"Nocturne has poor character design" Like no shit, Nocturne is a champ from the games infancy, but he's on the relaunch list and most likely won't make it past 2020 without one, but you have to be patient seeing as two of them are already in active development. Hello Meddler, seeing the big 10th anniversary come up closer and closer I find it a little disheartening that as we get closer to the big anniversary Riot as a whole is removing more and more from the game as it was all those years ago. From removing modes to even little things like almost removing the legacy cursor, and changing the Logo, it just feels to me that the goal as a company is to cut ties to the past rather than embracing it. Garen is getting changes to his passive which makes it scale better, and is also getting more attack speed per level, which just makes his E feel like it does late game earlier, the villain passives removal comes with the change to his ult ALWAYS dealing true damage. Less defences from the W comes with the tradeoff of his e hitting harder in the mid game, which in turn means you can go for a tank item in place of a second damage item. the added AS scaling is probably there just for people to fuck around with, much like trynd's to this day AP ratios.

I've been pub stomping with him all week, but if I were to face someone who understands their champ as much as I understand Morde, it'd go a lot more even or just straight losing the lane. Who knows, in a month they might even have to undo some of the base stat nerfs when people actually learn how to fight him.

As much as I want to say {{champion:8}} or {{champion:85}} , this piece of shit {{champion:518}} makes top a living nightmare for any champ that's weak to ranged early (most tanks, and around half of the fighters found in top), and heaven forbid if you don't have a jungler who shows top-side presence. She stacks her near 100 magic damage on-hit on the minions, hits YOU with it, it gives her a SPEED BOOST (she then takes glacial and it also slows you), and if she's in danger she can make a decoy, be invisible, or snare you through your own minions. It's too much for a teamfight burst mage to be able to do early, it's like Kennen on crack.

Sadly it can't be sooner, as we don't push things to PBE over the weekend. **Revisions:** * Q- AP scaling reverted to .6 from .4 * Q- fixed a typo regarding the cast time (was written as .5, is actually .4) * Q- adjusted the animation considerably to look/feel less clunky * W- 3x Armor multiplier when Granite Shield is active has been REINSTATED * W- the bonus damage on the initial Thunderclap hit has had its ratios reduced to compensate (.3 AP from .4) and (.15 Armor from .2) * VFX updates on Passive shield regeneration, Q missile/trench, W up-time/impact, E and R (**BASE SKIN ONLY FOR NOW**) **Context:** Q- Believe it or not, these changes were specifically designed not to nerf AP burst mage builds. We felt like the combination of extra Q range and bonus AP scaling on W would be perceived as a win here. Since that wasn't the case, I'm reverting the AP scaling on Q but nerfing the new W's ratio to compensate. And while I personally do think that Q spam is a little unhealthy, those who came before me were smart enough to gate it behind a high mana cost. I still think this is an elegant solution because the ability is most oppressive in the early game, and its gating mechanism slowly evaporates as Malphite levels up and purchases a mana item. Hopefully this will satiate all the cheese wheelers out there without frustrating your opponents too much. :) W- We underestimated how attached players would be to the 3x Armor multiplier. As a designer, it felt a little tacked on, and granted power in fairly obscure ways. However, there's no denying that preserving Malphite's niche as THE anti-AD tank is important to all of you. It's clearly a resonate fantasy and one I'm happy to bring back. **Clear-Ups** A few common questions/concerns have come up, so let's address them here! * Malphite's abilities won't gain range based on his size- sorry! I wanted to do this, but it was OP OP * The initial AA reset from Thunderclap triggers an Aftershock. This means it deals three instances of damage simultaneously; the AA, Thunderclap bonus damage, and Aftershock AoE damage. The result is a pretty meaty burst of damage! * The new speed differential between Malphite and his target are significantly buffed. Assuming you Q a target with 400 MS on LIVE, the delta between you would be ~225. In this iteration, that delta explodes to 350+ once you get some boots. The combination of a longer range Q, easier target accessibility, and improved burst damage from W should allow Malphite to participate in skirmishes and team fights without always relying on his R. * Scope for this project was super limited, and for good reason. I'm still new, I'm learning the tools, and bandwidth from art/tech was already accounted for in our project pipeline. Maybe Malphite will get a full VGU in the future, and maybe I'll be the one to do it, but that's currently not in our slate. ...Get it? Slate? Cuz he's a-- nevermind. **Next Steps:** * Next week I'd like to add a check to Q that uses your target's move speed if the amount you'd steal from them would make you faster than the base values. This preserves my goal of making Q consistently good, while retaining the playmaking potential of stealing from a particularly fast foe * We'll also be monitoring Malphite's overall damage output/power. The E's armor ratio is a great place to nerf if he is too strong with this iteration. It offers a lot of utility in lane, so it losing damage wouldn't be that bad for his gameplay, as you'll still want to use it for longer trades.

