What about allowing the benefitted player right clicking an item directly when elegible by having a special effect on the icon? That should not trigger activations for the player in case they have Zhonya's/Redemption and still allow them to do it per their choice, without having to enter the shop menu. You could also trigger a notification by using the quest system already built in the game!

: I mean we would love to update these kinds of things one day, they are just much lower priority then many other things. Anything we do has to come at the cost of something else, and there are tons of Champions that are in much greater need of VGU's then that work atm. Any work we did on those would delay or push back current New Champions or VGUs in development, which just isn't worth the cost right now imo.
Always wanted to ask -- wouldn't the best option here be to try to take advantage when doing a 1820 skin? For instance, if you guys did a skin for Renekton of such caliber, it'd be a good shot to get the actors all across the world do a whole VO and allow an animation artist to make a recall, for example, no? It'd be a bit like taking full advantage of resources being used, I feel.

: I still feel bad for the riot team to have done the banner wing when I went to like "Aatrox main" and saw a part of them saying they didn't care, and then I see an other part b*tching (not talking about your post OP) about basic stuff on their wing more because they want it to be what they want than actually criticism like yours. Make me kinda mad... Also it doesn't surprise me there is some of the problems you told me, texture can be such a pain... I am sure your feedback will be helpful in that regard!
Thanks :) In the end they decided to add them because they wanted/agreed with the playerbase more than being forced, but it's true that there was a mainly vocal minority asking for them back. I can live without them honestly, but I the idea looks good. However, the current implementation seems far off from the standards Riot have been setting over the last few years, which is why I decided to create this post and be as detailed as possible. I trust their teams since everytime they receive feedback they do wonders (like the e-sports skins a couple years ago or this very VGU textures, which are INCREDIBLE). So I just hope this can help them in some way :)

No problem! However! If I could give a bit of criticism... :P I think we could have used a few more serious lines in a few interactions where he is not necessarily talking in an angry mood. I see some of that old persona in there, but I think a part of the issue is too that there are not enough lines where he gets to shine, instead giving to the rage. Can't wait for everything to come out! :)

After the boost, yes. They emntioned they only made animations for the kit and where absolutely necessary.

: I agree. You'd mainly be doing it to trade back when they're trading onto you. The size increase is currently cosmetic. We're exploring the possibility of increasing his auto attack range during ultimate, though. We tried it in a previous iteration but it wasn't too noticeable.
Stupid question maybe, but have you thought of readding the damaging aura his current ult has? It seems absurd, but the small DoT helps a lot in teamfights.

(Aatrox will be introducing a new type/category of line for league, which I think people will like.) In general, we have "general line minimums" for a script. So a champ has at least: 25 Move lines (triggered when clicking to move greater than 900 units), 15 LongMove lines (triggered when leaving base, mid tower is up, and clicking greater than 900 units), 25 Attack lines etc... Then based on the position a champion plays you may have other minimums too. (So a character designed as a split pusher might have lines for destroying towers, while a support might have lines for placing wards.) Now once you've filled in those core minimums you might have specific gameplay needs. (Kled yelling Charge!, Sion yelling Cowards!" etc...) Then finally, you have "X"number of lines left. This is where you use lines for "misc other stuff" e.g. lore, jokes, alleviating player pain (i.e. Zoe groaning "Darn it" when she misses a long Q) This is where the writer prioritizes and makes judgement calls. (For instance, maybe you have a targonian character that has some lines for Taric... the lines are super funny.. but your character is a midlaner. Is it better to have lines for someone they might actually lane against? Hmmm -there isn't a right answer.) I remember writing a line or two for Vlad... but I honestly don't remember if it got culled. (As Vlad is mostly a mid-laner and Aatrox is mainly a top-laner.) I will say Aatrox really, really, **really** hates Zoe. (He as a very good reason too hate her-- but also I like to make fun of my, and the designer's previous champs).

I'm also a bit scared that any extra power you give him would be too much of a buff, right now I feel he's quite in the spot. Regarding item upgrades, seeing the Zhonya upgrade on the PBE... I've had friends make comments on how since Sunfire Cape is the item that gets the Mastwerwork upgrade, Tank junglers (ie: Rammus) don't have really any choice left as Cinderhulk covers that spot. So I was wondering if you guys would consider adding another armor item on that list or what's the reason you chose not to add another one (even if it was, I don't know, Zz'Rot) -- did you guys feel one of the items was already a good option? Thanks in advance!
: The problem you're trying to solve here is a real one. Unfortunately, I don't think a rune is the best place to solve it. Ward slot restriction is a systemic pain that should be solved globally for all champions, rather than on an opt-in basis through a rune.
Have you considered an upgrade to the Yellow Trinket at level 9 so it can have a Control charge of some sorts?

