: A Comparison Regarding Damage From Season 8 And Season 4
This was well done. I didn't realize the difference was that big.
: A Response to Doublelift on a Constantly Evolving Game
I appreciate the response and the tone, but this response was overall discouraging for me. As a crit adc player, I will be leaving the game uninstalled. His belief that adcs had power over bot-lane seems very out of touch. That was the support. Having little agency in lane and just trying to avoid getting wrecked is something that adcs had to and have had to accept for years now. So hearing that adcs are the enemy who need to lose more power is pretty awful. I also am disappointed to hear that he believes that adcs are on their way to ok now. Yup. I will leave the game uninstalled over that. If anyone from the balance team reads this, maybe actually learn about what crit adcs are, why they are and what their fantasy is before balancing them for Hashinshin again. Your changes have been regrettable. Maybe also try to put new metas in by making new strategies strong instead of crushing old ones.

http://lolalytics.com/champion/Vayne/ is another champion who definitely does not build bc. If they are high armor tanks, people build lw, not bc. Note that these stats are from plat+ players, but are also true if you tell the system to only use diamond+ players. She gets far more tank melting from ie+zeal items+her w than she would from bc. Another point worth considering is how terrible it is to have more than one bc on a team. It's value is already pretty mediocre unless you have ways to abuse it as your first item. It's honestly definitely not worth it if your bruiser top or jungle built. As an adc not named lucian or mf, it is still not worth if no one bought it, but that is beside the point.

Bork>BC Was a top tier ashe build for a bit a couple patches ago. I think it has fallen out of favor after the bork nerf though. The other guy is right though. Adcs don't build bc often (with a couple exceptions, namely lucian and mf). They also rarely get to over 2.0 attack speed. It can and does happen, but most games it doesn't. Especially if they waste gold on a bc. Especially Kog. Kog does not build bc. His current builds are built around either taking of his w (which is magic damage) or doing ie builds (which still don't build bc). If you would like to see pick rates for his most popular items and builds, here http://lolalytics.com/champion/KogMaw/ You will notice a complete lack of bc in any of his builds. The few (1.58%) of kogs who do build armor pen, buy ldr apparently. Anyway, all that to say, adcs do not use or abuse bc (except lucian and mf). Feel free to do research on the point and find one who does if you would like to prove me wrong. I won't mind.
: Fight with Honor on PBE!
so, with keys being moved to a behavior reward (exclusively? please confirm or deny), I would appreciate it if you removed the decaying rate of receiving keys so that you can't tell in the last week of the 30 days why you keep not getting keys. Is it because people don't like you (these words are not making me like the system)? Or is it because you are in the decay period which is invisible to the player?
Simurgh (NA)
: If you mostly play in premades, your behavior is already probably pretty good, so I would expect you'd find no problems making significant progress through the system. That being said, the person who is the bastion of calm and positivity in SoloQ will probably find themselves recognized more frequently via flair and climbing faster, since receiving Honors in those queues is more difficult than if you're just playing with your buddies. As for your second question, we want to approach behavior in League from multiple angles. Positive reinforcement can be just as effective as punishment in many cases.
His point is that if your premade votes don't count or mostly don't count, and you don't play with pubs, then how do you make progress through the system?

