitation has to do with how quickly game states (which is a technical term that generally refers to the stage the game is in) change in League. Whereas you can define a set of rules on how the music could change overtime (gold, objectives, dragons, etc.), a lot of fights have very quick onsets, and have very unpredictable outcomes. How music would react to these game states would be pretty haphazard - we could have music that doesn't react fast enough (getting in or out of fights), or do it in a clumsy way, or do it in a way that fits rapid changes but sounds bad. In any case, these sudden changes with music would probably interfere with having clean, readable audio gameplay information. More linear games with NPCs have more predictable outcomes that really help defining solid rules for interactive audio, which allows for a wider range of implementation of interactive music. SR is particularly complicated in this regard (and is also our only competitive map). I wrote the music for Dark Star Singularity, Star Guardian Invasion and Project Overcharge maps/modes, which allowed for a lot more variety in the approaches we chose. Of course, the stuff I mentioned above doesn't mean there's no room for improvement or that we won't find a good way to have very interactive music for League. Cheers! Ed the Conqueror

Hey Her Protection! I had small part in this, writing and producing the music. We spent quite a bit of time woking on a theme that would be memorable _and_ encapsulate the feeling of playing ranked. I then proceeded to score the video, and refine the production and scoring until we recorded a whopping 82 musicians. After I mixed the music, we had a few days of dub, where music, sound effects and voice over get mixed together. I hope this answers some of your questions! Ed the Conqueror
: Kled theme
Hey FrogsInTheNavy! Thanks for digging Kled's theme. It's still one of my favorite projects that I've been fortunate to work on. Unfortunately, I haven't made tabs for this. I read music and kinda learned it on the fly. I had to play it on guitars, mandolin and banjo. It _is_ a little tricky (especially at the end) but use your ears while playing along with the music and you should be able to figure it out! Best of luck! Ed the Conqueror

I am an arranger and composer, still in high school, but it's my dream to be a composer for a video game company so I can combine the things I love. Do you have any tips or ideas on how this is possible or what I should do? Hey there! I do have a few random tips, not in any particular order: - if you are going to be writing music for games, make sure you're a gamer (duh!). Gamers can sniff out non gamers very easily. Because music is such a time-intensive endeavor, don't spend ALL of your time playing games, but know what you have to know; - mingle with game developers; - embrace the idea that writing music for video games is, in fact, being a game developer who specializes in music; - learn how to write and produce interactive music; - be flexible with your career options. I am (and have always been) medium agnostic. I used to do a lot of TV and now I work on League. I love writing music for film as well. You don't know where your musical journey will take you, be open-minded and learn to recognize, pursue and seize opportunities! I hope this helps! Good luck in your endeavors! Ed the Conqueror
Niyumi (NA)
: Hey, music guys (particularly Ed)
Hey Niyumi! I second Just ChiII in his assessment that it doesn't matter what DAW you use (within reason, of course - certain DAWs that have very specific specialties would be too limited for "general audio and midi production"). Outside of the DAW, there is a bunch of software and hardware that play a part in the making of music. That greater ecosystem may include samples (the actual sounds you use, often "multisampled", mapped across the keyboard, so you can play them using the DAW or midi keyboard), a midi controller (keyboard to input music into the sequencer), sound interface, plugins, etc. I don't know for sure whether FL Studio can do orchestra, but I can imagine that it does. See what sounds/samples come bundled with it. In time, you may find yourself wanting to expand your palette of sounds to include better or more varied samples. If you want to produce orchestral music with a computer, you will need to harm yourself with patience, it's almost like learning how to play an instrument. Ultimately, what matters most is what YOU have to contribute as a composer - the stories you want to tell, the colors you like, etc. Make sure to cultibate that first and foremost (and study/listen the masters!). Good luck in your endeavors! Ed the Conqueror
: Hello, I'm a conductor of a belgian fanfare orchestra and maybe you can send me some scores so I can arrange it and play it. I think that your wonderfull composition would sound great! If you have any copyrights, I can even pay you for the scores so it is fully legaly. p.s This is the best login theme until now, it's actually a masterpiece! Maybe you can comment to make contact? Thanks Vincent

Regarding the sound effects from the Login Theme: I meant the ones from the original Login Theme :) At the moment the only start of game music file that I heard or found in the game files was the beginning part of the 2017 Project login... Nice to hear that you wrote an extra track though ^^ I hope it gets added together with the new passive speedup particles next patch :)

: I literally exploded when I heard project Jhins ult theme.
Hey guys, Glad you're enjoying the Project Jhin music. Here's the track I wrote for his in-game music: [https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-jhin-neon-cherry-blossoms](https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-jhin-neon-cherry-blossoms) The rest of the ULT stuff comes from the login screen music: [https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-hunters-login-music](https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-hunters-login-music) Enjoy! : Project Jhin Ultimate Music
Hey Mid Narcissist, I wrote the music for this year's Project, including Project Jhin's music. You're in luck, here's the track I wrote to create the ult music! [https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-jhin-neon-cherry-blossoms](https://soundcloud.com/leagueoflegends/project-jhin-neon-cherry-blossoms) Enjoy! Ed the Conqueror
: I love your work :) Do you maybe still have the sound samples of Jhin's Login Theme, the reload and shot sounds used for the beat in particular? Edit: Also, why does Project Jhin only have one track at the beginning of the game? Would it have been to much work composing another track since it's only a skin?
