If they prove to be too powerful we'll definitely take a look at them and make adjustments as necessary. I hate assassins so no comment on your last suggestion. :D
: For some reason I'm not seeing other comments so no idea what's with that. So heres me blitzing out some to start it off! What are your Favorite changes to AP Items? The ones you think will be most Meta changing? Funnest for players?
> [{quoted}](name=ZaneShadow,realm=NA,application-id=A7LBtoKc,discussion-id=Js0ngspm,comment-id=0000,timestamp=2018-02-22T21:00:37.698+0000) > > For some reason I'm not seeing other comments so no idea what's with that. So heres me blitzing out some to start it off! > > What are your Favorite changes to AP Items? > > The ones you think will be most Meta changing? > > Funnest for players? I love AA Staff. It's sooooo good on Cassiopeia. Actually all the items are so good for her and if I can't get out of Diamond with her this patch then I'm for sure washed up. :D
: How do you guys feel like Aurelion Sol is affected by the AP item changes on the PBE? I feel like they'll be a huge nerf because Aurelion Sol now loses his mid game power spike by not being able to build GLP anymore (he values the HP and catalyst passive too much). Will he get any compensation buffs?
We'll see how A Sol lands with the AP Items but I think that he will be pretty ok. Mages that aren't A Sol need to get more gold to hit their Lost chapter buy and thus hit the point where they can usually match his waveclear. I also think A Sol can get away with something like a Liandries rush and might not actually need any mana. That said, he'll probably be fine rushing RoA. Again, we'll watch him though. I love A Sol and wouldn't want to see him struggle too much. ;)
: How do you think Swain will do? First impressions don't seem good. Is he a hard to learn champion?
His winrate looks to be about what we expected on the first day. I think Swain has a bit of a learning curve and that players will eventually start finding more and more success on him - especially laning and using W properly.
Kurasai (EUW)
: on swain, he's not feared in teamfights anymore; the healing is mediocre and the damage is too; I think the biggest mistake was gutting his damage in pbe. it's very low range we're not talking about xerath. I'm pretty salty since I really like the concept and everything with it, what are your thoughts on him now?
I think we probably could have held off on those last minute PBE nerfs. That said, I think that if Swain makes it through laning phase OK then he should definitely be finding success in fights. His healing is pretty heavily ratio driver so he needs to get items to be effective. We're going to be looking at how he settles then will address his power once we have a good understanding of where players are finding success or failure.
: What kind of changes to Cassiopeia are you guys looking at after the targeted spells changes? This is something that is sure to hurt her laning pretty substantially, and she has already had quite a few nerfs to her laning in the last 4-5 months.
So far we haven't seen her WR drop super hard due to the changes, but we're keeping an eye on her. I imagine we'd look at something like her Q movespeed if we were to buff her with the reasoning being it'd let her weave in and out of aggro range more quickly.
: How does he fare with the other Catalyst items like Protobelt and GLP? Also, how would you say he performs top vs mid? Are there any matchups in particular that he struggles with?
Well Protobelt doesn't build of Catalyst, but I think he's ok with GLP. I generally prefer RoA for more health later in the game, but I can see GLP working. I think he's better mid than top but can definitely be played up there as well. I think Swain will struggle with moderate to long range mid laners like Syndra, Ori, Xerath, etc. and in top lane he'll probably struggle against champions who can repeatedly engage like Jax and Irelia. I would say his matchups are somewhat comparable to Lissandra.
: Question for Cobra about Swain, what's your build, runes and maxing order and can you share any scrapped spells that you tested?
I've used two builds - one is RoA, Liandry, Zhonyas, Void, DCap, Boots and the other swap RoA for Morello. I think Unsealed Spellbook is optimal on him but also thinks he makes great use of Phase Rush. In the gameplay videos you've seen on his reveal page and the ones in his champion spotlight that are yet to be seen I have Phase Rush because US was bugged on our internal environments :P. Max order depends. Q max first and then depending on matchup and team comps I'd say you either max W or E second. Probably E most of the time. In terms of scrapped spells? Hmmm, we did A LOT of exploration with Swain. One example....earlier in development his passive replaced his trinket slot with a raven that you could place on the map at almost global range. The raven would act as a ward with a speed shrine on top of it (scuttle crab). The idea was that you were supposed to use it tactically, but we wound up realizing the optimal play was to either place it between towers midlane so jungle could move faster and mid could get to lane faster OR placing it in lane as a mid laner and just using it as a perma-ghost in lane.
: Hello! Any thoughts on Syndra's performance after receiving bug fixes not too long ago?
I think Syndra is still in a less than ideal spot and could use some help.
: In memory of my brother
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your brother sounds like he was an incredible guy. His favorite line definitely resonates with me. Thanks for sharing that.

