: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: December 20
Happy holidays to the whole Riot team. <3<3<3 I've got a family member back from deployment, and this is one of the games we've been playing together. You connect me with people I haven't seen in person in years. =)

Sooo no damage is ever done before the point when someone asks for it to stop?

Im for punishing toxicity. But i am anti PC Culture
Why do you view racism/homophobia/ableism as unacceptable, when sexism and sexual assault are appropriate to joke about? I don't view this as PC culture so much as human decency; I try not to go about my day hurting other people either deliberately or with my own negligence. If harm is done to another, it doesn't really matter whether or not I was *trying* to achieve that effect. A person hit by a car was still HIT BY A FREAKING CAR, regardless of whether I wanted to ram them or was just not looking/drunk/etc. I still make plenty of jokes and usually have a good time on the Rift. Admittedly, Phreak might be one of the only people who can enjoy most of them. But I honestly don't feel encumbered, censored or restricted by actively avoiding these kinds of topics. I think that other people could also enjoy the game without the element of intimating or describing sexual violence. You've claimed you don't particularly enjoy or support making these jokes as well. I never said i like making rape jokes, or find them funny, i frankly dont care. I've had relatives die of cancer. But i dont break down in tears every time someone makes a cancer reference. So please. Dont put words in my mouth I do wish riot would escalate punishments for disability related hatespeech,:{{item:3031}} autistic" but it's out of fairness rather then actually being offended. If racial or homophobic slurs get it. So should they" Now im all for reporting someone for using rape jokes deliberately to trigger someone. But your naevity isnt going to solve anything. Wishing the trolls would go away. Isnt going to make them dissapear. This is reality. And using personal attacks on people simply for being realistic just makes you look like a "professional victim". And not everyone who makes a sexist joke is out to get you. Most people "unfairly" assume you're a dude.
Okay, so congrats on apparently having impregnable skin. You still utterly neglect to address my point that lots of people would benefit from less of this on the Rift. I'm also incredibly confused. If racial, homophobic, or ableist slurs are punishable offenses, then why are sexist/rape jokes something that should just be... ignored? And I honestly don't see what I'm doing as putting words in your mouth. I suppose I just don't see the difference between you defending this behavior and you being okay with it. Lastly, I don't understand why you're putting terms in quotations. Unless you're implying that victim-blaming is a thing that doesn't exist or never happens, and assuming things like a person's gender is perfectly justified because of one pastime...
scazzman (NA)
: Except . Most people can see a rape joke "or any other offensive joke" as exactly that. A JOKE. And i dont care if im "victim blaming". If your ptsd is as bad as you claim, you should mute all every game youre not in a premade. And probably stay off the internet altogether For your own sake. Making posts like these, will paint a target on your back for trolls. And NOTHING will keep it from being the internet
You do realize that it's *impossible* to stay off the internet, right? Unless you expect me and people like me to just miss out on news, connecting with friends and family, shopping, shows and movies, recipes, BASICALLY EVERYTHING so that YOU (or at least people you're dead-set on defending) can make some poor-taste jokes. You do realize people hurt themselves and even die because of this sort of thing? Or maybe you just don't care because it's not currently *your* problem? Let's take this a few steps further- "Oh, you got hit by a car? Well, if you never want your bones to get rebroken, avoid moving cars. So never drive a car, or ride in a car, or a bus, or a train that crosses any automobile thoroughfare, and *definitely* stay away from parked cars because you just never know if the brakes are in good working order... (Yes, this is actually how thoughtless and callous you sound right now. Except I could actually understand that you would suffer giving up a car; if your life is ruined because you can't tell sick jokes, you have bigger problems than ELO.) I also would like to point out that everybody has their limits. One day yours might smack you right between the eyes. Maybe you lost a family member to cancer earlier this week, and you'll be overwhelmed when someone makes the inevitable reference that [x champion] is cancer. Maybe someone you care about committed suicide, and you really don't want to see people typing in all chat "kill yourself." Maybe you lost a pet, and someone threatens to run over your dog. Maybe the only thing that's happened is you've had a really awful day and want to unwind, and someone deliberately goes out of their way to flame you and make the game unbearable just because they're a troll. THE LIST GOES ON. You really think it's a viable solution to just shrug and say, "well, that's the way it is?" When has that attitude ever produced results, exactly? Regardless, as angry as I am right now, I can honestly say that I hope you never experience this. It's worth changing! It would benefit ALL of us if the Rift were a less toxic, crap-flinging place. Why would you oppose such a thing? I literally cannot wrap my mind around that.
: So your post was all about you then? I thought that maybe you wouldn't want to see others get hurt, thus creating this giant post about it.
*Of course* I don't want to see other people hurt. You think I'm the only one who gets triggered, or doesn't want to deal with this? If you think of a better way to address the problem than *saying something,* (doing nothing is definitely not beneficial) then please let me know. Until then, I submit anywhere from one to 8-9 reports to Riot a week, going, "Hey, all these players made rape jokes." The company can't necessarily police our thought process and the actions we choose to take. I thought maybe we should do so ourselves. But I guess trying to address the community as being comprised of *mostly* thinking, rational, empathetic adults is just making the problem worse, eh?
