: Not gonna lie, pretty disappointed with this decision, honestly feels like yet another thing Riot starts and then jumps ship on because it's "too hard" Been waiting on lore for certain skins (Guqin Sona, as an example. She's like the only Lunar Revel skin that never got lore. Did you guys just forget her or something??) And it's a shame they won't ever get any.
To clarify, we're not jumping ship. It isn't that it's too hard, it's that this is a passion project. All skins will eventually get descriptions, we're just prioritizing new skins and older skins part of sets with new skins. In retrospect, perhaps we shouldn't have written any of them if we couldn't do all of them--but we're trying our best to get all of them completed.
: Any plans for the academy to join battle academy?
Academy is an example of a skin line that was made for purely cosmetic reasons. Battle Academia went through a thematic development stage of several months where we decided what the look/feel/sound was, who the students are, the weapons, the world, etc. There's a chance in the future that the Academy skinline could be reworked into Battle Academia. But I personally view this akin to how we can have different flavors of anime skins, or mecha robot style skins, or Chinese fantasy skins. Academy is rooted in more real world schools, Battle Academia is like a shounen anime in League.
: >Something I've had to explain a bit on Twitter is that the vast majority of skin sets are still simply that: a set of skins for the Skins Collection Tab that also happen to have flavor text. They aren’t considered “full universes.” Only the skins listed in the Universe page are skins we consider to have full alternate universe lore. Then what special criteria make a skinline into "Full universe" as opposed to a regular old skinline?
> [{quoted}](name=N1C Jeddy017,realm=NA,application-id=6kFXY1kR,discussion-id=pGW5OETU,comment-id=0001,timestamp=2019-05-17T01:38:53.306+0000) > > Then what special criteria make a skinline into "Full universe" as opposed to a regular old skinline? Backstory on the world, additional narrative or cinematic pieces, etc. Most modern skin lines have a little bit of this (Cosmic, Dark Star, etc) but most don't. We're currently building some older ones out into proper thematics with backstory.
: Are there any skins you're finding it hard to place into a group?
> [{quoted}](name=Deep Terror Nami,realm=NA,application-id=6kFXY1kR,discussion-id=pGW5OETU,comment-id=0000,timestamp=2019-05-17T01:37:08.965+0000) > > Are there any skins you're finding it hard to place into a group? We could theoretically put anything into a group, but we want them to be good and have effort put into them. Skarner, for example, has some skins we don't super know what to do with. I imagine if/when he gets reworked, Earthrune Skarner could be super cool.
: There are some skins that kind of bug me because they look like they belong in a universe with other skins but they aren't. Take, for example, Blood Knight Hecarim. This skin looks like its a part of Blood Moon, but its not. It has no lore suggesting that its connected to that universe in any way and its not included in the Blood Moon universe in general. Do you guys have any future plans to take a look at skins like this and try to work them into other universes, or will they just be lonely, loreless one-offs forever?

Those are the skins I'm talking about, there's a few that are honestly from a different time at Riot. These days, every skin has some kind of internal back story, so it's just a matter of putting it into the client. For some of these older ones, it's a conversation with Champion team about what their plans are for reworks, hunting down old marketing stuff, etc. We do want to eventually make sure everything has a description, it's just some of these outliers will take longer because we want teams to have a chance to turn them into something cool.

Yes, that will happen eventually. Either when new skins for that set comes out, or just later. We will still release them, just slower than before.

: Confirmed No more Taliyah skins planned for 2018.
Hi, So I actually went into this more on Twitter but people didn't see the rest of the Tweets. We do our planning quarterly, more or less. As of *right now* July 27, 2018 we don't have one planned. We also don't have all the skins for 2018 planned yet, but we have the big beats. We start planning in 2019 soon, because we know certain things: We know what Chinese Zodiac year it is. We know which Legendaries we're considering, which champ needs a skin, which new thematic we want to try. We do not plan things for 2019 in July 2018. :) You can see the thread here https://twitter.com/TheStarWeaver/status/1011775228584845313
: A Quick Question on Skin Releases
> What goes into answering that? Most of the others seem like they could be supported with hard data, but it's unclear to me what a 'risk' is in this context (I mean theres a risk that a skin will be unpopular, but that's true of every skin) and how one could determine if it's worth it while still being responsible with the skin teams time. > Hi~ I'm one of the two product managers/producers on skins (SuperCakes is my boss). My job is basically to answer all of those questions above. The question about risk is particularly challenging, and it's probably the one that requires the most general insight into our players, global tastes, what's resonant in pop culture and media, and just gut calls. As an example, Pug'maw was a risk. We decided to make him an actual dog--that was a controversial move internally, and players were also divided. It was risky because he hadn't had a skin in awhile at the time and the art style was very polarizing--but it was mitigated by releasing it during April Fools, where that sort of silly skin could also be embraced. But we wondered if it went _too far_. It turned out to be the right call to make, but as with all risks, you won't know until the very end. After doing this for awhile, you start building up a pretty good gut to making these kind of calculated risks/gut calls--but you know, we're human so it's not a science or anything ^_^

