Let me put it this way. In the jungle, it could easily confuse players who think that a different champion has entered their sight radius or activated an ability nearby. In lane, it can confuse _multiple_ players since VO is a huge gameplay tell for the vast majority of champions, including the person playing Fiddlesticks. It was pointed out that at times it could feel _really_ disorienting. Maybe two VAs would be okay, but definitely not five.
As cool as it might sound on the surface, the gameplay implications were fairly severe. I had to let the idea go. :'''(
Buuuuut for now I'm exploring a different version of that type of script, as I said in the update. My producer was visibly creeped out by the current pass, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'll be able to talk about that more **next time on Fiddlesticks Z.**

This is incorrect, actually. Odyssey contains Odyssey/Galaxy Slayer, Event Horizon contains Cosmic/Dark Star, Super Galaxy has super galaxy, Star Guardian has star guardian, Steel valkyries has steel valkyries and dreadnova. You can see how we order everything in-client, in the universe portion of the skins tab.

Super Galaxy, aka the saturday morning color-coded robot cartoon
|

Event Horizon is a separate universe than Odyssey, but the two are connected at a single point: the Ora Gate. Who built the Ora Gate and why they did so remains a mystery, but presumably Rhaast fell through at some point in history and has been waiting for a chance to open it back up for the other corruptants ever since.
tl;dr they are two separate universes within the League multiverse, but they are canonically connected by some sort of alien artifact. Rhaast is very excited about that last part, and Dark Cosmic Jhin seems eerily familiar with the Odyssey universe as well...
As for differentiation, let me break it down for you.
**Steel Valkyries** is a war-torn universe based on rogue galaxy anime like Bubblegum Crisis, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Runaway Ideon. In it, a thousand-year galactic civil war has recently ended, and in the power vacuum a bunch of cutthroats, bounty hunters, and mercenaries have set up shop. The story revolves around the use and proliferation of **Exosuits**, which are banned one-man superweapons capable of untold destruction, which presumably ended the war in the first place.
**Event Horizon** is a universe that is, for all intents and purposes, our cosmic horror setting. It is an ancient place where inscrutable entities larger than entire galaxies both create and destroy life, one represented as Cosmic and the other as Dark Star. The cosmic creatures are what we might understand as creation gods, who sort of watch over the aspects of the cosmos and fulfill specific duties to keep it going. The Dark Star is a dread singularity that has become sentient, and erases matter, time, thought, and even _reality_ as it moves through the universe. When it destroys an inhabited pocket of space, the emotional energies of that region are twisted into a being known as a corruptant, which is as close to an eldritch space horror as we've gotten in the canon to date. The corruptants then begin destroying the wider universe at will, hoping to erase every last mote of existence before leaping into the Dark Star and being destroyed themselves, leaving nothing but eternal oblivion.
**Odyssey** is a light-hearted space opera more reminiscent of a comedy-action-adventure. There's huge, multi-galaxy-spanning civilization(s) that are all obsessed with a universal power source known as **Ora**, and the plot follows a bunch of heroic idiots as they accidentally save the universe from an insane Machiavellian tyrant, an omnicidal hive-mind assassin, and a star-eating horror from an alternate reality that lives in a magic scythe and sometimes sings K/DA songs in dive bars.
That should cover everything! I also want to take the time to say while Stellari was right in noting that most skinlines are just skinlines with a story, that's really from a product perspective. From a narrative perspective, they're all part of a fairly vibrant (but mostly unconnected!) multiverse. It's a small, but important distinction!
Hope that helps!

Ironically this was his de facto old lore. An evil scarecrow someone summoned that they didn't know what to do with, so they just kinda left him in a closet. He ended up being an execution tool, as the Institute of War would tell people they didn't like to go grab something from the closet and then Fiddlesticks would come to life and kill them. I imagine that conversation went like this:
SUMMONING COUNCIL: you have been found guilty of breaking the laws of the institute. your punishment... is to grab us a broom from the old closet on the second floor.
DEFENDANT: the closet people have been vanishing in for, like, three years?
SUMMONING COUNCIL: nobody vanishes from that closet. we don't know what you're talking about.
DEFENDANT: you send people in there all the time. just last week you sent a guy in there for a doran's and we all heard him yell, "Oh no, please don't murder me in this closet!" then he got murdered.
SUMMONING COUNCIL: sounds like a janitorial issue.
DEFENDANT: it's not a janitorial issue.
SUMMONING COUNCIL: we said it sounds like one, not that it was one. you should pay attention to the way we say things.
DEFENDANT: i'm not going in the closet.
SUMMONING COUNCIL: GUARDS, PUT THE DEFENDANT IN THE MURDER CLOSET.

