: Part 2 It hadn’t worked out quite the way Mort had expected nor wanted, but a hundred gold pieces was a hundred gold pieces. As they descended Mort’s office building, he couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that had overcome him. He had half expected a gang of vagrants or robbers waiting outside his door, having used the girl as bait. It hadn’t been the case, but Mort felt he should have actually counted the money. He would’ve felt a little better knowing he’d actually been paid. The girl voiced her disgust at the building’s conditions and Mort largely ignored her. Would the girl still pay him the hundred gold if his investigations amounted to nothing more than “the guy was suicidal and had had enough” he wondered silently. They stepped over a sleeping homeless person and into the world. The stench of sex and dog shit had faded slightly. The wind had changed most likely. Mort adjusted his jacket and looked to the girl. “Where do we go from here?” the girl asked. Mort had already forgotten her name. “Where did your brother live? I need to look at where he died. There might be something there someone missed.” “Business district, west of here. I had a hell of a time finding your building, by the way. Even with the directions the officer gave me. You really should consider moving to more professional office space if you want to consider making this a career,” Angeline replied. They started west, as she directed. During the day, the taverns and whorehouses possessed only the most loyal of their customers; or at least the ones who had nothing better to do during the morning hours. Mort walked ahead at a slightly faster pace than the girl, and as he did he looked back toward her. “Aren’t you cold? You didn’t bring a coat or anything, and that outfit doesn’t like it offers much.” He asked. “I’ll be okay,” Angeline replied, though she was rubbing her arms every time the wind blew against her. Several moments later, as they passed most expensive-looking brothel where most of the whores standing post out front had all of their teeth and looked at least like they knew what bathing was, Angeline commented, “I noticed that you didn’t offer me your jacket when you’d asked why I didn’t bring one.” “No, I didn’t,” Mort spat. “From here which way?” “Head south. There are apartments downtown, more toward the center,” the girl replied. They continued their trek, wondering more and more why the girl had actually decided to go with him and pay him so much. Try as he might, he couldn’t accept the girl’s explanation. Frankham, the Watch officer who had provided him with the case in the first place, had never been that good at selling much of anything; yet this girl not only went to him, but is paying far too much for this. A question popped into his head. “You said you had no family, except for your brother. Surely, you had a mom and dad; relatives, someone.” The girl lowered her head as a gust of wind blew past. “We were both orphaned as children. He was older than me, seven years to be exact. I was adopted by a rich family about three months after we were sent to the orphanage. Gesten, being a boy, spent most of his childhood there. “The couple that adopted me were very old and had no living heirs of their own. They died shortly after I had finished my schooling, and left me all they had, after the lawyers had taken their share, of course. It was still a sizable inheritance.” Mort raised his eyebrow at that. Having never inherited anything himself, he still knew it was extremely rare for a woman to receive anything from a wealthy family. They would've more likely have picked up some street urchin, taught him some manners, and told him to marry some rich girl. Maybe they had already tried that and the boys never worked out, he thought. The woman chuckled behind him. “They weren't Dukes or even Barons, nothing like that; but they had enough money to be comfortable. They wouldn't have, perhaps, broken into an abandoned building to start living there.” Mort scoffed at the remark as they continued their trek; wondering just how much talk he'd have to put up with before this was all over. The girl continued. “They owned a decently-sized farm outside the City Proper. It was too much for me so I had it sold and moved into the City itself. I kept looking, hoping that I'd see my brother working on the streets; doing anything. When I was nineteen I had finally found him working a foundry. We reconnected and I offered to move him in with me, but he declined. He hadn't suffered too harshly during his time in the orphanage, but to be fair he was near the 'graduation' age when we arrived. I guess we were both lucky we didn't spend too long there.” Mort sensed she had stopped moving moments ago and turned around. She seemed to be talking more to herself than to him. “Though I wonder why he hadn't chosen to seek me out instead of the other way around. I want to think that he wasn't able to. Maybe he didn't have enough money or something?” She looked up at Mort, her eyes welled