Because I have a different type of degree than is needed for the type of work that I am criticising. The point being, you know, that even my secondary school education on the subject is sufficient to evaluate that the work I am criticising DESERVES criticism. Also because I don't really feel like being bullied in the workplace. That answer your question?

: Can we nerf the surrender box please?
Yeah, honestly it's fucking embarrassing that this got put through to live. Like, the parts where the 'yes' and 'no' buttons would be had you not voted flash ON TOP of the text 'you voted so and so'... Looks like something a computer science student would do. It's such a fucking MESS. Absolute and utter embarrassment.
: You can drag the surrender box off the screen if you are getting distracted from it.
: Riot, Riot please this needs to stop... it has gone too far! Creep blocking out of control!
Excuse me, but no. They need all their time and resources for immeasurably more important things, like their fantastic new logo, the likes of which has never been seen before. Get a grip, will you?
: This game isn't enjoyable anymore. And it's the community's fault.
The game is also not enjoyable anymore because it's generally shit. So it's not JUST the community's fault.
: Hey, thanks so much for reading! I'm Mary, the Riot editor on the comics team -- here are some quick non-spoiler answers to your questions, with my apologies that these aren't super in-depth: _How old are Garen and Lux during this issue? I assume it's close to Sylas breaking out, so they must be around 20-25 years old. Is that correct?_ Yep. We're thinking Garen is about 25 and Lux is about 19 in the comic. _What happened to Tianna? Can you tell us more about the former Sword-Captain, now High Marshal to the king?_ The comic won't be super-focused on Tianna, so I'll leave her stories for a future time, but she does show up again in the series. _Unrelated to the series, but are the Lightbringers and Illuminators the same order? Is one of these organizations a part of the other one? What about the Radiant Ones? (Or is that too spoiler-y?)_ For the sake of clarity, we're trying to default to using "Illuminators" consistently and phasing out "Lightbringers" -- they're the same organization. The Radiant Ones are a special unit of the Illuminators. Without wanting to spoil anything, in this comic, we're not touching on the Radiant Ones, but that doesn't mean Lux will no longer be connected to them -- just that she's not yet a member of that elite group at the time of these specific events. _When does this happen in relation to other important events of the Lore, such as the Ascension of Azir, the Battle of the Placidium or Swain's rise to power?_ This is a great question that I unfortunately can't publicly answer 100% confidently right now, but it's something we're paying attention to internally. I know this is an underwhelming answer. _How can we buy this comic to support you and the lore team? Are there special editions again? If so, what bonus material do they include?_ I'm always moved when people ask this question. THANK YOU! We're not doing special editions this time, but you can still buy single issues digitally on [Comixology](https://www.comixology.com/League-Of-Legends-Lux-1-of-5/digital-comic/772304?ref=c2VhcmNoL2luZGV4L2Rlc2t0b3Avc2xpZGVyTGlzdC90b3BSZXN1bHRzU2xpZGVy) if you prefer that reading experience. We are also totally happy when people read it for free on [Universe](https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/comic/lux/issue-1/0/)! The physical collection of the complete series releases in November and is up for pre-order on [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/League-Legends-Lux-John-OBryan/dp/1302919431/ref=sr_1_1?crid=R3GOEGOOVC14&keywords=lux+comic&qid=1557370887&s=books&sprefix=lux+comi%2Caps%2C173&sr=1-1). If you have a local comics shop, you can also ask them to order a copy for you, which helps support the store and encourages them to consider stocking future League comics. Letting them know it's published by Marvel and comes out in November will help them find it. We haven't decided exactly what bonus material to include in the collection yet, but I personally love backmatter, so I'll always push to get something special in there if it's possible. If you have things you'd particularly like to see in bonus content in the future, I'd love to hear about that, too! I'm a little internet-shy and don't post often, but I do check the boards, and I'm very interested in hearing what you all like (or don't like) and what you want to see more of. Finally... regarding boob-plate. Yeah. So. Honest answer: we're experimenting with a few things in the comics right now, and one of those things is character recognizability. Lux is maximally on-model here, and my personal takeaway is that a more varied take on outfits will often be a good call in future series. Thanks for checking out the comic, and for taking the time to post this!
> [{quoted}](name=a highwayman,realm=NA,application-id=6kFXY1kR,discussion-id=AsE2ETod,comment-id=0010,timestamp=2019-05-09T03:24:08.126+0000) >Lux is maximally on-model here, and my personal takeaway is that a more varied take on outfits will often be a good call in future series. > I sincerely hope that the mentioned 'varied take on outfits' will include having the decency and the insight to give Tianna Crownguard, Grand Marshal to the King and leader of the Dauntless Vanguard footwear less ludicruous than what she's wearing alongside her full armour on page 12.
: Riot and Missions
I agree to an obscene extent and you've said all that needs saying. Yes, it's a troll mission and who cares about 2 BE, BUT it's necessary for mission progression and I personally like to collect all the icons and finish all the missions if I can. I don't want the dumb thing to just sit there in my mission list until the event is done and I want to add that icon to my collection (as ugly as it is) because I collect icons. LIKE, AT THE VERY LEAST you would think Riot would be proportional in competence to their net worth and that they would satisfy the minimum standard that all other games are capable of implementing and do some sort of search / chat function to look for teammates. Something WE HAD, but they removed WITHOUT EVER REBUILDING. AND NO, WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO USE DISCORD OR THE BOARDS TO MANAGE THAT. Like, literally fucking OPGG managed to do better and had a system to find teammates for Clash based on rank, role, etc. {{sticker:zombie-brand-facepalm}} Just really poor brainpower behind this decision, no excuse.