: If you tell an entire community NOT to do something, they are going to do it more. It is like telling a child not to press the big red button while leaving them in the room alone with it for 3 hours. Your stupid post is more of a cause rather than an effect.
Well, rape jokes were made *before* I made this post aplenty; I detailed in my own experiences that my response is incredibly powerful and visceral- it can literally ruin my day if I get triggered- so it's not like things can get any *worse.*
Drugoth (NA)
: So last night I was in a coop vs ai lobby intending on practicing Evelynn. I took smite and told the top laner: "Don't worry, I'll just take blue and then come straight top to rape the bots after." I said this because I wanted to ease his conscience, I've seen a lot of people complain in the past about people jungling in coop vs ai games and leaving top high and dry 1v2. I only realized how offensive my statement was after I typed it... Thankfully no one decided to report me, I really do regret it when I slip and say such horrible things. {{sticker:sg-soraka}} P.S. Rito please don't {{summoner:11}} me, I regret what I did, and no one reported me!
It means a lot- at least to me- that you're willing to rethink your words. Thank you. <3
: Another generic white knight. {{sticker:slayer-jinx-unamused}}
I'm intrigued to hear what else you think you know about me. Here I thought I was female, and was actually speaking about these issues because they affect my quality of life and *not* because I'm a guy who's just trying to woo the ladyfolk with fake courtesy. Please, continue!
: There was nothing unbiased about that poll. It was quite clearly biased. I happen to agree with you that Rape jokes are not okay. But the way you handled this was wrong.
I don't know how many ways to explain this- I just made the poll the way I did to see how many people had experiences similar to mine. I'm sorry that seems to be *so* inflammatory.
: I think it really amounts to perceived intentions. The simplest way I can explain it is sexual fantasies. Some people like to roleplay in that regard, but would absolutely never enjoy actually being assaulted. When there is a mutual understanding between two consenting adults, the intention is quite clear. If a person on the Internet makes a rape joke, instead of looking at the joke, look at the person's overall attitude and personality. If it's evident that he's just trying to make people laugh or is unaware of its offensive nature, it would be best to calmly let that person know. If I were telling a joke some people found offensive, I would tell different jokes according to their taste. The life of a comedian is riddled with despair and conflict. We must always be afraid of offending someone or quite simply telling a bad joke.
*hug* If you're willing to even tell different jokes, then that's better what I usually get and I love you (in platonic and non-threatening ways) for it! I suppose I'm becoming very "I don't want to run into it in the first place" because a fair few of the players who go down that road don't care to stop. I actually had a Xayah _on my team_ the other day who said something about what a creepy uncle did to their arsehole, which recreates the dynamic under which I was abused (older male taking advantage of a child.) I typed, "Rape jokes will put me on tilt, please don't," in team chat, and they decided to keep pushing the envelope. "Who said it was rape?" Muted, but damage was done. Struggled for the rest of the game; still got two double kills. I guess I just don't trust most people to have your response of acknowledging my request, and I know for certain that once it's said I cannot promise that I will play well. =/ Not to mention that my own experience with the game is ruined, but... This thread makes me feel as though people don't really care about that part, which is depressing. I try not to ruin other people's enjoyment; why does mine matter so little?
: Just report and move on. sorry for the crap you needed to go through.
The point I was trying to make- admittedly, though most of the people who need to be told aren't going to find this post- is that it shouldn't be said in the first place. It's a bit like telling someone to press charges after another person stabbed them; the stabber should have known that their actions were harmful and not committed the act.
: I was talking about league at a chess club meeting and a Dota2 player was trying to make conversation and said "So, what's your main?" And I'm like "Draven... but I'm not a huge loltyerl1 fan." and he's like "uhh I think I've heard of him but why do you need to say that?" I tell him "Because he got banned for being toxic" He just laughed at me. He said he's never heard of that before and his friend yells over "yeah, I don't think you can get banned for that in Dota..." I don't know if this is true, but a lot of people don't care that someone's being a dick. Use the mute option, I know I need to start doing that more :S
I got threatened with rape in a Dota2 game. Because sometimes on the internet voice chat + being female = rape. Yyyeah, I feel like Riot is a lot more responsive when I report someone for similar offenses. *shrug* Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal; take it with a grain of salt. =)
: Appreciate ALL the replies. I worry a bit because there are 9 other people wanting to play and I realize that my play directly interacts with those people. Sorry about the lingo. I have pretty thick skin at my age and rarely type in chat unless its to point out an objective or threat that can't be pinged. This is by far the hardest game I have ever tackled between the minimap, farming, and not dying. So blind is what I should be playing until I am comfortable and past 30?
*hug* My advice would be to never be afraid to stay away from the game for a bit if it's no longer fun. The reason you're playing is for *you,* friends or teammates can probably play a few games without you. Just... You're here to have fun! If that's not happening- because sometimes the game is hard, the other team is better, people on your side don't click, someone loses internet, etc- it's okay, and you have every right to go do something that helps you calm down. Find out what puts you on tilt, and then find out what can bring you out of it. Keep that second thing nearby- I like to snuggle my dogs. <3 And *everybody* loses games; that will never change no matter how good you get. It's how you keep going afterward that makes the difference! =)

