As a tank/bruiser Karma player, do you still plan to support that playstyle going forward? How are the passive changes envisioned to fit into that, considering that a key part of that Karma playstyle is a near 100% uptime on Mantra W?
: lol what mage? have people honestly forgot about zoe?
Zoe has been highly problematic since her release precisely because the balance team hasn't figured out how to fairly distribute her damage, compounded by her lack of an actual ultimate to use for power budgeting reasons. You don't want to compare any champion to that abomination because she isn't a desirable standard of balance. Besides, I'm not even sure after the nerfs if Zoe can kill with QE if Lux had MR instead of armor. With W it seems possible, but it would depend on which active she had.
: Here's my followup question. If I have to ult everytime I want to kill a squishy as a fed assassin. Why don't I just play a mage instead?
What mage is killing a squishy in one rotation without ultimate with similar itemization? Absolutely none. You play Assassins for target access and one-shot potential. You had one-shot potential on Lux, you just didn't commit anything for it. You didn't need your ult, you literally just had to right click her as she came out of stopwatch lmao. Zed is an AD Assassin, you SHOULD have to use a couple of autos to kill somebody without your ultimate.
DZed213 (EUW)
: The lux invested 2600 gold to stop the damages of a assassins (I mean it’s his role to OS people) which invested 7500 gold to make these damages. And the problem is that i’m pretty sure that with a rotation of her spell, lux can OS (or at least 80%) the zed
No, Lux cannot one shot Zed with Q and E. If she used ultimate, it's not enough either. It is enough to chunk him yes, but she invested her ultimate. Funny enough, if Zed had invested his ultimate she would have died too. Wow, almost like champions aren't meant to one-shot with a basic rotation. Again, it's not like Zed even needed his ultimate here. Just a freaking auto attack. Zed, the champion with a lot of AD, has to auto attack somebody once to kill them after pressing WEQ. The horror. Almost like that's intentional to allow some sort of response from the enemy champion, huh? Zed's role is to one-shot. It is not to one-shot in less than a second before any sort of reaction is allowed.
: Ninja Tabi’s investment is 800g, don’t inflate the price because someone has to buy boots lmao.
Oh wow, a whole 300g off of what I said. Really changes my point huh.
: I invested 6900 gold to just kill squishies. And she didn't use her nor her shield. If I cant kill a support just because she bought boots and half an item, I might as well play a mage.
But you could if you invested your ultimate or another auto attack. No, it is not okay for a champion to one-shot people with a basic rotation in less than a second.
: Lux had a Tabi and Seeker's, plus a stopwatch as well. Seems like she was focusing on stopping that burst from the 7/3 zed with her itemization and it paid off. Looks like she's gonna die to the rest of the team anyways but we can't tell cause the clip stops.
Right, she's invested almost 3000 gold to just survive the damage of Zed. And even then, he almost kills her with just a basic rotation and no commitment. If anything, it would have been outrageous had she died to that despite her heavy investment. All Zed needed was another auto and she'd have died.
: Here's a clip of a 3/3 Lux support surviving a well executed combo from a 7/3 Zed who is 3 levels ahead. Lux played the encounter awfully yet survived the burst. Can you explain to me how this is fair?
You have this totally backwards. It would be ridiculous if Zed had managed to kill her with just his basic combo when she has built specifically to not die to him. She'd had died if he had committed another auto or his ultimate. If anything that clips tells me there is still too much upfront burst in this game lol. Zed almost killed her in less than a second and didn't commit anything to it and she had to blow a valuable active to live.

: We feel Jhin's currently pretty strong, but not sufficiently so we've got nerfs planned. His passive is giving him more speed than originally intended, particularly when combined with Hail of Blades. If he does end up needing a nerf it's one of the things we'd consider first as a result.
Good to hear it's been noted at the least, I feel that hitting Jhin with skillshots has been getting progressively more difficult due to seeming MS creep via his passive. It is a bit strange to me that an 'immobile' ADC is able to so accurately cosplay Sonic the Hedgehog. Hm, maybe that's an April Fools skin idea.
Meddler (NA)
: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: August 17
Any thoughts on Jhin? Particularly in regards to how to itemization/runes combined with his passive interaction is giving him a ridiculous amount of MS?