with tears. “You don't think that he was jealous that I was picked and he wasn't, do you? That can't be why he didn't want to find me, can it?” “Couldn't tell ya. I do remember saying that the 'whys' don't matter; and I doubt what was going through your brother's head during then matters much now. Are we close to this place or what?” Mort responded. Angeline sighed and gave a half-hearted shrug. “Yes, Mr. Greenborough. It's the red-roofed building right behind you.” The red-roofed building in question was a modest three-story room and board. Its front door was locked, but Angeline had a spare key to get through both the outer door and into her brother's room. They both ascended the second floor and found his room. Before she went to open his door, Mort removed his rusted blade. “You can't be too careful. We don't know what we'll see when we enter. Let me go in first.” She raised an eyebrow. “The Watch has been through here. Surely the room couldn't have been molested too much.” Mort just shrugged. To say that the room had been molested would have been a gross understatement. The walls had been completely torn down; most of the floorboards had been uprooted; cabinets and nightstands dismantled; and even her brother's bed had been disemboweled to the point the floor was more comfortable. Angeline gasped, speechless. Mort turned to her and gave an I-told-you-so nod. “They ransacked the place! Why would The Watch do this? Was all this really necessary?” “The Watch didn't do this,” Mort said. I hope, he didn't add. “Well, who, then? You think a thief might have?” Mort stepped inside, careful to keep his footing on the floorboards that had not been uprooted, lest he fall through the ceiling. “Too thorough for your run-of-the-mill burglar. Break-in's have to be quick: in and out fast before someone notices you're there. Doing all...this, takes time and a whole lot of effort. I'm not talking two guys, it'd take at least five to get all this damage done quickly; and didn't you say he worked at a blacksmith?” “Foundry, actually, but I get your point. There's nothing here worth stealing for; or at least taking all this effort,” the girl said. “Someone thought so. Stay there.” Mort continued his venture inside Gesten's living quarters. The living space was very modest indeed. The main room itself couldn't have been much larger than Mort's own office. An antechamber led to a meager washroom with a tub smaller than any man that Mort had ever known, and a sink no bigger than a pitcher of beer at the local tavern. Mort tried to turn on the running water in both sink and tub, to no avail. He snorted and stepped carefully back into the living area to find Angeline sifting through the remains of the murdered bedding. “I told you to wait outside,” Mort growled. “They weren't here to steal. They were looking for something,” Angeline said, ignoring him. “What would your brother have that someone would kill him and tear apart his room to find?” And why didn't they torture him before killing him? Would've been easier to peel off his fingernails instead of turning this place inside out. “So you do believe that he was murdered, then?” Mort nodded. “What was he hiding?” Angeline sighed. “I wish I knew.” “You're his damn sister, aren't you?” “Do you tell people you know everything? I didn't think so!” Angeline turned away from him for a moment. “Wait, his diary. The Watch officer who had come to see me, he told me that they found his diary and a necklace in the room. The thugs that did this were probably looking for his diary.” “What would they want his diary for?” She turned back to Mort. “You're a damned detective, aren't you?” “Hey, don't get smart with me, lady.” “It's obvious they think that there's some kind of information in it. We've got to get it back before they do. Do you think The Watch would sell evidence to anyone?” Mort had seen it before but chose not to respond. “They haven't released his items back to you? When they rule a death a suicide, they usually release the items back to the victim's family.” Angeline crossed her arms. “The officer said the investigation is still pending, but he suggested they would rule it a suicide.” “We need that diary. I also want to see where he worked. He might've left something there or told someone. Which foundry was it?” “There's only one in the City. It's in the Industrial district, about ten city blocks from the northern entrance. It's right next to a large tavern that services the workers after their shifts.” Mort moved as quick as he dared out of the apartment with Angeline in tow. He should've known his case wouldn't have been a simple suicide the moment the girl had given him all that money. It was too late for regrets. “Are you going to the foundry?” the girl asked. “Not yet. I gotta meet someone first.” As they entered the streets outside the apartment building, Mort burst into a short sprint. “What do you want me to do?” Angeline cried in the distance. “Meet me at my office in five hours!” Then Mort turned a corner and was gone.