: That's fine. May I ask a question though? Why is it that after you list a sound or logical claim, there is a need for a quippy jab at the end? It may simply be an observation, but I find it distracts from the content.
Because when they make inexcusable mistakes (whichever area of the game/product may be in question), I find it unacceptable on an objective level, but it also simply ANNOYS me that they are simultaneously as rich and sloppy as they are, and I want to express that sentiment with verbal vitriol. However, I categorically refuse to permit a sound argument I make to be dismissed because someone chooses to assume I am being subjective, so I separate the two clearly. Experience has shown that people on the Boards are not proficient in logic and discussion practices.
: How do you get that photo to appear when i was searching the boards? its the photo next to your title, i cant make mine work
You include a link in the appropriate field when you create the discussion and it does it automatically. (I did not choose for this picture to be displayed, I simply linked to the website, so it may not even be what you're asking about.)
: >Unless the salaries that Narrative receives are puny. Which I doubt. ^Not necessary. People have corrected errors in League narrative publications in the past (search for the threads if you'd like). The writers thanked them for catching it and adjusted it. Salary isn't a legitimate reason for errors in published writing; it's petty to suggest as such. I hope someone does read your thread and mull it over, but I doubt you'll get a direct response.
It may or may not be necessary (I deem it to be), but it's not an insult either. And it's not petty, it's realistic. If someone is paying me a quarter of what would be adequate for, say, a translation project, they had better get ready for occasional typographic errors, as I will be producing work of quality in proportion to the pay discrepancy and will not be proofreading the document. That is how it works. At least that's how it should work. But I must somewhat agree with you, since I assume Beck and Merrill get paid the most, and they've been running their own game into the ground for a while now, so one clearly doesn't always reflect the other. And it's okay, I don't need a red response, I need Riot to become less sloppy and more on par with their net worth. (Now **that **was an insult.)
: There's actually nothing grammatically wrong with that sentence. It just sounds 'funny' to some due to them being used to a different word priority: "It was so quiet it was as if the villagers had been frozen in place." but there's nothing wrong with the wording/order they used. p.s. Insulting people also doesn't automatically make the claim valid fyi.
The sentence you typed as an example of the alternative word order is also missing an obligatory comma (if independent clauses) or an obligatory relative pronoun (if relative clause). So much for your claim that there is nothing wrong with the sentence I extracted from the text. Independent clauses require a coordinating conjunction or a comma to separate them or need to be different sentences separated by a full stop. If the second clause is a dependent one instead (relative one marking causality) then 'that' shouldn't be omitted. What you mentioned as 'different word priority' is called inversion and REQUIRES a comma. I didn't call it a mistake because it sounded 'funny' to me. I also didn't insult anyone. I first made an ironic comment, then I phrased my legitimate criticism more seriously. At the end I made the statement that the only scenario in which it would sort of be acceptable for a person paid to be a writer to be using bad English would be if they are paid much too little to warrant a high degree of professionalism. Which is true. But I honestly doubt Narrative or anyone in Riot has puny wages and since Riot is always harping on about content (especially narrative content) getting delayed in order to ensure quality, I find a mistake such as this legitimately unacceptable and worth pointing out. Cheers for the input and enjoy your day.