Aatrox sitting at 100% p/b in competitive on the current patch. Do you think it was a mistake to hotfix buff him twice so soon after release? He definitely seems like he'll need more follow-up work to power him down.
Ahpe (NA)
: 36.75% winrate tho {{sticker:zombie-nunu-tears}}
We are not doing another Aatrox. Let's stop buffing champions instantly after release and see how they end up in a patch or two hmm?
: Hi Meddler, I would like to ask if the balancing team have forgotten about the Scaling Mages? {{champion:112}} {{champion:268}} {{champion:45}} {{champion:115}} {{champion:61}} {{champion:13}} {{champion:69}} {{sticker:cass-cry}} ? Their process of farming to become the team fight damage dealer is very long, some even requires at least three to four items. There is almost only one defensive item they could get when facing a entire comp of AD assassins, that is {{item:3157}} .
Why is Orianna in there when she's in 80% of pro games with a 50% winrate in solo queue? She's more than fine rn.
Meddler (NA)
: Likely some adjustment to everything in the slot. Zombie Ward provides a lot of strong but unengaging power by extending your own wards lifespan effectively. Ghost Poro's pretty much always a bad choice. Eyeball Collector's functional, but pretty stat heavy and opts out of vision interactions a bit much. Having said that, none of those are critical problems, but would want to work on them all whenever we do make those changes to the slot.
I think Domination's minor runes need wider work in general. It's a generally unappealing tree outside of assassins and junglers. You've covered the problems with the second row, but the first row has two runes that can't be used by every champion and the one that can (Taste of Blood) is underwhelming. The bottom row has a lot of choice but the fact that its value can heavily vary from game to game makes it unreliable.

What do you think about Talon right now? He has been performing well for a while and has been a huge beneficiary of the meta. He's a lot harder for mages to deal with now thanks to the reduced mana sustain of mages and increased MR he got back in 8.4.
Meddler (NA)
: For keystones I think there's a clear need for work on Sorcery. Would like at some point (not sure what timeframe is realistic) to both do some work on Comet and get a fourth keystone in there. For non keystones Precision and Domination I think are the two trees most in need of work. Domination's vision related slot especially needs some work, while Precision's too lacking in meaningful choices (pretty solved on many of its users). In terms of what time I post these, I normally try to be consistent. Sometimes though if I've got a meeting or whatever so I need to get to work earlier than usual I'll put one up earlier.
Is this new Sorcery keystone going to be something to better compliment DoT playstyles/replace Deathfire Touch? That seems to be the area that is most lacking post-rune update.
: What is sorcery lacking in terms of keystones?
Not a Rioter but I'd say the lack of Deathfire Touch alternative that better compliments DoT playstyles (Rumble for instance). Comet has its CD reduction but it doesn't really hit that mark. DoT champions for the most part are not picking it up.
: Heya! Not Meddler, but I've been working on Sterak's with Lowbo. Yorick's the main champ on our radar for Sterak's compensation (if we decide to go through with the Base>Bonus change, it's still a bit contentious). Me and Yorick's designer (SolCrushed) have been talking about what changes we can make to open Yorick's ability to itemize offensively when it makes sense. Won't go into details because it's all very speculative still, but we've got some options we're excited about it if Sterak's goes through. edit: Misspelled 'Lowbo' as 'Lobow,' rip.
Have you given any thought to other champions r.e. Sterak's compensation?

I posted about this on the last QGT, but got no response. When exactly are you planning to come back to Lissandra? It seems like once again you've given her some rather minor number buffs as compensation for 'we couldn't find a good passive direction'. This exact same thing happened last year, and it didn't fix anything. Is Lissandra going to have to wait another year before she gets any meaningful passive changes? It's becoming a reoccurring pattern of 'try something, doesn't ship, give minor buffs, leave for rest of season'.
Meddler (NA)
: Still planned, but taking a while. Going to try some different stuff when time permits, for now there's a lot else I'm having to prioritize first though. The Live team concluded some straight power buffs in the meantime were therefore needed too.
With due respect, is this not more or less what you said last year this same topic came around? The objective was to make some wider changes to LIssandra including passive (the stacking auto attack damage idea), but in the end those were scrapped and instead some very minor power buffs were given to her. Now here we are a year later, and the same thing seems to have happened again. I hope we aren't going to have to wait another year for these Lissandra changes, only for them to not come again. It is getting a bit ridiculous now, think the champion deserves better than to be put on the back burner for so long. If you really can't come up with a direction, then how about some more significant number buffs than what she gets? How about restoring that 200 health at 18 she lost in Season 6?
: It's a direction we could look into. There's also a bit of a question as to whether we're supposed to be increasing waveclear for champions like Lux, or reducing waveclear for champions on the top of the waveclear charts to be closer to her. The better gameplay could be the latter.
Please choose the latter. Waveclear creep has defined mid lane for at least the past two seasons, with higher waveclear champions constantly pushing out lower waveclear ones due to how central waveclear has become to the metagame. Bringing down overall waveclear would be a good thing for mid diversity, particularly in regards to increasing relative viability of mid lane assassins (the biggest losers of the priority on waveclear at higher elo).