Idk, OP. Never thought i'd say this but aleast in the prequels stuff happened and the characters actually changed from beginning to end. I'd take anakin's I HATE SAND dialogue 10x over compared to the "hope" speeches we got throughout the movie over and over, everytime a filler arc ended. also, WE ARE THE SPARK, THAT'LL LIGHT THE FIRE, THAT'LL BURN THE CURTAINS, THAT'LL TURN ON THE SPRINKLERS, THAT'LL DRENCH THE FIRST ORDER. TLJ was a bunch of different writers, writing a bunch of different incoherent subplots to extend this into a trilogy. Filler movie. That whole alien horse bit was way worse than NOW THIS IS PODRACING could ever be & people ironically defend it as worldbuilding at a particularly ridiculous time. Midichlorians were a bad attempt at an explaination, but TLJ singlehandedly just broke every fleet battle that's ever occured in this franchise for no reason.

Reddit is the definition of majority-rules. You typically don't have people that hate the game posting on the subreddit, if they do they're drowned out by downvotes. I'm not getting upset at you thinking I feel cheated. I don't even care about the raid weapons; They're not the best. (except Zenith of Your Kind). The point is that it's a very specific kind of game that people should know about beforehand before they make snap judgements. It's a game that caters to a _very_ specific subset of gamer. All of your post is just you generalising about hot-button topics you've heard about. Prometheus Lens was a problem. So you know what? They gave everyone the option to use it instead of letting those who lucked out with engrams get to have fun. Sure, it was something that could have been avoided, but they made the most of it. That was hardly even a problem. It's not difficult to get 6 people together for a raid. You shouldn't even be using guided games for a raid. And you know what? People are _plenty_ daft enough to bash their heads against brick walls for the sake of values. Look at Dark Souls. Look at Monster Hunter. Look at WoW. I'm getting mad at you because you're taking out of proportion and context things you seem to have a tenuous understanding of, at best, and trying to make definite claims.

I don't even care about the raid weapons; They're not the best. (except Zenith of Your Kind). The point is that it's a very specific kind of game that people should know about beforehand before they make snap judgements. I waited until 305 to make a judgement incase the game stopped being so monotone. It didn't. The most interesting thing in the entire game was the raid and that was only because people didn't know how to beat it until 2 hrs after release. After that its just tedious because you should just be grinding tanks. Then Bungie released factions, iron banner, etc that are all just different names for token vendors for armor recolors wow - just do your tuesday engram quests for two hrs and then go grind tanks. And thats all Destiny boils down to, you grinding the public event with the tanks over and over again until you hit the cap or you're bored and then you stop playing the game. Just go play any clicker game without the upgrades, it's the same experience, since the way light levels function anywhere is awful. You think if monster hunter had one 1000k hp monster just sit in the middle zone while people stabbed it for an hour and got their 1% chance for a wyvern stone for what's essentially cosmetic armor upgrades, it would still be a respected franchise? It's not a grind on the level of Monster Hunter or Dark Souls or WoW, because these games aren't shit and their grinds actually go somewhere. Destiny 2 is more on the level of fucking cookie clicker, but only if cookie clicker had scaling, a hard cap, and reset on tuesdays so you could do it over again. > Prometheus Lens was a problem. So you know what? They gave everyone the option to use it instead of letting those who lucked out with engrams get to have fun. Sure, it was something that could have been avoided, but they made the most of it. That was hardly even a problem. Then you must not play pvp because prometheus lens was hilariously fucking unacceptable. Shouldn't have been released in that state to begin with. > It's not difficult to get 6 people together for a raid. You shouldn't even be using guided games for a raid. lmao I dont even have 6 friends that play the game anymore. Guided games is there to be used, and its clearly a dysfunctional peice of shit.

Are you daft enough to think that it was just the campaign people got with their purchase? I'm not even going to point out how you're misguided; It'd take too much time. I'm just going to tell you to re-evaluate your stance because you're _way_ off base.

So if you don't consider it an MMO, why are you pissy about not getting more content in what is ostensibly a full-package game? If you're trying to say it's not an MMO, but then demand that it updates frequently or comes out with more content straightaway, as an MMO might do, then you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. Pick one. Be satisfied with the game as it is, or be patient for new content.

: why does every action RPG ever created have a "Catacombs" level where it's a cave maze?
: I got teased for returning destiny 2 in exchange for a RP card?
Did you tell him it was trash and there was no more content after the first month?
: Anybody else think early access is dumb?
Only when devs aren't transparent in their game development. I'd rather have early access than rushed indie games.

And I went in expecting it to be pretentious trash because I didn't like the first one. Any movie with Ryan Gosling in crisis ends up great for some reason. Dunkirk came close and I hate WWII era movies. unexpected year

: Sucks to be the Lawbreakers devs right now lol
Not even the entirety of dev team is still playing the game. It was just clunky, generic, and not fun. And the advertising was like late 1990's-esque + dubstep