Hah! Love this book. I read The King in Yellow cover-to-cover when I was still in high school, along with most of Lovecraft's library (ironically this is when I realized that Lovecraft was a terrible human being). The kind of horror I gravitate towards these days is many magnitudes more disturbing than "guy with a weird head" or "small yellow goblin man gets mauled to death by cat." Mostly revolving around human psychoses, but also liminal spaces, horrors of the natural world (versus eldritch, outer-space-horror), and plays on religious iconography/ritual that border on exaltation.
Regardless, I have some ideas I'm playing with for Fiddle right now that I hope will surprise you in all the right ways (you pee a little). In my interview five years ago they asked what champion I wanted to write for the most. It was Fiddle then, and remains Fiddle now.
I'm very excited.

This is half true. The problem was that BA Kai'Sa released before GGMF, so if we had any lines targeting Miss Fortune it would have inadvertently leaked the release. Instead we put a little teaser in one of her emotes, where she's looking at a bounty board and GGMF's face comes up.
If you're curious, we're finding ways around this by having semi-specific interactions we can later tie to other characters. It's a bit of an imprecise science for now, but hopefully we'll have a fix for this one day.

Considering the wharf rat diet (as I understand it) includes (but is not limited to) garbage, plant matter, insects, fish, amphibians, birds, small mammals, medium mammals, large mammals, rotten meat, fresh meat, dead bodies, alive bodies, and occasionally other wharf rats, it's likely that wharf rats and poros wouldn't get along.
You could try putting them together, though.
Might be fun.

Indeed they are! We've not added skinlines or set adjustments for the last two patches because it would mess with the loot system, but starting this patch you'll see the elves line. We've decided to call it **Albion**.
It's also separate from everything else at the moment, so it's a self-contained setting.

TIL what an anacoluthon is.
Here's how I make sense of it:
"As a practitioner of masked dance drama many of Shaco's performances begin as social commentary..."
versus
"A practitioner of masked dance drama, many of Shaco's performances begin as social commentary..."
That comma replaces the "as" at the beginning of a sentence. Granted that doesn't work with the Zilean bio aaaaaaand my grasp of English grammar is... well, poor at best lol.
Now I'm gonna go ask one of our editors to see if that makes sense or if I'm just completely wrong. Woo! Learning something new everyday.
It's grammatically acceptable in English, but English is a nonsense language and translates poorly almost everywhere. If it wasn't grammatically accurate I doubt I'd ever have been hired, as I use them.... quite a bit.

Not harsh at all.
How many players log into league each month? 100 million? Somewhere around there? I swear I work here. I totally should know this.
Anyway, there is no conceivable way that every individual of a hundred million people is going to like everything we make. It's statistically impossible. So it's no biggie if you don't personally like something. You're more than entitled to do so! But _a lot of people do_. And I mean _a lot_.

> 3. Ask the Universe Team to create a better way to find all the skin stuff. Things like High Noon, PROJECT and Blood Moon are difficult to find if you don't know where exactly to look. It is fine for Veterans like me, but is really bad for people who are new on the website.

We're working on this actively! Freshening up and revitalizing old skinline narratives that could be even better is something we're always considering, and when the stars align over an older line I'm always excited to play with it and see what kind of adjustments we can make. They won't always get the full treatment, but many get _something_, even if it's just the blurbs.
|
|||||
![]()
The goal is to eventually have all the skins (or almost all the skins) get bios. It's a bit of a ways off, but that's what we're hoping!
|
|||||

Battlecast, Mecha, and P/P are quite separate, I'm afraid. It made way more sense that way than a giant robot fist-fight that wrapped a lot of wacky alt canons together with duct tape. I know! I'm sorry you only get Puslefire robot fights! But that's the way it must be, for the good of the land (and our sanity).
Steel Valks and Odyssey was actually considered, but ultimately the universes are a little different as we have them written behind the scenes, so we kept them apart (and the end result was much better for it).
Eclipse will get something. Not sure when, but eventually.
|
|||||
![]()
There's nothing bad about being honest, so don't feel like you have to apologize! That said:
While I understand the alt fiction isn't for everybody, the idea that it should only be used as a marketing tool and never otherwise (or even that people don't want to engage with it) is directly contradicted by player engagement data. Not just contradicted, but _massively_ contradicted. I wish I could be more specific than that, but the numbers are... I will say even I was a bit surprised.
There is also no real overlap between alt fantasy writing and main lore writing, so there is no risk of the main lore being hampered by what we do over on alt fiction.

Separate writers, separate resources. Skin lore will never impede or “slow down” development of main-canon lore.
And yeah, Eclipse/Coven is uh... requested a lot. A whole lot.
