It varies depending on the driver software that you have. I'd recommend googling the question - "how do I set my GPU for different applications with [insert GPU here]?"

Just curious.
Some of the more common causes of more minor hitches are caused by poorly optimized VFX. The more severe hitches are typically related to anticheat, or issues where some asset wasn't loaded into system memory when the game loaded when it should have been.

Are you manually modifying your keybinds via your config file? That's what this sounds like. It would probably reset every time you patch, if that's the case. That does not sound like a bug that I've seen.

: Hey, this isn't about FPS stuff but I still want to post my positive feedback about the positional rankings you planned for next season. I've seen a lot of people saying they don't want it, but I'm so relieved seeing that you're still pushing them out to test, because I think people don't know what they want. The same people saying they don't want positional rankings are the same people that are complaining about bad players in their games. They don't think that the bad players are autofilled and got a role they don't know equal to their ranking. I know this has been a struggle because the constant in games should be the player himself, not "I'm the constant, but also two autofills in each team". It gets very RNG-y depending on whose autofill fed the most, and it gets frustrating especially since botlane and support are low demanded roles, there will most certainly always be a dude who feeds there, which will in order screw it over for the other guy in the lane, now putting two players behind instead of only one. About people complaining that the new system will make climbing slower. It really doesn't. I know that the 'tier' you get awarded when you win promotionals is fake - it's like a sticker. Your elo has always been there and there's a reason you can be Gold I, dodge all your promos, and eventually be put against Diamonds if you win 70% - because your tier does not matter. So it's disappointing to see that people are ready to throw an improvement to ranked under the bus just to receive a sticker like in kindergarten after you complete a task, but I hope that you guys in Riot will still force through the system because I honestly believe that if people see the difference (aka the autofills won't play like 1000 elo below everyone else) they will like it.

: I noticed about 3/4 patches ago, I was getting massive FPS drops. So I tried a few things such as updating all drivers, Re-installing and connecting to an Ethernet connection. Until I swapped from FullScreen (Boarderless) to Regular FullScreen, and my FPS went back to normal. Is there any reason as to why this is happened suddenly? Kind of annoying not being able to click on my second monitor and having the game Minimise
Borderless is less performant than Fullscreen or Windowed, respectively, so that's kind of expected behavior. We've noticed that Borderless is especially problematic on Windows 10. I don't have any suggestions, other than to try Windowed (that's how I play at home). Feels weird at first having the window bar along the top, but you get used to it.

240hz monitors are the highest of the high end. I understand that it sucks to not have the game support your best hardware (I also have pretty high end hardware personally, but it isn't really leveraged by League), but the reality is that the game needs to run on some pretty low end hardware. This leaves us with some constraints that make supporting the most cutting edge technology not worth it. In the future, when we upgrade to 64bit and dx12, this may be on the table, however.
: Switching from fullscreen to borderless display (visually identical, it still covers the full screen) makes tabbing out way way faster, for some reason.
This is because playing on Borderless does not minimize the game client when you alt+tab. As a result, dx9 doesn't lose your graphics device, so graphics can continue being rendered from memory on your screen. When you tab back in, it's much quicker, because the game doesn't need to redraw your entire game from scratch, which is what happens when you tab back in on fullscreen.

Can you screenshot the error? It's possible that our Anticheat is not happy with Avecto. I can forward the info to that team.

Having both at the same time would be a pretty untenable situation. We'd have to have two completely separate League installs, one for dx9, one for dx12. The likelihood of having pretty serious issues from having those two diverging paths would be pretty high (i.e. pretty high likelihood that we leave behind dx9 players and make cool dx12-only features). That and we'd be in a lot of risk of having various compatibility issues across the two versions, since we'd be double-building, double-deploying, etc. every time we ship LoL.

