You are a little bit out of the loop then. Next year they are franchising, aka whoever offers the most money whether it be up front or over time from viewership gets in. They do respect the teams they already have, but in reality there are 100 more offers that can replace them if the team doesn't offer enough. Promotion/relegation tournaments won't exist next season. There will essentially be a minor (academy) league and a major (LCS) league. Teams cannot cross-over the league borders, but they may have subsidiaries in both.

: Immortals will not be in the NA LCS
Im a little bit surprised here. I thought in order to stay in the NALCS one has to perform and remain as one of the better teams in the league? This makes it look like its all about the money tbh. Immortals kicked out because rito is afraid of viewership heading to overwatch, and echo fox has to pay a ridiculous amount of 10 million to buy in? I'm sorry but, if you decide to kick out a team, shouldn't that spot be replaced by the next great team from the promotion tournament? I have never seen this side of rito before.

: Didn't they win worlds one year? I'd say that's accomplishing something at worlds.
No they didn't. Besides the Korean teams and fnatic, the only other team to have won worlds is taipei assassins which I believe is from Taiwan, not china. I think people put lms high because of uzi and his team RNG. Which has actually made it to the finals(more than once(Unsure). Uzi being the winner of the 1v1 tournament in allstar last year. On my record he has always been top 3 adc in the world.
: I expected them to be 3rd. Chinese teams tend to poorly internationally. NA and EU get a lot of hate regarding how bad they tend to do but the Chinese teams despite sometimes having 3+ koreans don't do any better. In fact, they under perform a lot. So i expected them not to do as good C9 too also tends to do the best of all NA teams in worlds. AHQ also tends to show up on worlds.
EDG did well last year, atleast made it out of groups. And RNG almost always makes it to semi finals. Team WE was but the only team I expected to not perform off the Chinese
: I placed EDG as second
Me too, this is a big surprise to me
MysterQ (NA)
: I have Misfits at two. They may still fail me, but why would everyone place EUs number 2 (sorry G2 group of death) so low. I mean sure they don't look as good as everyone else, but I think too many people discounted them. EDG as 3rd is probably super common. NA fans want C9 in it, so they have to drop someone and obviously won't drop SKT. Now EDG at 4th would be an amazing call (although they can likely get 3rd).
But but... they beat RNG in playoffs and here is RNG performing well but not EDG? I can see the third place being common tho, although I'd expect them as second
: I put them in 4th. I have not watched pro play this season so have *no* idea where anyone except SKT is expected to place; I suppose my ignorance helped my decision? https://i.gyazo.com/ee4d9cf9eed4fb4d49e99f26b0c86c9e.png
Cheers to you my friend I need some of that ignorance :D

: My pick-em's logic went something like this: A: SKT, EDG, C9, AHQ - appears like a standard group with a possibility of C9 leapfrogging EDG for second. From what I hear AHQ doesn't look all that good and they're the only team I haven't watched this year. B: LZ, FNC, GAM, IMT - other than LZ at first, this one could end up being totally different. GAM is good at BO1s and FNC is FNC. You never really know what you're gonna get with them. If they pop off they take 2nd easily. I'm not sure how IMT will perform on the big stage. They looked really good in NALCS, but this is totally different. Like I said, this group is muddy. C: SSG, G2, RNG, FB - for me it's a battle for 2nd. There's a distinct possibility that the top 3 teams can all play well and take games off one another, but it's hard to bet against Koreans. FB are likely to go 0-6 unless someone completely disrespects them. This group is all about who is most consistent. G2, I'm looking at you. Don't fail ... again. D: WE, FW, TSM, MSF - this one is probably the hardest to predict. WE didn't look as dominant in play-ins as expected. It's to be determined whether that's a sign of things to come, or whether they were just warming up. FW is very unpredictable and I think the group shapes up according to how they perform. I was tempted to give TSM the benefit of the doubt, but that came back to bite me last year when I picked them to top their group. The problem I have with TSM is that they don't seem to have another gear. They go hard all the time and what you see is what you get. I think other teams have an easier time preparing for them. Speaking of, preparation is what MSF does really well. I think them being overlooked plays into their hands. I'm looking at this group and see TSM splitting with FW and MSF and losing both games to WE, while FW splits with all 3 teams to edge TSM for second. Or it could be another tie breaker scenario for second. I seriously wouldn't be surprised with any way this group ended up. So, yeah, don't have a lot of expectations for NA teams, but at least I won't be as disappointed if/when they don't do anything.
great analysis, I've reasoned the same way about WE and originally placed them as an underperformer for this worlds but, I've come to realize that they are a very consistent team in comparison to the others and so I'm also placing them first now. FW I must also agree. This team is like wtf. Generally does well during worlds but has had problems (apparently) during the the split, although I've not watched them play. I think they can either show up or finish last. I guess it all comes down to bo1 like you said, and anything can happen. If TSM is smart they will prep with a surprise move and explosive wins for each game, but they would need to have something down their sleeve for every game. This is not exactly what TSM normally does. Like you said, what you see is what you get. Couldn't be more true about this team. I guess the question is, are FW and MSF better at bo1 than TSM? this isn't na lcs where slow, coordinated games matter as much as having the element of surprise. This is something that definitely is worrysome. generally agree with you on group A and B. curious on group C. Although we expect G2 to show up, are you sure that they can best RNG? Looking back at LPL playoff. all games involved WE, EDG, and RNG were won 3-2, and so I think that they are all really strong and even teams. Just a thought.

oh that's cool, you went with immortals on group B for 2'nd. I thought Gigabyte was better than 4'th place? they not performing this year?

