: > Would someone be able to explain why a permanent chat ban or a chat ban lasting a full season or longer isn't considered an option for when a player is perma-banned for excessive typing, verbal abuse, etc? Because of two major reasons; 1) **Permanent/Extensively long Chat Restrictions do not work.** Riot tried using indefinitely-stacking Chat Restrictions a long while ago, and they didn't reap any good results. Players under longer-scale restrictions either used their limited amount of chat for extreme vulgarity and harassment - which is exactly why they got the chat restriction in the first place - or worse, resorted to trolling and intentionally feeding to "prove a point" to their teammates. The uptick in gameplay toxicity is a wholly unwelcome consequence of applying a chat-related punishment, and simply permanently removing the player's ability to chat doesn't remove their ability to be toxic. 2) **There needs to be tangible consequences for continually breaking the rules.** Whenever someone makes an account for League of Legends, they agree to abide by the [Code of Conduct](https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/legal/termsofuse#code-conduct) and the [Summoner's Code](https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/summoners-code). These are fair and simple behavioral guidelines and rules that are easy to follow - so much so that they can easily be summed up with "don't be a jerk". Of course, some people will falter and break the rules by incident with the occasional instance of flame or one-off outbursts. These players usually rectify their behavior pretty quickly after the first punishment, and seldom need to be punished again. But some people will flout the rules, disrespect the game, and ignore warnings and punishments and continue to break the rules; these players need a punishment more severe than a simple chat restriction. And, as I so often say; "If you can't be bothered to play by the rules, Riot can't be bothered to have you playing at all". Players are given ample warnings and opportunities to reform their behavior, so breaking the rules again and again has to merit _some_ severe punishment. Which is why Riot employs permanent bans; if someone is so willing and eager to continue breaking the rules after being chat restricted twice, and being _forced to leave the game for 14 days, with that punishment also coming with a warning that **any further misbehavior will result in a permanent suspension**_, it's clear that the player does not care about the rules or the game, and does not deserve to play it further. --- Those are the two biggest reasons that permanent account bans are used and permanent chat restrictions/bans aren't; perma-chat bans don't work (they simply result in an uptick of gameplay-related toxicity), and players who continuously ignore and disrespect the rules need to be given a harsh, final punishment that prevents them from breaking the rules again. > ...but with the ping system I feel like you don't lose too much by losing your ability to type if you aren't using it for anything but flame anyway. Frankly, someone who reaches the point of being permabanned for flame is just as likely to abuse the ping system as they do the chat system.

: I *almost* took this down for Advocating Violations of the Rules. I didn't, because "remove the toxins" is a nice thought. But the sarcasm isn't, and in general these "let's beat the system" kind of posts advocating trying to provoke others in in-game chat have got to stop. Trying to provoke other people into account bans or punishments is serious, no-no behavior. It hurts the community, and provokes people who might otherwise be well-behaved into punishment or even account loss. I am probably the moderator with the strictest stance on these kinds of posts, and I have issued some very lengthy Boards bans over the practice. Genuinely malicious intent to provoke other users is against the following part of the [Universal Board Rules](https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/community-moderation/ITFIpNUE): > Advocating Violations of the Rules > > Do not post content advocating or soliciting violations of the Terms of Use, Summoner’s Code, or Board Rules. Players encouraging this sort of behavior will be punished as if they had engaged in it themselves. We as moderators understand that the community can be frustrated with the kind of toxicity that doesn't show up on chat, and the difficulty in punishing the same. We absolutely encourage *productive* discussion about how to fix these problems. That does *not* make it okay to try to provoke others on purpose, nor will it, ever.

: yea, cos threatening for reports adds like ... 1 toxicity point to the behavioral history. : Can we clear up a few things? Them threatening to report you is indeed a threat and can be punished. But why are they not punished? Let's have you understand the behavioral system a bit more. Think of it like a health bar (or tension meter) in music games. When you hit the note at an off beat, your tension meter increases. When you completely miss a note, the meter increases by alot. When you hit the note at good timings, it reduces the meter. Riot's behavior system works the same way, as in we all have a toxicity meter attached to our accounts. When players are mildly toxic, it goes up a tad. When people use hate speech, it pretty much fills up the meter. of course, clean games reduce the meter. You think they are not getting punished, but they are accumulating toxicity points in their behavioral history. When they reach a certain threshold, they will get punished. So what about their threats? It actually does nothing as 1 report does the same thing as 9 reports. All a report does is to flag the system to review the game. The toxicity score returned from the review will be the same regardless of how many times a player was reported within the same game. It is also possible for the system to return a toxicity score of 0 if there was no toxicity found within the game. So don't give them a reason to make their threats a valid report.
> [{quoted}](name=Kei143,realm=NA,application-id=ZGEFLEUQ,discussion-id=MBV743B3,comment-id=0002,timestamp=2019-12-31T16:24:45.376+0000) > > Can we clear up a few things? Do you have something to say that they shouldnt?
: No, if you are new to the game, you will be placed in your appropriate elo. If you are consistently going 1-9-3 in games, it's technically not inting because you are trying, it just signifies you are in a much higher elo than you should be, and actions should be taken. I should have specified this, as just being bad is not reportable in itself. I will edit it accordingly. > Edit: This report is for elo related issues on if a person is where they shouldn't be. Such as a boosted account, purchased accounts, etc...

Claiming that trolls don't get banned is false no matter how much emotion you put into the statement. Not all trolls get caught, true, but some are. You've even posted in threads that some trolls have been banned, so that can be proved to be a false statement. Multiple people making an assumption does not make the assumption true. That's called the bandwagon fallacy. If you make an opinion such as, "Not enough trolls are caught" almost everyone can get behind that opinion. Though I would still try to get you to acknowledge the difficulty of catching trolls in such a large player pool. But at least you wouldn't be making a false statement anymore.

Who cares about opinions and statements.. Trollers should get banned more... Or at least when someone makes a ticket with enough proof of someones inting rito should look into it and give a 14day vacation

Isn't it hypocritical to say that? You not only don't know the specifics but you also originally made a statement that was verifiably false. All you have are opinions and assumptions. The assumptions can be proven wrong.

Since wayyy too many players are posting in those boards about the non banned trollers do you seriously think that the percentage of banning trollers is a big one? Realistically, I believe the number of people banned for griefing is greater than 0% since I can directly go to threads where some have been banned. That alone would disprove your original claim that "Trollers aren't getting banned". At the same time, since I'm being realistic, I'm not going to claim I know what percentage are banned because I don't have access to that information. Neither would Riot (since they would need to know which ones they missed) and especially neither would you.
