: Breaking news: Champion with barely 80 seconds of dialogue repeats the same lines a lot in a 35 minute game. Ever played Veigar or Jax? Also I never mentioned any of the four lines you quoted; talking solely about the "This battle will be my masterpiece", and his taunts to Tryndamere, etc. Why does new Aatrox have 0 interactions with Tryndamere now? That's lame. old Aatrox was also tied to Jax, Noxus and Demacia's feud (possibly) ... and there's no reason to *throw away* the old to *add* the new. You can have *both*, and thats what I wanted. also I want his old E, as awful as it was its better than half a vayne tumble that gives AD for 0.75 seconds.

I feel like everybody brings up the same three lines when talking about how great the old Aatrox was, but personally, I see a lot of better lines in new Aatrox. His long movement lines sound so good when you're just walking back to lane and listening to what's going on with him. People seem to think new Aatrox is just "BIG SCREAMY MAN ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG", which I thought at first too, but once you actually play him for a bit, you can see that a _ton_ of his lines are actually quite solemn. Heck, just go to the League wiki and search Aatrox/Quotes. "Once in noble battle, I screamed against the silence. I stood as light against the darkness. Now, I serve a new master... oblivion..." "They will call me villain... Come, let me earn their hatred, again and forever." "I touched the stars, and saw the glorious light of a thousand suns! Now, blinded by this elegance, how could my purpose be anything... but dark..." "No beast so fierce, but knows some touch of pity... But I know none... and therefore am no beast. (Laughs)" For me, when I tried to play old Aatrox a few times, he was basically just this weird guy who repeated the same lines over and over again in this weird fish bowl voice. New Aatrox's lines will certainly stick with me longer than: "Violence is elegance." "Peace is the greatest lie of all." "True warriors are born in blood." and the variations of "Fight and be remembered as..." I get the whole thing about not wanting the old Aatrox gone; I get it. But Old Aatrox wasn't some objectively better masterpiece of a character; he wasn't even really much of a character. He also didn't really fit into the lore well, except for his relationship with Tryndamere. But this new Aatrox actually helps solidify what the Darkin are and places them in the world of Runeterra quite well. A few things that I've got to agree with you on: Why is Aatrox Russian? Like, he's from Shurima, and we know what Shurimans sound like... And they don't sound Russian. So, uh... Why tf does he have the accent? Also, it'd be neat to see that whole behind-the-scenes warmonger concept get expanded upon. Something better designed in this current age of LoL lore. Might be able to fit as well, but I think Riot's narrative team could definitely do it.

: Ooh, D&D. D&D's long since had rules for sentient weapons. Invariably, the majority of them want to take control of the character for their own purposes - very much like Darkin. Wonder where Riot got that idea... In terms of overall DM advice, Darkin weapons shouldn't be used by the players casually. I'd advise against it totally, as part of the Darkin fantasy involves taking control from their host, which you can't do to a player character without royally pissing off the player. If you want one of them - and I mean ONE of them - to use one, make sure it takes a decent quest to even find such a thing. Don't let it be easy either; since the Darkin prefer strong hosts, the most likely result is that the only way you'll get their weapon is prying it from their current host's dead hands, which should be enough of a warning sign right there that this is a bad idea. In terms of preparation, stat out the Darkin first. Use some of the higher level demons and devils as a starting point for the Darkin's stat block. Give it some unique abilities pertaining to its nature - a feline Darkin sealed in a pair of wicked cat claws should have a matching set of abilities that encourage its sneakiness, agility, and quick bursts of ferocity. You'll use that stat block if the Darkin ever takes over the host. Those abilities, though? The wielder should be able to invoke those abilities if they're wielding the weapon long enough. You can figure out whatever corruption mechanic you want to unlock those abilities. You know your players better than I do. What's important, though, is that you give your Darkin a good character. As far as they're concerned, if they're being used by your party, they are essentially a party member. Certainly not a friendly one, but they're with the party anyways. Play this up as much as possible - weigh in on everything, keep trying to tempt the user to go a bit farther, play off their social interactions and vulnerabilities. Even though it's thematic, don't try to take control from the character unless the player is cool with it. If you want, you can have increasingly more difficult Wisdom saving throws if you're doing something the Darkin disagrees with - not ripping out a fallen enemy's throat, for instance - but that gets somewhat obnoxious. It's definitely one of those things where I can't help you mediate actions with players you're more familiar with than me. Do emphasize that if the Darkin takes over, though - either because that corruption meter hit max, or because the player finally gave in, or whatever the hell - that's the end of the character. Evil PCs mesh poorly with most campaigns and parties and generally go against the structure of the game, and giving in to corruption isn't something that should be a main goal. Besides, at that point the PC can no longer take any actions of their own free will - the Darkin's got full control. It's a bit more vague than I would have liked, but I hope this helps a bit.