I will never understand why people think this behavior is exclusive to League. Yes, but on a level this common where it happens nearly every game? That seems very exclusive to League. Does it happen in Overwatch? Yes. but it's very rare, because there's a monetary incentive to not be a jerk to every single person in the community, namely, $40 for standard, or $60, and no one wants to waste $60 just to be a jerk to others. Does it happen in Dota? Yes, but from my experience, it's pretty rare, except for ranked, which, I never played ranked in there because I knew that it would be exactly like playing League in Normals or ARAM. Does it happen in Smite? I haven't seen it in Smite tbh, I only see bots pretty much. It has never happened in Heroes from my experience, and I know for sure that I've spent at minimum, at least 300 hours on there because my friend and I would play it every single day during the summer. So, yes, what you said was true: This kind of chatbox is common in pretty much any online competitive game, but it's not typical like on the level of League typical, where it's very common to see this kind of chatbox in the game.
Takazaki (NA)
: you're implying that your sense of humor is correct do you know what a subjective topic is? because that's a subjective topic you can claim moral high ground all you want, no one will stop you there as you're objectively right. but that doesn't make anyone else wrong. edit: this is what I'm referring to. >If you can't find humor in this life without someone else's pain, then something's wrong. I hope that's never a place you find yourself. =) If you understand what a joke is, take it as just that a joke. people can get offended. in cases of PTSD yes, it **is** harmful, but that is not enough reasoning to convince anyone to stop because not everyone has PTSD.
Yes, not everyone has PTSD. (Thank goodness!) However, I would argue that the harm is profound enough in this case to merit some effort even from people who aren't directly affected. Besides, I personally don't think that the argument "I don't have the problem" merits ignoring an issue or not taking action. I don't have diabetes, but I'll happily give to diabetes research. I don't use every road in my town, but I still think they should be paved and maintained. My house isn't currently on fire, but I think having a municipal fire department is a fine idea. Anyway, isn't this a community? Even if our only commonality is an online game, aren't we supposed to band together to support and protect one another, especially against a common enemy like toxicity or downright mean players? I should think that not making jokes about a few sensitive topics on the Rift would make it more pleasant for a lot of people! We might even have FUN playing League! ... Yeah, I guess that last bit was a little far-fetched. =p
: Eh. It's more like they're saying they're destroying the crap out of you in game, then saying anything to do with actual rape.
Well, the original context of the word doesn't vanish when it becomes a colloquialism, and simply seeing people treat it so casually hurts for me. *shrug* It might be impossible to understand my perspective without experiencing it, but I honestly hope that you never go through that. I'd rather be misunderstood than have you be raped.
Takazaki (NA)
: i dont think you understand what a joke is. jokes can be offensive, but if all satire was in good taste comedy would be dead. just today coworker: im going to buy a gun me: why? coworker: because what happened in vegas is damn well going to stay in vegas This is litterally poking fun of the largest mass shooting in american history. dont get me **started** on good ol hughy
I understand what a joke is. I have a collection of really lame ones (I could give Phreak competition for lame puns.) I can appreciate the wit inherent in the construction of a play on words or a pun without thinking that it's worth repeating or even deserving of a chortle, *especially* if it's actively hurting other people. If you can't find humor in this life without someone else's pain, then something's wrong. I hope that's never a place you find yourself. =)
: I still use them, but not in mixed company.
Well, may I respectfully ask what you consider 'mixed' company? My first thought is that you're referring to the presence of females, but men can absolutely be raped too. =/
: STOP THE FREAKING RAPE JOKES
And the post itself has nine downvotes. Hmm... Is that just because I'm mostly preaching to the choir, or is that the trolls surfacing? The world may never know. *shrug*
: i have not seen or made one, you forgot that option
Admittedly, my perspective is biased, but I see the problem as pretty prolific. And I did mention the poll was just for curiosity's sake. I suppose the thought process was to counter my bias by integrating other people's experience. Anecdotal evidence is better than no evidence, right? =)
: Yeah. Those kind of jokes are lowbrow imo, the bottom of the barrel in humor. Thing is you're mostly preaching to the choir.
I get that, and I knew it when I wrote this. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest, and the validation from other thinking humans does make things feel a bit better. =)

