: Your opinion of the rules is of zero relevance. When a cop stops you for going 40 in a 25 zone, you can claim "I think the limit should be 45 here" all you want. You're still getting a ticket. If a librarian asks you to keep your voice down while you use the facilities, shouting that libraries should be loud will simply get you escorted out. If you go to a friend's house who insists that you remove your shoes while you're in their home, "that's a stupid rule and I do what I want" will lose you a friend. If you are using someone else's services, facilities, equipment, etc., you abide by their rules or you deal with the consequences. If you think the rules should change, that is a completely different conversation (and I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for your chances at convincing Riot to change their rules to allow behavior like yours). From [Riot's support knowledgebase](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024051193-Understanding-Different-Ban-Types-FAQs): > We work with the overall community and within our own company guidelines to identify what disruptive behavior is and what the consequences for those behaviors should be. We understand that it can be difficult to know where the line is, which is why we provide chat logs and we have a few tiers in the ban process in order to allow for you to learn and grow. You weren't punished for misbehaving in one game. You were punished for misbehaving in _one more_ game, in a consistent pattern of negative behavior that breaks the game's rules. Additionally, the reform card doesn't always show all the logs that led to your punishment: it randomly selects up to several logs. You might see three logs, but you also might see as few as one, even for players whose punishment stems not from a small number of egregious infractions but rather from dozens of instances of mild toxicity. The purpose of the reform card is to tell you how to reform, so it shows you an example of the behavior that prompted your punishment and explains that such behavior is inappropriate and should be avoided if you want to maintain an account in good standing. Usually, one transgression by itself wouldn't be enough to bring such a punishment to an otherwise clean account, but the IFS works on an escalating punishment system. Breaking a minor rule, like engaging the team in useless arguments, has a minor punishment: a chat restriction. Breaking that same rule over and over again, however, doesn't prompt an endless series of chat restrictions. The severity of the punishment ramps up over time, because the goal is to eliminate the punished player's willingness to break the game's rules. If two chat restrictions don't stop the useless arguments, the system will increase the punishment to a 14-day suspension and deliver a very clear message that the continued rule-breaking is becoming a serious issue and any further instances will result in a permaban. Again, the point is to put a stop to this misbehavior. If a player is more interested in repeatedly breaking the rules than in maintaining access to their account, they'll lose access to their account. Of course, it's possible to break major rules, like cheating, threatening people, or using chat for hate speech, and skip punishment tiers so that a clean account ends up with a 14-day suspension or even a permaban. From [Riot's support knowledgebase](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/207489286-Instant-Feedback-System-FAQ-): > **PUNISHMENTS GENERALLY FOLLOW A BASIC ESCALATION PATH:** > > * First Offense: 10 Game Chat Restriction > * Second Offense: 25 Game Chat Restriction > * Third Offense: Two Week Suspension > * Fourth Offense: Permanent Suspension > > However, it is possible to skip to a Two Week or Permanent suspension based on the severity of the behavior in the game. Excessive negative behavior can result in a Two-Week or Permanent suspension at any time without having a chat restriction on the account. From [Riot's support knowledgebase](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/207489286-Instant-Feedback-System-FAQ-): > We have a zero-tolerance policy for extreme negative behavior as well as extremely offensive language and remarks made in game towards other players. Since it is a severe disregard for the Summoner’s Code this sort of behavior can result in skipping to a Two week or Permanent suspension. Suspensions of this degree based on negative behavior will not likely be reduced or removed.
Well, whatever I got banned. Does this mean that I skipped the first and second offense and hit 3rd? So next time I make an offense of any kind I get perma-banned?

: If they tell you "when you come into my house, you agree to be beaten if you do this", then you're agreeing to it. People are permitted to set rules for their houses, just as any other contract.
doesn't make that fair tho LMAO. So if I agree to be killed, thats fair to kill me eh?

: NB3 typed K why S and Isnt perma banned, but yet hes still talking against me.
Honestly, you stole his jungle creep for no reason. What do you expect? hugs and kisses?

: Typing it once does not trigger a ban. Not defending him or anything , but typing it like that once in a while won't get you banned.
I said the F-word for gay people once today and got banned for 14 days LMAO.
: This has run its course, and it's still a **you** problem. Have a good night!
And the point we are trying to make is that if you are calling someone out for inting. That's great! Go do it more but you don't know if that person is inting on purpose or if he's just having a bad game. hence the reason they are calling you a judge, jury, executioner, because you put a label on someone as an inter without even knowing FOR 100% sure without your own biased view that they are inting. You assumed that the brand is a inter, right? They are assuming you as a judge, jury, and executioner? Did you like that feeling? It's the same stuff. That's why people are calling you toxic even if your intent may have not been to be toxic.
: After being hardstuck silver for 4 years.. I reached Gold!