Thoughts on how Rumble is performing after the item changes?
Vicimus (NA)
: They shouldn't have increased the time allowed for Q2. She's supposed to be a high skill, precise champ.
Agreed, it's too forgiving. It's only 0.5 seconds but I've gotten Q2 off in many many more situations now than I did before the buff. That and the shield buff can just be reverted entirely imo.

Thoughts on Camille at present? She's doing really well in solo queue and professional play. I really love the champion but she could probably use a tap.

: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: January 26
Does the team have any thoughts on Rumble in the new season? Seems like every rune change is an indirect nerf to him. Aery nerfs, Scorch nerfs, now Stopwatch nerfs when he's not overperforming in any way.

Since top lane is on the menu for this QGT, any thoughts on Rumble currently?
Meddler (NA)
: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: January 16
Has Rumble popped up at all in your discussions? He hasn't felt the same since DFT was removed. Runes that he was using like Aery/Scorch and Sorcery in general got nerfed and he's kind of suffered as a consequence.
: I am a toplaner. I play pretty much everything, though Shen/Rumble/Camille are my most played as far as toplane goes.
Speaking of Rumble, how do you feel about him going into Season 8? He's always been a good champion just because of his kit, but it feels as if he's taken some indirect nerfs throughout preseason and I find him a bit underwhelming right now.

Sorry if not entirely related, but who is responsible for a champion's state of balance on release? Is that your team or the champion design team?

: Patch Chat with the Playtest Team - 7.24
General question: how versed is the playtest team in their off-roles? Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but around 50% of the playtest team appear to be mid mains (based on non-scientific stalking) with the remaining 50% or so being split between the other four roles which to me seems rather imbalanced. Does this effect your ability to provide feedback on other champions or roles?

Do you have any thoughts on Fighters in the preseason, particularly those that really liked Fervor and aren't finding similar success with Press the Attack or another keystone?

: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: May 4
Hi Meddler, Any thoughts on how the crit/lifesteal itemization changes may have benefited certain champions too much? Champions like Yasuo getting essentially a free kill early on may throw their balance out of whack.
Meddler (NA)
: We might have some Graves nerfs in 7.10. Not sure yet on Lee Sin, though being discussed.
If you nerf anything about Lee Sin, it should be his ultimate cooldown. Lee Sin normally has around 30% CDR in a build, and his ultimate is up all the time in the mid-game. It's very frustrating for Lee to use it to escape being caught out, and then have it about a minute later for a big fight. Needs to be punished for using it flippantly.

How does the team determine which champions are worthy of attention? Do you spend some time every week looking at stats and picking out outliers, or is it something more than that? Essentially, how does the process of champion evaluation work? Basically, how do champions on the (weak) side show up on your radar?
Meddler (NA)
: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: March 28
Hey Meddler, I was wondering if the balance team has any current thoughts on Diana? She appears to be performing really poorly in the jungle, and isn't doing so hot in mid lane either. Is there no perceived problem or is she in line for an evaluation?
Rioter Comments
Meddler (NA)
: We will be reverting Grievous Wounds so that it affects all healing again. That should be happening in 6.9, not sure exactly when it's due to hit PBE.
So, can you also revert Wish so that it removes Grievous Wounds again? The whole point of the debuff removal was so that Wish would heal the maximum amount it could (and it should, it's an ultimate). It didn't prevent the reapplication of Grievous Wounds, it simply ensured that this one spell every 120~ seconds or so was having the full impact it should.
: Agreed. Other similar spells tend to have little things about them that change situation to situation--Karthus Q trying for isolation, Ziggs Q's bounces, etc. Zyra's Q doesn't have as much of that as we might like.
Not every spell needs to have an interesting mechanic. Zyra already has a lot to manage with her plants, it's okay to have other parts of her kit be simple so she can focus on managing her core aspect. Trying to put mechanics on every spell leads to kit overload. Some of your newer champions have paragraphs for describing one ability - it's excessive. Don't over complicate her just for the sake of it being 'interesting'.

: Mid-Year Mage Update
Surprised no Lux/Ziggs/Xerath. Those champions are relatively similar in how they play, so I thought they would be prime candidates for mini-reworks to differentiate how they play.
: Hard Main: Annie Bot, Challenger Annie Main
Cool idea for a series. Would love to see Irelia Carries U (Irelia) or Shakarez (Kayle, though don't think he solely mains her anymore as he's trying to go pro).