: Quick Gameplay Thoughts: Feb 28
Could you explain what the design goals of lethality were? I fail to understand why flat armor pen would be designed so it's high point is late game. Don't most natural users of flat armor pen (specifically ad assassins) want/need flat armor pen to have access to most of it's power as early in the game as possible? Doesn't putting lethality's power curve opposite that force it into a situation where it is almost impossible to balance as it needs to be strong at it's lowest point to be worth buying? Is this an attempt to make flat armor pen good versus tanks as well?
Meddler (NA)
: I'm not personally confident there are big enough differences, besides power curve and items, between AD caster, lane bully and crit marksmen. How they get power, and when they exert it, are different, tools on their kits are closer than those between other subclasses comparisons though. Utility marksmen are a big more discreet in terms of what they bring to a team, even then though they generally do regular marksmen things otherwise, just somewhat less so generally.
How about play-style as a distinguisher? AD caster sits a screen away from the fights (or more) and casts long range abilities and benefits from the meta where auto-attacking is arguably a mistake. On the other hand, crit marksmen have a play-style based on auto-attacking and having said autos feel good. Lane bully is harder to distinguish from the other two and may have some overlaps. Utility is not. It's play-style is press r (or e if you are caitlyn) at appropriate times and watch.... maybe flash r. I suspect that with my distinctions lane bully is less identifiable as it can be auto based or caster based (or ex lane bully in the case of cait). I might also change crit marksmen to auto attack marksmen. I think you can get some more meaningful distinctions if you categorize them as auto-attacker, caster and utility (with some overlap because of utility creep). Maybe you look for diversity within those sub roles by looking at power curve. I also believe that my distinctions have fairly distinct sources of power. AAers get power from attack based items (ad, as, crit and well, armor pen is weird now, so whatever is working there). Casters get power from caster items (flat ad and cdr... and lethality seems like it has a reverse power curve of what a caster wants, but is strong enough it doesn't matter, whatever your latest of iteration of flat armor pen should be on this list). They also get power from increased ranks on their primary damage spells (varus q and jhin r). Utility adcs are generally effective even without items. They just need levels 6 or 11, and a secondary emphasis on levels for base stats and some type of items for whatever they do after they have pressed r. As a side note, by my categories, you guys have overdone making sure casters feel good to play in bot lane and have gotten into the habit of putting utility on all champs as a means of creating identity. So casters are a bit over-the-top atm and utility overlaps with everything a little bit. And it is the aaers that you guys have been negligent to. And I would also argue that players that both have the fantasy of playing mechanically intensive auto-attack based champions (both melee and ranged) and an interest in playing effectively (read playing champions that increase, not decrease, their odds of winning) have been slowly, but surely disenfranchised by your unintentional neglect.
: @riot, please dont force ziggs out of botlane
As an ex adc main, my biggest issue with ziggs bot is that it feels like it is reflective of how thoroughly riot has disenfranchised adcs. I would be fine with adcs feeling good bot and ziggs feeling good bot. However, since ziggs is being played because adc feels bad.... I am not sure I am for it. However, I would rather Riot return agency to adcs instead of nerf ziggs bot.

: on the ADC side, i would say because they buy Bezerkers before teamfights really happen. by the time they realized that you are jumping on them (not the Mid), and the team doesnt peel, they already bought their tier 2 boots. on your side, I dont understand why they dont get the Zephyr. Its a great item after your LW, especially if youre dying too much from being CCed. A Bloodthirster doesnt help if you die before autoattacking.
tenacity is only valuable against teams with low cc and low dive when you are an adc. otherwise, decreasing a cc from 2 to 1.3 seconds doesnt change how dead you are. qss does the job better and costs less and when upgraded to mercurial, gives more useful stats. and for the record, if an adc doesnt expect to get dived, he is either naive or having a really bad game or is at low elo. getting dived is not a surprise.
Drukyul (NA)
: > A Bloodthirster doesnt help if you die before autoattacking. Yeah it does, that's the whole point of the shield.
the shield is the worst part of the BT. bt was useless until they buffed it to the point where it was good without the shield.
: Yes and No. If your AD went 100% tank items it would make them way more tanky too. But the bottom line is there is a balance (as you already know), and the opportunity cost of not buying {{item:3006}} is too great. To help relieve this you need a support to help peel.
this. also, quicksilver is a far better choice for adcs than merc treads.

