: Is Skarner gonna get any pre season love
Because all the mobility in the world doesn’t mean shit when he has no tenacity gap closers or decent innate tankiness
: Is Skarner gonna get any pre season love
How on earth is the tank you hardly builds ad ap or attack speed and doesn’t take offensive runes and doesn’t scale well with that mastery at all use it as a buff?
: Is Skarner gonna get any pre season love

: What if we make an "idea pool" for new runes as a community project?
I'd like a perk similar to the old adaptive armor mastery where 5% of your higher resistance stat was added as bonus to the lower stat. It made tank itemizing feel so much less wonky and unrewarding.
: How can so many champs be left as complete shit for so long

What the hell even is skarner anymore? Is this a joke? Now he's the only diver bar Olaf without a dash or leap with the weakest movement speed buff of the whole lot. There better be some work done on him soon. This is pathetic.
: Even with said "permaslow" he wasn't really a popular or high winrate jungler. Riot's choices just make no sense to me. They gutted the poor scorpion like three times and he didn't need the changes in the first place.

Riot's choices just make no sense to me. They gutted the poor scorpion like three times and he didn't need the changes in the first place. But he had stickiness and a cool identity and at least it was a fun mechanic. You're right tho, with every successive rework he becomes an ever further shadow of his original self. It's sad to see.
Profirix (NA)
: Trinity force for sure is the better item now. More movespeed, damage, and attack speed. Iceborne really isn't good anymore. Trinity force into Sterak's because Skarner has the highest base AD in the game (or at least he used to).
> [{quoted}](name=I Blame Adam,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=V1jUM1l3,comment-id=000100000001,timestamp=2017-05-22T19:27:55.650+0000) > > Trinity force for sure is the better item now. More movespeed, damage, and attack speed. Iceborne really isn't good anymore. Trinity force into Sterak's because Skarner has the highest base AD in the game (or at least he used to). Skarner sits at the 6th highest currently so not even close to first anymore :( he also didn't get more range or health in the juggernaut update and lost his stacking attack speed, nor does he lower his ability cooldowns with autos anymore, so it's not like he makes very good use of auto attacking anymore. Triforce is definitely better single item slot wise, no argument there, it gives him a lot of help fighting, but it leaves him so vulnerable and squishy, as well as it costs a metric fuck ton so it's feels pretty awful to buy in most situations.
: They ruined Skarner twice already. At this point they'd just be desecrating his corpse.

Had they released skarner more recently, people wouldn't even bat an eye about it being op, especially compared to champs like ekko and Camille.
: I'd argue Trinity Force is more of a core item than Iceborn Gauntlet. Moreover, the changes to Sterak's Gage were fantastic for Skarner. He already has really high base attack damage, and Sterak's Gage not only increases the damage of his Q, but also the damage of Sheen procs. With Trinity Force and Sterak's, he's an extremely powerful Juggernaut that can kill anything he can stick to. You're right about his durability. The health nerfs hit him hard, and resistances don't patch it up that well. When I play Skarner, I try to only play him when I have another dedicated tank on my team, so I can play the Juggernaut role and be a damage threat. Skarner works as a Juggernaut - that much is sure. He's very tanky, and is supposed to deal high damage to enemies he sticks to. He fits with the 'run you down' group of Juggernauts, alongside Udyr, Volibear, and Olaf. He does need another rework, but a few changes would go a long way. If he AA'd the target of his Impale, it would go miles in increasing his damage output. His shield could be given a flat value on it, so he's not so reliant on HP he's already built. Also, the 'charge' mechanic on his Q should be removed. No reason for it to deal half damage just because he hasn't hit anybody yet.
> [{quoted}](name=Crewx,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=V1jUM1l3,comment-id=0001,timestamp=2017-05-22T00:16:38.693+0000) > > I'd argue Trinity Force is more of a core item than Iceborn Gauntlet. > > Moreover, the changes to Sterak's Gage were fantastic for Skarner. Also, the 'charge' mechanic on his Q should be removed. No reason for it to deal half damage just because he hasn't hit anybody yet. Iceborn is THE Skarner item. It was supposed to be the remedy for his old permaslow (rip) that keeps him sticking to targets with a slow. I agree that triforce can be good, but that's only when you're snowballing. If you're just even or behind, then triforce is simply far too expensive and you won't be in a position where you need the damage since you need to be tanky as hell to get in and out of the enemy team to ult someone. Buying luxury stats like ad and attack speed aren't realistic nor are they helpful when he's behind, so I'd call triforce situational at best, not core. Sheen itself is core though. As for new steraks, you're right it might be worth the buy now, but you're also sacrificing a lot of gold for no resistances and damage that's not gonna help if you're behind at all so it's kinda risky. Buying a jungle item that only gives health (cinder) then going for something like triforce or steraks is a good way to get killed unless you're lucky enough to find some picks and snowball.

: Thought Experiment: What if Nautilus was the CC Juggernaut?
Wouldn't the difference between a tank and a juggernaut be mobility or cc, because juggernauts like skarner have lots of cc, whereas those like illaoi have none, so if naut was then on the immobile said by changing his q in some way, would this work?

: Hi, thanks for the post! And sorry for going silent on the matter. I have some stuff saved up and sitting locally on my machine. Maybe I can throw something up on the PBE following the worlds patch or something, but I don't want to disturb any of the end of season balance work going on. Hopefully I can get a chance to get it out there as we approach the pre-season patch, but either way, I'll try and give an update as to where it's at even if we decide not to.