: Hey, Novalas! I'm wondering why was Azir nerfed in 7.24B? The nerf hit his mid game pretty hard in my opinion. The old Azir was hit with a similar nerf and that dropped his win rate by almost 10%, which is why he needed a rework. However, he seems to be even weaker than pre-rework Azir after this nerf. How do you feel about Azir's current state? Thank you!
The reworked Azir is hitting the goals of being more accessible to a wider variety of players, but is currently performing too well compared to the rest of the midlane cast. The intention of the nerf was definitely to hit his mid game - it's possible we went too far but I'm confident we didn't as he's still seeing a lot of play and his ban rate is only rising. I personally think he's probably still too strong but it may just be the nature of the meta right now.

Moved out here in February - it has for sure proven to be the best decision I've ever made. :D Working at Riot sounds super awesome. What would you recommend for a young and budding person wanting to find a position at Riot? What do you guys primarily look for in a hire?
I guess a starting point would be trying to have some sort of understanding of what you want to do. Our website has a careers page with current openings here: [Riot Games Careers](https://www.riotgames.com/en/work-with-us/welcome) Without knowing your particular interests, I would say the best thing you could do is find something you're passionate about and dive into it. For example, if you were interested in being an engineer here, I'd spend a lot of time learning about code, come up with and working on my own individual projects, and really trying my best to connect with other people who share the same passion. I did this when I was a civil engineer. I got myself really involved in various CE clubs in college, did extracurricular research and helped out professors with their work whenever I could, and attended as many conferences, meetings, etc. with other engineers in the area as possible. It's a lot of work, but I was really passionate about what I did that drive is what ultimately took me to Boston to get my graduate degree. Riot, in my personal opinion, loves people who are willing to push themselves outside of their comfort zone, aren't afraid of failure, are curious and have a desire to level themselves up and the people around them, and of course, are passionate about gaming!

: "the designer is Riot Jag - he made Camille!" Oh. This makes me excited and happy I saved my Mecha Aatrox shard. I'm not a melee fighter player but Cami easily became one of my favorite champions lore-wise and for game play. P.S Is a playtester exactly as the name suggests, you play for work?

While we haven't brought in any superstars, we've run a number of player labs for Swain that consisted of Swain mains and mage mains of various skill levels. Their feedback has proven super valuable in Swain's development. :)

Seen ya in a few posts across the boards today and a lot of us players enjoy chatting with reds about the game so much obliged for your time. ( Seriously thou how does jinx fair vs Swain and Aatrox?)
My ADC is legendary, I swear! Actually though, it's become something of a meme in the Playtest Pit because of one particular game. We load into the playtest, my support and I run bot lane (I'm playing Kalista), I declare to my support "I like to play aggressive, I hope you do too" and then proceed to get killed Level 1 without using any summs. It was completely tragic and my team went up in flames and now I get a bunch of shit whenever I'm marksman. For sure at least one person makes the "He likes to play aggressive and he hopes you do too" comment whenever I get filled as AD in our tests. >_> To actually answer your question, Jinx probably does well against both of them because of her range although I think if either of them get on top of her she's going to have a REALLY bad time.

: @Riot King Cobra
Hey, dude! So I can't really get into specifics about Aatrox's current state, but we're for sure working on him and a lot of the stuff I've played with is fun! He's not really my sort of character (I main Cass/Aurelion Sol) so I personally haven't played him, but we've been getting him in our playtests quite a bit so I've faced off against him and have had him on my team. The main playtester for Aatrox is Riot Novalas and the designer is Riot Jag - he made Camille!