We don't have an exact timeline. Essentially we're monitoring the player numbers across different specs. When the numbers get low enough for the lowest spec (dx9 dependent specs), then we'll start working on upgrading everything and moving to a more "modern" standard. 64-bit League the dream

That was before my time, but IIRC the FPS counter was bugged if you ever had FPS at that level. We won't be changing the tabbing out behavior. For the majority of players, we think it's more valuable for them to not crash when tabbing out than for tabbing in/out to be really quick. In the future, if we move off of using DirectX9, we will be able to make this a lot smoother. For now, it's the best we've got.

I hope so! That crash was the bane of my existence for months. We tried many fixes, but ultimately it was a root driver issue that we could not crack :( Hopefully it's gone for good!

: Wanted to point out that this issue came out in Preseason 8 (patch 7.22) and that before I had no problems at all. It got resolved for a couple days after 8.14 (the patch the anti cheat got released on NA) and the game was back to pre-7.22 levels of performance, but a couple days later FPS started dropping again and even worse than before. All drivers are up to date, same for BIOS and OS. Every other game (even “heavier” ones such as FF14) run smoothly and have had no performance changes over this year and half with this laptop. League is the only game I have issues with and I’m fairly sure that it’s not on our end. Also after some investigation I figured out that it’s more of a CPU issue rather than a GPU one, in fact there’s similar laptops with the same CPU but different GPUs having the same issue (a friend of mine has a similar laptop with the infamous A10 9600P and a different GPU and experiences the exact same thing). I’m surprised that the hitching happens GPU-wise honestly.
I just ninja-edited this in to my original comment, then realized that you already responded. "EDIT: Also, what model is your GPU? This might be an issue where you're playing on settings higher than really supported by your GPU. Do you play on low-ish settings?"

Here's a zoomed-in section of a few milliseconds of rendering time. https://imgur.com/iH1zSgZ It looks like there are two issues. -There's pretty frequent spikiness of the blue line - that represents the total time your machine takes to draw a frame. I imagine you've already done this, but can you verify that you have latest drivers and BIOS updates for your CPU? I'll do a bit more digging on my end, but it will be tough to troubleshoot unless I've got that exact CPU sitting around here somewhere. -The giant hitches you're describing appear to be coming from your GPU. https://imgur.com/oWTAtw3 These gaps where the graph drops to 0 for a few milliseconds show where your system is getting so stalled that it doesn't even render a frame for a few milliseconds. All of these big drops are from the system waiting for your GPU, for some reason. Can you verify that you've got latest drivers for your GPU? Are you using any kind of power-saving settings? Do other games run fine on that PC? It's possible that the issue is related to your hardware, drivers, unique machine setup, or League of Legends code itself. Knowing whether other games run well would be a handy clue. EDIT: Also, what model is your GPU? This might be an issue where you're playing on settings higher than really supported by your GPU. Do you play on low-ish settings?

What's the issue you're referring to? There was a crash recently related to skipping around on the replay bar, but I believe that was fixed.

I can't be sure, but that sounds like an issue I had in the past. Most gaming laptops have both an integrated GPU (leverages your CPU to do graphics processing) and a dedicated GPU (your Nvidia card). I would try to make sure that League of Legends is properly flagged as an application that should use your Nvidia graphics card.

: Not sure if you guys know, actually I think you do since I’ve submitted countless tickets and also wrote to you on Reddit months ago, but there’s a massive optimization issue with a specific CPU which is (my) AMD A10 9600P that’s happening since last November and causes stuttering every single game. I’ve reached out other people with the same CPU and they seem to have the exact same problem, and in my last ticket one of the support specialists told me that the “AMD A10 9600P is kind of a known issue”. Are you guys going to look into what’s causing this massive performance issue specifically on that CPU? It sucks that I haven’t really enjoyed the game as much as I did for the past year.

Hm, Have you played on it more recently? The biggest issue with High Sierra (the crash) was resolved by Apple at the end of June.