: This right here is the problem. The issue with Last Whisper isn't how efficient it is against just tanks. It's how efficient it is against *everyone* and that just makes it worse than it should be for tanks.
MrSc0tty (NA)
: A quick guide for why people have a problem with last whisper.
Riot has already made it clear that they want to change void staff and last whisper. It may be awhile, but it is on the "list." soon. TM. Side note, it seems to me that if you are only getting 91% gold efficiency for an item, it better have something to make up for it. As in, Essence Reaver is at 117% without its passive, and it is still a dubious on all but a few champs (jayce I am looking at you). Anyways, from an adc point, Ryan is right, if you are playing against nontanky characters, lw isn't doing that much for you. A bloodthirster is generally a better third buy. Unless you expect someone to have 200 armor by the time you finish your bt. From an assassin viewpoint, why wouldn't you buy all the armor pens?
: No, I love playing Darius, he is my favorite champion in the entire game and is the reason I got hooked into league. It's just that the balance of this game is so fucking bad right now that just taking a ranged champ top will bully melees harder than Darius or Renekton while being safe AND having their own escapes to boot. Not to mention they scale harder than both of them.
Darius is countered by many range champs and counters many melee champs. It is a part of nature right now and evidence of his bad design. When you choose to play darius your are accepting that fact. There are plenty of melee champs that dont have said issues. Also, ranged champs are, as a general rule of thumb, sacrificing something to be ranged. If you want to have a more in depth conversation, you should probably specify beyond "ranged" and "melee." Those words are far too inclusive of way too many different character types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. If you would like to discuss whether certain types of champs are strong or weak, that can be a healthy conversation. For instance, I would claim that most bruisers are weak right now. With the notable exceptions of Jax and Irelia (and gnar. if gnar is a bruiser. gnar fits in too many rolls right now. he is going to end up nerfed out of existence because his kit is too good.) Certain tanks are strong right now. Others are struggling. etc. Currently the only range champs that are strong in top lane are ap ranged bullies with high utility. and gnar. cause gnar.
: Well its impossible to make a jungle completely viable for all types of junglers, making it stronger just means sustained junglers rule. A lot more ganking junglers then sustained, especially with the smite changes allowing you to slow people or steal MS.
I am familiar with the latest set of ops in the jungle. And it does seem impossible, but I have seen riot innovate and come up with creative ideas to do things that I thought couldn't be done. Do I expect them to come up with a way to make pros pick all the possible jungle styles? not really. But part of me thinks they might yet find a way to get it up to three types of jungling (which would be amazing). Either way, the reason they will not go back to the S4 jungle is because that path has been tried and they are not satisfied with failure. If you can find a new way to make an "soft"/"easy" jungle they may reconsider the point, but it would have to be something that gives incentive to "increase champion diversity"
: Why exactly can't the New Jungle be a bit weaker on champions Riot?
Since no one here has given the answer allow me to repeat what I remember from what they said when they chose to leave the S4 jungle. Basically, in an easy jungle where anyone can jungle, ability to jungle either quickly or safely ceases to be a factor in deciding what champs are strong. Which in turn means that junglers are forced to pick champs that are really strong at something else. It turns out this something else is ganking. Hence only champs with amazing gank ability got picked for LCS and balance couldn't easily change that. In other words, the too easy jungle forced the pros to play only one type of jungle. The exception to this was nunu, and that was only because he was able to turn himself into a support with a sightstone and not suffer too much and give good objective control. The other top picks were chose for their ability to gank. Olaf (recent LCS) and Sej (recent IEM) could never have been picked in the S4 jungle at a competitive level. Is the new jungle perfect by any stretch of the imagination? no. I honestly don't know how to create the jungle they want where multiple types of junglers are viable. But I like their goal and I agree that an easy jungle is a failed experiment for them at this point.
: HOW IS IT WE STILL HAVE NOTHING TO COMBAT AFKERS IN RANKED!?!?!?
Is the issue you have not been here long? Or you can't see the improvement? Or do you think you cause afkers? Because, a) riot has three different systems in place that I can think of off the top of my head that help with issue b) I was here long before S1 and afkers were so common that, before I shaped up, I had systemized ways to try to make sure their team had a rage quit before mine did. Things are overwhelmingly better now (albeit, not perfect) c) your style of communication does not seem healthy for team morale and probably has negative consequences for you.
: Wtf I won 7 and lose 3 and I have been promoted to bronze 1
if it makes you feel better, a lot of challenger players got stuck in plat.
: Is Tristana's detonation charge a little TOO effective on towers?
I actually disagree. My experience with is that she had her power curve thrown for a loop. Her mid game damage and utility from e is fairly high. And her early is probably good if you are not playing against siv or cait who i expect to counter her in lane. Her late game seems weak. What that Attack Speed growth stat nerf means is that with runes pd and greaves you get to 1.43 as by 18 at full build. in other words, trist cant fight tanks unless her q is on. The cd on it is too long for the length of the ability and the importance of it to her late game damage. She has been turned into another caster adc who has bad aas. I think her attack animation length also increased. Not by a lot, and I love how the sounds make it feel like you can hear when she has her attack finished, but I had a lot of trouble kiting the last game I played her. I canceled an insane amount of attacks. Maybe the issue is how bad her attack speed is. So yeah I am not sure she retained her hypercarry status. Edit to be fair, I dont have enough games played to be super confident about my feelings on the issue, but trist definitely feels very different.