: @Riot - The SG Ahri Animation, the stories...
I'm not sure how well the TV show idea would mesh with Rito's current experience/workload. I know I WOULD WATCH THE HELL OUT OF IT. More than anything, though, I just wanted to gush about how they're really NAILING the Magical Girl theme. <3 The friendships, characterizations, internal conflicts, lore, henshin sequences, costumes, powers... I can recognize all the elements of the Sailor Moon that I was raised on! The stories and the trailers are really managing to balance the bright optimism of youthful characters and lofty ideals with the dark threat of too much responsibility, overwhelming odds, and the risk of losing *everything* the girl (or Ezreal) holds dear. The art is gorgeous, their choices for the Star Guardians have been kind of surprising a couple times but they make it so fitting that I stop giving the picks a second thought. The familiars and weapons all feel right within the aesthetic. Just... They managed to take the Magical Girl shojou vibe and make it so completely their own. I love it. I love it so much that I'm having a full fangirl spaz attack. It's like my childhood and my more recent loves have combined to make a gift just for me. <3 Thank you, Rito. <3<3<3<3<3 PS. Take my money!

: Is it because your waifu had a boyfriend that she genuinely loved, and she allowed him to paint a flower on her while she was naked?
I've got mixed feelings about them changing her origin. Originally, Ahri was born a fox and felt like the body was never a good fit, consumed the essence of a dying mage, and became the waifu that we love. Now she was born a vastayan, and abandoned by her parents with a MacGuffin that _might_ lead her to answers now that she's all growed up? O.o; I don't feel like the Vastaya introduction necessitated a change in her birth or how she came by this form. The original Vastaya notes by [that Piltover idiot whose name I can't remember] indicated that some Vastaya heritage had been watered down to the point that the bearer couldn't take a chimeric animal form. Couldn't it have been the other way around; a Vastaya trapped in a normal-looking animal's body until magic awakened that spark? Bah. I'll get used to it. The Garden of Forgetting was a glorious addition, and they maintain Ahri's central character conflict in that she _needs_ to devour other lives, and yet she has a human conscience that burdens her for doing so. It's that moral tug-of-war that makes her interesting, so as long as Riot is smart enough to not abandon it, she'll still be a fascinating creature!