There is a lot of things that you probably could have worked on. I was in the same situation until this season. Hard, Stuck, Silver/low Gold. However this season I climbed to Plat 4. I'm gonna list out a few things's I learned. 1, Jungle pathing, as a top lane main, the junglers location is vital, yours and the enemies. Constant knowledge of where they are and where they should be is very beneficial as it can tell you to engage your enemy laner or just stay away. for example if the jungler started near your lane you know they could lvl 2 gank for a cheese so ward early, estimate his clear pathing and you should know that he's on the other side by now. 2, Wave control, learn to manage the wave so that the wave is always near you. This allows the jgler to gank you easier and allows you to be in a better position as the enemy jungler will find it hard to gank you. - This is for when you are ahead as there is no way to manage your wave if you are behind. 3, CS. just go to a custom game and CS for hours. 12-15 cs is like a kill. if you are 10 cs behind your laner you are already a kill behind. 4, Map awareness + river skirmishes. Your jungler NEEDS you. if you arent watching the map and seeing where he is you can't help him when he needs help. Be aware of what your teammates are doing. If the jungler goes in for a invade just stay near the river incase he needs you to help/escape. 5, Do not rely on your teamates. This might be a top lane thing, and I am a bit of a selfish player. Unless you are duo queing and YOU KNOW for 100% that guy can help you win, just take all the kills. Don't expect the jgler to gank. Don't expect your teammate to block a skill shot for you. Just do everything that you can yourself 6, learn how to use your lead, if you are ahead, dont waste it by wasting your time. Nothing is worse than a laner doing nothing with their obvious lead. If you are a Darius that is 6/2 and obviously can fight 2 guys, split push a side lane and buy time for your teammates so they can farm or force a 3v4 7, don't play if you are tilted. just play aram if you are on a 2 lose streak. have fun, don't play when you dont know what you are doing because you are so tilted. Even though all this is said, some games are just unwinnable, however, you can increase the chances of winning by working on your own individual skill to dominate your lane.

: You can try to talk to Riot support and see if they are willing to lower it for you as a first time offender. But hate speech's standard penalty is a 14-Day ban. Those lighter punishments are for lighter offenses.
I tried but honestly, I don't even know how to approach this because this is my first-time Lmao.
: This has run its course, and it's still a **you** problem. Have a good night!
That guy has been telling me to do nothing on my discussion too. It's to write something in the discussion board if you find a problem with the game, and honestly, your issue is something that needs to be said. However, it is also easy to be seen that your argument is subjective because that brand could've just been having a bad game. Let's look at it this way, if you're 3 levels under and have significantly less gold due to the fact that you died 3x? 2x? and wasted time in the death screen and walking. There is nothing you can do to survive, even under the tower. As a top lane main, something like this is something I face daily as it is REALLY hard to get out of a slump once you are losing. League is like an exponential curve. if you are winning it's REALLY easy to continue winning due to gold and experience. If you are losing, vice versa. Also, your jungler probably found it really difficult to approach a lane that was losing that hard and couldn't do anything to help the bot lane out which adds into the exponential curve of league.
: > Also, me suddenly stop playing won't really do much to grab Riot's attention. It will do a lot more than coming here with your attempts to garner sympathy from **people who are vehemently against the use of hate speech and what it stands for**. You aren't going to get a rally going here, dude.
As the metaphor goes "the straw that broke the camels back." I'm not here for a rally, I'm here to add to the bucket. Dude.
: You have no first amendment rights in someone else's house. If you don't like Riot's rules, your option is to not play. If you choose to break those rules, you'll get punished.
Well, if that punishment happens to be a beating, instead of something fair. I would obviously complain and contact the local officials.
: Hey, if you’re an “avid believer of the First Amendment, maybe you should read up a little bit to actually understand what it means. The 1st Amendment protects you from *government* regulation of speech. Not any regulation of speech. It absolutely boggles my mind how many people are absolutely ignorant when it comes to this fact.
You are about 30 mins too late to correct me about this. I already learned thanks to the guy above.
: That's not a metaphor. It's not even a simile, despite the presence of the word "like". It's a slur.
Again, the purpose of this is not to argue whether what I did is right or wrong. But the fairness of Riot's action. I could have learned with a less severe penalty of 7-days or a 10-30 game chat-restriction.
: Dude, this is not a social issue that you need to fight. These are the rules of a private organization. If I have a party, you're invited, and the rules of my house include "No Green Socks," you can think it's stupid or unfair all you want. No amount of complaining is going to change it. Your choices are to wear socks of a different color or to not come to my party. That's how you can attempt to influence change - by not going. Want Riot to change their rules? Stop supporting them and don't play. If enough users of hate speech take a stand, I'm sure they'll cave. /s
And I think the rules are stupid and I want to change something about it. That's basically what I am here for. I may not do much about it right now at this moment. But even rocks break in the approachment of time. This is no different, I'm just sending my complaint so certain issues are surfaced. And maybe after some time, things might change. Also, me suddenly stop playing won't really do much to grab Riot's attention. Much less than writing about in the discussion board so that they can see and maybe do something about it.
: > [{quoted}](name=Prodigious Mid,realm=NA,application-id=ZGEFLEUQ,discussion-id=gEpGhEgX,comment-id=000000000002000000000000000100000000,timestamp=2019-08-12T20:56:26.724+0000)Yes, however, if you perceive things to be unfair, it should be brought to the notice so changes may occur. This has been brought to Riot's attention numerous times by a number of punished individuals. Riot's stance appears to be that hate-filled language has no place on their platform, and deserves no sympathy or lessening of the punishment. The casual use of derogatory language is something they take a very strong stance against.
