: Noxxy, I knew there was no chance, I knew they would pick nothing but Digital Art. The two Grand Prize winners DID have popularity vote. Not because they were good. But because of a meme. Not bitter at all about losing, I am bitter about all the really good artists being overlooked because everyone is a meme addict.
I looked at the first two linked and the emotions are not clearly conveyed at all so I'm not gonna waste my time looking at the others linked. * Teemo has a heart next to him but he's showing a deep in thought/focused face? * I don't know what Annie's conveyed emotion at all. That doesn't take away from the fact it's well drawn. It's just not meeting the expectations of the contest. You're really just proving my point as to why the winners + mentions were selected and these weren't.

: They have had contests before where the goal was to be creative, funny, whatever with art talent not being a stated factor to win, yet the best drawn entries are **always** the winners, even if they weren't that creative or funny. In the trinket comic contest years ago, I distinctly remember LilyPichu had won despite her comic not making sense. However, it was drawn well enough and cutesy, so it didn't matter. I looked it up for you to see for yourself: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/6d/58/64/6d58641775b9925c8128ccff47f811b1--legends.jpg I didn't enter this memotion contest because I don't have any art talent and I know how Riot chooses their winners. Just because I didn't enter, doesn't mean I can't spot BS when I see it. According to Riot, I'm apparently not allowed to express my level of creativity or humor because I can't draw. It's basically a case of promoting outer beauty and shunning inner beauty. That's rather shallow.
Do you tell people that win sports tournaments and other contests that they should stop being good at what they do to give people that aren't skilled a chance? Nice sense of entitlement.

: We did manually review all 4000 entries. The reason we have community voting is to make sure we are factoring community taste into our judging. It was clear on the back end that a couple entries were using bots or spam to get votes, which is another reason we make the final call and don’t just leave it up to the community vote.
Is there going to be any sort of punishment for the entries that used bots? Considering they'd already have themselves outed with their summoner name in the submission. Really sad to hear artists doing that.

: You just sound bitter you didn't win. Fix your attitude and be happy for your fellow artists. I think Riot is bright enough to look over their own system of voting. Which I'm not mistaken the community vote was consideration and not final, as Rioters themselves had the final say. And if you're really trying to use the "rigged vote" argument than all of of the popular artists that entered would have placed.
I had the same issue looking for all of my friends submissions but the system was built to give all entries a fair chance at the very least of being seen. But whether an entry was seen or not wasn't going to keep a submission from being reviewed fairly by Riot's team. I saw your tone as vindictive (some of these comments are outright insulting the winners) so my apologies for that.
: I honestly dislike 3 of those 5 that made it to the top : their expression is so intensely styled that it makes the characters' faces not look like themselves anymore ! Here Ahri is an ugly witch, when she's supposed to be an impersonation of charming beauty. I love Garen, and the demacia memes, but this just doesn't look right. It's not even a good copy of this one because it lacks the derpy eyes that suggest something other than anger which is stupidity, and it still lacks the concept of handsomeness or justice : https://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/691/682/e25.jpg And the Poppy one, well the expression is fine and we recognise poppy, but why pick poppy ? what's the point ? you could have done the same thing with pretty much any other character... There's no relation to the fact that she wears a hammer, or that she's a Yordle girl that has to prove something to the world, she's just angry. And looks like an Orc Grunt. Ok fine, next please. At least the Nidalee one is expressive without being over exaggerated, and uses different characteristics of the character to emphasise this expression : pointy cat teeth, gloomy lighted cat eyes, and another light on her front cristal. That's the best one imo. The Bard one is good too because it uses the meeps.
The point of the contest was to be over exaggerated. Read the fine print next time.
: They didnt say we had to do it in color...but it seems the winners were in color...so maybe next time tell ppl you prefer it to be in color?
You know most job interviews don't tell you to dress nice. SO when you show up to the interview in a stained t shirt and tennis shoes you're less likely to get the job. You shouldn't have to be told to go above and beyond.

: The winners remind me of when the business people hire artists who produce subpar work and everyonr gets excited over it while I roll my eyes in the background. This contest was a sham right from the start and the results just reinforce that. The voting was a complete mess.
I'm glad you believe you're more fit for judging the contest more than the people hosting the contest. Please tell us how you'd do it since everyone mad in the comments seems to be a pro at this.

And no, community voting wasn't the deciding factor. The Rioters were. Stop using this argument. It's not your contest so you don't get to choose what they favor. Digital art looks nice but so can traditional, suck it up.

What was meme about the submissions? They were funny and followed the contest rules. I'm really curious to see your submission because it doesn't sound like any decision would have made you happy unless it was yours.
: Not gonna lie, pretty fricken disappointed that all the winners are just angry, well shaded, colored, and have lots of details outside the face and emotion itself. Pretty sure without the armor and other garb these pieces wouldn't have gotten nearly as much recognition. The example they had was Zoe in a generic sleeveless shirt. Would've been nice if Riot(?) chose some pieces with more variance and at varying skill levels. Definitely saw some great ones that showed alot more emotion but artistically didn't look as appealing as these, or weren't digital.
>"Well shaded, colored, and have lots of details outside the face and emotion itself" Do you even read what you just said? That means the artists went above and beyond the necessary requirements and Riot saw it fitting that they won. Amazing how winning an art contest means you needs to be good at art. If there's anything that this contest taught me it's that artists can never seem to be happy for each other. Horrible tbh.
Rivini (NA)
: It turns out in order to win, your highest chance was to draw an angry face. That and have insane art talent, like for all their other contests.
Amazing how drawing good wins you a drawing contest. Shocking right?
: Ahh yes I called it, the winners were digital artists with a following of over a 1000 followers. Honestly this was very poor done and small artists with pen and pencil had no chance. The woobox probably got the winners 10 votes, the rest definitely came from their many social media pages with thousands of followers. Here is how it should have been. A digital group and a traditional group, because digital artists have thousands more tools and they just look better. Also there should have been a couple people just taking a glance at each submission to see if they are legitimate entries and at least not horrible. There were so many bad entries and troll entries that the woobox voting really wasn't practical. Not many people are going to go scrolling through hundreds of pages to vote for a picture, unless it is theirs. The small artists where if they tweet out their picture and only a couple people will see it and in woobox they just get lost in the hundreds of pages have no chance, even if they are AMAZING pieces. Very poorly done and I wish riot just thought about this for more than a minute. {{sticker:zombie-brand-clap}}
Are you a sore loser? Yes.

: I made it to honorable mentions out of 4k people and I don't have any follower base and I have 2 friends. You can't assume everyone won because they used social media.
This. The two grand prize winners did not have a social media following so I wish these bitter losers would drop the "popularity" argument. Congrats btw!
: Particularly a community vote not tied to players' accounts (so someone could easily spam votes through randomly generated IP addresses) that didn't let participants delete their duplicate posts (potentially splitting their votes across duplicates and hurting their chances of winning)... which [Rioters encouraged them to do if they were unsure about their entry](https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/c/riot-official/87GOYymE-check-out-the-champ-memotions-contest?comment=0059)... which a lot of people were because the submission system was so confusing (lack of clarity if entry was disqualified if Summoner Name wasn't visible in thumbnail, link provided after entering didn't lead anywhere until after submissions ended, etc.). {{sticker:zombie-brand-clap}}