: How detailed will they be? Will they cover most of their part of lore in the client? Like as you said with Eternal sword yi? Another example would be Jhin skins, we know nearly nothing about Blood Moon, but a lot about Project Jhin, so compared to those how much info will there be available in the client? And what about e-sports skins?

Another example would be Jhin skins, we know nearly nothing about Blood Moon, but a lot about Project Jhin, so compared to those how much info will there be available in the client? And what about e-sports skins? The intent wasn't to go deep here--for our deep thematics (Project, Star Guardian) we release info into the world. For the Skins Collection tab, our goal was to just give players who loved these skins a little more into the skin. Esports skins do have blurbs, but they're related to why they exist.

: Academy Taliyah confirmed?
Public School Taliyah to counter the Academy snobs, imo! Keepin it real XD
Luminier (NA)
: How old is Taliyah? Who do you think would be her closest friends, if she could know every champion? (Excluding Yasuo, of course)
Taliyah is about 16. Personally, I think she'd probably be friends with Ekko (maybe a crush? She is a teenager.) For some reason, I imagine her looking up to Ashe as a young leader and finding Lux kind of annoying. This is just my version of a Runeterra High that exists in my head though.
: Hi guys! I just have one thing about Taliyah's story that I don't understand. So when she's coming back home she sees Azir's sun disk and thinks her family is in danger of being enslaved. Isn't Azir a good guy who just wants to see Shurima thrive?
Taliyah doesn't really know that--Azir planned to release all the slaves at the culmination of his Ascension ritual, but Xerath’s treachery and the destruction of the city left no one alive who might have known of that plan. Plus, all she's heard are second (third-fourth-fifth) hand rumors. It's like a giant Runeterran game of telephone!
: 1. have taliyah and tahm kench ever met? 2. why are so many new champions getting large movement abilities (ie: aurelion sol, tahm kench, bard and now taliyah)? 3. are there any plans for tahm kench buffs? 4. were you guys influenced by the earth benders from avatar the last airbender while designing taliyah? 5. why does she have such a different looking face compared to a lot of other human female champs (that nose and those eye brows...)?
> why does she have such a different looking face compared to a lot of other human female champs (that nose and those eye brows...)? This is not an official art answer, but Runeterra's a really big place with a lot of different types of looking people.
: Is she fascinated by malphite at all?
I imagine that she must be! It's probably like meeting an extremely life-like robot/android to her.
: What was your favorite part about designing her, and why was Jhin so hyped up with all the teasers and some champion weren't hyped at all, is it because the amount of time spent into them?
> why was Jhin so hyped up with all the teasers and some champion weren't hyped at all, is it because the amount of time spent into them? There's a variety of reasons (that don't always apply to every champion): how long the champion is in development, our resources on the promo team at the time, what format and medium work best for the champion, what else is going on in the League of Legends universe (is it Worlds? is it start of season?) and a lot of other factors. Some champion stories are best told in comic form, or video form--some are best in short story form. For Jhin in particular, we had a lot of time to work on his promotion...and he's the sort of champion that evokes a sense of mystery, so secretive hidden teasers worked well for him. He was also released during a period where we don't put out a lot of other content, so he got the main stage (how fitting for him!) For Taliyah, on the other hand, we really felt her personality was best revealed through a short story and that the animation gave a good look into her play style. There's actually a very decent amount of content for Taliyah that came out, but there was also MSI and Mid-Season Magic happening at the same time so it may have not seemed that way. She did get a long lore piece (which is in addition to her bio) and an animated teaser, afterall :) Annnnd we're not quite done with her yet.