We tend to focus on stuff that we theorycraft to be strong, is currently a meta pick, or has no other place where they can succeed. Zyra mid does not meet that criteria, as we don't expect her to be disproportionately powerful mid, she isn't a meta mid pick, and she works better in the bot lane. Idk if you saw this comment from a few months back, but do you think these Zyra buffs have done anything to move the needle? > Do you remember the matchups and which were best and worst? Most matchups felt pretty similar - the ones that stand out are.... I remember we played her into Galio a number of times and she was able to punish him really hard. Was difficult for him to ever walk to the wave and he had to default to clearing with Q. The other memorable one was Vel'Koz - who'd I expect would do relatively well once he has Lost Chapter and some points in his waveclear, but my ability to play aggressive early made it difficult for him to find a good back to get the item and the sheer number of "tanky" plants that I had made it difficult for a jungler to gank because he couldn't walk up. > As we know, this ended with a nerf to plant hp on champ hits. A common question on reddit and discord was what the playtesters saw in Zyra's shoving and engage deterrence that was overpowered when compared to Heimer, Malz, Anivia, Azir, or Xerath (or Yorick in top). We don't solely balance champions based on power. In Zyra's case, playtesters found her ability to shove along with the difficulty in killing her plants exceedingly frustrating to deal with - moreso than Heimer's turrets or Malzahar/Anivia's waveclear. A lot of those playing against her felt that it wasn't sustainable or healthy gameplay, but also acknowledged that having that many plants probably feels great for the Zyra player. Reducing plant health rather than hitting how many she could have seemed like a sound compromise. > The plant damage per level and damage multipliers make her better than most at turning an xp advantage into damage. Were you noticing a buff to power when ahead (also caused by catchup xp change)? Or were you noticing her damage fall off much harder than before because of the mpen changes? Or both? Hard for me to say if it was a buff to power when ahead because I, admittedly, didn't have a super great read on mid lane Zyra's ahead-case power level on live at the time. That said, I felt like I was able to push a lead pretty well with her if I worked with my jungler to invade, set up/deny vision, and look for picks. Also was very hard for the enemy team to walk into neutral objectives like Baron and Dragon if I had time to set up plants. Super late game fights felt relatively difficult to play well because of the large cast delays on her abilities along with her extreme immobility so I think if I didn't do what I could to close out a game with a lead I'd eventually get outscaled. That said, I didn't notice her damage falling off super hard. > Also, how did you build her? Wondering if you tried a Luden's + Electrocute build to double-down on mid game? If your damage falls off anyway, you may as well have an Ardent heal for your whole team when they attack anything you hit.> I built her pretty standard mid-lane DoT mage - Morello's for CDR into boots/Liandries/Rylais/Void and spec'd Sorcery/Inspiration - grabbing Arcane Comet, Manaflow Band, Celerity, Scorch, Magical Footwear, and Cosmic Insight. Lane dominance from Comet/Manaflow/Scorch is pretty great on her imo and Celerity really helps her a lot with positioning. Magical Footwear also helps with this and Cosmic Insight provides a lot in terms of CDR. If we had the opportunity to get more games on her I definitely think I should have explored different builds/runes options like the ones you suggested. Unfortunately, at the time we had a _ton _of mid lane test points and didn't get to be as thorough in our testing of Zyra (and Morgana mid) as we would have liked. It's something we're working to get better at. > I feel like Zyra's counterplay there is fair, but it's too exacerbated by layers of cast times, skill delays, and travel times. Do you think there's room to trim the Q delay to .5 sec, lower the self-cc on E, or cut the ult cc delay to 1.5 sec? I personally think there's room to trim some of her cast times - I really noticed them when playing her mid and I totally understand that they feel pretty constraining. :\ Unsure if there's room to actually adjust them. I didn't really inquire much about them with the designer, but it's a conversation I'm willing to bring up. > I haven't tried this yet, but it's on my to-do list. Having swapped to Unsealed Spellbook on my own main - Cassio - I'm pretty sure it's super good on Summoner-reliant champions and would highly recommend trying it out. I feel like it's extreme versatility lends itself well to these champs too as you have called out. > Idk if you saw this comment from a few months back, but do you think these Zyra buffs have done anything to move the needle? Do you theorycraft Zyra to be strong, and is it possible for her to have a place in the mid meta? I think these changes probably have slightly moved the needle, but I think Zyra mid still has some problems that make her less appealing a pick than other mages mid - largely immobility, range, and the ability to truly control the minion wave. I would say that she's a totally fine pick in solo queue, but I don't expect pros to pick her up any time soon - especially in a meta where poke is very powerful. I imagine that Zyra really struggles into poke heavy comps with her limited range and slow movespeed.