: Garden of Forgetting, One of the most beautiful lore updates in a long time.
Omg. I had tears welling in my eyes (managed not to properly cry, but only barely.) _This_ is why I could never give up League; they way Riot fills in and develops such a gloriously rich world, the nuance and shades of grey that they've been adding... Thank you, Riot, so much! <3

: Blood Moon Ahri Skin!
I really want to see a Blood Moon Ahri skin now to coincide with the new game mode, although I might prefer a couple different ideas to what's in this fanart. (Keep in mind, this is just my opinion and I could totally just be stupid! Also, if I've gotten the details of the Asian garments wrong, please correct me.) 1: I'd actually kind of like Ahri's mask to be a plain, almost Noh-like mask with some pretty-but-nondescript female features. Especially considering the way she used to consume people, she already _is_ a beast or a demon; shouldn't her mask reflect what she would be transforming into? Then, when/if she takes her mask off, it'd be fun if she had really dark and dramatic makeup, similar to Diana's default. I'm personally not a fan of the dripping blood. 2: A couple of her costumes take bits and pieces from several Asian cultures- Dynasty looks very Korean, whereas her default skin has kind of a kimono feel to it with the sleeves and the way her robe is wrapped. The fan-art above has a very definitive priestess kimono/hakama, which definitely fits the color theme, but I guess I just wonder if something different might fit. 3: I might just be too much of an Okami fan, but wouldn't it be cool if the tips of her tails were bloody red, as though they'd been dipped in ink (or something else)? I feel the compulsive urge to brainstorm/doodle, so I might come up with more ideas. XD
: Academy Adventures
Uhh... Does Ahri really have the right to chastise Ekko for not paying attention? Just like in her splash art, she's got her phone IN HER HAND. And... Is that Pokemon Go?

I strongly recommend ensuring your local network settings are 100% compatible with League by working through our [connection guide.](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752664-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues) Let me know if those steps helped.
Thank you so much; I'm sorry I didn't get this suggestion until now. I ended up just completely uninstalling/reinstalling. I still have an issue where my client will DC from the server if I'm not doing anything for too long- waiting for my friends to invite more people to queue, bio break, etc., but I do have two jobs atm and I don't have the time/attention span to try to repair the source of those. Still getting the exact same error message. I'm repairing a second time, because I don't have any other bright ideas.

: Bring Back Kindred's heal {{champion:203}}
I really miss that W passive for jungling, but I can understand how it might have made things less fair in team fights. I wonder if they should restore it on minions/neutrals and just scale back the healing Kindred gets from hitting other champs?
: When you harass Gnar a bit too much...
I have been the Lissandra (or the Ahri) who forgot that the little Yordle you're picking on will get BIG if you poke too much. It hurt. I learned my lesson.
: There is someting suspiciously Ackbarian about this question, but I'm gonna dive in anyway because I've loved being a part of the League community these last four years and I wish we could shed the terrible reputation that's built up from having a hyper-competitive crowd doing battle in an intense, skill-defined arena. I play almost exclusively solo, and I've made literally hundreds of friends over the years through playing ranked. There are trolls, AFKers, and folks who haven't quite mastered the nuances of the language yet, but whether I'm playing on my red name or a smurf, I've found them to be relatively far between (although not always few). I had a rough game a few years back and had a guy get so upset with me that he called me out on the forums, and despite having done none of the things he accused me of, I still felt like an asshole because I'd ruined his game by playing so poorly. Most of the time, when someone is "feeding," they just got beat. It blows, and they probably won't admit it, but that's what happened. If someone wants to talk shit, I think there's a level of trash talk we've all decided is okay and a line that some folks still want to cross. From the live events I've attended to the meetups where I've met other players, the League community has always been awesome, and even the roughest edges often represent people who've invested hundreds of hours into the game, mastering their champions and grinding the ladder. Just because they get passionate sometimes, doesn't mean they're negative Nancy all the time, and it doesn't mean we're part of the "worst community on the planet."
This made me cheer. By and large, I was more miserable playing DoTA 2 than I have ever been playing League.