*Mantle. ON TOPIC: Pls no Neko mask.
: What YOU said is obvious. "From birth" is OBVIOUSLY to be understood as "from the first time after birth" EVERY TIME it can't literally mean exactly from birth.
If you say so. But I don't agree. Implicature is not absolute.

: Learn at school? No. Go live in a foreign country with a group of friends of another nationality? Absolutely,as long as you're bilingual from birth.
There is no such thing as being bilingual from birth... Guys... When you come out of your mum's belly, you DO NOT SPEAK any language at all. It takes a few years for a human to develop linguistic capacity...
: We can be that certain though. Curse is installed on every computer at Riot's PC Bang (and likely other computers at their office too). They'd have noticed if every Rioter was flagged as a scripter.
You'll forgive me if I remember it's Riot, after all, and find myself not assured at all.
: still better than the old champ select
Yes. But are they, like, fucking crabs?? Two steps forward, one step back? First role selection, then oops, sorry, no, gotta gamble again. The two elements of design are CONTRADICTORY. There IS NO REASON for low elo to have autofill. NONE. And I'm a fucking support main. The only reason it's there is so they could re-brand Dynamicshit into Flex and not have matchmaking crumble harder than a Jenga tower. EDIT: If only AT LEAST the algorithms for autofill were competently written. But it's been proven to make matches very, very suboptimally.
: People saying it's Curse are the same people who would claim it's Skype in previous ban waves. Curse isn't getting people banned.
Lmao if we could only be certain. Tbh I wouldn't put it past Riot to have some piece of spaghetti code somewhere that might just trigger such a scenario. Dumber things have slipped through their cracks.

Literally this. The sheer audacity of it. The game hasn't even been that good lately. Or fun. The only reason I keep actively playing is because I have no other hobbies, and my laptop is too weak to play other more demanding games.

: ME TOO. Let this be an important lesson to never buy skins, its a free game unless you make it otherwise. I even contacted them telling them i have no idea whats going on, can you at least tell me what program i need to remove so i dont get banned on my new account. THEY SENT A COPY PASTE REPLY SAYING THEY CANT TELL ME! I have never had disciplinary actions taken against me whatsoever and then one day out of the blue BAM perma baned with no warning OR EVIDENCE. I wouldnt even know where to begin on how to script. Ive played at most 3 ranked games this season. I contacted them and only got copy paste replys! the whole thing is starting to seem like a scam to get me to rebuy all my $300 worth of skins.
This is why I basically only spent a total of $40 on my 5-year old account, and I don't intend to spend another dime. The last time I bought something, it was Warden Karma at the end of Season 5. Then, when they proved to be absolute and utter shits re: Dynamic Queue, I started my boycott. I'm slowly but surely bleeding them for skins through Hextech. I make sure I win a chest every time one is available. If I'll really want a skin, I'll just ask my friends for it for my birthday or something. Riot and their dumb decisions can SUCK. MY. DICK.

After reviewing your account to double check all the facts, it looks like the account was banned for using exploits. This is an issue that we take very seriously as it ruins the integrity of the game for many players. You can read more about our stance here: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/5kx4F7VE-reminder-third-party-applications I cannot disclose any details regarding our investigation as we want to keep the methods that we use a secret from any malicious intent of gaming the system. However, if you're sharing your account information with anyone else, that would be a violation of our Terms of Use and can cause your account to be detected also. Based on our investigation, we're very confident with the information we have gathered and will not be modifying this decision. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know. Hana Riot Player Support Player Behavior Specialist Support Main (2) Hello again, Unfortunately, I can't provide you with any more information other than what was already discussed. There are many individuals that write to us daily asking for information that's pertinent to our investigation in an attempt of exploiting our method. I'm not saying that this was your intention because I believe that it is not the case at all. However, this policy was put in place to protect our detection system and it's something that we must take great precaution on. I understand that this is a very frustrating situation for you. We don't ban players on a whim as we know how valuable the account is to them. Permanent suspensions aren't issued until we are very confident with the decision. Essentially, it's pretty clear to us from our end. That said, we have gathered enough data to go ahead with the decision on this case. Hana Riot Player Support Player Behavior Specialist Support Main

Spam them with tickets from now till kingdom come. They are OBLIGED to respond to every single one, even if it means clicking to input an automatic response. Basically annoy them as much as you can, because once (and if) they cement your permaban, that's all you can do. In the meantime, quit League and find another game to play with your friends. Not a single additional buck or minute spent on the game. They don't deserve it. That's what I'll do if I ever get an unjust permaban. Their policy is shit. And their systems are shit. And their decision to not implement dual authorisation is shit. SHIT.