: I don't play much due to issues but the ones that made us stop is after the game it won't let us get to the game lobby. It gets us stuck once game is over...it's been a while since we played but I'm pretty sure it doesn't even take us to the lobby. So we have to restart the whole laptop. Also mouse jumps all over. I dunno if it's the computer itself or the client...but it acts like the game itself is lagging...like it jumps all over the place. Mouse itself works cause use it on PC as well. Loading time in general games longer to get into game. Always has and I remember back when I was gaming all the time on my mac (before I had PC) I would randomly DC on the loading screen and get bug splats and have to reconnect.
I think that some of the issues around crashes during loading should be fixed on Mac now (the High Sierra OS issue was the big one there). For the mouse one - I have no clue :( Loading times indeed have gone up, we're working on getting those back in line. I didn't want to make this post too big by including that too. I'll ask around about the failure to return to lobby during postgame. What kind of Mac do you have? Like what OS / what era of Mac?

We do make fixes for Mac as part of our normal process. Unfortunately, we have run into issues in the past where Mac would specifically act up, often related to a new OS update. Generally we try to fix those problems, but we're really building a workaround into our game to deal with the new OS change. As an example, there was a crash related to the High Sierra update that we were never able to resolve, but eventually Apple identified and fixed the issue. What kinds of issues are you specifically having?

: Is there a thread on the client performance? I recently tried to play league on a laptop which was smooth in client and in game with 60+ fps on med-low settings. Now the client hangs for minutes and I get 25 fps max on the lowest settings, 30ish if I set the resolution to below 720p in game.
Are you talking about in-game? Nothing we've done has impacted perf that drastically. Are you sure that your GPU is being used by the game? It's possible that you're running the game off of CPU and integrated graphics, whereas before you used to be using your GPU. This is a kind of common issue, and what it sounds like from your description. Can you check to see if your GPU has latest drivers, and if League is using it correctly? This should be configured in your GPU's drivers / control center.

Heyo! Sorry for the late response - I didn't realize I've been logged in on my PBE boards account, so I didn't notice this message :( It's definitely off. This wouldn't have anything to do with your network connection. If you were having an issue due to this feature, your screen would freeze entirely. Without seeing the error, I can't really guess what might be wrong.

I'm not sure. It sounds like you're having a hardware/software specific issue. Does this happen to you regularly? What kind of hardware setup do you have? Can you provide a DxDiag of your system? Can you link your .rpd Performance logs from a recent game?

: I experienced the same problem, the game loaded correctly for me. However in my last lobby it wouldn't let me select anyone to ban, then froze when the countdown hit 0. After that I relogged and it wouldn't let me hit play to get into another game.
Oof, that sucks. I don't think that's related to this issue, but we are working on some investigation related to the champ select problem that you described.

Heyo, thank you for the report! We're looking into this now. We've been refactoring and fixing up some old rendering code, and it looks like this may have been caused by that work. Does this impact your game at all, or does it just look bad when you're tabbing back in? Just checking to make sure that the game is still loading and rendering correctly.

I can log off windows and relog and restart league to "correct" to issue, but that's it. The game is Frozen, but i can still hear the sounds going on. : This happened to me in two of the last three games I played. Very frustrating. Voice chat stayed connected and computer didn't freeze as I could move mouse around and restart with ctrl alt del, but the game itself froze and failed to show anything and wouldn't let me exit in any way or even minimize to let me use task manager. It did not have anything to do with Internet connection as my ping was good both times when it happened and I could check my Internet through the command page and I was still connected. After the first event, I did a full repair of league and tried using hex tech repair tool as well. Idk what else to try as clearly neither worked Quite a game breaking bug as I'd really like to not get banned for afking when the game does this. : Let me jump in with a dumb question real quick. If your in-house tool is basically a less nice version of Unreal/Unity, why not use one of those? I know Unreal is compatible with C++.
That's not a dumb question! I don't really know, to be honest. A lot of it has to do with us using a custom engine, and having built everything ourselves. I don't think it would be easy to port the game over to be readable and loadable by those tools.