Leave it dead, this game is no fun to play without at least one other person you know. All you get when you go solo is ragers, trolls, or worse. {{sticker:slayer-jinx-unamused}}
I almost always have an awful time if I don't play with someone I know, so I am right there with you! Do they have to be mutually exclusive, though? Couldn't Dynamic queue stay and Solo eventually be added for those who insist upon picking it? Alas, I'm sure there are several technical aspects that are flying right over my head; feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
: I am so completely disappointed with League right now. Toxic players flood the servers and lane calling isn't even a thing anymore. So my question is, what advice do you have for toxic players that make you just want to completely quit league and never pick it up again. Edit: I really do think about quiting League because everyone is so mean... I don't want to because it's so fun, but I can't take the emotional drain from the games that are supposed to help me escape from the stress of life. League makes me CRY at least twice a day, always because the people on here are ruthless.
: Starting with Mantine17's question: I main Nasus, really, although I've never been great about sticking to one champ during the climb. I've tried to cut down to three or four this year though. As for lore, my absolute favorite part of the League world (even after the Great Retcon--which I personally see as more of a comic-book style reset of canon for a new series) is the characters who populate it. I don't have a favorite champion, lore-wise, because somehow, impossibly, this eclectic assemblage of personalities hits nearly every note I'm looking for when I'm searching out characters to empathize with. One really neat thing that I think narrative folks like the Foundations team does is to isolate and accentuate traditional tropes, but then put a uniquely League spin on them. It's fresh at the same time that it's familiar, and that does a great job of getting me engrossed in the story. I read everything as often as I could. When my mom and I would go shopping when I was really young and had to tag along, she would grab one of my beltloops with her finger and guide me around the mall while my face was nose deep in one book or another. There's even a good chance my poor eyesight came about thanks to my insistence on reading long after the lights went out. When we moved and I couldn't get away with a flashlight under the blanket (because my new room was adjacent to my mom's) I started reading in the dark, forcing my eyes to squint and take in every last iota of small midwestern city light squeaking through the window so that I could finish "just one more chapter." One more story, because you definitely aren't projecting: when I was in sixth grade, I got detention from a teacher who otherwise liked me, because I finished a reading test in a little less than 10 minutes (was supposed to take the whole hour) and I turned it facedown like I was supposed to and started devouring one of the books I always carried around with me. He couldn't believe I was done and thought I was being impertinent by reading when I was supposed to be taking a test. Books are awesome.
Omg! I had something eerily similar happen to me in 7th grade! It was in typing class- because my school actually had that, and I am still a decently rapid typist to this day (somewhere in the neighborhood of seventy words per minute when I'm really steaming along). I finished my assignment, deposited it in the correct receptacle, and then whipped out one of my favorite books at the time. Suddenly the novel was yanked out of my hands and my teacher was chastising me for both disrespecting her and ignoring my assigned work. Pretty sure I gave her a mutinous glare as I pointed out that my assignment had been submitted as finished. AIN'T NOBODY JUST GONNA SNATCH MY BOOK AND GET AWAY WITH IT. So, what do your personal non-canon scribbles tend to be about? Need a proofreader? =3
: Order of the Lotus Ahri Concept
This is GORGEOUS, I want it, and I'm following you on DeviantArt now. =)
: NO Theivianart picture will ever be fitting for anything. Sorry, but it's true.
Who cares where it's hosted? Give the artist credit for their lovely work. That's all anyone's asking here.
: Who do you main in solo q Also, who is your favorite champion lore-wise
I am also eager to see the lore question answered! =) Do you ever wish you were on the Foundations team helping build the world and fleshing out aforementioned lore? Also, I picture you as being a voracious reader as a kid. Sort of an 'I got into trouble for sneaking books to recess' sort of character. Am I wrong? (I could just be projecting. Freud is even offering me a cigar.)

: Xenomorph Zyra
Pls, Rito, no. I want to sleep again at some point. ;_;

: This reminds me of a Twitch I fought some time ago. We had just won a teamfight and where doing dragon. All five of us. The Twitch wasn't even very fed, but as we where doing dragon, he unlstealthed, and unleashed his ultimate. Because is is a penetrating AA, he did a massive amount of damage to all of us, and we died. He got a Pentakill.
I guess you could say you... _sunglasses_ didn't see that coming. **YEEEAAAHHH!!!** (I wanted to come up with a better pun to invoke that particular meme, but after sitting here for 5 minutes I've still got nothing. Feel free to improve upon my lowly offering!)