: They didn't ditch it completely, they just aren't providing constant updates with the status of Skarner. We don't know if they are ditching it or not. In regards to feedback look how excited you got over them talking about this and using vague language about what they are looking at. Now imagine if they keep on working do updates but all the sudden things have to take a sharp turn or something they said that was a good idea and people got super hype for is cut. Then they have to deal with people who are raging. "A little feedback" is an incredibly complicated and dangerous thing when you are a company unless you already have an established pipeline and system for it.

Then they have to deal with people who are raging. "A little feedback" is an incredibly complicated and dangerous thing when you are a company unless you already have an established pipeline and system for it. Fair point. Constant updates isn't really what I was looking for with this post. I agree a little feedback can potentially be a dangerous tool. On the flip side it can also be used to give the community a say on what they want to see in a champion and keep them posted on status so that the community is informed. An informed community I suppose could be a double edged sword, as it had its benefits and drawbacks, like the outrage you spoke of. Either way though, I'd like to know what's happening with skarner and be it selfish or not, I feel I'm within my bounds to ask a couple questions about his status.

That is unfortunate. Thank you for the insight though.
: Considering the massive hate he retains for Skarner's passive, they're probably looking at how to re-do it, or whether or not they need to scrap it entirely. I don't mind them using a lot of time on him. If they made a massive red post about it, its on the table, for better or worse. Its coming. Hopefully they decide to scrap the passive. It does absolutely nothing for his role as a vanguard, and isn't effective in his role as a juggernaut; basically not effective for either of the roles Riot thought he might fill. All it does is make his early jungle do-able without him being insanely strong, which they could accomplish by making his Q deal bonus damage to monsters.
> [{quoted}](name=WoonStruck,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=y42HrUzn,comment-id=0003,timestamp=2016-07-31T21:52:22.731+0000) > > Considering the massive hate he retains for Skarner's passive, they're probably looking at how to re-do it, or whether or not they need to scrap it entirely. > > I don't mind them using a lot of time on him. I agree with you on all points, and I'd be more than happy if they'd take their sweet time on skarner and do him right for once. But in my opinion, the "near future" timeframe they were talking about has sufficiently passed, and it'd be nice for the community to get a little insight on what's happening to him.
: > It just sorta seems like they had these good intentions for him, told the community, then dropped it all together without a word to us skarner mains, and that's not very fair. Yeah because they have a lot of moving pieces that they need to deal with. They said that they were looking at him and are aware of his bad spot. If they suddenly do "super awesome open transparency" with Skarner mains then all the sudden all the other mains will start whining about their favorite champ isn't getting the same attention as Skarner. I don't think it's fair that you expect them to have infrastructure to support the rework of your champion over all others.
> [{quoted}](name=Tobias Brackner,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=y42HrUzn,comment-id=000100000001,timestamp=2016-07-31T21:42:49.130+0000) > > Yeah because they have a lot of moving pieces that they need to deal with. You're right, skarner certainly doesn't deserve any special treatment, however to make a big red post talking about the future direction of skarner and that changes will becoming in the near future, then just entirely ditch it without explanation isn't very fair either. No one is asking for super transparency, but a little feedback here and there isn't really too much to ask for.
: >not necessarily to fix skarner since he is pretty messed up right now, but rather to make his spires more of a skarner only experience that other players aren't forced into, and to make his stat profile match that of a vanguard or diver since they agreed forcing him to be a juggernaut was a mistake. Since none of that exactly constitutes "small work", it was pretty much a guarantee we weren't going to see it. > It just sorta seems like they had these good intentions for him, told the community, then dropped it all together without a word to us skarner mains, and that's not very fair. This was the only possible outcome. I wouldn't exactly call tweaking stats very big work. Especially if you have a designated role you want those stats to fit. In skarners case, upping his speed and maybe tankiness in exchange for damage if you want him to be a diver could be the right direction to take him. It's not intensive work in the slightest. The spires, however, I understand are a much more complex issue .
: > there may be some follow-up work we can do to clean up some of those issues, and we may try some small scope experimental stuff on the PBE to see how they feel. Note the word "may". That was a very important word. It's pretty likely that they just didn't find something good to implement. Skarner's design is kind of screwed in every which way right now. It's going to be hard to find any small change that would really improve things.

: Here's a post where you can ask questions about the stuff I've worked on, and I'll try to answer.
Why do you feel like shipping the Skarner rework was a good idea? As someone who has about 550 games with him and has now dropped Skarner completely, I feel very ripped off. I loved Skarner. From his theme to his lore to his abilities he was my favorite champion. But now after the rework, it doesn't even feel like I'm playing Skarner anymore. In my opinion, the reason he feels so lack luster is his passive. Not once since his rework have I actually had a teamfight in any of the zones. On top of that, the zones don't even feel all that powerful or useful for anything but farming. To me, the rework seems like a total letdown. Why does Skarner absolutely have to have these zones? They aren't impactful or healthy in any way.

This guy is really cool, and I dig the whole parasite theme. His kit seems really balanced and fun to play too! It would be cool if for his ult, since he takes damage as well from allies being hurt, enemies attacking the ally also receive stacks of provoke too. Just a thought.
