Any thoughts on Nunu so far? Too weak, too strong, or working as desired?

Nothing helps you unwind like trying to cross-section leaves with a razor blade /s.
: Hello!
Thursday's been alright so far. About to leave for my night lab class, once that's done it'll be even better.
: I suggest you to try them out anyway to know they strong/weak points
I'll fiddle around with them in practice tool and customs, but unless I have a party of friends who can secure for me or something, I don't get my hopes up that I'll be able to get them on any given game.
: Me: Oh boy the Nunu rework is out, I can't wait to try him-
Personally, whenever a new champion/rework comes out, I don't even bother trying to play them for about a week or so. It lets the hype die down, and I can learn from watching the successes/failures of other players trying them out.
: @Riot. GUI item slot bug
I noticed this bug a couple times over the last few days. I mostly saw it when I was playing Jhin, but I don't know if that's because he's more prone to it or just my own inconsistent attention. I've seen it happen with control wards as well as potions.
: I don't look for the particles I just look at him because when he ults he gets huge like when Volibear ults.
Yeah, that's the usual indicator for me. Also present but a little less eye-grabbing is that the victim shrinks in size for the duration.
: Trolls are already magical creatures connected to the land. Iceborn is a term for a type of magically gifted **human**.
Gotcha, thanks for the clarification! I just want to say, it's really awesome seeing rioters answering little lore detail questions like mine around here. Please keep it up, we really appreciate it!

: Favorite/least favorite Running animation in League
Favorite is probably Kled. The chaotic dashing on Skaarl-back fits the character perfectly. Least favorite's gotta be Blitzcrank. The giant metal golem swinging his huge metal arms around like they're hollow and made of cardboard just seems off. I know that it's kind of popular as a meme, so maybe that's just me. I would be 100% in favor of spicing up some of the poorer animations.
: What all do we know about Trolls?
Just based on the Olaf vs Everything comic, and Trundle's splash art, trolls are MUCH larger than humans. I don't think you could run them as a player race, they wouldn't fit in most buildings. I ran into similar problems when I toyed with the idea of a giant/ogre player character. Granted the comic is not necessarily canon but I assume the splash art is. I really like the idea of a LoL-universe D&D campaign though, good luck!

: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: March 9
Tried to ask this last time, but was too slow: After the buffs in 8.4, how's {{champion:122}} looking?
: You have to change your end goal. Gnar has better mobility than you, better team fighting than you, and in his mega form is even a better duelist for a decent part of the game. What I do is focus heavily on managing the wave and trying my best to CS perfectly. I go Doran's Shield and Second Wind for the extra sustain, and make sure he doesn't get an opportunity to hit me when I don't have minions around. You see, when you are auto attacked by another champion your minions change target for at least a moment if your opponent is in range. This slowly pushes the lane toward you, since your minions are not attacking his minions, but his minions are still focused on your own. If the Gnar player pokes you a bit but doesn't go all out aggressive ham on you this can be used to keep the wave in a favorable spot in lane. Also keep in mind your E doesn't draw minion aggro, and lets you pass through units. You don't actually have to hit with your Q to win a trade with minions around. I also subscribe to the old potion master mindset. The last game I played against Gnar not only did I have the Doran's/Second Wind combo, but I purchased 9 health potions. I probably need to get used to a refillable, but it doesn't have the same staying power as five health potions in your inventory does. So coupling good wave management, high sustain, and the knowledge that I shouldn't be going for many kills I can stall things out to the point where the Gnar player feels pressured to make something happen. Garen is a punisher, and is wonderful at waiting for the opponent to make mistakes. If Gnar can't push you out of lane with boomerangs alone he will become more aggressive, and that's when you can actually fight him. Just make sure to ward so you don't get spooked by the jungler. [Here's a link to the last game I played against Gnar.]( [And since it's more in line with the thread here's a link to the last game I played against Sion.]( For all matchups the most important thing is practice, but tips and tricks can help you get at least a small edge.
Interesting, thanks for the advice! I'm still probably never gonna pick Garen into Gnar, but it's good to know that I can potentially use my ban for something else.
: So, something to keep in mind is those win rates show the average. On most sites that show League stats there are two win rates displayed for each champion. One is just the baseline average for the rank level being viewed, and the other shows what experienced players and mains have on that champion. They don't typically show the main win rate on the countered page unfortunately. I pick Garen into him, and I have also played Garen since I started back in season 1. I'm not a high elo player, but my matchups with Garen often stray from the average. On [LoLalytics]( Sion's listed win rate against Garen is 51.81%, and on [League of Graphs]( Garen is listed as having a 4% lower win rate when against Sion. []( shows something similar. On League of Graphs in particular Garen has an average win rate of 49%, with Garen mains having a win rate around 56%. Now, there is a lot of room for error here, partly from me being meh with statistics, but the difference between the main win rate and average win rate gives a lot of wiggle room for people who main a champion to beat matchups that, on average, they should lose. My personal experience matches this, and I pick Garen into all sorts of nonsense that should work against me. My favorite matchups are actually against Gnar and Quinn. Now, I'm not saying Garen is a good pick into Sion by any means. The average win rates for players who don't main Garen specifically say he's not a good pick. Plus you linked a comment from a professional player, and Garen is by no means competitive in the pro scene. I can get a way with a lot here, with Doran's Shield, Second Wind, and if the enemy has a lot of AP and Sion builds tank Spectre's Cowl, just as most Juggernauts can, but I have that extra edge of maining a champion who _can_ do well against him. Now that I think about it I'm not sure what I'm saying here, but hopefully you understand my personal perspective on laning against Sion.

