^This, but also the patch is separate from the datacenter maintenance we are doing. Also, just to be clear, it didn't install 5GB. I believe the patch size should be somewhere around 1.5GB for this patch. The number you're seeing is normally bigger than the actual download size as it includes some amount of processing/non-network kinda stuff like applying the patches, but since this patch is much bigger than normal, it kind of ballooned the listed number.

The good news is that it looks like the purchases are still being tracked, there just seems to be an issue with granting the RP to the account itself. Once that can be resolved the RP should be granted to the account as normal (just a little delayed) Edit: Looks like as I was writing this message the issue was fixed and RP should be granted :D

West coast shouldn't have been affected by this outage given the circumstances, so I'd recommend submitting a player support ticket to have someone look at what's going on in your specific case. This specific issue shouldn't affect any purchases, though definitely submit a ticket to player support if you happen to notice anything funky once you're able to log back in.

I've ran the patcher on two separate computers and logged into two separate computers. I left it a lone at that point. At what point do I re-try to open the client, the last time I did that it restarted the game timer.
Yeah, that's definitely an unusual amount of time. Can you do us a favor and submit a ticket? You'll likely get a response explaining the situation, but definitely want to make sure we are tracking issues like this (tickets are easier to track collectively than boards posts). In terms of the game timer, it shouldn't have any effect on the total amount of time really. Personally I'd say it should be fine to try every ~20-30 minutes or so. Not a technical estimate by any means, but just practically probably a decent amount of time to see whether or not anything has changed.

: Not really. I log in, it auto loads me in to a black screen and says I can't connect. I hit retry, it fails. I hit cancel, I go to the landing page with only a reconnect button and my chat. Game shows I am in game and starts ticking at 0:01. After a while, the game tries to reconnect me again, it fails, and the game time resets to 0:01 again.
Gotcha. This is happening because your client thinks you're in a game still and is trying to reconnect you to a game that no longer exists. The "2-3 hours" is referencing the time it could take until your client finally realizes you're not in a game and stops trying to reconnect you.

Hard to say. Normally, yes (just might not see the popup or anything), but we've had some reports from the ghost games yesterday that this wasn't the case. It'd actually be helpful if you could let us know what you see once you're out of the ghost state

When you say players are stuck for up to 2-3 hours, are they staying in one continuous ghost game for that long for the bug to work itself out? Or is the time cumulative to when the bug started, regardless of the reset of the ghost game from relogging?
I'm not sure what you mean, but "2-3 hours" means from the time the game ends to the time when a player is able to start another game (e.g. their client finally realizes the game ended). Does that help?

Yes, this. Usually far less than this, though we did some some reports of players being stuck for 2-3 hours, so we raised our estimate just to be on the safe side.

Everything should still be there! No information is actually lost in this kind of situation. What's happening is that the message from the game server telling your client you're ready for another game gets lost, so your client thinks you're trying to reconnect to a game that doesn't exist anymore. For the games, I hear you. It should hopefully be far less than 3 hours, that's just the maximum amount of time. We're still working to see why more players than usual might be getting stuck. We definitely want you to be able to play!

Just to add some info: It's unlikely (hesitant to say impossible cause I'm sure the minute I do is the minute it happens) to be a result of a code bug in the way I think you intend it. Ghost games happen because of a problem in the connection between the game server and your client. Normally when a game ends, the game server sends a message back to your client telling it you're out of game and ready for another one. Ghost games are what happen when that message gets lost along the way. TL;DR - Unlikely to be code bug, not whole server problem, but type of connection problem

Yah. This is because the game ends properly, but for whatever reason the message from the game servers back to your client saying "Hey! Game's over! GOOPHED is ready for another game!" doesn't get received, so your client just keeps waiting. Looks like we're seeing another round of higher than usual ghost games, so the team is investigating now

Not by default. By "Possible disconnects" we mostly mean there's a higher risk for disconnects in general. If we see problems arise during the maintenance though, we'll look at that option.

