: Is the Darkin the weapon or the horned creature that wields it?
I think the Darkin is the being, but some part of their soul or essence is bound to the weapon such that they'll never truly die as long as the weapon survives. So it's not entirely incorrect to say that the Darkin is the weapon too. You can see it best with Rhaast and Kayn -- Rhaast wants to entirely take over Kayn and he isn't fully alive until he does, but he isn't dead either. If Kayn died or dropped him somewhere, Rhaast would live and bide his time until someone else touched the weapon, giving him another body to take over. On the other hand, Kayn CAN kill him by purging his essence from the scythe, or possibly just destroying the scythe, the way you kill a lich by destroying the object that contains their soul.

: Quinn And Valor Lore
In the old lore it was implied a bit more heavily that Valor was Caleb (it mentions that he had "the same spirit she saw in her brother") but still ambiguous. In the current lore, I think the most you could say is that Caleb/the gods/some benevolent spirit brought Quinn and Valor together when they needed each other the most. Either one works better than the old rumor that Caleb survived, lost his memory, and is now Talon

: Overall I agree with your general idea, though for another reason than the ones that you mention and that is simply the fact that it would feel kind of like a wasted potential if Rhaast looses the struggle against kayn, because that way the 5 darkin would never come together again. However Kayn is the main character out of the 2,so it would feel more natural if he would win in the end. Because of this I think it is likely that Rhaast would overpower Kayn first and later he'd get defeated and Kayn would be revived.(though the opposite could also be true). Though after that I'd say it is likely that one of them would stay dead.

It's not necessary to kill Kayn to bring Rhaast back. It would just be necessary to give the scythe to someone else that Rhaast could take over. Kayn can be rid of the scythe any time he likes; he just wants to win. And Rhaast could potentially take over anyone else; he just wants Kayn's body so he can use his shadow powers.

I could buy into this theory. I could also accept that it's an anti-Darkin weapon that uplifts/deifies ordinary mortals as a counter-balance to the Darkin and their blood magic. : Haha, I love this concept! "TOTALLY HARMLESS, officer!" I can just see the innocent smile she gives Cait every time she's questioned. ---- # The kit I see for your champion looks a bit like... **[RESOURCE]** Definitely Mana. **[PASSIVE: Trial and Error]** Every time you take down a champion who is under the effects of one of your devices, you use the data gathered to empower that device. **[Q: Shock Trap] (Mana 90/80/70/60/50) (Cooldown: 10s) You place a trap that lasts for up to 60 seconds. After 2 seconds the trap will activate, and anyone who steps on it will be caught in an electrical field. The field stuns enemies for 2 seconds and deals a small amount of magic damage per second for the duration. _Trial and Error: The duration of the damage over time is increased by 1 second, up to a total of 6 seconds. The stun duration doesn't change._ **[W: Super Smart Sentry™]** (Mana 60/55/50/45/40) (Cooldown: 12s/11s/10s/9s/8s) Places a Super Smart Sentry™ with a moderate range that adapts to nearby threats. While no enemies are within its range, it will heal allies in range for a small amount based on your bonus AP every second. When an enemy is in range, the turret will instead put out a field that slows them by 20%. Multiple sentries stack effects, but the effects of all sentries are reduced on a single target based on how many incoming sentry effects are placed on them. _You can place up to 2/4/6/8/10 sentries at a time, and they'll remain active even while you're away. Each sentry placed reduces the health of all nearby sentries by 5%._ _Trial and Error: Increases the sentry's slow by 1%, up to a total of 40%._ **[E: Malefic Minion]** (Mana: 80) (Cooldown: 25s) You create a melee minion that looks and behaves in every way like a normal minion. When that minion dies it explodes, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies within a moderate radius. You gain gold from the minion's last hits, including those from its explosion. The minion's explosion deals 150% damage to turrets. _Malefic Minion can proc Relic Shield on your behalf, even if you're not in lane at the time._ _Trial and Error: The blast radius is increased slightly. The maximum radius covers about 80% of a lane's width._ **[R: What The Hex Was That?!]** (Mana: 200/180/160) (Cooldown: 160s/140s/120s) Your own devices surprise you, leading to a sudden breakthrough. Cast once to activate, then cast another ability with a new effect. * **Shock Trap:** Rather than stunning enemies and dealing damage, the trap levitates them in a stasis field for a number of seconds equal to the usual DoT time. The target cannot act or be targeted during this time. * **Super Smart Sentry™:** Rather than its usual effects, the sentry placed generates a hextech barrier around the edge of its area of effect. This barrier prevents movement and dashes (Flash and other such teleports still work) for both enemies and allies. Allies can fire out, but any incoming projectiles are absorbed by the barrier, dealing damage to it. The barrier lasts for 5 seconds or until it breaks, at which point the whole turret breaks. The barrier's health is 1000/1500/2000, increased equal to twice the sentry slow time of the core ability. IE, a max level barrier with a 40% slow time would have 3,600 health. * **Malefic Minion:** Spawns a super-minion with 1000/1600/2200 health that has an attack speed of 2.00 and deals the same amount of damage as your own basic attack. When this minion dies, its explosion deals twice the damage of a normal Malefic Minion.