Also, this new rune is going to save my ass from missing smite when I change a role and forget to take out that TP... Happening too much to me lately :P Seriously though, it's going to be useful for these cases. I was wondering, though, do you have any runes for junglers in the works? Since we're taking away the current system where you get some extra damage and whatnot something that crossed my mind lately was "won't everyone suffer from it in the first few levels"?

: So, about those SKT skins... 2017 Edition
Personal opinion, keep the article, add a disclaimer, and use it for guiding (so most skins are still going to follow it but there can be an exception here and there). Why I'm saying this? Because it's really how it should be. You currently have 5 pricing categories, 2 of which are basically the same (520 and 750) but one price is used for older content while the rest is for newer. Then we go up for 975 for a recall, and then it's 1350 for a recall and particles (and maybe a custom animation somewhere)... And then we go to 1820 and Ultimate tier, which are pretty much an overhaul and many models in one. So the thing is, if you don't use it as guidance, how can we perceive those prices as more or less fair to us? In other words, what justifies in our (consumer) eyes that this skins are 1350RP worthy, if we don't really understand what differentiates it from other 975 skins clearly? And having said this, I also find that if you guys could go into a bit more of detail regarding why you felt the price was right even with the lack of a few things, it'd help here too. Maybe we're overlooking something, as we don't really work on stuff and for us seeing a different model might not immediately make us understand how much complicated it is regarding another one. Thanks for your time!
: Azir Gameplay Update: Goals and Directions
As someone who has played Azir ever since he came out (or rather, as soon as you guys reenabled him :P), even if I'm terrible, I think I'd go for 1 and reevaluate the current status of his E shield scaling and the possibility of returning a knock up in exchange of the range (although I guess the latter's going to be ruled out which I can totally understand). I mean, he's a squishy so going any closer to an enemy means any mistake can become quite a frustrating experience as soon as you do a single mistake, so anything that can help him survive is going to be valuable. I might also say I find his mobility quite rewarding and unique in contrast of other characters, as most mages are usually immobile. I am not sure I feel okay on the idea on giving up on that.

: We'll be doing a balance hotfix this week, probably sooner than later. Balance hotfixes are something we normally try and avoid given the risk hotfixing creates of server disruption and bugs, given 6.24's going to be the live patch for a much longer than normal period though we felt it was needed for some champions. Things we'll be hitting: * Azir - Got hit hard by the Rylai's changes. Buffs to soldier damage between levels 9-15. * Ivern - Way too strong, E max builds in particular. Nerfs to shield strength and slow duration. * Le Blanc - Has too much wave clear. Nerfs to Q bounce damage to minions and W damage. * Rengar - Too much base damage which gets him snowballing too reliably. Lower base damage on Q and E. * Shaco - Too bursty, AP builds primarily, especially given the other tools on his kit (stealth, blink, traps, clone). Lower AP ratios. * Taliyah - The other champ that got really hard by the Rylai's change. Q buffs. * Smite - Too much early game sustain leading to increased gank pressure and jungle impact. Lowering flat heal. We've got a number of other changes also being worked on for 7.1. The changes above are the ones we felt were urgent enough that it wasn't appropriate to wait until after the holidays. Additionally at present it doesn't look like Camille will need any hotfix adjustments, still watching her really closely as a new release though so possible that could change.
Hi Meddler! Nice to see some Azir love. I guess the Soldier damage means the AA of his W cast correct? Is there anything else you'd like to do about him by the way? Or are you going to take a "wait and see" approach? (I guess it's going to be the latter given Azir's nature). Thanks for your time! : We don't think the Vel'Koz changes were valueless - it was more that they weren't worth the significant amount of time and resources invested. Vel'Koz is still more unique after the changes, and we think after the R changes, he still feels great to play.
Having said this, that the Passive now scales off AP, the True Damage when applied the passives and the Q mana refund actually feel good from a Vel'koz player point of view. Besides that last ult change of course. So thanks for the changes. Loved him before, love him even more now.

: It's entirely possible! We have used community work before - just as Pool Party Ziggs. As for community concepts for Kindred, I'm pretty fond of the Elderwood idea floating around. As a note, we do have a folder that we keep awesome community concepts that we find, and we do bring them out when looking into giving x champion a new skin!

I fear I might not have understoon Nasus short story. The backstory, though, I loved it. You guys made my favorite character even more favorite. But I have a question: If he uses no Ascended armor (what I take is his classic skin) in the story... Does he retrieve it or get new one when he gets back to the capital? EDIT: Also, forgot to mention, loved the portrayal of Wither there. I always thought the flower petals were scarabs though?