: Petition to add a Resolve rune that lets tanks PROTECT towers.
Sounds like a great idea, and I hate tissue paper btw. My only concern is that tanks are usually the ones to survive lost teamfights, and so they will also be the ones to single handedly protect inhib towers? Just a thought. Id rather see the demolish rune gone. I dont like the idea that runes are focused around towers, when it should be strictly the champion (my opinion).
: In hindsight, knowing CLG's counter-logical record when it comes to facing IWC teams, as well as G2-8's 2016 MSI performance, Albus Nox Luna making it to the bracket isn't that much of a stretch. But that's all hindsight. Most people weren't predicting G2 to pull a TSM or ANX to take a game off ROX. I would look to C9 (whom I am predicting to upset EDG) and LMS teams (who haven't made a splash since MSI 2016). Maybe Gigabyte over Immortals, because I really like GAM and Levi, but who knows? On a vaguely related note, I was thankful that C9 beat CLG in the gauntlet, because CLG would've lost to all those IWC teams.

Yes, I feel the same. C9 plays with a heart at worlds and always has a surprise in their pocket at group stage. Overall they look great this year although coming from the play-ins.

: You saying this shows that you have clearly not watched any LMS games and/or haven't watched misfits that closely. In the case of FW, like 90% of their early game was decided by swordart as karsa's ganks were weird to say the least (I have vivid memories of one he did with gragas where he did an entire loop around the enemy's blueside jungle getting spotted by 3 wards in the process, only to then flash/bodyslam and die under the enemy's t2 tower). With misfits, they oftentimes like to play more of a controlled style anyways so I can very easily see WE go a bit unpunished unless they shift things drastically. Also, TSM ganking early? Are you sure? Unless sven gets his hands on lee sin, I can very easily see them focusing more on the whole "win lane win game" approach that they've done for most of the year, with the occassional gank toplane should sven not be dying to condi near WE's inhibs. Literally the only way TSM stands a chance vs them is if they focus entirely early game, as if they're ever even in a teamfight then they're sorta all dead.
I agree that TSM has been inconsistent this year but they finished strong in playoffs. And yes sven might be a problem in their early game execution, especially against condi. I guess I just remain hopeful that they will do their homework this year. You are right, I have not been watching much of the LMS and FW could potentially flop.
: Well I just did the same as I did last year: [wing it!](http://pickem.lolesports.com/share/series/4/user/36421/my-picks) And then hope I don't need the 34 Points that badly by Knockout Stage. I'm not going for a perfect.
Thats what I'm saying, I dont think this year is going to be that easy on the predictions because teams look really good this year and meta allows for snowballing and faster games. I got my 34 points last 2 years but im struggling to put the pieces together this time.
: I decided to go super hard on my NA bias in my selections, and made picks based on the following predictions: 1) Everyone > EU. EU teams last, because I want G2-8 to lose spectacularly, and I don't think Fnatic or Misfits are very good. 2) China is sloppy and will fail to show up (like TSM). Despite this, I still have RNG and WE making the bracket. 3) TSM, for once, WILL show up and win their painfully weak group. If only because I am a masochist and enjoy disappointment from my eighth-favorite NA team. This extends to my hopes for Cloud9, and Immortals, who have a 2nd-placeable group. 4) [H2-What? H2Korean teams in finals](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw2sHt0YWik). Edit: My picks, as follows: A: SKT, C9, EDG, AHQ B: Longzhou, IMT, GAM, Fnatic C: Samsung, RNG, Fenerbahce, G2 D: TSM, WE, FW, Misfits I'm not convinced by 1907 over G2, that one is a bit of wishful thinking.
yeah similar to my previous predictions too. Remain hopeful with TSM, but put korean teams first :P Problem tho is that there is always upsets. Last year may have seemed like the easiest of predictions but then you had a wildcard making it out? I guess the question is: what team is going to make an upset this year?
: http://pickem.lolesports.com/share/series/4/user/288522/my-picks Coin toss for 2nd place in groups ABD, unsure about WE, but I really dont feel good about putting FW or TSM 1st
I feel confident in FW as they have a good world record, but when it comes to TSM? not a clue.. They always seem prepared and then they fail miserably at worlds.
Mye (NA)
: Really? I have'm placed first only because the rest of their group looks so massively underwhelming. Misfits are the third-best EU team in a region that hasn't really amazed anyone since the origen/fnatic days, FW are coming off of a split in which the entire region looked like one giant mess, and TSM is probably the luckiest team of all time as they not only avoided being stuck with any korean teams but also avoided ALL of the quality 2nd/3rd seed teams available. Out of that group, I have WE/TSM/FW/MSF in that order with my final two spots open to change should I get second thoughts about how bad the LMS looked this split.
team WE has maybe the perfect macro play and execution by the book but why I have them played 4'th is because they have no early game what so ever. They lack ganks to get them ahead (actually i think their strategy is to play it safe to mid game and then win). So in my opinion I think the other teams in the group, especially TSM will gank early, and roam more. This is what will break team WE. Not saying TSM will make it out of the group but they seem more adaptive to playstyles than team WE.