: If you're playing against people of this level that technically means you are doing better then you consider yourself as. Also I have been hearing a lot that the current ranked system is all messed up atm so can't comment on that. Are you people you are playing against people who are ACTUALLY in a Gold/Diamond Division or do they just have the border?
The reset means that this isn't as true as it normally would be.
: To be honest, we don't think about it from a fiscal perspective, but more from the perspective of how compelling the league would be with 16 or 20 teams. To be honest, we're not sure the talent pool is there yet to accommodate 16-20 teams. Additionally, there is a lack of strong organizations to support and lead 16-20 LCS teams. Maybe someday!
That is a reasonable response, but then why did you push OGN to gut itself and get rid of several very strong teams and consequently a large number of star players? To my knowledge there was no evidence or even theories of abuse of the two teams one organization rule.
: 2015 League of Legends Esports Q&A [COMPLETED]
Why did the poaching rules become worse for players instead of better? Would it not be better to let players talk with their colleagues and then just level extreme bans at people who intentionally sabotage their teams? Why is it more important to support team owners than players? Why do team owners get to represent their players in contract negotiations? Is there any reason to trust team owners to do so fairly in situations like the blood water situation with XDG where no one on the outside can be really sure who was in the wrong but both can be sure that bloodwater and xdg management were not getting along? How was banning Scarra fair? It is easy to understand why you punish HSGG, but I don't see why what Scarra did is against the rules. And before you jump on that, I understand that is against your rules. I want you to defend your rules and explain how they do something other than create a toxic environment for players.
: Changes to the 2015 LCS Official Rules
Why did we make the poaching rules better for the team owners and not the players? The rules are already heavily biased against players. Only team owners would want it to favor team owners even more. The players are the ones who have been getting screwed so far from what I can see. Let players talk about their future and then create huge penalties for players that abuse the power.

: What if Every Lane Had a Mastery Tree?
The lane masteries don't really make sense. Top lane is an excellent example of why not. It comes down to multiple roles being an option in top. Should the masteries support bruisers (like irelia xz darius and gnar), tanks (like mao malph sion shen and singed), mages like liss gragas swain and rumble, ap ranged bullies like lulu teemo and kayle, ad ranged harrassers like quin and vayne, or perhaps assassins like fizz talon and kha? Thats 6 different playstyles I can think of off the top of my head. What mastery set could you create to support them? Perhaps create masteries for different roles and playstyles (which is honestly way too diverse. like 10 different trees) Point is that lanes have more than one role that can play in them.

