And I'm not a fan of how Nobles or Imperial works with random units getting the buff. Especially considering how powerful the buff can be.
: Even putting it at 50% true damage would make it incredibly strong early, which is expressly something they're trying to avoid — they _want_ the variance early to be high, so that it can be strong later.

Then not 50%. There is a number where it is balanced and not "random unit."

Why "one unit at random" for the Void? Why not something like "deal half of their damage as true"? I hate the whole random unit... if a carry gets it you stomp, otherwise you're not doing much. The variance is just way too big.
Jabalor (NA)
: Yep 65 health is going to fix Aurelion Sol, thanks Riot Honestly who thought the W change was a good idea? If the early game counterplay was the problem, why not add the toggle back to lvl 9 just like you did with Urgot's W last time?
Agreed. A toggle at level 9 would be amazing. But I think they should at least increase the duration or just completely revert the W changes.
Keitron (NA)
: Riot please hear to what the boards and the subreddit r/Aurelion_Sol_mains asking to revert the rework.
They don't need to revert the rework, just change the W back. Everything else is fine, but that "new" W is just wack. At the very least it should have longer duration because right now it is so silly and turns him into a burst mage like every other burst mage.

So... any comment on the lack of focus on keeping some promises that Riot had from years ago? What about bugs that mess up cosmetics and skin borders that haven't been addressed for years? Sending in comments to Player Support gets the "we can't do anything and can't escalate it to anyone who can" response. How do we actually get these things fixed? Who do we contact and what can be done? Seems like there's no answer for this stuff... and it seems like Riot doesn't care since it is impacting such a small number of people. But we still paid money for this stuff, like the special borders, and yet we don't get them... =/
: Teamfight Tactics patch 9.17 notes
Any chance we can see bigger boards and other experiments? One thing I think a lot of other games in the genre have is more emphasis on positioning and interesting ways to reach the backline. In TFT it seems like it comes down to simply having a strong frontline and one or two strong carries in the back stacked with items. All your units are basically just about delaying or disabling the enemy until your carry can ramp up and stomp hard. Kind of leads to repetitive gameplay instead of having to adapt to what you're given and what the opponent's are doing. Also, when will we get the ability to hold TAB to see everyone's board and info all in one spot? =/
: I was in a pre-made with 4 of my friends, and my one friend was playing Lee Sin Jungle, pinged me that he was gonna gank my lane, and actually baited me into inting my laner, then laughed really hard, which I also thought it was funny, but I called him a r**ard in team chat b/c I knew it would make him laugh. Well, you know what would make him laugh even harder? Reporting me after the game and getting me chat banned for 6 games, dropping me from honor level 5 to honor level 0. The nuclear option of completely zeroing out for a single chat restriction is pretty ridiculous.
: Once again: premades do not have any additional power in getting you banned/chat restricted. 9 reports in a game is equivalent to 1. What matters is frequency across games, and severity of the report. In fact, ganging up on players and coercing the enemy team in game [is more detrimental to the person making the report](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752884-Reporting-a-Player#h2q1)

It only takes "one report" to flag it (which will then check the text to see if it is inappropriate), but it pushes it up in the system if multiple non-premades report. So say 4 people in the premade all convince the other team to report you, then it will go up higher. Two premades with 2 people each reporting you and getting the other team to report you is 7 reports and will automatically count as "negative behavior" no matter what you actually did. Seriously, do some tests. Get a smurf (or if you're so confident your main account) and ask your teammates and the enemy to report you after the game. Just keep asking and tell them you're doing tests or something. You'll get a chat restriction MUCH faster than if only a single person reports you. Also, just read this statement there: > Negative behavior is unacceptable regardless of the circumstances or who started it. It can be tempting to respond to negative players with negativity of your own. Our systems do not care who started the behavior and will treat each reported player based off the merits of their own case. The only way to handle these types of players is to mute them and continue playing the game followed by giving them a report at the end of the match. So if someone is using racial slurs or literally trolling intentionally, they want you to just ignore it 100%. To me that is ridiculous. If I see someone using racial slurs anywhere (even in real life) I'm not going to just walk away, I'm going to tell them to stop because that behavior isn't appropriate. I'm not going to call them names or engage them much more, but saying that their behavior is childish and immature shouldn't be deemed enough to be chat restricted. But in Riot's eyes it is.
: Big doubt. What actually happened was you had a screaming meltdown all game, then did it again.. and again.. nobody ever got a restriction for saying "troll" once.
> [{quoted}](name=MagicFlyingLlama,realm=NA,application-id=Ag8jgd8Q,discussion-id=ENBru35o,comment-id=0004000000010001,timestamp=2019-08-18T22:35:20.619+0000) > > Big doubt. > > What actually happened was you had a screaming meltdown all game, then did it again.. and again.. nobody ever got a restriction for saying "troll" once. "Screaming meltdown" ... more like asking racist, transphobic, intentional griefers to stop. And it being a full premade who tricks the other team into reporting you. I have the chat logs if you want to see them but sure.
: Saddest part is you got 3, now 4, upvotes for calling out his/her toxic name. Yet they get 26 upvotes. You're more likely to be reported defending yourself, instead of muting, than somebody who is being an intentional toxic jerk is.

