: There was a Red Post a while back.
Just wanted to jump in here say a few things, but first to talk about the post itself: great job! The feedback is constructive and well written. I don't personally agree with everything being reflective of the state of how things are now, but rather the state of things year(s) ago. That said. that's just my opinion -- I don't represent the opinions of the team that this feedback is for. I know they're reading it though. I digress. I found the end state of this discussion interesting, and would like to point out a few things. 1. Because the post itself was constructive, the rest of the conversation trended the same way. Yes people disagreed with some of the feedback points, but it really didn't become uncivil at any point. Super happy about that! 2. Look at how many votes it received, and is continuing to receiving over 24 hours later. The quality of the post, in addition to others agreement of the feedback caused many Boards users to vote, and that has subsequently put it in the most visible place of the Boards for over a day. This is a testament, and should be used as an example for anyone wanting to get more visibility on their content. I [posted a blurb about why voting is important](http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/miscellaneous/tjRUtkyh-voting-on-boards-content) last month, feel free to check that out for more information about that. Thanks for the post, I hope the development team jumps in here at some point to give you their 2 cents.

: Current moderators aren't qualified enough to moderate
Hey guys, This was a stupid mistake that we regret was made. It's embarrassing. The moderator leads saw this discussion, promptly undeleted the discussion, and called me. We're still investigating the incident to see what kind of disciplinary action or coaching is required to ensure that this doesn't happen again in the future. Please accept our apologies, and thanks for calling us out on stuff like this.

: [MODERATION] Moderators should MOVE misplaced posts, not just delete them.
Hey there. Appreciate that feedback! This particular subject is one that both Pendragon and I have commented on in the past, but I wanted to jump in here to explain why we delete instead of move. The biggest thing to remember is that there's not ONE appropriate board for each piece of content posted. Typically there are several boards that would work, and you don't have to choose just one. It's a matter of relevancy as set for each board. Exceptions are illustrated in the Guidelines for each board. Anyway, here's are the most glaring reasons for why we delete verses move. 1. When content is posted, a bunch of math begins to happen behind the scenes to determine how it is sorted. As content matures (is voted on, viewed, etc) it's sorting will change. If we move something once we discover that it's inappropriate for the board it was posted it, that has an impact on the content in question, but also other content in the board it's moved to. It's fairly complicated to fully explain, but the TL;DR is that moving content causes problems. 2. Moving content is not scalable. You can give a man a fish, or teach a man to fish. Moving content for you guys wouldn't solve the problem long term, it would make it worse. Since we started deleting stuff instead of moving it, there's evidence to suggest that boards users spend more time thinking about where they post content before they do so. If it didn't matter where you posted crap because the mods would fix it, I believe we'd be digging ourselves a hole that would hurt everyone long term. 3. Returning to a board and not seeing the content you posted is jarring. This is true whether the content is deleted, or moved. We know its frustrating when you have to repost the content you spent time posting, but we try to make it as easy as possible for you by providing you with the content that was posted. I'm more than happy to go back and forth on this. In all my years of moderation, this is the first time that moving content was not a thing. It was pretty difficult for me to get used to as well, but I do believe it's the best course of action for the health of the Boards.
: The boards are still absolutely crap on most Mobile devices.
We aren't happy with how Boards works on mobile as well. This has been a huge point of feedback, and it's something we will improve, just not sure how soon that will happen at the moment.