: The whole thing is that it relies on the honor system. IS there a way to trade players? Yes. Is there a way to safely trade players, with little to no possibility of someone else taking the person/team you are trading while you two are doing so? No. Also, in your example, what would stop the person that you are trading with from keeping the person you set as a free agent, and not giving up the trade that you wanted? There is only honor. I know it should be get better friends at that point, but if you set up a pool between co-workers, or flat mates, or whoever that you might not 100% trust, you need a specific system in place to trade.
yeah the honor system thing is an issue. esp when your are playing with strangers on reddit
: It's standard in professional sports that employees from one club are not permitted to directly recruit employees from another while under contract. The clubs either have to discuss it with each other, ask permission, or wait until no longer under contract/free agency period begins.
I have tried to find exact rules on it in various sports. I have not easily found it. My understanding is that it's ok to talk as long as you are not telling people to break contracts. But I have not found the rules. Would you link me to them so I can make more informed statements?
Cambios (NA)
: Actually no, people in other industries - including pro sports - talk with colleagues all the time about jobs. Casual conversation is known an accepted. Outright, deliberate, nefarious poaching moves (explicit offers, etc.) is the only thing frowned upon.

: You aren't** thinking **are you. Imagine a small circle of top teams where they are allowed poaching other players mid season. Now if player A convinces player B to join Team A and leave Team B. **What incentive would player B have to win the next match he has against Team A while still on Team B?** Now **imagine doing this with 3 or 4 other players on Team B's roster**.
Easy Answer, reputation. You do that, everybody knows. You didn't tell anyone what you were doing, and yet, everybody knows. Maybe you can still get hired by the team you want to join, but you just wrecked your long term possibilities. Also, that particular behavior should be fined and result in suspensions. unlike talking to friends. Also, I am not sure you are reading everything right. The majority opinion isn't in favor of it being ok to break contract. It's that players should be able to talk about their futures before they are under pressure. Why shouldn't riot just punish players and teams for poaching and intentional sabotaging of games. I can see a season ban as being an appropriate punishment against a player for throwing games if not a year ban. And of course it should be leveled after the team wanting the player is forced to buy out his contract. Screw ppl who try to sabotage other teams. Everyone is for that. But, don't screw the players. There is no reason they shouldn't be allowed to plan their futures or talk to their friends. Most of us here are not pro-poaching. We are just pro-players (cue high-hat). The way that scarra and zionspartan are getting treated is wrong, unless you really believe that they sabotaged dig. To my knowledge, there is no evidence for that.
: Remember when game competitions were referee'd by common sense and not draconian legal dogma with ridiculous fines? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
I do not remember describing refs as having common sense.
Prilo (NA)
: Why not? Why shouldn't they? No ones breaking a contract. No ones suggesting that a contract be broken. Only suggesting that when a contract expires, they think about signing a different contract rather than resigning the previous one. No illegal action. Riot is just being absurd.
He was pointing out the ridiculousness of the ruling.
Dharwin (NA)
: This needs more upvotes. The rules let players talk about their futures with other organizations, as long as their current organization is aware/part of the talks. So basically, you can't go behind your current employer's back.
Actually it says that the player can't talk to anyone. The person who owns their contract can. In other words, putting out feelers in an unofficial fashion is punishable. What doublelift and zionspartan did would be fine in most industries, including sports. The contracts LCS players are forced to sign to participate give quite a bit of power to both riot and the team owners at the expense of the players. The part where a player who is unhappy with his team can't talk to anyone who might give him a way out until his contract is gone and his team can put pressure on him to commit is not healthy for the players. It also means that when somebody is trying to explore options discreetly.... guess what... it's not discreet because the team owner gets to know and the player doesn't get to be involved. And do you really believe that the team owner is going to represent the player fairly when there is conflict with the player? The issue here isn't about how easy to follow the rule is. It's about the way this rule bans normal actions for players and creates an unhealthy environment for players that desire to see what other employment options are available to them. I understand that Riot was trying to protect team owners, and that's commendable, but their methods created a bad situation for players. Honestly, without being a clg fan, I can't help but think that the real villain in the latest set of rulings against them are rules Riot created. Punishing people for trying to expand their horizons is not a commendable action.
