: Thank you kindly for the answer. I've removed it from overwolf. All that I have on it now is an app for builds, the death replay and one that changes my keyboards color with the champion.. I believe. I know the pro's use the Death replay one, the keyboard one is just for RGB keyboards and the builds as far as I know are just suggestions. If any of these sound like they shouldn't be used, I would be glad to hear about it so that I don't get in trouble.~{{champion:44}}
I feel really terrible popping in here to follow up contradicting another Red on the forums, but just wanted to clarify that it is safe to use this app (at this time). More information can be seen in detail for context in my post below.
: Apps on Overwolf
We never formally approve any applications and blanket green light them to be guaranteed safe, because there is always a chance the apps can change down the road or the situation pivot. That said, we *do* flag applications as being compliant within our guidelines and permissible to be published. Overwolf plugins go through an approval process with our Developer Relations team that ensures that they are compliant with our current policies and guidelines before they are approved for API access and to be released to players by Overwolf. In the case of this particular application, while it's on the line, we did clear it for being compliant with our current policies. Using it will not get you into any kind of trouble, and worst case scenario we would take our concerns up with Overwolf and the app publisher, *not* the players in question. Apologies for the confusion in the contradiction with the post from another Red below, but this is just a simple case of an honest misunderstanding internally that my team will work to address.

No worries there. There's always been an exception filter in place to allow custom games built by the Tournament Code API to still be looked up, regardless of any of the above issues, either before or after now.

: Esports API?
Hey there! We don't have an official esports API within the public Riot API, but if the esports team ever rolls one out we'll be quick to hook it up into the Riot API! In the meantime, a lot of enterprising developers within the community have figured out a way to make an ad-hoc solution using the live data feeds for the lolesports.com website. While we can't guarantee that method will always work in the future or be reliable 100% of the time, it's been a good solution for a lot of community devs so far. You can go checkout our community developer support forums over at [discussion.developer.riotgames.com](https://discussion.developer.riotgames.com/index.html) for more info!

: Could/will you provide links / explanations for what/how to use to replace the custom item set builder? If you are intending to replace it by having us use 3rd part versions I would hope at least some help in choosing and using it. I have never used a 3rd party app for league so far and feel uncomfortable with how to proceed and use it.
Unfortunately that lies outside my scope. Personally I was not part of the decision making process to have to cut this feature for the reasons they outlined, no the discussions around the solution focusing on 3rd parties. That said, I personal rely heavily on Champion.gg myself, and have solid confidence in it's reliability given how closely my team has worked in the past with it's creator. (It also helps all his code is open and public on git hub for security review)
: As someone who thought using third party apps was bannable, having them recommended is... confusing. {{sticker:zombie-brand-mindblown}}
Using a 3rd party tool _"that gives a measurable unfair advantage"_ is bannable.. by that specific wording what we mean to say is "using hacks/cheats/scripts" will get you banned. Tools like Curse Voice, Overwolf, Championify, LSI, lolreplay, etc however will *not* get you banned, _ever_. At first glance it may sound a bit tricky to gain the burden of knowledge to tell the difference, but in reality if you stop and actually look at the applications in question it's pretty obvious and straightforward right away if an app is giving you an unfair advantage, or if it's something like Championify or Curse voice.
: The fact that a company that is known for banning people for using 3rd party systems in their game is telling me to use a 3rd party system is very worrying. I use this item system a lot and I'd rather not be banned by your support staff for trying to use it with the new client.
I will confidently say, we have never banned anyone for using a common or benign third party tool. Championify, Curse Voice, LSI, etc.. these are safe to use and have _never_ caused anyone to be banned. I say this will confidence... it is my job to be right about this. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is either misinformed or outright lying for whatever reason benefits them. I have had _many_ direct conversations with our anti-cheat folks around this topic and have worked very closely with them to ensure their protection of the game does not conflict with our policy of supporting creative community efforts to enhance the player experience in positive ways.

: > We're currently not planning to bring over the item set creator feature from the legacy client. Basically only an incredibly tiny percentage of players ever used the feature, and we've heard from many players that y'all don't care whether we bring item sets over so long as we continue to support 3rd party item set customization tools like Championify—and we will! What ? No ! With the customization tool, we can see item without be in-game ! It's important ! Please let this. :( And i don't know if Lol Replay 2 auto item sets stills work... And you don't speak about ranked teams on new client. Any news ?
For those of you who rely on 3rd party tools, like Championify or LSI, to add your item sets... _these will still work!_ There is actually a difference, on a technological level, between the Custom Items that are created using the client UI elements, and the custom items that are created by 3rd party tools. The technical underpinnings for those tools will remain (they are related to the core game, not the client) when the client side stuff is phased out.