Yet they get 26 upvotes. > > You're more likely to be reported defending yourself, instead of muting, than somebody who is being an intentional toxic jerk is. Yep. It is a shame. And it only takes 2 premades to trick the other team into reporting you to get chat restricted. The Rioter I talked to on PS said they had not once reversed an automatic chat restriction in ~3 years of working there. NOT ONCE. They said unless chat was completely blank or 100% positive things they wouldn't. So if you literally said "stop being immature" they would let the chat restrict stand. That is messed up.

I get tilted on occasion as well it happens but you should definitely be above 2 this late in season It has to happen twice. Guess what happened twice within a single week? That same thing. And "should definitely be above 2 this late in the season"? I told you, it disproportionately affects people later in the season. This happened a month ago. If it happened at the start of the season I'd be fine, but now I'm not. Also, I went from Honor 4 to 0. If I was Honor 2 I would have also gone to 0. So it disproportionately affects people of higher Honor as well because they lose a lot more. Overall, the whole system is flawed and needs to be changed.

: I've been reported for saying "stop trolling" to a 4 man group and got a chat restriction from it. It wasn't the only offense for sure, but the fact 4 man groups can report you while trolling is much more a problem than someone you can mute.
Yeah, that happened to me too. They lied to the other team and said I was using racial slurs when I wasn't (they were). Player Support didn't care because they said basically I was "toxic for asking people to stop using racial slurs and should just report them and ignore them." To me, if you're not calling out toxic behavior you're contributing to the status quo and the continuation of it.
: Don't be toxic or do stuff to get your honor down in the first place.
Your name alone should have you banned "Diick In A Box" ... that is toxic according to Riot.
кG (NA)
: It's a punishment... If you dont like it, then dont do it again. No reason you should ever become honor 0 in the first place except for truly toxic behavior. Why would they reward you for doing bad things?
Truly toxic behavior? Like calling out people to stop when they are trolling and using racial slurs in a full premade and lie to the enemy team to report you too? Yeah...
: I don't know why you're getting downvoted, what you're saying is very true. I got chat banned one time for 6 games a little less than a year ago, and I'm still not even on the last checkpoint for Honor Level 3, and I play 15-25 games a day (Level 411). The time it takes to regain honor is incredibly horrendous.
Yeah, it is insane. I think it is both Honor capped, game capped, and time capped. It also disproportionately hurts people who get punished at the end of the season vs the beginning.
: The math doesn't work out on that. Start of the season I was maybe honor 3/4. Hit 5, then about halfway through dropped to 1. Currently at checkpoint 2 of honor 3. Plus I also have honor 5 on PBE, and this is as someone who doesn't throw out an honor just because.
Yeah, their whole honor system is flawed. It disproportionately affects you later in the season if you get a chat restrict than earlier. The fact a single chat restrict removes ALL honor is ridiculous. I was Honor 4 but called out some premades for using racial slurs and intentionally losing. Player Support didn't care.
Xakioh (NA)
: If you are Honor 0 there is a reason for it, they make the right call by doing that, i'm not even trying to get them, i barely play and i'm honor 4 checkpoint 2
"There is a reason for it." It could literally be due to premades trolling and reporting you. I got chat restricted for asking a Jhin support to stop trolling when the entire team was premade and throwing on purpose.
: Honestly no matter what your team is doing most of the information they have to give is useless and doing /mute all and never saying a word is the best thing to do. They don't need to rework honor if you just ping when you need something or are planning to do something and don't talk to your team. I know it's frustrating, especially in a team game that they do that but pointing it out in game and drawing attention to it doesn't do any good. It never has and it never will. Instead just report them at the end of the game for griefing and go on with your life.