Howdy, dude. Sorry been busy. Generally found that the changes allowed Zyra to pretty handily dominate lane - at least in the matchups we played. The increased number of plants makes ganking her or committing to an all-in against her quite scary. Playtesters who played against her generally felt the same way. Most of our tests on her were when her plants had increased health - and so players felt like it was really difficulty to out shove or make proactive plays against her. There were a number of times where the enemy jungler would try to gank me and I would easily turn the 1v2 by sprouting up all my plants and enraging them with R. I'd say her lane dominance somewhat carried over to live - lowering plant health alleviated some of it, but I'd say if she's played well definitely feels dominant in the same way that Ori and Heimer do. I generally found if I couldn't maintain a lead though that I fell off compared to other mids late game - largely because of immobility and range. If I was able to secure a solid lead it was generally easy to work with my jungle to press it farther. I'm curious to see how she fares with Unsealed Spellbook. I think Zyra is pretty Summoner Spell dependent and think that the significantly reduced CD you get with that keystone along with the ability to swap solves a lot of problems she has.
: Depends on the individual playtesters. Some of us are fairly proficient off-role (I play 3 roles at a decent proficiency (mid/support/bot), Auberaun/RobertXLee play pretty much everything pretty well, and King Cobra cannot play ADC to save his life :D) and some of us play pretty much just a weird spattering of champions (Aesah and GangIeri) I wouldn't say it affects our ability to give feedback too frequently -- but most notably it can be rough on individual playtesters when we have several changes to several champions in the same role (Riot Endstep is typically locked into the tank dungeon). We're working to improve on that front, however.

I think you go Liandry second and then either go Rylai's or Void Staff.
: ***
Thanks for the kind words, Korneo! :) I personally think Aurelion Sol is not as bad as a lot of players perceive. Glacial Augment is his best keystone - the slow field that GLP generates because of it is really powerful for setting up fights and Future's Market lets Aurelion hit his item breakpoints a lot earlier than he normally can. I usually go Glacial Augment, Biscuits, Future's Market, Approach Velocity, Celerity, and Scorch. Maybe with the buffs to Phase Rush it will be better on him, but I'm not sure it will really move the needle. Aurelion Sol is a scary champion to buff a lot because of how insane his experienced winrate is compared to his general winrate. Despite dropping to a sub 50% winrate all around, dedicated players still maintain a 60% winrate on him. Long term, Aurelion needs far more work done than just numbers tuning to fix some of his problems. I've talked about this in more detail in other posts. I can try to find them if you're interested!
: By heavy handed do you mean the changes are really buffing morg and zyra or are you saying the tweaks ended up being bigger than what was planned? P.S I'm sooooooo excited for the new Swain. Im just counting the days for its release! Happy friendsgiving. :)
I mean that they very clearly read as "we want these champions to be viable in the jungle" rather than giving them buffs that allow them to jungle without very stating "We're buffing these champions in jungle".

: Hey guys, can I ask how you guys feel about the changes DCap is doing to Morgana, the passive rework, do they feel good. Also could I ask who's the lead playtester on Swain and working with Herlache on him. And personally, how are you guys going to spend Thanksgiving and or Black Friday
I think that our team is currently somewhat mixed regarding the Morgana/Zyra changes. I believe some of us really enjoy them and some of us feel like they are a bit heavy handed in what they set out to do. I'm the lead playtester on Swain! Herlache isn't the lead designer on him anymore - Wavebreak - the designer who did the Azir rework is conducting the Swain train now. I'm having a friendsgiving with a bunch of friends here in LA - my family is back on the East Coast.
: Several questions 1.Why is Novalas posting Patch chat, did he overthrow King Cobra in Civil War like he did against Aesah 2. Is Koyuncu new to the playtest team, since I haven't see their name before 3. What happened to the salt jar in the playtest corner
1. Meme answer: He expressed interest in hosting it so I passed it off to him so I could focus on some other work. Real Answer: He overthrew me in a civil war. 2. He's new and awesome. :^) 3. Hjarta was in cahoots with Novalas and during the civil war he destroyed the salt jar much to the terror of the rest of the team.

: Has King Cobra grown tired of his 15 minutes of fame?
I'm drowning in memes. All I want to do is talk Zoe, and all I get to do is talk about my all-directions Leap Strike.

: thank you for you answer :) So maybe after runes reforged will we see more stuff for Brand?
We're always having conversations about how to improve champions in the game. Can't say for sure if we'll look to adjust Brand more, but he'll definitely be in our discussions!
TomiMan7 (EUNE)
: Hey! :) I know Brand is not affected by 7.21 but i wanted to ask this anyways. What do You guys think about Brand after the buffs? Do You guys happy how he turned out or will he see some more tweaks later on?
I think the buffs were a nice way to give Brand mid some love, but I don't think they are enough to make him a solid pick. If we had the resources, I would love to see some additional work done to him that really solidifies him as a premier mid laner.

