: Terrible idea to not be able to close the client in the background. Why remove a feature? I guess I'll just manually close it and log back in after every game... /sigh
Well, the goal is to stop making it removable only once we're sure it doesn't affect the in-game experience. If there's still a reasonable chance that players could be negatively impacted during their games, we won't move forward with this change. Making you close the client manually and relaunch after every single game is the complete opposite of what we want!
: Would it be possible for the client to remember our preferred roles in ranked? Also, how do I favorite a champion? There's a sort by favorite option, but I don't see how to mark the champs.
I'll pass that feedback along to the team that now owns this feature (we handed it off to the team that owns Champ Select as a whole, so they can better steer the direction of future improvements.) You mark a champ as a favorite by right clicking on their portrait in Champ Select.

: I don't think this is the proper place to ask, but it is client related, just probably not part of the strike team. * Would it be possible to poke some folks and see if they can implement a self mute feature in game? I think it would positively affect 20% of the toxic population. * I think people whom are willing to self mute would have the control to not int / grief through gameplays means. * It gives a means for people to vent without anyone seeing it. * Can you poke some folks to reconsider adding a progress bar for honors? Not just a simple bar that will show when you'll level up but it'll act as an indicator to show if people are going to get punished soon. My ideas are as follows: * When you level up honor, you start at 50% of the bar, hit 100% you level up, hit 0% you get punished by the behavior system. * No actual level numbers, but a % bar only. Maybe only updated after 5-10 games so no secret sauce gets leaked. * A notification pops up at around 20% of the bar, saying that their behavior is starting to become unacceptable and they need to watch their actions. * If people fake nice, at least they are faking nice instead of flaming. - If people back off from being toxic (and just mute and not chat all game) cos they are trying to not get punished, at least we have a bunch of games with less flame. * obviously needs a tooltip to show how/why the progress bar moves forwards or backwards.
This probably wouldn't be changes that our team would take on, but do fall within scope for the team that owns these underlying features. I'll pass them along -- appreciate the suggestions.

: Anything non-performance but user interface focused? Any plans at all to reduce the number of clicks it takes to get into a game? There are so many menus to click through just to play ARAM.
Not at the moment, but the teams involved in Lobby and Champ Select are always looking at improvements. I'll make sure they see this.

: Great work! Thanks for the filtering and sorting options. I sometimes have brief disconnects that can create wonkiness in champ select, though for the past few months it seems to work a lot better. The only champ select issue I remember atm is that the button to click to trade with someone seems really buggy since the last patch or two, very noticeable in ARAM. I know the trade button disappears when someone else requests a trade with them first (I feel it should just grey out so as not to confuse) but it's confirmed going away for no reason at times (friend in champ select with me).
Thanks for the heads-up -- I'll mention this to the team that owns Champ Select. Logs and such would help us identify whether it's a foundational problem in the underlying client tech or something in the UI... or both, or neither.

: Introducing the League Client Strike Team
Love the feedback and suggestions here, but I just want to call special attention to one thing I wrote: > How can I influence those priorities? I’m glad you asked! We’re constantly monitoring data from surveys about the client, Player Support tickets and BugSplat crash reports. We aggregate and review all these inputs, across all regions, on a frequent basis to identify what needs the most attention. While we DO see your feedback posted in other places (such as in this thread), getting your input to us via the channels above is going to be the most immediately informative in helping our team determine what to take on next.
: I haven't been looking at the [Client Discussion](http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/alpha-client-discussion) board because it's not on the home page, but do you/will you be using it for much of your feedback gathering?
We generally rely more on tools that help us quickly aggregate and parse feedback from players across all regions -- e.g., surveys, bug reports, support tickets, etc. These are great frontline resources that help us quickly categorize broad problems that players face, helping us narrow down the issues that are having the largest impact. A bonus is that these tools also provide us with direct access to feedback captured from players in regions where we don't necessarily speak the language, which is key when you're a team in Los Angeles trying to have an impact globally. When we're going deep into understanding specific problems, however, is when individual player reports/posts become most immediately informative for us. So Boards (such as Client Discussion), social media, etc. are _definitely_ things we keep an eye on, but at least for now we're informing most of our prioritization on data from the tools we use to understand at scale how many players are being affected by the same issues.
: This sounds like a really cool idea. What kind of people are making up this team? Is it a part of UX or Insights, or is it something totally different?
Glad to hear that! The team is engineering and QA, plus me (product management), and we work in partnership with folks from Insights, Art, UX, Game Design, Player Support, etc. The idea is that at our core we're lightweight and agile enough to move quickly on the biggest pain points, but can pull in subject-matter experts quickly as needed.

