: Nautilus lore - what's most important to you?
As someone who has not had an easy life, and was in a bad place when I first encountered Nautilus' lore back in 2012, what made me fall in love with him was simple: he was resigned to be **determined to live**. He doesn't necessarily want to live, or enjoy life, but he'll be damned if he surrenders to oblivion and sinks in the cold crush of the ocean. He can't. He won't. He needs to but he never will. I see my depression and my trauma and the things people have done to me in him. I see grim, basic conviction - I see the decision made, with every lumbering massive footstep, with every impossible swing of his anchor, with every underwater canyon forded, to _keep on going_. He won't stop. He will see the light; or, if not that, then he won't forget the dark is not the only thing in the world. He will take what has been done to him and what has been taken from him and he will survive. He's a little like Kai'sa in that regard, to me, but where Kai'sa has managed to turn her trauma into something she's conquered, Nautilus isn't there yet. He may never be there. But he still keeps going. There is intense resonance here for people living in dark times and with mental illness especially. His old lore was murky, like walking underwater in wan, tired light that reaches limply through the dark silt-curtained shallows. I don't think it was particularly interesting, or malleable, or good to bounce off other characters. But it was deeply, viscerally compelling, much like how old Galio resonated with his large theme of penance. I think a lot of the people who liked old Galio would like this aspect of Nautilus. He was someone who was wronged, and is perhaps - he wonders - more some_thing_, now, than a person. He has to grapple with being lessened by what happened to him, like anyone who has had to deal with major trauma. But still he keeps going. He will not stop. He will not be reduced even further, from that desperate basic conviction to_ keep going_. That may be all he has, but he _will_ keep walking in the dark no matter what. That's what's most important to me. That's what Nautilus is. I don't play him much anymore because I think his gameplay has not aged that well. But I will always love the lumbering titan consigned by people to the abyss, because though he can't see a way out - or a way back - he won't give up. All he can do is keep going. So he will. - The other thing for me, and this is something I'm more willing to chalk up to opinion, is that I think part of the appeal of Nautilus is the gravity he commands - and a key to that is staying a little bit at a distance. He's like a robot in Nier: Automata, or Darth Vader. We can know what he's thinking, but never really know what he's _thinking_. We can never quite touch his sadness entirely. I'd like to see him not... kept at arm's length, exactly, but given a little room. Given a little space to let us wonder. Perhaps a color story not from his perspective - someone instead **experiencing** (I use this word especially exactingly, because any encounter with Nautilus should be something you remember until you die, like Ashitaka seeing the Guardian of the Forest in Princess Mononoke - it's almost a religious experience, it should be so profound and moving) Nautilus, briefly and intensely. The kind of story you tell your adult child only once, on a quiet night when the memories won't leave you alone. - I've actually given Nautilus a lot of thought over the years (as I am both a big fan and a writer), so it's good to get this out. Please let me know if this was useful, and thank you for asking, and for listening. I appreciate it a lot. Regardless of which direction you take Nautilus, I expect I'll like him (even if end up sad he doesn't go the way I want), and I'm entirely confident he'll be a great character lots of people can love no matter what. League's writers have my confidence. Best wishes.

Can you tell me (unofficially of course) if you think that these skins are probably in the same aesthetic ballpark as a future Irelia VGU? i.e. are they similar to what you expect Irelia's new visuals and updated - and properly nuIonia - aesthetic would be? I would think that if nothing else it's at least a kind of benchmark of Ionian-ness, and would be on the team's mind when going at her in a future VGU.

: Will look into the possibility of doing a post about the more systemic changes. The largest issue with giving you guys an update now on this is that we are still in the process of figuring out exactly how to solve the systemic problems we're seeing. Either way we could do a post more about the problems themselves rather than any solutions.
Sweet, thanks. I think even that would be good

: Currently we are only planning on 3 big ones. WE really want to focus down on fewer updates to increase the overall quality of the updates. We likely won't do any small updates this time. The Tank update will be mostly about the systematic changes we are going to make to the whole class rather then the individual kit updates.
I think that given the lack of official release-communications that this is going to end up giving, you guys should consider doing a post about your plans for systemic changes. Any thoughts there/is this on your radar? There will, I promise, DEFINITELY be huge interest in something like that.
: Mid Season Tanks Update - Maokai
I disagree with the classification of Maokai as a primary Vanguard, so I am very glad you are taking pains to emphasize he leans toward a Warden also. His lore is about preserving specific areas and punishing what goes after them. He's a Vanguard in the sense he's more proactive, not that he goes in - he's about locking down to keep people OFF specific areas. Case in point, the story with the flower. That's my two cents at least, but I'm having trouble believing this line of argument wasn't raised in office. Has this come up? Are you considering this discrepancy in how you've moved forward? If so, how has it influenced your decision making process? I'm very curious, and slightly worried...