: Hello Cobra Sir, I was wondering if you had any changes planned for Aurelion Sol in the future? Do you think his kit will need to be worked on at some point? I personally love how he plays now, but I'm worried because he has so a low playrate. Thanks :D

I've been meaning to get back to you. Another play asked something similar and I posted a response to him here: [A Sol](https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/WW7iBAgw-patch-chat-with-the-playtest-team-720?comment=001200000000000000000000) I hope that gives you a bit more insight!

We weren't confident that we could change Aurelion Sol in a way that took him from, say (somewhat arbitrary numbers here), a 3/10 to an 8/10 with the resources we had available at the time and so rather than ship something that only brought him from a 3 to 5, we decided to hold off until we could find the time to give him the attention he deserves. I'm interested to know what is Riot's view on Asol. I love him due to how unique is he, yet that is the single most problematic thing about him. When Riot backed away from his changes, I thought it was because they had no idea on how to improve him. But now you're implying that with better resources, something WOULD be done, which menas that Riot does HAVE a plan for him. I'm curious about that.
I can't speak for all of Riot, but I think that a lot of designers and Rioters see Aurelion Sol as one of the biggest 'lessons learned' champions in the game. In my opinion, A Sol has one of the most grandiose and appealing thematics of our roster, but that doesn't shine through in his gameplay and so he's fallen pretty flat. Since we are always looking for ways to improve League, we spend a lot of time talking about how we can improve champions, and Aurelion comes up a lot in these talks. I'm doing some explorations on Aurelion with a designer right now (disclaimer: just explorations - so nothing with a ship date. Just bouncing ideas around and trying things out), and we've identified that there is definitely compelling gameplay to Aurelion Sol right now that is worth preserving. Playing around his stars, as you said, is a very unique experience and when tied in with his heavy roaming playstyle he brings something to our champion roster that other champions don't offer. That said, I think you're also right in that these traits also lead to a lot of his big problems. Right now his play options are so tied up in his star range that his matchups wind up being extremely polarizing - Aurelion Sol actually has the most variance in his midlane matchups than any other mid. When he's in a good matchup he feels absolutely unstoppable and playing against him is a miserable experience because he basically lives in every lane at once. In bad matchups, Aurelion Sol feels nothing like a mighty star dragon (see Fizz/Yasuo). Right now, Aurelion indexes so hard into playing around his stars and roaming that it puts a lot of strain of our definition of healthy gameplay / counterplay. Despite all that, I think we'd want to preserve these core aspects of Aurelion in some capacity, perhaps dialing them back a bit, and then look to add some power or pizzazz elsewhere in his kit that not only improves game health and counterplay (both for him and his opponents), but also helps make his thematics shine more.

: What kind of Keystone do you think Aurelion Sol would take with Runes Reforged? I don't believe Phase Rush would work for him as well as Stormraiders does on him live. I'd be okay with taking Arcane Comet for thematic reasons, but what other build paths do you think could work for him? Or does he just fit in that subset of "Mages without a clear Keystone" that seems to be brought up recently?
Phase Rush is probably his go to Keystone. He can proc it with just his stars. Right now it's a bit undertuned but when it's in a good spot I assume it will be pretty strong! You can also opt for Electrocute or Predator. I think all of them are pretty decent on him. Predator makes for some really funny ganks.
: What were your favorite match ?
My favorite match was probably FB vs ONE where Frozen played Aurelion Sol. I love my space dragon. :)

: ahah! so it's a multiple entity champ like kindrid! :P
Maybe they are! Or maybe I was just being ambiguous. {{sticker:sg-zephyr}}

: {{sticker:sg-ahri-1}} Tell me! is he a real mage? I would like to see a new mage that really does magic like Ryze and Karthus. For me, Aurelion sol and Talliah aren't mages at all. {{sticker:sg-shisa}}
Sorry can't give anything away other than they are REALLY fun. :)
: Can we get some hints on said new champion?? Is said champion a true creation of The Great One who made Yasuo?? :D
CertainlyT certainly made the new champion. :)
: what if I told you cobra no longer plays on that account and is secretly a jungle main?
my fiddlesticks jungle is something to be feared.
