: Visual and Sound Effect Updates: Gragas
Two notes: 1) The hard red line on the Q explosion radius indicator being present immediately interferes with the color language of his barrel "cooking" - where before when you saw a flash of red you knew that your barrel would do maximum damage, now there's immediately red and you need to focus specifically on the center to get the information you need. I don't know if it's possible to shade the explosion indicator to follow the same color progression as the barrel's timer, but that would be the best possible case. You might also be able to use the thickness of the indicator as a similar cook timer (e.g. 1px/2px/3px for instant/halfway/full damage). 2) If Oktoberfest Gragas is getting specific updates, would it be possible to reinstate the trail of lost pretzels on his Body Slam? It was a fun and whimsical part of the skin that was removed in his original VFX update. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQtu7xkHtjU#t=47 Thank you for taking the time to do these! :)

This ended up being a TLS misconfiguration at a higher network level.
: Given many of the steps you have taken already in an attempt to solve this, I'm hoping to dig a little deeper into the issue. At what point during the Patching Process do you get the error at? Is there a specific percentage it occurs at? Let me know!
This error occurs immediately upon launching the lol_launcher.exe for me. The top progress bar will display either 0 or 1 files analyzed, and stay there. I also tried repair (twice) which behaves as expected, but then immediately fails to patch. I also tried the server locale swap in two different locations.
: read my comment and hope it fixes the issue
Appreciate the thought - I tried it (launch -> cancel error box -> select different server -> attempt to patch), and saw the same result (the client thought really hard, then eventually threw an error message). Starting up with a different server also didn't work. :(

: Patch Chat with Playtest - Patch 6.4
I've been trying to make Illaoi work for a while (her kit and theme are incredibly fun, and when things go well and you create a tentacle nest of death she's super satisfying). However, it feels like the character needs too much in the way of itemization (damage to take advantage of her ratios and be threatening, tankiness to be able to survive to press her buttons more than once, and CDR for similar reasons as tankiness), and I struggle to leverage the payoff on creating a Vessel when I do land my E. Combine that with the lack of mobility and deliberate basic attack, and it's feeling like a Sisyphean struggle most games. Any tips or tricks you can offer on making tentacles scary in a world full of Lucians, Ezreals, and other champions who are a little more 'in motion' than the Kraken Priestess?
Rioter Comments
: Mid Year Mage Updates - Malzahar Direction
I feel guilty, because the emotional reaction I have to your summary of changes is as a fairly dedicated Malz player is "you're taking away the element that makes me able to compete in the modern mobility-focused game (the one-round assassin pattern), making him harder to play (AP Malz dependent on voidlings), and promising he'll be safe somehow as compensation (not at all the fantasy of the immobile character who's throwing around raw void energy and murdering everything in uncontrolled fashion - my safety should be people not wanting to get close to me because I emit damage like a neutron star)." Trying to step back and unpack that emotional reaction into reasonable questions: with regards to the goals - if you plan on removing his assassin pattern (eminently reasonable given how potent it can be), and increasing the dependence on predictable/time-linked elements of his kit (the voidlings), what's the plan of attack for preserving his anti-assassin strengths given that all of their stuff is essentially 'on-demand' and he still won't be able to compete with them roaming aground the map? I don't think that just Nether Grasp is enough in a world where his combo doesn't threaten to one-round his opposition when they jump on him. I'm also very glad to see you're on-board with keeping his E gameplay mostly intact - to me what makes Malzahar fun is the idea that you're a disruptive force channeling somewhat uncontrolled magic (E and Voidlings have a mind of their own, W and Q are both delayed AOEs), and the only times where you truly get to focus it (R) requires such focus that you're also immobilized by it. Regardless of what the outcome is, I do appreciate the transparency and willingness to engage with the community. {{sticker:zombie-nunu-hearts}}
: Patch Chat with Playtest - Patch 6.3
With the new assassin item, it feels like enemy compositions are much more likely to end up with mostly AD damage threats. What are your non-direct armor scaling champion recommendations (e.g. if they've banned Malphite or Rammus) for handling the storm of swords and punishing over-commitment to a single damage type?