: The damage changes will be small, our goal is to reduce his burst potential but remain the prolong threat. I would say his laning will be approximately the same or slightly weaker and his wave clear will be approximately the same or slightly stronger (in lane). But late game his wave clear will be weaker mainly because we are not expecting him to build full damage at that point.{{item:3083}} {{item:3083}} {{item:3083}} {{item:3083}} {{item:3083}} {{item:3083}}
Okay, so, there's... a lot to be said, about this new Mordekaiser - and I think that it's all coming back to the ghost, largely. Mordekaiser needs his items before he can get going. This is true pre-changes, and I think it's still going to be *after* these changes are implemented. A lot has been said, and I do agree with it re: incentivizing people to attack the tank or get out of his way. As it is, you have to kill him or get him off you. The problem is, he has no way to get on you short of someone else's CC or a Rylai's. Which means that he has to have something to make up for that. (In my case, that will be Chilling Smite as I think this dude will be great for jungling now. :D) It all comes back to the ghost, imo, as the lynchpin of his power. And that's something that worries me aside from one thing in particular. > [{quoted}](name=RiotChun,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=5dmaUVNs,comment-id=,timestamp=2015-02-13T05:28:48.150+0000) > > Third, Mordekaiser's shield now works the same as Nunu's bloodboil (cast on an ally, Mordekaiser also gets the shield) and if they run toward each other, they'll gain a mini speed boost. Think magnets. > > Last, Mordekaiser's ghost will be more intuitive and clear in target selection. So Mordekaiser and his ghost no longer grant whacky stats from each other, but straightforward and intuitive stats: Mordekaiser now will gain health/ap from his ghost's bonus health and ability power, while Mordekaiser's stats will help the ghost scale up (but the type of ghost he grabs (ie: Mage / Marksmen / Tank) will have an impact on their performance). > I can't for the life of me understand why you think that he should be gaining health/AP off of another champion's AP. That just... makes no sense to me - I'd like it if you could explain the rationale behind it. The health to health, yes. I'm not sure how this is conducive to Mordekaiser's overall impact, though? This all hinges on the fight lasting that long, and Morde, as I see things (and I'm hoping my view is wrong) doesn't have enough to make it so he'll be focused during the fight. You could have even gone for health to damage or relative level, etc. As it is, this makes him decide between picking off APC or ADC, then using it to clean up a fight. That's the general impression I'm getting and I'm not sure how it's going to actually play out; in theory, though, I don't quite think it's going to work that well. EDIT: I do feel like I'm underestimating the amount of damage Mordekaiser will be outputting, quite honestly - I'll just have to wait and see how he is on the PBE before I can really make up my mind. A decent amount of my post is off the premise he doesn't have that much power >_< so that's what I get for writing at past 2 AM :P (The ADC bit, incidentally, is why I think this new Morde will be decent in the jungle. :D His clears should be wonderful with some attack speed reds, hybrid pen quints, flat ap blues and the usual armor yellows; mastery spec like Nidalee in the jungle should work wonderfully and then go magus/sunfire. Mobis for getting around, Chilling Smite to gank, and then the glorious ult. When you walk into botlane, smite and ult their ADC as your Graves walks on them and you kill them? That's four pushing a tower, and a dragon for sure. It's bloody glorious.)
: "I didn't see that VU coming." or Nobody Expects the ChampUP Inquisition!
I think Vayne could use another pass, tbh. You say that ChampUp wants to solidify something uniquely Demacian -and I think that's phenomanal. The thing is with Vayne, though, is that she's basically just Batwoman on a crusade against EEEEEVIIILL ; nothing about her model and textures makes any sense for a Demacian. So what I suggest is either 1.) Show how Vayne's hunt of the dark puts her at odds with typical Demacians and reflect that in her clothes -make her less Batwomany, and deconstruct the asthetic in her. 2.) Remove her from Demacia.

: What will happen with Nunu?
I would say that Nunu is much like Garen was when they gave him his VU this time last year; Low Risk, High Reward. He doesn't need any work done to make his kit cohesive with his theme, and he doesn't need that much work for most of his skins. The only thing that is stopping him from getting a VU for these reasons is because of his Nunu-Bot skin. Riot would most likely want to upgrade that to some degree (as they do with all champion skins on relaunch/VU's) but since it would be the first legendary skin they would update, it would set precedent on the matter, and that is something that Riot has to think over carefully before moving on it. I think that they aren't going to be giving him a VU at this time because they want to focus some more on other champions. Also, Nunu isn't very high on the priority list compared to someone like Sion, so there is always that stalling a VU.