I'm sorry to hijack your conversation, but I have to ask, how do you fight Gnar as Garen? I consider myself a fairly solid Garen player, I had a 73% win rate on him last season, and I can't fight that matchup to save my life. Any tips you'd be willing to share?

After the buffs, how's {{champion:122}} looking?
Rioter Comments
: Yes, but in that context, Qui-Gon is dead by the time Luke exists. What exactly does that mean in LoL? Dead characters? People younger than they are in the lore?
Well, it's unclear whether or not some characters _exist_ at all. For instance, {{champion:201}} and {{champion:240}} are folk heroes of their respective nations, but not all folk heroes are/were actually real people. Also, {{champion:201}} 's [story]( is a bedtime story told by someone's grandmother, who heard the story from _her_ grandmother. So either {{champion:201}} has been dead for a few generations, or he's immortal (or at least ageless, or at the very least not a normal flesh-and-blood human), or he never existed at all.
: I don't know if a number has ever been put out there. I suggested, anecdotally, it might be <10% of the mortal population (be that humans, or whatever else) and no one in that particular Rioter discussion disagreed. But that's far from canon! :-) You then have species like the vastaya, who are very connected to magic. Or demons, which are purely spiritual forms. Or ageless space dragons, who... well, you get the idea! Those races skew the average in certain ways, in certain places, at certain times. Ionia is far more magical than Noxus, and Demacia is profoundly anti-magic (in theory). I'd say... think of it in terms of "how likely is it that a random person in the real world has met someone who owns an iPhone?" Because although there are countless diehard Apple fans across the world, the brand doesn't have as much market presence in some countries/cultures, or some people just prefer Android, some people don't have a phone at all, etc. In your lifetime? Sure, you probably met at least one iPhone owner. But that could just be where you live, or how wealthy you are, etc. It's all relative. So yes, confirmed. Smartphones = real world magic. ;-)
Oh, wow, that's a really interesting way to put it. Thanks for the answer!
: It's an interesting topic, whichever way you slice it... I always remind myself: magic users are probably a very small percentage of the overall population of Runeterra, and *champions* in LoL are only the ~140 most exceptional beings in the entire setting (although that number is rising!) League of Legends, the game, is a team-based abstraction of the lore. When I play X-Wing, I don't think I am playing a canonical Star Wars ship battle - just a competitive game fantasy based on it. :-) And the moment we start looking at lore in a _"My dad could beat up your dad!"_ way, the authenticity rapidly diminishes. It's not even entirely clear whether all the LoL champions exist at the same time in the lore, although we're trying to clarify that more and more as we go on. For a real world analogy, Julius Caesar couldn't get into a team fight with Ronda Rousey, f'rinstance. None of this should affect how each player chooses to enjoy the lore or the game, though!
Do we have any estimate of how many people are magic users on Runeterra? Obviously they're a minority, but I'm curious how significant a number they are. For instance, how likely is it that a random person's met a magic user in their life?