: What's your League of Legends Origin Story?
In early 2009 I received an email from Riot Games inviting me to an event in San Francisco where a game called League of Legends would be playable. At the time I was the Editor in Chief of ZAM, and would receive invitations like this quite often. I ended up heading out to San Francisco and spent the first night having drinks with Tryndamere and Pendragon. We bonded over our love for EverQuest, and I was eventually comfortable enough to ask them why I should care about League of Legends. They looked at each other and gave me an answer akin to "just trust us, you'll see soon enough". The next morning all of the attending journalists met the Rioters in a hotel conference room. We received a quick introduction about the history of the genre, the team that built League of Legends, and of course some foundational information about the game itself. They sat us down to play our first game, and within the first couple of minutes ... I was hooked. RiotJeffJew was my trainer, and he did a great job teaching me how to play Warwick and Nunu. I played so many games, that I lost track of time and missed my return flight home. I remember emailing Tryndamere the day after the event asking him how much he wanted for an invitation to Alpha. For whatever reason they decided to trust me, and I became an active member of the testing community, as well as someone who also wrote about the game. Before leaving ZAM we created a few League of Legends videos, [only one of which](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AMDlvB2Yv0) I can still find. RiotPwyff was actually one of my writers on staff at the time. He expressed interest in playing the game as well, so I reached out again and got a few more codes for staff. He wrote some killer articles, and made League of Legends one of his main beats. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to get into League of Legends so early. The memories that I have from this game and the community will be treasured for the rest of my life.
: In pre-Riot days long past, I was on the marketing team for an up-and-coming MMO. The game was set to release in a couple of weeks, and we were hosting a party in San Franscisco to give journalists the opportunity to play our game and, hopefully, write about it. At one point in the night, when I was derpily standing next to my demo kiosk, my game client open and a brand new character standing in the tutorial, I was approached by a fashionably dressed journalist. I began making my generic marketing speech as soon as he arrived, but, unexpectedly, he interrupted me. *"Sure, this game looks cool, but you know what game I'm really into right now? League of Legends." * His off-the-cuff, unexpected sales pitch felt much more authentic than my rehearsed bullet points, so I decided to ask him more about it. Then, for the next three hours, I abandoned my professional duties and listened intently to the journalist's in-depth analysis of everything League. As my MMO character stood unloved and motionless upon his spawn point, the journalist explained every mechanic of League of Legends in meticulous detail: towers, champions, winning conditions, ganks, the existence of a jungle, and the concept of "Summoners." Before I knew it, we spent the rest of the night theorycrafting strategies for success. I hadn't even played the game yet, but was already ready to try out my epic idea: *"I bet we could get lots of kills if we teamed up as an archer and a stealth character!"* And that's what we did. As soon as the event was over, we connected on Ventrilo and played in the closed beta for about ten hours straight, attempting to perfect our Ashe/Evelyn burst combo on unsuspecting champions attempting to traverse the river. After that, I was hooked! Been playing on and off since release. :)

It's subjective. One of the reasons the General Discussion is so divided and ultimately less moderated than other Boards is because that line isn't clear. It takes a lot of talking about stuff as a team to try to define a line that we can use to ensure that the actions we take are consistent. The act of moderation is easy. Doing it in such a way that creates a consistent experience is hard. Accomplishing that in a place like GD is a constant struggle.

: Stay Positive and Don't GIve Up
I've come back to win games that were over more times than I can count on both hands. I remember there was a game that I played recently, where I had given up. I was still playing and participating, but I wasn't giving it everything I had, and was voting to surrender as often as I could. It was like 45 minutes in, all three of our Inhibs were down, we had a 15k gold disadvantage, and mid pushed up to their inhib tower. Coming back to win seemed pretty impossible. The enemy team made a huge mistake engaging Baron with 4 people up, and without clearing wards. We saw what they were doing and rushed over. We stole Baron, insta-gibbed the carry, and then got the ace with only one death. We rushed mid tower and finished off the Nexus before they had everyone back up. All of this happened in just over a minute, it was insane. I stared at my computer with my jaw on the floor for like 5 minutes before I did a victory dance. It was an incredible reminder to **never give up**.