Wouldn't be because of the maintenance. It won't start until 3am (We turn ranked queues off a bit early to make sure we don't interrupt games in progress). If you're not able to connect now, there's something else going on. Good first step is to check out the [Hextech Repair Tool](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/224826367-Automated-Troubleshooting-Hextech-Repair-Tool) (our automated troubleshooting tool). If should help give a better idea of what's going on
: I hope this helps in the long run to have better servers in LAN. Having the server on the USA really affects Colombians and Panamenians as well as the few Venezuelans that still play. Even here in Mexico City is impossible to get your ping lower than 64 without buying routing optimization services. Latin America in general does not have the best internet infrastructures, so everything that can potentially help is welcomed
I hear you, but want to clarify what this maintenance is doing. This maintenance is unlikely to affect players outside of not being able to play ranked for a few hours. We're just making sure the software the routers use is up-to-date. We're not making any major routing changes or changes you'll see directly.

No immediate effects. Purely a proactive update to make it easier to work on the routers in the future.

My bad on that. Happy to clear things up a bit (or do my best at least). I misspoke when saying "affected the least amount of players." It would be more accurate to say "had the least impact on players." Impact being a combination of both quantity of players and the severity of the issue. To expand on this via hypothetical, let's say you're doing some sort of test between two groups of people. Group A is 1,000 people, group B is 10,000 people. When surveyed, Group A rated their satisfaction of the test a 1 out of 10, whereas group B rated their satisfaction a 5 out of 10. Neither one of these scores are good, they both kinda suck, but which situation is worse? The smaller group that had a far more negative experience or the larger group that had a bad, but not awful experience? Of course, in reality it's a bit more complex, but we're always having to look at these types of decisions and make compromises when we need to. Hope this provides a bit more of the type of insight you're looking for

On the client landing page? Shouldn't be related to this, but not ruling it out. I'd say give it a good ~10-15 minutes and if it's still happening, send in a support ticket and one of our tech specialists can take a closer look at what's going on.

: Why is it server maintenance never ends the time you guys quote? You should add 2 to 4 hours so if you finish early its a good thing. Also how was 7:30am pdt the lowest pop time? Shifting it 3 hours earlier would've resulted in less people? Can you share the numbers because that is interesting.
Just to clarify - It's not strictly the lowest numerical value of server population. More like....looking for the time that the maintenance will have the overall lowest impact on players. When looking at this maintenance in particular, we wanted to consider the effect of the maintenance time in other regions (OCE being a standout in terms of likelihood to impact) and compromise where appropriate. Basically, it may not be the best time for any region, but hopefully we can avoid some super punch-you-in-the-face painful time windows

No guaranteed way to fix it :( In a sort of ELI5 version of the problem, the connection to the login server itself is where the problem lies, so it's basically going to be on us to make sure this is working properly again. I know it sucks but, our network engineers are working on it as we speak (type?) Hoping to get everyone back into the game as soon as possible

Heya, Just stepping in to add some context. Totally agree that this kind of maintenance is usually performed in the wee hours of the night. The reason this one was not was because the systems being worked on touch multiple regions so we tried to pick a time that affected the least amount of players. Ranked being off is kind of different. We turn off ranked anytime there's a service being worked on that could negatively impact your game if the maintenance goes wrong (e.g. chat maintenance, network maintenance, etc.)

The maintenance won't start for about another 12 hours, so sounds like you're running into an unrelated patching issue (I say patching because it sounds like nothing displays after you click on the LoL icon). I'd go ahead and take a look at the [Patching Issues](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/202969434-Patching-Issues) article and if you still run into issues, go ahead and submit a ticket and we can help you out :D

From your screenshot, it looks like your resolution is set at 1680x1050 instead of 1920x1080. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but that's going to give you a bit of a different look. Are you running into issues with your new resolution as well?

Hey! Sorry for not getting back to you on this, I apparently missed the update notification :( In terms of the e-mail verification, I'd try using a different e-mail provider to see if there may be an issue with your e-mail. As to the champ select issue, it's starting to sound more like a connection issue. In the case of a black screen, it usually means that you're failing to connect to the game servers. Best first step is to follow the steps in the [Connection Troubleshooting](https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752664-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues) guide which should help to rule out the most common causes of connection issues. Let me know if it fixes the problem or not!

: If this thread is no longer sticky'd can we get an update? Lost my promos last night because our mid started getting slammed with "attempting to reconnect" and what sounded like the kind of packet loss I was getting 3 days ago.
In general the update is just that we haven't found any consistent server-wide issues. With that said, there have been various ISP issues over the past few days (I believe Comcast had some issues 2 days ago), but that would be on a regional and/or individual basis. There's also a chance that there was just an interruption with that player's network. If it's a friend of yours, I'd recommend letting them know to send us a ticket so that we can help figure out what's causing their connection issues.