Yeah, my main idea is to not even let the players get a sniff of a Darkin weapon until they actually know what the weapons are and go on a quest to actually stop a Darkin, learning what kind of carnage these things can cause. I want to help the players understand that _these things are bad._ But I also want the weapons to be touchable because I don't like taking player agency from them. If they somehow go through *all* of that shit, and decide "I can handle this", I'll go ahead and let them. I'll make sure they understand what the consequences would be before hand, too. It'd most definitely have to be in the higher level parts of things. As for the Darkin stats, Demons and Devils sound like a pretty rad starting point. I'll definitely see what sorts of things I could do with those. One thing I haven't thought about is the Darkin as a party member. Apparently, they can talk to multiple people at once, if Kayn's color story means anything. That'd actually be pretty interesting to see them interact with one. I mean, they are fucking crazy psycho murder weapons, but Rhaast can be a witty fucking crazy psycho murder weapon as well. Thanks for the tips, mate!

Cuz the only reason I could see a reason for you needing to tell him it's not true is if he were trying to actually pass it off as true, which it is obvious to most people (I say most, because it's apparently not obvious to you) that he's not trying to pass it off as true. : Just asking a question, so please don't jump at my throat. Isn't the playrate of a champion relevant when talking about winrates? Ahri and Graves are the only ones with high winrate/playrate and they have dashes. Also the champs at the bottom have a much higher skillcap and playrate so their winrate will always be around 50% 51% if not they're broken. All the champs in the list have a simple kit, (maybe not Aurelion) low playrates and maybe dedicated mains who are winning a lot.

: I agree with you. Like I said earlier, I've done it to, it's a guilty pleasure that you know is wrong, and at the end of it, I don't think it's right. But, to add some insight into the mentality. Alot of people who perform terribly, refuse to take any responsibility. They say some really zaney stuff, lie, and are just frustrating in their communication. It's those types of people, who are clearly delusional and immature, that feel sooo good to put a bit of squeeze on after they've made sure no matter how hard or well I try, winning is not possible.

This thread is 7 months old. I have no idea the context for what you're talking about, tbh
: He sounds pathetic and obnoxious to me. The same way you feel for a "Nice guy villain". He's not supposted to be nice. His motivation used to be to reveal the monsters in men. For them to witness truth by their own hands - the atrocities they are capable of. And it's not about the lines really. This comic relief, goofy Disney Dracula is not intimidating, not relatable and will never be anyone i will take seriously. He just looks like some random moron to me thinking he's the greatest. Even Syndra sounds more intimidating because her voice reeks of misplaced confidence. A power that she cannot control. Always talking about how in balance she is, when she is only talking to herself.

Even Syndra sounds more intimidating because her voice reeks of misplaced confidence. A power that she cannot control. Always talking about how in balance she is, when she is only talking to herself. You also have to keep in mind that most of his goofy lines are attached to taunts, so you're not going to hear those the most, unless you're the kind of player to spam taunts and jokes. His best lines imo, are the movement and long movement ones, and those are the ones you'll hear the most. The worst ones to me are some of the ones attached to the first encounters, but even then, they ARE first encounters, so you'd only hear them once. The way they are said come off as poorly articulated, and the voice actor doesn't really sound all that great when he says them. One example: "A troll king?! Come! Defend you throne, king of trolls." Sounds really redundant and dumb. But, like I said, the dumb ones are attached to First Encounters, Taunts, and Jokes. As for old Aatrox, he wasn't really all that interesting, imo. Even some of his best lines that people bring up like, "Rage against the dying light" doesn't sound all that special when compared to New Aatrox's lines. He also felt really one note. Very similar to Syndra in a way. Syndra is constantly spouting about her ULTIMATE POWER, while Old Aatrox just talked about how men should fight, because that's what men do. There were no other facets to him. Just war. New Aatrox other facets to his character. Despair, a need for purpose, confidence in battle, and of course, a need for vengeance. I agree, neither of them are supposed to be nice guys. What you get when you see new Aatrox is a sense of sadness akin to pity. And I think that's really cool. Also, where'd you get the idea that he thinks he's the greatest? He has a bunch of lines talking about how he hates his current state and form. This "cursed flesh" as he puts it.
: Now imagine if that kind of emotion was used in conjunction with the previous Aatrox VO. It would be far more impactful.
> [{quoted}](name=LightTrack,realm=EUW,application-id=6kFXYs1kR,discussion-id=Ve2dlI4N,comment-id=000c,timestamp=2018-06-15T10:42:01.096+0000) > > Now imagine if that kind of emotion was used in conjunction with the previous Aatrox VO. It would be far more impactful. This new Aatrox, in terms of VO has higher highs, and lower lows. I feel his best lines are way above anything that old Aatrox said, in terms of lines, while his worst lines are just... some of the worst writing I've ever heard. Old Aatrox's VO felt very monotone in voice, and it just fell flat on me. I feel that if they replaced the worst lines, it'd be a phenomenal VO. Not likely to happen, but still.
JCPANDIT (OCE)
: His lines inspire pity from me - to others, he rubs his immortality in their face. To himself, he actually seems to resent his immortality, at times. But I’m confused by his goal. Once he kills everything off... then what? He’s bored. He’s assumedly stuck on Runeterra. He’s created a new kind of prison for himself.

He’s created a new kind of prison for himself. "I will have silence." "I march towards death... Though I wish it were my own." When all is said and done, he just wants everything dead. This includes even himself. He's already resigned himself to being stuck in this form. He's never going to be free, until everything has ended. He cares not for what happens after his goal is complete, he's only concerned about bringing about silence. He's completely mad.