: Since you call yourself a strike team, do you have a theme song?
I KNEW WE WERE FORGETTING SOMETHING. Open to suggestions!
: I absolutely will, for some reason I thought I had. Either way after work tonight I'll submit a ticket. Also I'm more than happy to share any additional information you may want from my system, tell the Support team I'm happy to share. As a side note is there any chance it was a mix of a windows os update, and an AMD driver update? I don't recall the timing but I often wonder if these can cause or contribute to the issue. (Unrelated, but curious) About 2 years ago, before I became an addict of LoL, I bought a game and I beat the Max Requirements on. However, during game I got like 12 fps. I opened a different game BF4, where typically I hit 130 fps stable. But all of a sudden my system struggled to stay above 20 fps. It turned out to be a combo of window update/patch and an AMD driver update. I got so frustrated trying to resolve the problem I reinstalled windows and no longer have a FPS issue. I brought it up as a consideration of possible other causes that may affect ping?

Cool -- thanks for sending along the report. And yeah, conflicts with drivers or other systems outside of our direct control can be a frequent and tough-to-identify source of issues, so that's why we'll often request additional info about a player's system to help rule out those as suspects.
: Not sure how this would rank in terms of priority, but there is a pretty consistent bug where looking at one friend's profile and then immediately looking at a different friend's profile will kinda merge the two (the first summoner's name will show along with a few other UI elements, but stuff like the background champ will change. I will try to get a screenshot or two next time it shows.

: I know it's well documented on the website, but maybe provide an area on the client that gives the minimum requirements for League to run. For the most part the new client works wonderful for me. However, a while back I experienced huge ping spikes, north of 900 in game. The only way I could fix it was to Alt tab out and shut down one of the multiple LOL sessions running. If I picked the correct session or instance, my ping went back to the stable 16. However, (and this was a few months back) it started to occur frequently. I asked a fellow friend how many LoL instances were running in his games ask manager, he answered two. For some reason I had six. So I uninstalled and reinstalled and it seemed to fix the ping issue. However, I continue to have multiple instances running when I play.

: 1. I'm really excited for this, it sounds awesome and I'm looking forwards to things getting fixed! 2. Can we please have a Boards Strike Team next? This forum could really _really_ use some improvement. 3. Does client crashing during champion select count as major? Mine crashes seemingly randomly, causing the client to restart, but when it does it takes too long to load champion select again. : Black boxes while in Match History
Hey, I'd like to get a little more info to help us track this bug down. Does this appear every time you hit this screen? Does it occur multiple times per logged-in session? Are there things you're doing consistently before you notice it appearing? (E.g., does it only appear after you play a game? Right after logging in and going directly to that screen? Taking some other action?) Anything else that you can share to help us reproduce this consistently would be super helpful. Thanks!
: Honestly, I would say the single most important change you could possibly make to settings is to allow the in game settings to be altered from the client. That has always been a major pain point for me personally, and many other players I know. I understand the difficulty of it since they are currently totally separate, and I'm not expecting it soon, but wouldn't it be possible for the client to simply create a file listing the settings and for when the game client opens for it to check for changes to that file and apply them to its own settings? Or something of that nature? Or something completely different that accomplishes the same goal? I'm not picky.
I hear ya. Alas, that's pretty much all I can say at this stage -- what you're describing is definitely something we know players are asking for. I know that's not super satisfying to hear, but stay tuned and please keep sharing your feedback and ideas for additional changes.
: Which client settings are being moved server side? Actually, this always hasn't worked - but when I play at work my mouse sensitivity settings are wildly different than at home (mac vs PC + different mice) and I've got to remember to switch it every time. I'd appreciate it if anyone has suggestions to mitigate that issue.
Hi Lotharstar. Just to be clear, the changes that we're making right now are to settings that are accessible within the AIR client... outside of the actual game, which is where mouse settings currently live. And just to be highly ambiguous :-) we're only in the initial stages of what I think we can do with settings, as a general concept. I think you described a pretty common challenge that many players, myself included, have to contend with. And I agree we should be thinking about these sorts of problems as we (and future teams) keep iterating on how we approach settings.

Thanks for the suggestion. We're still looking at all the things we want to do during the alpha, and beyond.

Hi Davidroo! The plan is that you will indeed be able to check out your owned -- and unowned -- skins via your Collection. Be sure to test out & give us feedback when that functionality becomes available (which will occur a bit later during the "Profile and Collection" phase of development).
: "Zero context" also happens to be his core philosophy when he comes to me with an idea :)
Hey, whatever works! :-D
: I'd engage more with esports if it stayed, I think. Maybe watch more than my once every month or two.
Good to know! This is just one way we're experimenting with new ways of serving up content in the client. We're really interested to see how players interact with the in-client Worlds Hub, since it's the first time we've done something like this, and we're hoping to learn some things that will inform ways of serving up content in the future (be it for esports or other types of experiences).