Specific rioters, pretty cool people, funny, actually communicate, and care about players. Riot as a whole however goes out of it's way to ignore player pain and in some cases just fuck with the users and the community at large: - The more often than not lack of communication ANYWHERE (the only thing you guys actually tell us about is random dumb questions you filter through on "ASK RIOT", certain pbe changes, or skins that everyone calls you out for making). - How hard you all make it for content creators (that Vandiril video shows it all). - All the shit that's pulled in the e-sports world (like Marc Merrill's TSM callout post from a few years back). - The money-grubbing skin release pipeline of only making 1350 skins and only for the same circle of champions (3 Jarvan skins in a year, but only one Kled/Yorick skin every 2.5 years makes you look like greedy assholes). - The way you GENERALLY punish players (bad words towards others get your account banned, but that ghost cleanse Nunu you saw go 0/13 because you banned his Yasuo last pick, nah he's fine) - Do I even need to mention your workplace scandals?
: Early 9.10 Patch Discussion
The problem in facing Riven for me personally, is that she has hidden power, her passive is a lot of damage and there is no telegraphed way of showing it (you can click on her and look at a small box but that's it), on the PBE a few years back (around when Annie got hers) she had a bar showing passive stacks under her HP, have you thought about bringing that back at all? Other than that though for a more direct nerf, you could hit her shield. It's a high ratio, making it scale from 80% to 100% could help give her a more exploitable early game.

: not really, there are only a few items they cant buy and even if they had some sort of compensation for the mana the powerlevel of said champions wouldnt go up at all. if someone like cassio can buy roa and ludens, vlad can too. if someone like swain can buy roa, rumble can too. you are severly understimgating the power of those items. not one of those champs that you mentioned would change their original builds to either go for roa or ludens. i just cant see vlad not going for protobelt first, rumble not going for liandries first, katarina not going for gunblade first. if other mages can use them so should the resourcless ones. the only thing that is that they are denied the option entirely, without any reason.
So you're telling me, that if Vlad, or Rumble, or hell even a Kennen were in a bad matchup they wouldn't buy an item (The Rod of Ages) that is fairly cheap for what it offers at 2700 Gold (60AP scaling to 100AP, and 300HP scaling to 500HP), which offers a cheap build path, scales them into the mid game, and grants them sustain from the Eternity passive (health back form ability casts), if on top of all these things it currently does it also compensated purchases by non-mana users in the form of a conversion to another stat or some other kind of compensation, whether it be price or stat-wise. It is currently a "safe buy" option on close-range mana users, Caster mages don't buy it because a Lux/neeko doesn't need HP, Close range AP damage threats like Swain, Cass, Amumu, Gragas, Ryze, or Karthus usually buy this item in those kinds of matchups as it scales and offers sustain, why wouldn't Vlad, Rumble, or Mordekaiser want an equal amount of sustain/stats at that price on top of their already-heightened healing comparatively. Especially if it was given some kind of "compensation"? But this really is a tangent. To really hone in on this issue and at your original post, let's look at Catalyst of Aeons (not even an AP item yet): if this worked viably on your requested Champions (Kennen & Akali) that means that at level 9, Kennen would get 8 health back every time he pressed q (Akali would get 25HP), it is on a 4 second cooldown (akali's lower than that), and lets say that on top of the passive, kennen/Akali also got extra energy or AP from the mana they don't need. This would throw the balance of their laning off to a tipping point, because not only has this high base damage early game threat (that is almost entirely dependent on cooldowns rather than costs) grabbed a sustain item, this sustain item will end up giving them more offensive stats than their mana-gated competition's item choice, while also being the safer option. It would eliminate the chance you have to fight Kennen or akali in the early game in a way comparable to the triple Rejuv bead start you see Katarina's do from time to time (but less of a setback), because of how safe they'd become just farming and healing. It would cause the same thing (to a smaller extent) that Will of the Ancients caused back in season 4.