: The writer COULD have added an additional few paragraphs near the star about proper Ionian farming tools and practices, and as cool of a world-building element that might have been, it adds nothing to the story. The focus of this tale is between a select few characters and how they deal with consequences, adding other stuff would just dilute that.
The farming setup at the beginning has a purpose. It shows the general time of year, gives a hint how long Riven has been there, shows that she's been reduced to really humble work, and gives her something she could possibly have used as a weapon when they come to arrest her.

: How far does the lore reach into the game?
While we're on the subject, how do Yasuo's wind abilities actually work? Originally it was suggested that it was just an extension of his sword strokes -- anyone could wave a sword and displace a little air, but those who have the strength and know how to do it could throw a much stronger breeze. Then "The Bird and the Branch" came along and the air itself seemed to be something he could control, at least subconsciously -- there's the moment toward the end where he's upset that she's leaving and the wind is rough, but he accepts it and the wind calms down. And then in "Confessions," he (and Elder Souma by suggestion) channel wind magic through the runic blade until it overloads (?) and breaks apart. And then Yas is able to manipulate the old man's breath to stop the flying shard, without much if any connection to sword work. So does he have actual wind magic and the sword helps him channel it but he doesn't strictly need it? I have a headcannon that he's very distantly related to the vastaya.

: Are you aware of what you're saying? How could Yasuo be blamed for the most on foreseeable event possible? At this point you're working with What If's You're basically saying Yasuo should of stayed at this master side because Yasuo would be able to catch the shard out of the air thus saving his life. The master agreed to this and Yasuo bends to his master regardless the master would of been at risk for accepting Riven's plea. The only difference between Yasuo staying there and not is that he doesn't see his master die.
At this point I think it's clear that the only one who blames Yasuo for what happened is Yasuo. He's convinced he could have stopped the shard if he'd been there, so to his mind that means he's responsible. But I agree that the story suggests that the original accident couldn't have been prevented by anyone. Yas wouldn't have been able to react in time, and the shard would still have killed Elder Souma if it didn't kill Yas himself.

I think Yasuo would be pragmatic enough to think "If she leaves me alone, I'll leave her alone." Kayn might see her as more of a challenge. RHAAST would definitely be interested, especially if being reborn in her body would give him all her neat reality-bending powers.

: Can we give XIn his horse?
I have to plead ignorance -- I didn't even know Xin had a horse. He's riding one in a couple of his splash arts, but that's about it.
: The Riven and Yasuo story isn't as complete as you think...
This is an intriguing line of thought. Simplest answer: They didn't want it revealed that a Noxian had managed to get into an Elder's room, so they let suspicion fall on a man who was already disliked. It's also possible someone had a reason to want Souma or Yasuo out of the picture and decided it was as good a way as any to get rid of him.
: Yasuo And The Disonence Of Lore
My take on Yasuo is this: He's in emergency mode and has been for some time. He has kinder, gentler, nobler qualities, but he can't let them show because he's constantly under attack. His only goal for years has been to survive long enough to find the person who killed Elder Souma. He's not thinking beyond that, because for him there is nothing beyond that. He's going to be executed for one reason or another, and all he wants is to make sure he doesn't die a murderer. So all the lives he's taken, all the property he's damaged; heck, what's more for the tab? As for lore dissonance with the voiceover, I have to agree. Yas's voiced lines sound.... tired. He sounds like he's just trying to hold himself together long enough to get the job done, and after that it doesn't matter. He's running on nothing but resolve, and the main problem this new story introduces is that he's just lost his reason to keep moving. He tracked down the assassin -- but there was no assassination, just a tragic accident. The Ionian official has all but pardoned him for the rest of it, so.... what's he supposed to do? He's been waiting and working for a big resolution, and there's not going to be one. There needs to be a third part of the story to give Yasuo a new reason to go on. Otherwise the story doesn't work as his backstory, because the Yasuo in game is still on his way to something, and the Yasuo in the story is a broken, guilt-burdened mess.