: I am pretty sure Riot is working on an entirely new client because the current is simply too old to work with. I'm not techie though.
Alas, those features are out of my area so I don't have any useful info to share. Although I can say that we (meaning Rito) are working hard to keep players more informed about what's going on and about our priorities regarding what's coming up, so as those specific teams have things to start talking about, you should expect them to be super forthcoming. Sorry about the non-answer answer :-/

: >Speaking of Spectate, what are the kinds of games you look for when you do decide to spectate matches? Games with specific champs? Specific players? Just a random match to kill some time? Maybe random cycling games that we have now with an added filter option to look for games with certain champions or matches within a certain elo range. Probably can't be easily done with this client, but maybe an idea for a new version. Either way, it would be nice to not see pro scene content plastered over every square inch of the home page for a change. Not everyone enjoys it as much as Riot apparently does and would like to focus on the rest of the community if we had the option to toggle the advertisements on or off.
Good feedback -- thanks. To your second point, we're exploring ways to help connect players with the content that's most relevant to them (and avoid the content that's not!) The more you can share with us which content and in-client experiences you care about and find most useful/interesting, the better. :-)

: For me at least, players are the core focus of matches I spectate. It's part of the reason streaming services like twitch get so many people watching streams. On a similar note, most LCS matches are based on the meta and a lot of the spectate matches are outside that meta. Would be cool if you could make a distinction, as I always find it interesting to observe "break the meta" instances so to speak.
Cool. That's an interesting suggestion we don't hear often!
: Worlds Countdown in the client
Thanks for the feedback! We're really interested to see if players find that toggle to be a useful addition to the Featured Spectate card. Thanks for letting us know about this issue! I'd like to get a little more info if I could... Was this on the normal client and NOT the PBE client? I'm asking because we recently rolled out some changes to PBE that included a bug that resulted in videos continuing to play even when games began. :-( We're working to fix that and should have it repaired very shortly. Also, if this is NOT on pbe, has it happened again since then? Thanks for helping us track this bug down. AAAAAND QUICK EDIT: The fix is now out on PBE, so if you are still having this issue (on any environment) please let me know. Thanks!

Yeah, we could do a **much **better job of surfacing more of the fantastic work our artists create... making it more available, in more ways that are easy to use (such as desktop backgrounds, etc.) Thanks for bringing this up. So much of what’s coming out now (IMO) is so amazing, I'm kind of in awe. We should definitely make it more accessible. : Just to confirm if I understand this correctly but does that mean that each different site will possibly have different (for lack of a better word) widgets on the bar? I can see that being very useful.
Potentially. The design and the tech are very flexible, enough to accommodate region-, site- or player-specific features.
AbodyHUN666 (EUNE)
: Just make sure you keep other language sites in mind too. Right now I can't reach the hungarian forums because it redirects me to the eune forums.

: If the new bar replaces the current Boards bar, we will no longer be able to view the forum archives because there are no dropdowns and Community is a direct link to the Boards.
Players will still have a path to reaching the archives. This will either exist in the login bar or on other pages on the site (which may do a better job than the login bar can of keeping the archives easily findable.)
: Right off do you know if it will extend to the Dev Blog or eSports website?
We're working to have the new bar replace every instance of the old bar design, across all our sites. Timing-wise... teams that own individual features will update their bar when they're able (they may have more pressing stuff they need to tackle.) But, yeah, the goal is to roll this out broadly across our sites.

: This is the patcher screen. The screen before you log in, not the home screen after you log in.
The design and tech refresh is coming to both the patcher as well as the client landing page (AKA the home screen, AKA the screen you see after you successfully log in). And Featured Spectate Matches will be back on the client landing page when we go live with the new designs. :-)
MicKaLiK (NA)
: I don't know how many people agree with me but I would like to see the Featured Games still available where you can spectate high ELO games. I remember first starting out playing League and if I had no friends online I was constantly spectating the higher tier games to learn champs I wanted to try out. Heck, I still even do that now.
The images don't show it, but the Featured Spectate Matches module will be back when we launch with the new designs :-) We're not making any immediate change to how it works, but we are moving its location on the client landing page. To echo what Ventropy said, we're counting on your feedback on this and every other aspect of the refreshed patcher and landing page, so… let us know what you think!
: This isn't what I want to hear. I would prefer to have the option to see Featured Matches. Riot finally made it where we could turn off the banner over the client so we could see Featured Matches instead of an LCS advertisement. Please tell me it'll be the same idea.
TL;DR: We definitely know some players care strongly about the Featured Matches on the current client landing page, and we're still working on the experience! Okay, here's our general design philosophy behind how we want to surface content (both on the landing page and elsewhere, like the website): We want all players to have an easy and intuitive way of finding the experiences that they enjoy, which could of course include Featured Matches. One complication is that only a slim percentage of players *frequently* interact with Featured Matches, which doesn't mesh well with how much visual space we give to them at present (which we could be devoting to other exciting features). So, we think a happy medium can exist in which players who *do* care about spectating high-skill matches have an easy way to do so, while players who care more about other experiences don't face the distraction of an über-prominent Featured Matches area on the landing page. Again, we're still exploring how this experience might work in the new design. We think the new client landing page that's heading to PBE (and the new tech supporting it) will be flexible enough to allow us to do a better job of serving up more experiences that more players find relevant. It'll take us a bit of time to fine-tune our approach, though, so I hope you'll bear with us... and continue giving us regular feedback as we work to improve the experience. Fortunately, you won't have long to wait before you can start judging for yourself the success of our initial efforts! :-)