A very true statement. I'm not stating our system is perfect from end to end. I'm saying it's not mistakenly banning people for using OBS. :)

: @Riot Replay app = Perma Ban?
It depends on the app, but generally speaking no it will not get you banned. Things like LOLReplay, and SKinSpotLights tool, which are replay specific apps, are totally okay. However, if you use an application that has Replay support built into it adjacent to other functionality that is NOT okay, such as cheating abilities, then obviously not.. even if you claim to only use the replay functions. That's actually a pretty reasonable request, on the jungle champs. We've actually "grouped" the jungle information intentionally however. Jungle paths is a pretty specific play pattern for junglers, and if you have a uniquely identifiable jungle path you take on, say Jarvan when starting Blue team, then your opponents might be able to look that up and use it against you. Since this isn't the kind of information that would be available in the game through other methods, we would prefer to not make it available via the API either since it could provide an unfair advantage in knowledge. As to champion positions, to the best of my knowledge 60 seconds is the rate at which we capture the data to the match stats database by design, so I'm not sure it's something we can easily increase.

When are you gonna start banning all hte people using mobafire and lolking to see their opponents statistics? You're somewhat right. If a third party function becomes a _serious_ must have, maybe we've screwed up somewhere in our game design? Part of my teams job is to look at the third party ecosystem and look for signs of major player pain being highlighted by rapid/wide spread feature adoption, and share this insight back to teams within Riot to help make smarter decisions about product design. Great example: Jungle timers. The rapid adoption of Curse Voice around this feature made it clear that it was a much bigger pain point than we had initially thought, and we re-prioritized accordingly!

Overwolf does not directly interact with the game, it's an Overlay that is active all the time and is, what you could call, "league agnostic" (the experience is the same using it no matter if you are in league, the desktop, or another game) and as a result does not violate these policies.

It brings up lil icons that tell you who is talking. I know it might sound like a vague difference, but that doesn't actually apply to this statement from our point of view. "Interfere" means to directly interact/intervene with in a meaningful way. Curse voice's "who's talking" notification overlay is pretty agnostic of the game. While it does line up with the UI of players, it has no affect or impact on it. There is no direct interaction with LoL itself in this context., it would be the exact same experience and interaction if, say, you had Minesweeper being played under it instead. (Think of it like other voice programs like Teamspeak, Mumble, Skype, etc. They let you know whos talking with an overlay, but even if that overlay is stylized to look like the game in some way.. it's not actually _interacting_ with the game.)
: Hello Riot Cluvie, I have a suggestion for the 3rd party programs. Since you guys have a well laid out website already. Would it be possible for 3rd party devs to give you their applications. They go through beta testing. Then on your website you have 3rd party apps APPROVED by Riot games. So you would have two area's. Approved Beta apps. And Approved finalized apps. This way you are working close with the developers. You can make sure everything up to Riot Games standards. I strongly believe communication between Riot Games and 3rd party app developers would help make production for the game on both sides more streamline. For example there are a few apps that provide replays. Some will send you a email. Some will give you a link to download them. I wish someone would work with you guys and make a replay system that records the game and puts it into a folder where you can access it anytime. Because as of now we have a problem. Anytime there is a new patch. The replay has a high chance it wont work if i played a game last week, I want to review it, or make a video. But I cant see it anymore because the patches dont line up. This would fix the issue you would be worried about with the server overload for the replay system that has been talked about. I am not sure on what your guys' plan actually is with this situation. But any transparency would be great as far as a reliable replay system goes. I think working with 3rd party developers closely could help Riot Games move forward with out any stress on your internal systems. Edit: was reading some of this post. And Riot Sargonas said, In short, I clarified that it no longer violated the policies, I did not however give it a clear "approval", and I even addressed this later in the thread elsewhere by stating that we did not keep an approved list nor intended to. As Applications can always change by their developer without warning, it's better/safer for us to state what does/does not comply with the rules than it is to give something an "official seal of approval" which we might then awkwardly have to retract later due to unexpected changes. Why not have an approved list with SAFE LINKS provided from a riot games website. Anytime there are updates to an approved 3rd party program update it. This is why the Beta prorgam should be there as well. If youre going to allow 3rd party apps. People shouldnt be scared about using them. We really do need a concrete answer as some people worry about the grey area's. And no one wants to make or take a risk if they aren't approved.