Which is why I bring up my discussion so I'm part of those people that are giving this subject to riot's attention. If there is no problem, why are there, as you stated, "numberous times by a number of punished individuals." It's like the feather that broke the camel's back. I may be a drop in a bucket, but it adds up and may do something in the future. And also the reason why many more will continue to say this instant, severe penalty is unfair, after I say mine.
: What makes it worse is that the owners of the venue (Riot) have determined that hate speech is worse than any other types of negativity in chat. This is what makes it "fair" whether you agree with it or not. If you don't agree with a company's rules, you have the choice to not support them by consuming their product. Additionally, it's **hate speech** not by Riot's definition. It's a homophobic slur that you need to retire from your vocabulary before you use it without thinking in real life and end up losing a job, a relationship, a friendship, or some teeth.
Not necessarily, if you only follow something that is deemed "fair" it's nothing more than following something blindly. If I think something is unfair. I bring it up to explain why I think it's unfair and give my opinion on why certain things need to be changed. That is basically how things change and progress. If I just blindly accepted my fate, then nothing changes in the world. It is up to the people to bring about change. People that are too accepting bring about no difference. Also, you are right. I am the customer that consumes Riot's product and it is also the consumer's job to update the sellers a problem in their product. When you go to McDonald's and find a hair in a burger, do you just accept it and munch on? Most likely, No. You complain and get a new burger or money back. You also probably complain in yelp and put a comment talking about the problems in the restaurant so that the owner's attention is peaked.
: > [{quoted}](name=Prodigious Mid,realm=NA,application-id=ZGEFLEUQ,discussion-id=gEpGhEgX,comment-id=0000000000020000000000000001,timestamp=2019-08-12T20:50:25.176+0000) > > Still, I don't think this was fair, that's why I put it up. Ultimately, the punished party in a given situation rarely finds the punishment earned to be "fair." Additionally, the goal of the punishment is not to be perceived as fair to the punished party -- the goal is to make it very clear that a line was crossed that *is not acceptable to cross*.
Yes, however, if you perceive things to be unfair, it should be brought to the notice so changes may occur. I never said that my actions warrant no penalty. I just said that it was too severe, I could have learned the same lesson with a 20 game chat-restriction would have done the same job or even a 10 game. I just think that the penalty was too immediate and severe. There could have been like a 7- day restriction before I got slammed by this whammy.
: Honestly, thanks for teaching me something. I'm young and didn't know that fact.
Still, I don't think this was fair, that's why I put it up.
: > [{quoted}](name=Prodigious Mid,realm=NA,application-id=ZGEFLEUQ,discussion-id=gEpGhEgX,comment-id=0000000000020000,timestamp=2019-08-12T20:45:34.383+0000)The freedom of speech means literally freedom of speech, saying something with no repercussions. From the ***Constitution:*** >***Congress*** shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Emphasis mine. Freedom of speech as a concept in US law applies to legislation by the government. It has never applied to private institutions.
Honestly, thanks for teaching me something. I'm young and didn't know that fact.
: There are certain words that trigger a ban, you obviously used one of them. Also, the first amendment isn't being breached. You have a right to free speech and you exercised it. You do not have a right to go on without a consequence to your actions so you got punished as per the ToS
Technically it is because I'm being restricted in the amount of vocabulary I am allowed to display in fear of a repercussion. The freedom of speech means literally freedom of speech, saying something with no repercussions.
: > I did not call them directly the f-word. I used the f-word as a metaphor. Dude. No. You behaved poorly, you got punished for it, and now you're trying to make it seem not as bad. It was bad. You're not going to gain any sympathy from people when you use hate speech in any way.
As I said, I know I did something bad and I admitted to the fact. The reason I sent this is that I don't think a straight-up ban is fair. More so the duration. I never said I don't want any punishment, I said the severity is too much. I've seen players get chat-restricted for far more, what makes this so much worse?
: > Prodigious Mid: the only reason this game went for so long is because you and bot fed like a %%%%%% Prodigious Mid: and you finnaly got fed enough by picking up kills Prodigious Mid: %%%%%% is not racist Hate speech is an immediately escalated punishment, so that's why you got the 14-day suspension. Whatever the case, you used either a colorfully racist N-word or a colorfully homophobic F-word and this punishment is 1000% deserved. Talking to someone like that in a video game is really, really sad.
I did not call them directly the f-word. I used the f-word as a metaphor.
: This is absolutely fair. You may have had 5 years of good behavior, but using homophobic hate speech is not a *minor* violation -- it's a *severe breach of the terms of use*, and earns escalated punishments.
As an avid believer of the first amendment, and following the definition of hate speech- which does not exist. I did not call anything to action. Also, I did not directly call them the derogatory word I used a metaphor. As such, I do not believe this is fair because A, I had a clean record before this. B, It is not like I was purposefully using it to hurt someone directly. C, There was no warning, just a straight-up ban.