: 1. With Taliyah out, I've been wondering about magic in Runeterra. Her dev blog said that magic is rare, which is why she had problems getting teachers. Are her powers able to be copied by others or does she have so much free control over the earth that it would be impossible to replicate through spells? 2. Is magic fully innate or can everyday people learn magic? 3. Was she originally designed for the Freljord? Given her champ specific lines in her Freljord skin, it sounds like she would have been an important player in the war. 4. Her spike field spell and Cass's grounded mechanic showcase a more heavy focus on anti-mobility spells. While I know {{champion:78}} has an anti-dash mechanic, are you planning to keep such anti-mobility mechanics as a mainly mage thing in the future?
> Is magic fully innate or can everyday people learn magic? There's things in Runeterra that are infused with magic and could theoretically be used by everyday people, and there's people who're born with it. But in general, magic is super rare in Runeterra (which it may not feel like sometimes, since we have so many magic users...but this is League of Legends and not League of Ordinary People).
: Demacia is not too fond of magic and people from foreign lands after dealing with Noxus on their proverbial doorstep for such a long time. Taliyah would try to avoid Demacia on her way home. However if she ran into someone from Demacia, she would try get to know them as an individual. She would think Yordles are adorable.

: I and quite a few others feel like the release videos showing the abilities would be far better if they also showed them mid-battle (even if still mocked). Is this something that we could see in the future? I don't mind the stationary targets, but it really doesn't always show the usage of the spells. For example Taliyah's Q video doesn't show her able to move around while casting.
That's something we're considering! We released an ability video on Facebook that was all the abilities in context (mid-combat), so we may do something similar again in the future! Thanks for the feedback.
Hydrac (NA)
: Taliyah seems to have a quote with Rek'sai. Does Rek'sai terrorize her tribe as well or does she pick off those who are alone? Also why does Taliyah fear the greatest quote of all time, other than Rammus, "Shurima, your emperor has returned"?
Taliyah and her tribe know to stay far away from the Sai where Rek'sai (and the rest of the Xer'sai) live.
: Is she able to weave metal? If she is, would she be able to destroy the sun disc? c:
I don't know if she's that interested in metal ^_^ But in my head she could probably do it if she just tried...I mean, aren't rocks and some types of metal basically the same thing?
: The part when she burrowed Yasuo, and rushed to help him, despite she didn't know who he was and he could possibly be an enemy, but because of the fact that she caused all this mess it outweighed the logical thinking, the emotions (and possible feeling of guilt) took over. I think she might have very high personal expectations. She wants to fully control her powers, and get better at it. When she heard that Yasuo was accused of murder and Yasuo told her that he is not guilty, she simply knew that he is not, like she has a very strong intuition, and trusts it. MBTI really fascinates me, however, personally I'm pretty crappy at identifying MBTI personalities. It would be so cool if you guys had a list of all the champions and their MBTI personality :)
> It would be so cool if you guys had a list of all the champions and their MBTI personality :) That'd be a interesting exercise to just try and do for fun! I think your assessment is pretty good, especially the emotion outweighing the logic part!
: Oh! So the 'y' is mute? as in Thalia? Tah LEE ah, not Tah LEE Jah?
I think it depends on how you pronounce it (and what your native language is). I say it somewhere in between Tah-LEE-ah and Tah-LEE-yah with an American accent ^_^
: How worldly is Taliyah? Judging from her story, not much since she doesn't know about the existence of Freljord or that dealing with Noxians never goes well.
Taliyah's been pretty close to home in Shurima for most of her life, so you're right to say she's not very worldly at this point--but she's a quick, and eager, learner!
: What is Taliyah's greatest fear?
Her greatest fear is not being able to protect her family...and she's not keen on drowning.
: if taliyah was a high school student what sports/clubs do you think she would be involved in?
Geology club, surfing club - have you seen this fanart by Jason Chan, one of the artists who worked on her promo? :D http://jasonchan-art.tumblr.com/post/144119206458/some-sketching-between-work-fan-art-of-taliyah-in#_=_

Taric's probably always loved great meals with wine and the company of friends, in my head cannon he loves fine dining and whatever the Runeterran version of molecular gastronomy is. He probably loves kale. He probably takes pictures of his food.