I tend to only come to General Discussion when there is a problem to solve. I don't visit otherwise, and that's a choice that I and many other Rioters make because of the GD culture. I'm here now to understand the problem from your guys point of view. I feel like maybe you should adjust your perspective. :/ I actually have to go to bed soon because I have taken a sleeping pill because tomorrow I have a long day for me, but I will take the first paragraph as an indirect "you have been noticed, you are not too bad of a shit poster", and I will take with what I can and call it a success, thank you for the attention. I sadly do not have much of a list of things that were unfairly deleted because first of all comments that get deleted are wiped out and threads that get deleted are blank pages so I can't really show those examples, that could be one thing in general at wiping out all evidence makes it hard to defend your cases. Another thing is that when we get warned or a deleted post/thread, it would be great if we were given the link to the post/thread that was deleted or a copy of it, because otherwise it is hard to tell what we did wrong in the first place. I have several opinions about the moderation, the first one is that the people who obviously should get banned/deleted threads are somehow not being deleted at all, such as the ones that were provided, those are always there and they rarely if ever get deleted and it is obvious spam, then there are really offensive threads/posts that never get deleted too. The point is that the focus on moderating the forums is reversed, the smaller offenders get in trouble while the larger obvious offenders are rarely taken care of, it should be that the the spam threads need to be deleted much faster, it is pretty easy to spot them, titles and OP are a dead giveaway, it doesn't mean you should start over moderating too, it means you should start weeding out the really really really really obvious spam threads first, then this place won't be as bad. Last paragraph about you having a complicated role at Riot, I understand that to an extent, my bad, it is tough to have whatever job you have because people are upset at you from the start, but sometimes it is because people feel neglected, I am glad you came to acknowledge some of the things, but please do not go overboard, just go for the things that are easy targets and you don't need to visit the GD and announce it, you can just read the shit we have to deal with to get a better perspective at what we have. Few last words before I go to bed: In the future when people are upset, flaming back at them and saying harsh words or acting superior only makes people more upset, as I said in a post long ago on this thread, you are the face of the company as well as each other Riot Employee is, if you are acting badly, you harm your company's reputation, and also since you are a Riot Employee, when you verbally lash out of the customers, the customers might want to leave or get more pissed with you and start raging even more, when people rage a lot at you, it is not because we hate you, it is because we are fed up with what is happening and we feel neglected, left behind, and misunderstood, I am certain you feel actually the same feelings in a sense now and in the past, but keep in mind that you won't solve violence with more violence (shut up Katarina). With that, I am going to bed, I have an intake appointment tomorrow for a while, keep me posted Tamat, you are a human, that means you have the capacity to improve and so do we, I feel like every time we see you post it is like a soap opera, but even now I see a slight improvement in your responses to others, so keep up the good work on improving your reactions to us, I hope you will listen to us and everything and make the right choices. PS: Did Katey Khaos invite you to her wedding?

If you see a post with posts that you don't want referenced, vote it up. I want to get a gauge on what you guys feel most strongly about. Tamat, I don't think you are listening to anything we are saying, at all, and going on a delete war with all of the posts doesn't do much but make people more pissed, I already told you in the first page before you started deleting 3/4ths of the thread what the problem is, and you are acting like you never read the forums, it is loaded with religious flame wars/witch hunts/baconstripz's goat threads/rape threads, you only have to to look at the first page of the forums to see what shit we deal with. And as for the "relaxed approach" for moderation, I heavily disagree, as a lot of people said already, what I seen the mods do is close a lot of petty posts but not go for the really obvious posts/threads that are offensive, it is not relaxed, it is just completely poorly regulated and reviewed moderation. I honestly don't think that you are this oblivious to the current state of GD and want to act like a hero and clean it up for us, and if you are this oblivious, I am extremely upset that you have not been paying attention at all to your job. Oh and one more thing, deleting so many posts in this thread is in fact a major disruption to the conversation, it is in no way helping anyone out to have many warnings thrown at us saying we can get our forum accounts permabanned for trying to say something and then have it instantly deleted because you don't agree with it, that is an extreme form of censorship.

Mods deleted 3/4 of the discussion because for about 30 minutes, almost everything being posted was garbage. I saw your post, but you are one of many hundreds of voices that I want to hear before deciding anything. I read the Boards daily, but I spend little time in General Discussion because the majority of content being posted here doesn't align with content that I'm interested in. It sounds like most of you want that to change. For me to help you with that, I'm going to ask a lot of questions. You can use your energy to help me, or to accuse me of not listening. Give me an example then. Point me to content that was deleted unjustly and I'll either disagree with you and example why, or agree with you and undelete it. I understand that you have a strong opinion about how we moderate General Discussion, but unless you SHOW me why, I have a limited number of ways I can respond. > I honestly don't think that you are this oblivious to the current state of GD and want to act like a hero and clean it up for us, and if you are this oblivious, I am extremely upset that you have not been paying attention at all to your job. Despite what you may believe, my role at Riot is a tad more complex than spending all my time in General Discussion. I tend to only come to General Discussion when there is a problem to solve. I don't visit otherwise, and that's a choice that I and many other Rioters make because of the GD culture. I'm here now to understand the problem from your guys point of view. I feel like maybe you should adjust your perspective. :/

: Downvoting things because you disagree with them is one of the worst possible things you can do. That is directly the path to making only posts that the hivemind agrees with show up, instead of posts with good points or good discussion.
That's not always the case, but I do see and agree with the point you are making. Sometimes it makes sense to vote based on your agreement with a post, but that shouldn't be the rule. Like I said in the post, there's no science or standards to inform you how to vote. It should be instinctual. Vote with your heart.
: Hell, if they start making apps, they should make a boards app too
I would love a Boards app! :)