That is what Riot says, but I can't stand by if someone is using racial slurs or purposely throwing the game. That behavior has to be called out. I've followed many of the people who have done things and only a very small handful were actually punished for it. That is what is messed up.

Sometimes you're unlucky or just don't poke the bear. Uh, my account wasn't permabanned or even banned. It was just chat restriction. Getting a single chat restriction resets your Honor completely. Never cursed, never used slurs, never harassed anyone. Just asked people questions on why they were trolling and wasting people's time. Turns out it was multiple premades who were throwing on purpose and reporting anyone who tried to get them to stop. Some of them got banned too, but the Rioter who had been working there for 3 years said they have never reverted an automatic chat restriction ever. But sure, pass judgement on people without knowing any details.

"Player Damage We made some changes to player damage in patch 9.15 and overall it worked well. But it led to games being longer than intended, especially when fights were close. So we’re making some more adjustments. Overall damage should still be less than at launch. Base damage now scales with current stage. Stages 1-2: 1 damage Stage 3-4: 2 damage Stage 5: 3 damage Stage 6: 4 damage Stage 7+: 5 damage" Cool, the suggestion I made got in. Been asking for that since launch. And Demons being less binary too. Huzzah. Now if we can only get a Tenacity item to counter Glacial and heavy CC builds... =)

: While I completely disagree that demons are useless when they don't burn at Max Mana, I do agree with the anti cc item. I think it could potentially be something a new or existing class could do as well. (Like maybe knights also reduce cc duration by a percentage, since 55 damage reduction will do nothing for late game...) Demons pretty much keep you from casting if you have a good comp built around them. That's their true power. The burn damage was just a bonus for me in my book.

The whole "oops, you just can't cast this battle" is pretty insane. Would be much better if it was something like "enemy loses half their mana" but then increase the proc chance to compensate.

Some interesting changes. Definitely makes me want to check stuff out again. Still think Demon should get a rework so it isn't so binary. Getting a lucky mana burn when someone is at near max mana is very big compared to getting mana burn any other time. Feels like either it is a huge swing or useless. Also, would love it if there was an anti-CC item. Something like Merc Treads or Banshee's Veil as a counter to CC heavy builds like Glacial or Sej/Cho/Morg/Kennen.

I don't expect Riot to do things with THAT high of a frequency, but SOMETHING more would be nice. It has nothing to do with "not liking" this idea. We LOVE the idea of updating old champs. Usually, we book talent for 4 hour chunks of studio time (guild minimums). While this sounds like a lot of time with an actor in the booth, it actually goes by suuuper fast, with the first hour or so being time for the director (we have a rotating roster of wonderful VO directors), actor, and writer to hone in on the character and find the voice. Then it's three hours (with breaks) to get the right takes on lines. We end with efforts (non verbals) which typically blow out the actor's voice. WE can usually record a full 150 line script in 4 hours. So to bring an actor back for a skin, doesn't really afford us much time with said actor to record an additional set of lines for base champ VO. We're looking into ways to make this happen, but then we typically run into bandwidth issues internally for folks to select, process, edit, hook up, and test the new lines IN ADDITION to the skin VO. It's one of my personal passions to redo as many old champ VOs as possible, and we're making some head way. But I would hate to promise you fine folks something that may take a long time to deliver bc we're all stretched very thin. Writers have to write a lot of new content for league. VO designers have to iterate and implement new content. Anything old we're updating is additional work we're doing on top of our normal workload. Again, it's one of my personal missions to bring as many old champs up to modern quality bar as possible. It's also super hard to do when some of our talent no longer works in the industry meaning we have to recast. Recasting tends to upset mains and we wind up seeing diminishing returns on the effort. TLDR: It's complicated, but it's a dream we do share with you :)