: "Without any noticeable accent" means that he sounds as if he grew up in the upper Midwest where I am from. If I didn't know he was Korean I would think he was born and raised here.
Yes, I understood you. Accent is technically not part of being able to speak a language fluently, as long as enunciation itself is correct. Which is why I didn't mention it in my response. I'm not sure why you mentioned it. When I mentioned meeting them in person, I didn't mean 'assess their accent', I meant 'assess for myself how fluently they -really- speak English'. Suffice to say, I've heard 'if I didn't know they were... I would think...' many times before, with wildly varying results.
: It's matter of lingvistic intelligence. As long as you understand relations among languages and can imagine certain constructs more abstractly and know some similar language of the same tribe, while also having good memory to remember what cannot be deduced but only remembered and you are surrounded by native speakers of said language, you can adapt to it pretty quickly. I, for example, am Slovak, If I weren't lazy I could learn fluent Russian and Polish in relatively short time since these languages are from the same tribe as mine and very similar. Not to mentoin I already partially speak Czech (non-essayly) and even study in CR. So it's a matter of predispositions. Not that I'd want to argue with linguist by trade :X
But see, that's just the thing. To further expand on the examples you mentioned, I am a native speaker of Croatian and many would say that I thus speak Serbian by default. This is absolute rubbish. The lexis is simply not there. Without persistent cultural exposure, it would take quite a while for a vocabulary equivalent or closely equivalent to a native speaker's to be acquired. I used to have a Bulgarian friend who I could understand with a fair amount of ease, and I could also easily emulate phonetic patterns of Bulgarian while speaking whatever he taught me. I'd rather chop my arm off than claim I can speak Bulgarian, however, or that I could learn it in a short span of time, regardless of having tested as having high linguistic intelligence. I suppose my professional definition of what it means to really 'speak' a language is very strict. Call it a professional hazard.
Not xPeke (EUW)
: Time to find a new profession then I'm afraid ;) I've done it myself, it's definitely possible. I guess being bilingual from birth might help adapting to new languages.
Well, I operate with a professional definition of what it means to 'speak' a language, and I can tell you from experience that it's far less lenient than most people's. It's probably not a definition that applies to most people's view regarding languages (as laypersons). Active use of two languages from a very young age is tremendously helpful. However, being bilingual from -birth- is not a thing, since one is not born with linguistic capacity and, as such, is not even monolingual from birth.
: I went to college with someone from Korea who didn't start learning english until his 2nd year of high school. By freshman year of college he could fluently speak English without any noticeable accent. How do you explain that as a linguist?
I wouldn't explain it before meeting them in person and assessing myself what you proclaim to be fluent speaking of English.
Aniela (NA)
: What would you consider to be learning a language? Because in my experience that seems a lot more definition dependent. Also not all languages are the same.
I have a very strict definition of what it means to 'speak' a language. I have run into (in life and work) so many people who claimed they could 'speak' a language when they really, really couldn't.
DWT12345 (NA)
: Yeah, Riot's super slow. It took them an entire year to release 7 new champions, 3 champion updates, 2 class updates and 50 skins. Terrible developers.
They are definitely not -good- developers. They might be -flashy- developers. But the only thing that's currently really good about League is that it remains, to this day, very, very FREE. Quality has been declining for a good long while now and there's cosmic-scale room for improvement.
: Those who troll because of Autofill were going to troll anyway. They just use autofill as an excuse.
Tomosima (EUNE)
: Aatrox came out in 2013
As a linguist and translator I can responsibly tell you that one CANNOT, in fact, learn at least two new languages in the span of 4 years. You can dabble in 2 new languages and become familiar with 2 new languages. You cannot properly learn even one. But, yes. Riot is slow. Slower, at times, than a paraplegic snail.