Doing it this way means we can address folks questions in manageable chunks without everyone's heads exploding. And we like to surprise even you now and again :-) 2 - Ascended beings were once, if not common, then at least much more prevalent in Ancient times. Over time the ritual has become less successful and more and more folk being offered it weren't surviving. After Azir's betrayal and the fall of Shurima, most of the knowledge of how to do the ritual properly has been lost or forgotten. There was once many warriors of the Ascended Host, but even they are not immortal and can be killed with the right weapon and enough bodies to throw at them. 3 - Expect to know more when Skarner's bio hits in the next couple of weeks. 4 - I think it's a mixture of who you are and how the ritual is prepared that informs what you become. The ritual channels and hones the magic to make you into the being you need to be. 5 - I don't think there's any direct connection, but Nasus is certainly a being of great and deep wisdom, so he certainly understands that cycle, yeah. And an entity like Kindred would certainly be interested in those who have lived long past their day to die. Hahaha... don't worry, we'll be here for a while, so get your head all unexplodey and we'll answer what we can!
I need to ask you about point 2: Now that Shurima is back, there's nothing stopping you guys from creating a new (as in, Runeterra current time) Ascended being (thus being able to keep the Egyptian God theme :P) in the future, right?

He just blames Xerath for that -- It's precisely the fact that Azir was humble that Ascension was granted to him finally. Pretty sure his character involves making Shurima great again -- and most definitely not Donald Trump style. Also, I just noticed that he made rivers go backwards. Damn he's powerful lorewise.

Thanks for the article guys. I see now why the group reworks are happening beyond the need of more balanced or updated kits. Okay, that description above sucked. Let's put it this way: I couldn't truly understand why Vel'koz was chosen for the mage rework -- until now. Now I see he seems like a kind of controller, burst and artillery mage at the same time -- and none truly shines, making Vel'koz feel meh in the end (even if you like his current kit). Jack of all trades master of none I guess. More or less. Anyways, it was a good read. Hope to see the the new classes titles in-game to have a better idea as you guys put it.

: At the moment we don't have any plans to work on Shen because we believe we'd get bigger overall improvements to the game by putting that time into other champions in need (e.g. the Yorick rework that will be the next full update after Taric). It doesn't feel great leaving an update with some clear thematic issues like that, but going back to Shen would have to come at the expense of work on another champion so we had to make a priority call. I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say we'd never make changes to Shen. It's entirely possible there's a point in which it does make sense to do further art impacting work on him. I don't believe that will be any time soon though, so wanted to be open about that. I also wanted to acknowledge that we weren't completely happy with Shen either, and felt there was a good reminder for us about theme in champion updates from his rework.
If someone asked me, I'd dare say he needs the extra work and take the chance to update the animations and VO. I think that if you guys see that something is not working up to your own expectations it's better to go back to the drawing board and hit the right spot (specially now that it's still a recent "issue") before moving on. I think we can all agree that his kit is working fine and is cohesive, but if what fails is the execution rather than the kit itself it should take less time to start full production on him no? In other words: Why not analyze what's exactly working, what not and then make the list? For example, I think we can agree that having Shen at melee range and swing the spirit sword is fine, but if you're not happy with a giant floating sword, why not change it into a clone or spirit as Bloodmoth suggests in another reply? You could also take the chance at analyzing whether or not the kit could use some QoL changes, if he's performing gameplay-wise as you had expected (pick rate, winrate, strengtsh weaknesses, etc). I mean, there's a load of champions that need reworks (Warwick, he's just plain boring to play as in my opinion, feels old model/animation wise, etc.), but I think we can all live some extra months with those the way they are if it's going to take a year anyways than having a recent Update underperform in some way -- specially if the bulk of work is going to be less since it's already half done. Just my thoughts.

There are other illustrators at Riot though and other splashes that aren't on this list could still get updated by other teams.
I want to ask: Are you guys going to treat Nasus, Sivir, Cass and Renekton like full VGUs from now on? I was teased by Galactic Renekton so... I guess this also means we'll hopefully reach Karthus and Maokai too down the line!

On the one hand it would be nice to bring these out of the vault permanently since they were put into the vault due to the fact that they were just recolors, yet on the other hands players that have these "rare" skins might be pretty upset if they just became common skins all of a sudden. It's something we are interested in getting more data on in the future for sure.
I took the chance when Shen was updated to get Blood Moon, Frozen and Yellow Jacket and in all honesty... It's a shame some people might not be able to get them.