I'd look to bringing back VO that isn't just older champions, but those who interact with a lot of others. : Teamfight Tactics-- /Dev Update: Your Feedback and the Road Ahead
To me the damage feels very high, especially early in the game. The formula of damage with the + 2 base just seems off. Results in some super fast games where someone who gets a lot of lucky 3* units early on can crush. Plus, it feels horrible if you lose and the enemy has units all with only a few life left and you still take full damage. I know other AC games do that, but it feels even worse here considering how much damage you take. Definitely would suggest looking into that by reducing early damage and/or even late a bit.

: We're talking about possible tweaks to TFT item distribution. We do believe though that significant randomness, including variation in early power, is pretty valuable for the longeivity of the game. Examples of that in other genres are things like starting hand in Magic/Hearthstone, what you draw in poker, early loot in a Battle Royale etc. Playing from positions of strength or weakness result in a wider variety of experiences. Having said that there are some things that feel off to us at present that we're highly likely to change, likely (but not guaranteed) in 9.14. Those are: * Players should never finish the first 3 rounds without at least one item component dropping * Players should never have 6 item components from PVE after the first 3 rounds * Players should never get zero items from a later PVE round (Krugs onwards) if they kill everything

Why have it be 1-5 instead of something like 2-4? That would make it still be random, but reduce some insane swings people have, especially since the items themselves are random in what drops too (some are more useful early or later).

So... where are the Demacia Vice skins? Seems like they are gone.
: Patch 9.13 notes
RIP Pyke. Why did you want him gutted so hard in any position outside of support? Was it that problematic to the meta? I don't understand the decision behind those changes. Maybe the Q change or the E change, but BOTH the Q and E? Oooof.

Wow, prizes are getting bigger now. I remember I won this LoL contest in 2010 and got 1380 RP for first place.... lol.
: Let's call Xin Zhao 赵信 then, that won't confuse English speakers at all and it gets rid of the need to create an in-story reason for Latinization, even though it's never established that Runeterra even speaks English or a language similar to English. There's always times for suspension of disbelief and this is one of 'em IMO.

They should have spelled Xin Zhao's name phonetically since it is an interpretation of a sound.
: Look, this is not Pinyin Chinese we are talking about. This is from Native Meso-American influence. When it comes to the native languages, they do have different sounds for the x and q. When it comes to names, the designs of Ixtal and surroundings very much remind me of the Meso American culture

: In reference to Ixtal it's not from any form of Chinese, but Native Meso-American languages. As for the Xin Zhao and pronunciations in a fantasy setting you need to keep in mind the audience. All fiction needs to be written in a way we understand; which is to say, in an Earthen language. Names are a huge part of language. If fantasy names had no basis in an Earthen language they would all sound like gibberish. The reasoning for using certain languages for certain names is to imply a cultural heritage. Ionia is clearly based on Eastern Asian cultures, so we have names like Akali and Xin Zhao. Noxus and Demacia are based off of Western European cultures so we get Annie and Lux. Hope that helps :)

Even if it is based on Eastern Asian culture Pinyin came around very differently and was possibly from Cyrillic inspirations -- thus there is no counterpart in Runeterra that I've heard of ... thus it doesn't make sense to do it the way they are doing it.
: That should be blindingly obvious if you stop and think about it. Ionia is influenced by south/east Asian culture, and using existing languages or phonetics makes it more understandable, as well as conveying a theme. Nearly all fantasy does this, unless it is completely alien in setting.

Nearly all fantasy does this, unless it is completely alien in setting. Except if you actually study Pinyin and how they came up with those letters to mean the sounds they do convey you'd realize that it was fairly randomly chosen. Or possibly influenced from Cyrillic script. Since neither of those influences are in a fantasy world it doesn't make sense to spell things out non-phonetically to some degree.

Going to a makerspace today to consult with some hardware people on what parts I need to get. Should have a very basic prototype out at PAX Unplugged. =)