: The new keystone we're working on (which should be a good choice on a lot of fighters, but isn't a fighter specific keystone) won't be ready for 8.4 unfortunately. We'd hoped it would, but it hasn't been working as hoped. Aiming for 8.6 as a result, hopefully PBEing during the 8.5 cycle to get additional feedback.
Just wanted to clarify, is it going to be replacing one of the existing keystones, or just a new addition?
: "I'd rather have a toxic teammate than a bad one"
: I think he means the Lulu seemingly leading the enemies to the Teemo hiding for backdoor.
Huh, rereading this I think you're right. In that case, I don't really know. On one hand, [never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.]( On the other...that seems pretty blatant to me. I'm not really sure what to call it.

: Need Clarification about Inting
You're fine. I'm pretty sure there's a difference between sacrificing yourself with a constructive goal in mind (for instance, dying early in a teamfight as {{champion:30}} or {{champion:14}} to take advantage of your passive), a risky play going wrong and making you look stupid, and just running down the lane and dying constantly.
: dint kog just come out..
Fairly recently, but I'm still curious if there are any planned for the next few months, or 2018 in general.

Can we just repeat this mission once a week forever from now on? It could keep going after Worlds, give people a tiny amount of essence or something. Anything to get people to buy control wards.

: Probably for the best. Treeline is a bloody mode, so stacking it to full would happen really quickly in most matches, which would likely be too strong if it went up to the same bonus it does at max on rift.
Fair enough. I just figured I'd draw some attention to it in case it was unintentional or an oversight.

: What if it's not "third party"? I.E. if a player writes a script for personal use, will they still be banned? My gut says yes, but the phrasing is a bit sketchy.
I'm not 100% sure on the semantics of it, but I think the player creating it would be considered the "third party" in that situation. It's still a script, so I think it would be ban-worthy.
: Poppy was once a strong, determined, respectable Yordle with a purpose and honour. "Valoran will know harmony." "Their defeat is non-negotiable!" "If it will bring peace." But now... "I'm in one-hundred-percent! That's everything, right?" "Just had a thought - three pigtails!" "I could really go for a nap." "Know what I could use? A cart." "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, uh... hammer!" "And the Freljordian says, "I'll drink anything, so long as-" Wait, hold on, let me start over." "Shieldy." "Whoa. You went far." "Wait, what did I come back for?" Poppy is a literal dumb blonde, absent-minded, oblivious, lazy Yordle with a George Bush reference to amplify just how dumb she is. A George Bush reference ffs! The cringe is so hard while playing her cause it's like every quote is either. "Hey, notice my lore? Hey hey? Did you read my lore? Well, just remember I'm pretty stupid and oblivious." "Hey, hey about the lore again! In case you didn't read it, I'm very one dimensional. Oh and oblivious." "Hey, hey, hey! Are you going to go read my lore? Just listen to all this stuff I'm saying, go read it! Please go read it." And from time to time, "Oh, this isn't in the lore, but I'm kinda lazy too." And why?! Dumb brute trope is already taken! {{champion:48}}
Trundle isn't really dumb though. That was a big point in his lore that he isn't as stupid as most other trolls are. He's much more intelligent and manipulative. His quote from the lore is "Outsmart anyone you can't beat, and beat anyone you can't outsmart." He's not a genius or anything, but I don't think he fits the dumb brute trope.

: Sure, you may think he has no counterplay, but perhaps you're not very experienced playing him, and therefore aren't familiar with his weaknesses. However, despite your misgivings, Tahm is in a really good place right now and any changes would tip him lower and out of viability. c:
I've played as and against Tahm a lot, in both top and support roles. I love the guy, he's one of my favorite champions, but I think some nerfs would be reasonable. It's a bit too easy right now to just chain Qs and Ws to prevent people from getting away. Overall, for a tank, he's extremely good at dueling situations, especially in top lane where your opponent is (usually) melee range. I really don't think he's on the edge and only just barely viable.

: I sure do miss Team Builder :(
It was pretty much the only mode I played. The last few seasons I mostly played top lane, and I enjoyed being able to reliably get my role. Dynamic looks pretty good in theory as well, but it's a bit frustrating that they got rid of Teambuilder and Dynamic, the replacement, immediately got disabled. Once Dynamic is working, I won't mind having lost Teambuilder, but in the meantime it's pretty annoying.