Maybe the enchantment caused some sort of head-seeking properties, maybe it's just coincidence. It didn't fall apart. Yasuo deliberately channeled the wind through it to break it, so he could see if he could have stopped the flying shard in time. He could, so now he feels responsible for the death. (I think it's implicit in the story that he COULDN'T have stopped it in the actual accident -- he barely stopped it here, even knowing what was going to happen. If he'd been in the room, the shard might have hit and killed him. But he seems like a man who likes to take on guilt.)

Agreed. Neither this one nor "The Bird and the Branch" (by the same author) have let us into his head. On the other hand, there are so many other champions who could use exploration. I, for one, would love to see Nami finally get that darn Moonstone.
: While its clear that yasuo's exile has become self inflicted, does this at least mean that in the eyes of ionia he's no longer a traitor?
Given the way people are, he probably can't go anywhere without someone screaming "Murderer!" at him I think he expected to be sentenced to death for abandoning his post and killing Yone and the others; all he wanted was to catch the real killer first. Being given (unofficially) a pardon for that is probably eating him alive, because he couldn't see a way back to honor besides an honorable death.

I never read him as expecting to be forgiven for that. I thought he planned to clear his name of the murder and then turn himself in for execution for the rest of it. Makes it harder to deal with In all fairness, I never read him as someone who expected to get away free for killing Yone. I thought his main ambition was to clear his name of the charge of murder and THEN surrender to eventual execution for 1. leaving his post, 2. killing Yone and others. I supposed it was some samurai-ish desire for the 'honorable' death of a warrior instead of the dishonorable death of a criminal.
: Riven and Yasuo's updated lore (Spoilers for those who care) and big THANK YOU to Ariel Lawrence!!!
I'm a little sad, because while Riven's character arc has started an upward swing, Yasuo's has gone down. He found out the truth of Elder Souma's death and all it gave him was a deeper sense of guilt. If he'd been there, he could have stopped the flying shard (or so he thinks -- I think it's relatively clear in the narrative that the only one who blames him for what happened is himself). I wanted them to come to some understanding and maybe exchange something like he and Taliyah did, but at least there's a way out for Yasuo if he can ever forgive himself.
: Confessions of a Broken Blade: Yasuo x Riven
The third part is a little confusing, but I think I see how it all goes down: Yasuo finds out that Elder Souma died in an accident when he broke Riven's blade. He wants to find out if he could have prevented the death, so he channels a large amount of wind energy through the blade the way Elder Souma must have. The sword 'breaks' again and a little piece flies off toward the old man Riven has come to love, but Yas is able to stop it with the wind and maybe a bit of the old man's breath. He concludes from this that he's STILL guilty since Elder Souma wouldn't have died if he'd been there, refuses all offers of reconciliation, and leaves in a mess of self loathing and self-inflicted guilt. Meanwhile, Riven finds a new home and family in Ionia, with the hope of getting herself back together and finally healing. It's a hopeful story for Riven but a really sad one for Yasuo.
: The idea itself is absolutely Hilarious. I wish i could see a reaction of a person that has a champion that lost hope xDDD I don't believe it would turn into a game mode though due it being pessimistic. It also has a balance issue where if you lost due to having inferior team composition... you are at further disadvantage because of nerfs - i mean it wouldn't be fun to play. It would be costly as well - to hire all the voice actors to record additional voice lines.
I suppose this comment and the one below are right. It wouldn't be fun to play. It would provide some nice characterization, though. What does each Champion hope for, and what would be 'despair' for them? Are there some, like maybe Braum, who would never lose hope?