: [INTRO] James "Statikk" Bach - Champion Update Design Lead
When evaluating champions that are being reworked, how do you address stark contrasts in satisfaction on an ability (where the player using the ability gets a lot out of it and feels really good, but the recipient feels like it was cheap/unfair/too easy)? What, if anything, changes when the ability in that scenario is one of the defining characteristics of the kit being updated? How do you and your team approach the problem of choosing what to preserve or and what to rework from elements of a character's existing fantasy?

: 2016 Season Update Discussion
Are in-game groups communicated through the UI? (e.g. if I am the solo member with a party of 4 as the others, is there a visual indicator that shows me these four people are in a party?)
: Balance Team Q+A #2 - Ask Us Anything (Again!) [COMPLETE]
Can you talk a little bit about how the team approaches mana and cooldown gating when evaluating a champion's strengths, weaknesses, and play pattern? In particular, I'm curious about cases where the gate is essentially added or removed almost entirely (Eve W 0->40, Braum Q cost fluctuation being two recent examples), and what the thought process is behind making that hard call. In the same vein, how do you value usability changes (e.g. skilshot width/Zyra plant AI) relative to numeric increases in power?
: Balance Team Q+A: Ask Us Anything! [COMPLETE]
I love hearing about how people think about problems and communicate organizational knowledge, so I'm curious. Can you talk about some of the balance moments or stories that the team uses to teach new people, or looks back upon as great examples of changes that made the champion better/more fun/more balanced in a way that was a win for both the team and the playerbase?
: Pentakill Q&A
The album seems uniquely inspired by hair metal - were there particular bands that acted as an inspiration?
: Hey Wodin, 1. Fixed width is likely a stop-gap solution that gets the new community platform matched with the rest of the site theme. However, we are exploring a number of responsive solutions and you will likely see changes to the layout over time as we study usage and experiment. If you have a great idea, feel free to start a new discussion. 2. We went back and forth with the treatment of that. We want to make sure that the metadata on a post is visually distinct from the actual comment contents. However, I am very sensitive to readability issues, so if you are seeing a problem I would love to take a look. Do you mind posting a screenshot of what the italics look like on your system? 3. Yep, thanks for the report on this. We're aware of a couple issues with the live preview, and I we're tracking any bugs we see. More eyes always helps [fist bump]
Spiffy, good to know that the width is mostly temp! I don't have any easy solve, it was just a very jarring transition and I personally do much better with horizontal content than heavily verticals. With regard to #2, here's a screenshot (http://i.imgur.com/V01B8Ea.png) of what it looks like for me. The particularly jarring bits are the two different sizes of italic font right next to each other [the timestamp and the subject) and the fact that the subject is lighter than the timestamp, so my eyes are drawn to the timestamp first despite it being subjectively a much less important piece of information. My personal preference would promote the subject up into the space currently occupied by Show Parent so there was a clear, visually delineated space where the subject was always going to be, and then using a darker, bolded font. I faked a quick prototype (http://i.imgur.com/lF8YWaQ.png) that is obviously pretty hideous but should convey the idea.
: We're the team behind the Community Beta, Ask Us Anything!
[Feedback] A couple of questions with regards to UX decisions in the overall layout of the page. 1. What's the reasoning behind the narrow fixed width? The left-hand column that lets us jump between subcommunities is incredibly useful, but it eats up a ton of space that was previously filled with content on previous forums. Because the content is restricted to a 620px column (down from 740 on the old site) it feels like there's a lot more vertical stretch. 2. This is definitely more feedback than a question, but what drove the heavy use of italic text for the timestamp and topic fields of the Red Tracker? It ends up making it very hard to read, and at least for the particular way I use the Red Tracker, obfuscates the most important pieces of information (the topic where the post is being made). 3. The scroll bar in the preview window behaves somewhat inconsistently when making a post, and the real-time preview will often end up not tracking the cursor at all. Would it be possible to ensure that when data is being entered in the editing field, the new data is always visible? [Replication case - enter a longer post like this one, then scroll midway (such that you've made a change to where you're viewing, but the new content will be visible). Keep typing, and the new text in the preview window will scroll out rather than following what you're typing.] Thanks for putting this together and answering our questions. It's always a pleasure seeing the extent of your interaction with the community.