me too and they actually do have the better deal for us league players (unlimited for $30).
: Why are you giving EDG so much of a chance? They do this every year just like TSM and flop at Worlds. I'd say C9 has just as good of a shot as EDG of leaving that group. The only given is that SKT is getting out unless their starting lineup all contracts some crazy illness. It should be a very competitive group overall.
I must agree. on paper EDG is much better but world records C9 tend to play more with heart and usually do win couple of group stage games and sometimes even make it out.
Mye (NA)
: When in doubt pick china, as they technically have the 2nd-best worlds record of all regions.
True that but team WE doesn't look too convincing in my eyes(the rest do). I actually have team WE placed 4'th right now.

: You seriously think that C9>EDG or RNG?. I dont think they are even close. The only possible way for C9 to make it out of group would be impact. Letme and Mouse are the clear weak point in their team.
I'd say the only way C9 is making it out of groups is if they come up with another 1 trick pony strategy like last time :P

: Can people stop with the mentality that runes was some luxury that we "wasted our IP" on?
I dont care about the IP. I totally get why Riot cant refund 100% of the IP spent on runes, it would break the new system. What I do care about is not having my veteran account turned into a noob account because of the fact that I invested the IP on runes instead of champions. Over the years, one could had spent IP on several things but primarily either champions or runes. Why should I loose more than someone that spent all their IP on champions instead? they are both ways of collecting in game content. So, please give me free champions equal to that I spent on the runes, and keep the IP. Sounds fair to me. Your new system wont overflow on IP, and I wont have hours and hours of time turned into dust.
: I'm really wondering if people hound all game companies for free shit like they are doing Riot.
I'm a veteran player since season 2 and I'm not asking for a massive IP dump or a ton of skin chests, quite frankly I think Riot has been overly generous with free skins over the years. But it would be nice if I can have champion purchases equal to that I spent on runes, since it was a choice to spend it on runes instead of champions. Nobody knew that runes were leaving. I've invested so much on runes that I could own pretty much every champion in game. If I were to have spent my IP over the years on champions instead I would be far better off right now. So you tell me why its fair that MY decision to invest on runes should be rewarded any less than that of someone that spent the IP on champions instead? when in fact it could had been that all champions were made free instead of runes. : >Atleast champion purchases are permanent. In the words of Maokai: "...for now". But yeah, the ~28% refund really stings. 153799 IP, including runepage purchases, suddenly turned into 43700 IP/Blue essence/whatever. I am not pleased.
just the crit dmg rune set I bought costs 24-28k ip in total, and im getting 3,6k back? that doesnt sound right. thats less than 15% return... This rune set was never in the meta, but I bought it because it's fun on some champions and I use it to this day in normal games. I play the game for fun like everyone else. The fact that I am punished for investing my IP into runes and not champions is not cool. If you are going to force my hand and remove my runes, then atleast give me the fair trade over to champion purchases...
: Jesus fuck, are you fucking serious? I've played since season 2. I'm getting assfucked over my rune collection, and punished for not buying champs with my IP, when buying runes WAS NOT OPTIONAL. This is some fucking horseshit, right here.
I feel the same. There's been metas where certain runes such as lifesteal couldn't be played without. Yet there's only so many meta champions one wish to buy, I'd rather have the meta runes to go with fewer champions.

Wow that is bs and should be reportable. Whether you have 44% win ratio overall says noting about your most recent games. Also, this may yet be your best champion and banning it makes it even harder for the team to win the match(on top of being pissed of about it already-> underperforming) , I guess he wasn't thinking about that when he banned riven. What a douche. Sad part is that you are more likely than him to dodge the match too.

Same happened to me a while back. I was bursting through gold series in just a few weeks. I went from gold 5 to gold 2 and only one game away(in promo) from gold 1, then suddenly I was paired with afks, or extreme feeders, and I dropped right back to gold 5. I went on a literal 20 games loss streak and it wasn't explainable. I still played the same champs and I still got fed but it wouldn't matter... weird af if you ask me.