This one is more up my alley than her's, so I'll chime in. (My team handles the 3rd party developer program) It's a good idea and something we have explored in the past. Ultimately however we've made the call (and least for now) to not dive into such a program. The problem is that the internet (links) and software (dev apps) are highly dynamic. What we review and approve on one day could the next be highly dangerous, either because the Devs pivoted in a new way, because their code was infiltrated (much like the recent security flaw that hit WeChat and many other common mobile apps due to malcious code snuck into 3rd party libraries they use), or multiple other concerns. The amount of resources it would take for us to police this sort of ecosystem constantly to ensure that the "safe" list is 100% always safe is simply too large, especially when you factor in the damage possible by the ONE time that something snuck by. (For comparison, Apple has HUNDREDS of people who review apps for approval 24/7.) Instead, we prefer to create rules that say "if it fits within these policies it's ok to use, in a policy sense, but the security and safety of your system and account are at your discretion." This is also why we prefer to highlight and support web apps and tools that are cloud based, and not ones that require you to download software to your system. (It's also why the most recent API dev challenge required all valid entries to not include downloaded components as well.) Truth be told, people SHOULD be scared about using these (downloaded) software, and we will always highlight that risk and concern. A lot of bad people out there want access to your info, and would love to use the popularity of league to further that agenda given the chance.

As Applications can always change by their developer without warning, it's better/safer for us to state what does/does not comply with the rules than it is to give something an "official seal of approval" which we might then awkwardly have to retract later due to unexpected changes.
: Hey man, come down here to central Illinois, we've got plenty of countryside -__- Please. have some of it. I'm sick and goddamn tired of it :P
On of my best friends is from Bloomington IL. I've been there. You can't fool me... you can keep it.

Given that you are geographically very close to Chicago, your ping should be significantly lower! Now not only do I have infinite water, infinite food, infinite access to large academic communities, and infinite travel opportunities, I have infinitely low ping. Northern Illinois easily top 10 places to live in the world. All hail.
As someone who lived in Chicago for a year, I have to admit... Northern Illinois is kinda OP!
: OMG ANIVIA GOT NINJA BUFFED THIS PATCH
Came in here expecting it to be a stealth title for a post praising the return of Eggnivia. Was not disappointed!

It's perfectly acceptable to use curse voice. Our only concern was with the application reading certain information directly form the game client, and more importantly from how it was automatically placing strangers into a voice chat together during champion select. Both of those concerns were corrected when we discussed it with Curse last summer, and since that time players have been free to use the application.

: @Riot - I hope you're not okay with this.
Hey everyone! Just wanted to chime in, since someone asked about our thoughts on this. LoLWiz, in it's current incarnation, is no different from visiting OP.GG or LolNexus or any other similar site. : @Riot I'm gonna go ahead and call this scam out.
Being an IEM (and not Riot managed) Stream, I can't speak to the nuances of what was and was not allowed in chat or why. That said, on the issue of the particular client program in question.. as we've said many times before, using a Custom client is against the TOS. It is especially so when you leverage functionality within one to gain an unfair advantage. Rest assured, any of the options you see in the wild that let you "multi-queue" with more than 2 people in Ranked solo queue are a bad idea. It's quite easy to detect, far more so than the developers of such tools would lead you believe, and there are indeed consequences for doing so! Nonetheless, thanks for bringing this to our attention! **edit** I totally forgot to add, I also can't stress enough how insecure these programs are. Any app that requires inputting your login info is a risk. These apps are always a potential way for phishing of your credentials by unscrupulous folks!

: is that a declaration of war against Morello? Does even some inner-Riot squabble exist?
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the gentleman! However, it's no secret folks like to blame him for every change they dislike.. and I can't help but sass him about it. ;)
: Bard's Lore All Makes Sense Now!
So what you are saying is..... Bard is Morello?

: Riot API should allow opt-in unranked statistics
Something close to this is actually in the works already, and it's been briefly touched on in our Dev Forums. When Match History was previously announced, MattEnt talked a bit about the philosophy behind the data: Ranked info is public, Normals should be shared between friends only. Now, this works in Match History because it's tied into your account and we can check your friend association. For API usage however, we have to blanket filter Normals entirely, as there is no technical mechanism *yet* to support this. The missing piece is a form of SSO/OAuth that will allow 3rd parties to authenticate players and validate their friends securely, without insecurely sharing login info. This tech is not something we have right now, but we recognize the need for it and plan to have it one day. Once it's in place, then you will (in theory) be able to have a bit more access to Normal Queue info in the API, as 3rd party sites will then be able to share and display that info to you and anyone on your friends list.