We don't have anything planned lore-wise for Taric in the near future.
: Hey guys, I’m a HUGE fan of Taric, he was the first support champion I ever bought with IP way back in S2, and I love what you guys have done with him! He looks better than I could have hoped, and I’m happy to see him finally getting the love he deserves! I have a few questions for you guys (a little bit for each of you): 1. In the Taric dev podcast, you guys mentioned that each Aspect has a little more Targon or a little more humanity in them in a unique way from and Aspect to Aspect basis. I know you guys said you threw out the chart/graph/whatever, but can you tell us where the other Aspects stand in regards to this system. Pantheon is obviously 99-100% War Aspect with little to no human, but where do Diana and Leona stand? 2. Going along with this, would it be accurate to say that The Protector see’s Aurelion Sol’s slavery to the star crown as unjust? Or is that more Taric’s thing, and he and the Protector don’t have to agree on every minute detail? His quote to Aurelion Sol is that “No star should be bound.” Taric even sounds a bit reverent when he says it. (Also, Yuri Lowenthal did such a good job!) 3. In the update, you’ve switched Taric’s hammer to a mace. What was the reasoning behind this? Was it because you wanted to leave everything Old Taric behind, or was it more to do with his “new” battle cleric theme, and clerics being more associated with maces?’ 4. Before Taric became the Aspect of the Protector, did he have any magical potential? And how strong was he? Garen is obviously very strong but doesn’t exactly have magic, it seems. Obviously becoming an Aspect powers you up, I’m just curious where he stood among humans before his ascension to aspecthood. 5. I can’t imagine this new ultimate, Cosmic Radiance, was the first one you came up with when developing his new kit. Can you tell us about some other things you concepted before settling on this one? 6. Taric’s comic, Ascent, is my favorite piece of out-of-the-game content I’ve seen in a very long time. I’m currently using the final image of Ascent as my desktop, it’s so beautiful! What was the process for writing this piece, and how did you decide on the art style? (also, the “guy” near the top, was that a (fake) Noxian or a (fake) Freljordian?) And not a question, but I really liked the part where it looks like he was going to slap the guy, but instead he gave him his cape! And the line “I know, but I promise I’ll never stop trying” actually made my heart race! So good! 7. Can you tell us about some VO lines that didn’t quite make the cut but you liked? I was surprised you didn’t go for an allied Ezreal taunt! (Love him in the armor of the fifth age splash, though!) 8. Did any of your exploration into this rework get affected by the threads IronStylus made way back when talk of a Taric rework even happening started? Some of the suggestions in those threads seem to have been taken to heart, but I guess it’s possible you went that way on your own. 9. Was Emerald Taric always going to go the foresty/nature route or did you have any other ideas? That’s probably enough pestering you, thanks again for the rework! And sorry about the lengthy post!
> Taric’s comic, Ascent, is my favorite piece of out-of-the-game content I’ve seen in a very long time. I’m currently using the final image of Ascent as my desktop, it’s so beautiful! I'm super happy to hear that you liked the Ascent, it was a labor of love for us. Literal blood, sweat and tears (okay, no blood.) For writing, we wanted to give players a way to 'say goodbye' and that he was leaving his past behind. Everyone was really drawn to the story of Taric's climb on Targon and what that might be like for him. For the art style, we wanted to do something a little different than the other comics we've done (I also produced the Poppy comic)--since Taric was Demacian, we wanted something more "Demacia." A little more traditional, painterly, and classic. [edit] And the dude at the top is a Noxian :)

Have those 2 ever met? That would be cool. Hey~ I'm the brand manager for Poppy (and all Champion updates + Kindred in the past) and also produced the comic. How we decide what to make depends on a lot of factors--production time, scope of the update, what medium or format really sells the Champion and the team feels will resonate (and a lot of other things!) For Poppy, we all felt that a lot of what makes her so compelling is her small stature + big hammer, and also her crazy ulti -- couple that with her endearing story about being a hero, but not realizing it. It's a super human, relatable story. I felt that needed to be told visually. John had a great story for her and Jason and Dan could tell it with beautiful art, so we felt that a comic told that story in the best way given the constraints. This was the most fun project I've worked on. :) As for whether or not they've met. I'm not sure. XD
: Now that you've done the full splash selection thingy for Poppy's update, does this mean more splash art upgrades for older champions/newer VUs?
